To be clear, this phone is incredible. Period. I keep hearing about average specs and other mid-range devices have great specs but average cameras and this one does the opposite.. I've owned a lot of recent mid-range phones, most of them sporting a snapdragon 636 at best. The Moto g7 has a 632, the Moto one has a 625, the Moto 6 from last year had a 435!! This phone has a snapdragon 670 and it's by far the best mid-range chip I've used. It's only to be bested later this year by the snapdragon 675 and 710. This phone packs the best 6 series processor out there, 4gb ram, the best camera period, stock Android with the latest software upgrades, AMOLED full hd+ screen... The list goes on. It's incredible. I just sold a galaxy S10 I paid 950 bucks for and I prefer this phone over that all day. The things you miss are wireless charging and... Yeah. That's it. Most other midrangers are missing NFC, fast charging, full hd, AMOLED.. this phone has it all. Don't buy any expensive flagship, get this phone! Don't buy a cheap junker, spend the extra money on this phone, you won't regret it.

Good idea, typical poor execution from Google

Google's hardware department is full of great ideas, however just like the rest of Google has a very hard time following through. The 3a/3a XL (in the last couple weeks I have had BOTH, so review is applicable to both phones) are a great idea on paper, midrange devices with flagship cameras. Most reviews seem to be bring up the same "negatives" about the phones, complaining about the plastic body and the Snapdragon 670 SoC. In my use, the plastic body is very well put together, and feels premium to me, though different. Plastic has it's benefits, such as being more resistant to damage, making the phone feather light, and since it's molded in color, chips or scratches do not change the color of the phone, helping mask any potential damage. The Snapdragon 670 is fine. Far more noticeable is the use of eMMC storage, which only seems to create ever so slightly longer load times for apps when you launch them. The phone feels snappy overall, and was never a frustrating experience in day to day use. Don't let the eMMC or Snapdragon 670 give you pause in buying this phone. Why the 1 star review? Simple. The Pixel line, and it's "bleeding edge" Android software updates are a blessing and a curse. I used 3 separate devices (one 3a, two 3a XLs), and each one had the same dealbreaking software bug. When the phone sits idle for a while, in your pocket, on the table, overnight, etc, the device becomes unresponsive to any input. The screen does not light, you cannot dismiss alarm, answer phone calls or anything at all without doing a soft reset (press and hold power button for 10 seconds to restart the phone) on the device. This is extremely frustrating when you are expecting a call, or just want to snooze your 5 am alarm for 10 more minutes. I do believe that this is a software issue, though as of 2 days ago (6/12/19) it still had not been resolved. Likely, it will in the future, but these kinds of black marks are hard to recover from when you're trying to make headway in a space as competitive as the smartphone market. It's cheap, but if it can't be relied on to even be useful as a PHONE in day to day use, should you spend your money on it? I decided not to, and maybe Google will mop up the issues in a few months. As a consumer, you really shouldn't be beta testing another half baked Google product. Stupid problems that should have easily been resolved prior to release, and until people stop buying this stuff, Google will continue to treat it's users like this. Look elsewhere for your smartphone needs.

I am a nerd at heart so I normally always have 2 phones, a personal, and a work phone that I pay for. I was looking to replace an aging iPhone 6S but since I use a XS Max iPhone as my personal phone I wanted another android phone. Having had several Samsung devices from a S7, S8, and Note 8 plus the original Pixel I knew I wanted to go back to google since I always hated the Samsung interface. Well I wasn’t disappointed. Considering the promotion Best Buy was running I chose the Pixel 3a XL. Honestly despite the price this phone seems just as powerful as any other decent smart phone. Yes it may be plastic but I put everything in a case anyway so it doesn’t matter. The Google assistant is 10 times more helpful than Siri or the Bixby on Samsung. It has a great camera that takes better selfie’s than my iPhone. Overall if you’re looking for a new phone I don’t want to spend a lot of money but want something that is really powerful and you will be happy to own I would pick the pixel. If you have the money you might be happier with the more expensive phone but for what I use it for as a secondary work phone this makes the most sense for me.

