    Can't beat the software experience

Can't beat the software. The hardware isn't as great as other phones but you can't beat the software and updates. With everyone trusting the phones to be secure I feel like having software updates is a must. The vanilla software experience is hard to beat.

    A Great iPhone alternative

I'm typing the review up on this very phone. I love the refresh rate, the resolution, and functionality. The camera is also truly one of if not the best on the market. I use this phone everyday and haven't any issue with it. The only reason I'm giving it four stars instead of five is because the battery life could definitely be better but if you have a battery or a charger on hand it isn't a big issue.

    The picture quality is amazing

It is fast, the battery lasts forever, it is intuitive and the calls are crystal clear, but let me talk about the camera. Oh dear, the camera is absolutely amazing. We got this right before a trip to Scotland and the pictures this thing took make it seem like we were using a multi thousand dollar fancy pants camera. We're talking "this stuff looks photo shopped" quality pictures. Granted Scotland is gorgeous but for the first time in my life I feel like the pictures we took came close to what our eyes were actually seeing, and all this from a cell phone. Sorry to my previous company that I had been getting my cell phones from, I can't go back, Google all the way now. Oh, and the unlocked version meant no bloatware! Can't get much better than that.

Unlocked Google - Pixel 4 XL with 128GB

I recently switched from tmobile to spectrum and due to them only allowing certain phones I had to change my phone. So it was an option of samsung, apple or google. I went with this phone as i dislike the other two options I had. So far this phone has been working great. It is light and responsive and it was a breeze to setup. I due miss the fingerprint sensor, but you get use to the face unlock. the phone works very well and playing games on it is great. I onyl play a couple which are mario kart and marvel contest of champions. Both work fantastic and all other functions work well.

I purchased the original Nexus pixel as soon as it came out to use with project fi. I've had it ever since what is the battery life started to die I knew I needed to upgrade so took a chance on the 4XL. With the right settings this phone can last an entire day even with heavy usage. I keep the screen brightness down to around 70% and don't have apps running in the background when they're not in use. Although the gestures don't seem to work outside of the United States that's not a deal-breaker for me. It's a fast, bright and responsive phone with a great display. Although I have to admit I'm not as impressed with the camera upgrade as I would have hoped, but it's still a great camera. I do agree it seems a bit pricey for what you're getting but all in all I'm very satisfied.

Great phone with mediocre battery life

Great phone overall. The screen is much better than past pixel phones, but doesn't get as bright as it needs to be outdoors. The software is great. Fast an fluid. The camera is great as always. The one downside is the battery life on the phone. It seems worse than my pixel 2 XL was when I first got it. The smooth display really drains it. I also find the soli radar sensor to be a good addition but under utilized from a practical user standpoint. The storage is 64gb with 6gb of RAM which is underwhelming to say the least in a 2019 phone. Overall, the pixel is still a great phone for people looking for the best software experience from android with great support for updates and security.

Cutting corners while trying to be cutting edge

I really wanted to like this phone. I have been looking to migrate away from the Apple ecosystem and I thought the Pixel 4 XL might be the ticket as it could offer me a closer level of integration between hardware and software compared to other Android OEMs. There are some very cool things about this phone, but they overshadowed by some perplexing drawbacks. First, I actually love the design - the matte glass back is silky smooth and feels great in your hands. The large top bezel in the front didn't bother me at all - it's not the cleanest look for a phone in 2020, but it's much less offensive than that ginormous notch on the Pixel 3 XL. Face ID worked well on the device, but I was bummed to find that very few apps on Android actually support Face ID - so you'll need to be prepared to revert to pins and passwords again for most apps. I had no complaints about the display other than the colors seemed a bit dull at lower levels of brightness. The 90 Hz display was great (when, in fact, it was running at 90 Hz). Audio was adequate (minus the fact that google should throw in a pair of cheap USB-C buds for what they are charging for this device). Motion sense had very limited utility and worked about 75% of the time for me - that being said, I think it's cool technology that could become very useful if developed further down the road. Where things really went off the rails for me is battery life and software bugs. The battery life on the Pixel 4 XL is not awful, but it's also not anywhere near where it should be at this price point - really disappointing (and honestly baffling) that google didn't outfit this device with a bigger battery. There were also a number of weird glitches that I would encounter - random app crashes, freezing home screen, google assistant becoming unresponsive. These things didn't happen all the time, but they happened enough to make me concerned about the phone's longevity. The Pixel 4 XL is a decent attempt from Google to make a phone that stands out from the crowd; unfortunately, it stands out for the wrong reasons just as much as it does for the right ones.

The best Android available...... for now

Pretty much everything under the sun has been said about this phone, and I highly doubt that anyone is going to read this review but I just wanted to share that is probably the best Android that is currently available on the market. Yes, best is completely subjective and my opinion doesn't matter but so far I am happy that I purchased this device. I would have given this five stars, however I am a little concerned with the overall battery life and I absolutely hate the face unlock feature because this phone never recognizes me.... The good news is both of those things are mostly manageable and not deal breakers in my world.

    Amazing Android Experience

Yes, this phone is relatively short on battery, storage, and lack of ultra-wid. And these spec shortages may make some people upset. But when I leave them aside, I really enjoy more practical things which this phone can do: easy control of light balance when I take a photo, live caption for watching a video without turning up the sound, adaptive battery which makes the battery life much longer, and a stunningly fast Google assistance. I know this phone works. I made this upgrade from a previous pixel model. It is fascinating how Google integrates the hardware and software together to achieve a better, top-class Android Experience. The tech spec indeed is an important part of a phone, but Google's computation behind it truly makes a difference.

    Kinda meh...but LOVE that camera!

I've always wanted a pure "google" phone. I've mostly had Samsung Notes. My Samsung met with an unfortunate and untimely death due to sudden and rapid deceleration onto concrete, so getting a new phone was an emergency. Luckily the Pixel was coming out in 2 days. It was between the Pixel 4XL & the Note 10. Went with the Pixel. One serious knock is this baby is expensive. There's other phones out there that are cheaper (even previous versions of Pixels) so do consider that. I absolutely hate that the memory isn't expandable. That really, really sucks. And 64GB goes quick (yeah, I take a lot of pics and side load a lot of audiobooks). The fact you can't expand the memory is something that's always kept me away from Apple phones--that and I'm really not that impressed with them when I've played with them. Call quality is great. No problems. Sometimes the phone can be kinda sluggish. Don't know why, but it's just a hitch I've noticed. I hate that there's not a back button. You have to swipe. I don't like that particularly. I love the facial recognition. It's quick--really quick and cool. Google assistant has learned some tricks! Really speedy. That's a nice feature update. Now the camera--the camera is something else! That's pretty much why I bought it. I'm a serious amateur photographer and this phone is the one to beat. The night photography is fantastic! If you really want to up your night/star photos--mount this baby on a tripod and those star/moon photos are awesome! It automatically adjusts the time if you have it on a tripod so it stays open longer for those really cool shots. You can shoot in RAW--which for me as an amateur photographer just really loves. It makes editing in Lightroom a breeze. Even printing directly from the phone you get stellar prints. So pass on the phone for the crappy amount of memory, but stay for one heck of a camera! At this point I do kinda with I'd gone with the Note 10+ or Sl0 to be honest. But with the Pixel 4's going on sale for the holiday season, it might be more of a contender for you as it's a bit cheaper then when I bought mine.

    Great alternative to Apple iPhone

I have been using Apple for many years, but decided to leave the Apple proprietary-ness of certain features. After looking at various options, I chose the Pixel 4 XL. I was able to get most of the same apps (except Android versions), a few of the apps the developers did not have the Android version, but that was okay, there were many more similar apps out there. The Camera is GREAT. Very good images, love the zoom feature. Access to the phone using face recognition is a plus. a Gentile wave of the hand over the ringing phone silences the ring. So far, I had the phone for a couple of weeks and highly recommend it.

Anyone wanting a vanilla Android experience should look no further than the Google Pixel 4 XL. This phone has a quality build and feels very solid in the hand. Overall, everything works well together, given that it is all Android developed software. I am reasonably happy with the battery life, typically getting through a majority of the day, but also tend to plug the phone in the car for Android Auto. The camera on this phone is outstanding and love the stock camera app. Overall, I would highly suggest this phone to anyone who wants a phone that does not come with pre-installed bloatware or skins.

Best Android stock experience on a svelte device

I’m a mobile developer and the Pixel devices are a great addition to your arsenal. You get Google’s Android updates as soon as they come out, the ability to opt in to early betas of their newest OS, and zero bloatware. But make no mistake, this is no generic Android device. This is their flagship. The camera is great (not awesome), the size and weight are amazingly light for a phone this size, The screen looks beautiful and the features google packs to make it work with everything Google make it a phone you’ll use for years to come.

I did my research and looked at the Samsung S10 looked at the Samsung s20 and then also looked at the LG v60 and out of all of those phones the Pixel 4 had everything I liked and decided to go with the XL model and I've enjoying the ease of use, a fantastic cameras the strip down Android experience and looking forward to Android 11 on June 3rd

It is my first pixel and I am impressed with this phone. I had an iPhone 11 which was stolen and I bought the pixel to take advantage of the discount and honestly I will not go back, google pixel has a new fan. the best camera, best Android experience, better and faster face ID, spectacular sound, the battery is not the best but enough two days of charge, I am not a demanding user. Perhaps to a more demanding user, the battery will discharge faster. I recommend the pixel 4 xl, for me it is my new best phone for us600 there is no other better

This is the first phone with the built in Soli Chip for Sonar based Gesture Control. Now I don't need to physically touch my phone to go to the next track while listening to Spotify or even snooze my alarm. I do wish the phone had the fingerprint sensor still like the previous generation but the facial recognition does respond just as fast if not faster. Until my financial apps can use the facial recognition biometrics, it'll be a pain (albeit, only temporary) entering my password. Battery life has not been an issue either as some have been worried about.

If you are someone who MUST have the vanilla Android experience and all the latest software updates and features available at the earliest then and only then this phone is for you. But it still might not be worth the original price. I bought it after a $100 price cut and a $200 gift card thrown in and I can barely justify its price. Google is no longer the de facto camera king and the lack of an ultra wide angle camera is incomprehensible if there was any intention to brag about being "the best camera in a phone". I mean, seriously, how many times a year would you use the astrophotography mode vs the ultra wide angle mode? When it comes to performance and battery life, there are a ton of phones(much cheaper ones too like Oneplus 7 Pro) that surpass it. The direction Pixel is going into looks more like "I can do almost anything" vs "I excel in everything" which is not what Google promised when it moved away from the cheaper Nexus line to the "premium" Pixel series.

The night camera mode is much better on the 4 XL and works great. People have said you need to turn on the flash but I respond no worries it's the night mode, and when they see the picture their impressed. Not to mention the picture quality on regular lighting is top notch. Fast phone, no software delays and very happy with my purchase. I just would have liked to still have the fingerprint log in, but all in all the face recognition works just fine. You are taking a sec or 2 to log in when losing the fingerprint login, but if you don't mind that and are ok with just using your face then it's a solid 5 stars.

It was everything I expected. Stock Google phone, guaranteed updates, and the 90Hz display is amazing! Been a longtime fan of Nexus/Pixel phones, and very happy Best Buy carries the unlocked ones in store now.