    1. This pixel has a great HD+screen 2. The stereo speakers are amazing they are 100 times better them the One plus 7 pro. 3. The camera is the equivalent of carrying around a professional photographer in your hands at all time. 4. The headphones jack makes it your perfect gym and late night smart TV personal viewing companion. 5. Unlimited free Google photo storage for 3 years. 6. This phone is so amazing not lag all apps stay open the low power processor is used for most high end tablets on the Galaxy tab line they multi task with no problems. NO PROBLEM HAVING SEVERAL APPS OPEN AT SAME TIME!!! At this price people need to be pulled out of the matrix of the cellphone industry and stop overspending for a device that looses 50%value a month later when phone's like this exist. Thank IPhone for starting the Rob everyone trend. I had the One Plus 7 pro for a week and realized how terrible it was and how much company's blind fold use with useless features. Google actually listen and gave us a awesome phone for a quarter of the price. This phone is so amazing. 399 and 479 go out and get this amazing multimedia/photographer beast.

I am a dedicated Samsung Note user. I've had almost every single one, including the Note tablets. But recently I started to long for a phone that was free from the requirements my workplace enforces for me to have access to work email. I wasn't super motivated to act on that as it required buying another phone and I didn't want a cheap throwaway phone. So when the new Pixel 3a series was announced, I jumped on it as it would allow me to play around with new Android beta releases and also have a personal phone I could use when I wanted to get away from work. Despite this phone being inexpensive (relative to the Note), it doesn't operate like a cheap phone. It feels perfectly speedy enough and I appreciate the Pixel specific features like Night Sight, call screening, and the cleaner OS. Really, the camera alone had me interested. Night Sight really is quite good. I recommend this phone to anyone who wants a good phone that will be supported for 3 years with security and OS updates and values having a good camera. Yes, it's made of plastic but put a case on it and you won't even notice. Plus, it's a little more droppable since it's not solid glass back and front. Love this phone and I'm glad I bought it.

This is truly a great phone. The battery life is excellent! I was using a Galaxy S9+ before this phone. I haven't noticed any slowdown (due to the lesser Snapdragon processor). The battery will easily last me through a day with some to spare, which is not something I can say about any Galaxy I have ever owned. Honestly, I thought I would miss wireless charging but, with the battery lasting through the day, I don't need it. I love that the screen is flat so I can protect it with a tempered glass screen protector. The fingerprint sensor has much better accuracy than my Galaxy. The only 2 negatives I can give the phone is: 1. The screen brightness is not high enough in direct sunlight. and 2. I wish the camera processing was faster. (Let me further explain. The camera shutter is super quick. You can snap pictures quickly and they look great. The problem arises if you wish to preview the picture before taking another. It takes 2-3 seconds to process and work the "Google Camera" magic.) Overall these 2 gripes are something I can live with and I love this phone. No more $1000 phones for me.

Seriously good phone that some will not consider because of the inferior processor and lower ram. You should listen to what I'm about to say. Coming from a One plus 6T and a Galaxy S10 plus, I do not see one hiccup or slow down since I bought it. Quick and fluid, handles all the stuff I do. Now if you're a heavy gamer with large games that need GPU power, this may not be the device for you. You'll want the latest and greatest processor. I have always been in the boat that the top end is the best. I've had every flagship and every OnePlus device. I was planning to purchase the OnePlus 7 pro this week but kept looking at that price and the darn curved screen. So I decided to give this Pixel 3A XL a try and I'm glad I did. I think you will be too. The camera is a game changer.

I was getting annoyed with some of my OnePlus 6 quirks and always wanted a Pixel and pure Android. Oddly maybe I am not as eager for pure Android as I thought I was with some of the dumb things Google forces on you. I hate the Google search bar and wish they would let me delete it and the quick info date/weather status which waste too much valuable home screen space. I see the 3a XL suffers from the same very low ringtone volume that the flagship Pixels suffer from. Build quality and display are excellent. I am eager to see how battery life hold up. Also my OnePlus 6 had frequent call connectivity issues and tower hand off issues so I am eager to see how Google's hardware hold up. I am not a power user so this phone is more than fast enough for me. I do wish Google offered microSD for expanded storage, but I can fit what I need in 64GB. Clearly at this price point it is hard to beat this phone especially if you use the camera occasionally. I was ready to get a Moto G7 Power as I like their phones, but then this came out and BestBuy had some great discounts via gift cards so was hard to pass up.

I have a note 9 and was looking into replacing my screen from a drop. walked into best buy checked out the phones and was already looking into the 3xl from last year and now the 3axl was out for half the price. same camera better battery life and amazing screen. yes it has a slower processor but seems faster then my note 9 was. no lag or glitches. everything just works! if you looking for a phone this is the one to get. i was hesitating because of the price point that i would be disappointed buying a phone for half the price of my old note 9 but was i wrong! yes u lose wireless charging but i never have to charge this phone like i used to at work or on the go i went to bed with my phone at 63% battery life still left after using it all day. the charger is so fast also. and being a google phone unlimited photos on cloud are so easy to access and share backed up all pics and vids on google photos and have no regrets.

I have been a fan of Google phones since the Nexus 4. Had a 5x and 6p, then moved onto a pixel 2 for the last 1.5 years. I have been very pleased with the pixel 2 and had been debating upgrading to a pixel 3 or pixel 3 xl, and then these were unveiled. I am very pleased with the pixel 3a XL in so many ways. The camera is nearly identical and the battery life so far is outstanding. I have had 3 hours of screen time over about 40% of the battery used so far since I have bought it. Android 9 right out of the box and the screen is also pretty awesome. The speakers are plenty loud even though they're not front facing which I was a little worried about when I was considering this. All in all I would give it a perfect 5/5. Nothing short of amazing with this device. I'd switch again in a heart beat.

What isn't there to like about this phone? Fast, Pure Google OS, Amazing Camera, Great Screen, and Price! I went over to an iPhone from Android a while ago, and decided to try Android again! I was simply blown away at how nice the OS is now...This phone is great, and NOT ONLY for the price, but also the performance! There isn't a phone out there today, that packs as many features for the price that this phone does, not to even mention how amazing the camera is! You can pay a premium price for a flagship phone, but if you are just a normal phone user, that uses your phone for phone calls, surfing the web, doing email, social media, etc, and want a camera that will simply blow you away, then this is the phone for you! If there were 10 stars to chose, I would give it a solid 10!! Oh and not to mention that it has a headphone jack, so I can leave my dongles at home when listening to my music! :)

the phone gave me headaches...bad! I thought I was crazy, but when I returned the phone and explained to the lady why, her mouth dropped and she went and showed me something. She pointed out a screen protector they had just got in for the phone that had a big "helps with eye strain" sticker on the front. She said that was the first time she had ever seen that before and now it made her really wonder about the screen. Clearly there is something going on, as I've had probably 50-75 phones over the past 6-7 years and I've never had that issue before. Other than that, I loved the phone...actually hated getting rid of it. I was actually going to replaced my OnePlus 6t with it, that's how much I liked it the first day. I have it a solid week, and just couldn't do it anymore. As soon as I would go back to the 6t, my headache would back off. Weird I know, but it was definitely a real thing for me. Buyer beware

    Apple like phone on Android

Let me explain the title.... Apple has the ability to make a great phone due to the them optimizing their hardware to their software. Well, Google has taken a low powered processor and has optimized it to run as smooth as any flagship android phone ($1000+). This phone is great and comes with all the needed apps to get you started, especially people who aren't so tech savvy. The camera on this phone is arguably the best in any smartphone. Open the camera app and start taking pictures, most if not all pictures will be amazing. The screen is OLED and looks great. It also is very durable. Using a black background and changing most of the apps to be in "Dark mode" gives an all day battery life. The bad: No MicroSD slot, only 64GB of storage, no wireless charging, the screen can be a little dim in the sunlight. Even thought the specs don't show it, this is the best phone to buy for the money!

From the camera that is equal to their flagship, the software, 2 day battery life, gestures for things, speed, color(purple ish), loud speaker (bottom firing and earpiece is speaker). I do not game but the snapdragon 670 is great for anyone who is surfing internet, running through apps, etc. If you are coming from a flagship down to this then it may not be the phone for you (sorry you have already been spoiled), but if you are looking for a midtier with some force this is it. 3yrs of upgrades in os and security n to be the first to get it with these phones. Only issue I had was Best Buy had a promotional e gift card of $100 that a lot of people received (me included)without pins so we couldn't use them. I still haven't received the newer email that will have the e gift card corrected, its only been since May 7th when I purchased phone a week and a couple days.

Bought it the first day it came out. One big thing to note is the SD670 in this phone is basically a updated SD821 and sometimes comes close to the SD835 in terms of performance. Its no slouch. I also chose the XL version since its a 18:9 ratio then the smaller one, the smaller one is 18.5:9 so its a bit longer. To me its a no brainer of a purchase since google is pushing updates out for this phone for the next few yrs. What i was looking for in a phone is great camera, security updates, and dual speakers. Few things to note is I didn't like the double swipe up for the app drawer and its only in the 3 and 3A while the pixel 2 and 1 is different (forgot the option in the gestures menu). I installed Nova launcher instead. Last thing to note is taking pics for 2hrs straight really kills the battery but I'm sure thats every phone.

The Pixel 3a XL is either Google's attempt to meet the average smartphone user's need or they stumbled on the right combination of features/price because the flagship phones are not selling like they used to. Either way, this is a win/win for this phone. I have owned iPhones, Galaxys, etc. A few years ago there was a huge gap between flagship phones and mid tier phones as far as features. That's not true anymore. I wanted a good camera and a phone that runs smooth with a decent screen. This phone checks all the boxes for me. It just works. If you are coming from the Pixel 3 or other top tier you will notice a little performance lag on opening apps or scrolling fast. $400-500 difference? No. Battery life is better than I expected. 3 years of operating system upgrades, Pixels first in line for those. Very happy with this phone.

I have never had a Pixel before this phone or used vanilla Android but now may be a permanent convert. The camera is phenomenal on this phone... With one lense! I know at this price point there are some sacrifices but the camera more than makes up for any of those. I am coming from an S9+ and honestly I don't notice a vast performance difference. Yes the display is better on the S9+ and it's "snappier" as they say. However, I also paid half as much for this phone and will be getting updates immediately versus waiting over a year. It is a little dated in the looks department but it excels in functionality. I am very happy with this purchase and will consider the pixel 4 later this year

I decided to try out the Pixel 3a XL to see if I would like it better than the iPhone. I been debating on trying an Android for awhile and this one was a good price and reviews were really good for it. I am glad I gave it a try, it is a nice change from the iPhone. Now to say is there stuff I miss on the Apple ecosystem is correct but if I ever want to go back I can. But right now I love the camera, the screen, the ability to custom it more and the most is the Google Assistant. That was the biggest reason for it since I have Google Home and have really liked it. Everything is synched a lot better and just runs smoother. I may upgrade when the Pixel 4 comes out since now I know I do like this set up or try another phone.

I've had many Android phones and my last phone was the Note 9. This phone is excellent, great coverage, great camera and smooth. Reminds me a lot of The iPhone X I left for the Note 9. It's not the fastest but doesn't need to be. IT JUST WORKS. Due note I'm on FirstNet using AT&T's network. I saw someone say it doesn't work on AT&T and that's not true. All you have to do is set the correct APN settings (you can Google it for a how to). I bought the phone unlocked and it's been one of my best purchases I've ever made from Best Buy. Paired seemlessly with my Samsung Gear watch also. Also paired with my truck with no problem. I've owned the phone for 2 weeks.

The Google Pixel 3a XL delivers enough performance to handle even mid-levels of multi-taking, YouTube video playback, and some games, even with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 SoC. The Android OS software runs very smoothly and has not crashed yet. Among the best features on this phone are the batter life and the camera. The camera on this phone rivals top flagship phones, in my opinion, and is certainly among the best you’ll find on a mid-tier device. I would recommend putting a case and screen protector on the phone immediately, as it scratches easily. Overall, this phone is.a great buy for the money and I would highly recommend it t anybody looking for a decent phone at a (more) affordable price.
