I was lucky to get the Pixel 6 and I could not be happier. I was using a 5 year old Android phone on my Google Fi plan. I didn’t think I needed an upgrade since that old phone was working fine, but I did not realize how much I was missing. Now since I haven't upgraded in the past few years this review is based on what is new to ME and it may not be new to those who have upgraded along the way. I intend to relay my experience with the Pixel 6 from that perspective. I have the stormy black version and it looks sleek. I will not go into the technical details as you can get them elsewhere, but I will point out that one of the specs is that the Pixel 6 is water resistant for 30 minutes to a depth of almost 5 feet.
The Pixel 6 came unlocked and my old phone used a SIM card. I come to find out that the Pixel 6 does not require a SIM exchange from the old phone. The transfer of all my data and APPS was easily accomplished by placing the old and new phones close together and have Google Assistant do the rest. It worked flawlessly. The transfer to the new phone was completed in around 15 minutes. I added fingerprint unlock and a few other options that the phone walked me through. Lastly my phone number was transferred to the Pixel 6 and I was all set to go. The phone is running Android 12.
The battery came almost fully charged and after all that setup the battery lasted me two additional days before needing to be recharged. This, mind you, is with all the additional use as I explored the phone while using Dark theme which saves battery life and I feel its a much richer look. The phone did not come with a USB wall charger, but what does these days?
The screen is clean and crisp and scrolling is super smooth when using the smooth display option which is on by default. There are many display options to choose from. This is the first noticeable improvement over the old phone but more was to be discovered.
The “Hey Google” call to the assistant works flawlessly, much better than on my earlier Android phone. The response is loud and clear and it understands my voice a bit better than my old phone. This is not new but I feel it is integrated a bit better.
I used the recording function and come to find out there is an automated process whereby the recording can be simultaneously transcribed to text. This is done without having to be online for supported languages. I was able to take the transcript and share it via any shareable method, I chose email. Easy. Imagine what this can do for the hearing impaired and copious note takers.
Live translate is a very useful feature. You can point the camera to a sign, lets say at a railway station, and have it immediately translated to English. I have used this to translate a document right off the screen of my PC. This will be helpful translating a menu during foreign travel. There is also an interpreter mode that allows you to translate by just taking turns speaking in your native language and have it translated. It is conversational, both parties just speak. I have done this and it works very well.
In my opinion the camera on the Pixel 6 rivals my HD-SLR produced by a well respected company. The most talked about feature is the eraser. This tool will remove a photo-bomber and unwanted items in your photo. In my experience it works great. I will include two pictures in the review to show how it removed people and other artifacts from the beach. This picture was not taken with the Pixel 6 but it was in the camera roll. The eraser automatically suggested removing people from my beach picture and I allowed it to do so automatically. I also manually removed someone on a small water craft and what looked like an anchor rope by just drawing a circle around the element to erase. No longer do I have to use a complicated program to edit my photos. There are many other editing options related to color, filters, cropping and many other tools presented in an easy to use format. I was able to include text on my picture and place it anywhere in the frame. The easy to take panoramic pictures are nice especially for large groups and landscapes. I have also used the BLUR and UN-BLUR features. Remember this is all done easily on the Pixel ! It is all very intuitive. I have also created HDR videos that look outstanding. The phone will create a link you can share with others to view the file, which can become quite large quickly. There are way too many photo options to go into here, but I believe they have included everything you need to up your photo game, as I have done. Video recordings can be in full HD at 1080p or 4K at 30 or 60 FPS.
Yes there is a bump on the top rear of the phone that houses the lenses. Its a bit odd but I'm past it now that I have been using the phone for a few days.
The Pixel seems to get smarter the more you use it. It suggested features I was not aware of after poking around the various menus. It reminded me to setup Amazon photo backup. Google photo was automatically setup for me earlier. It also suggested a method to allow messaging to also appear on my PC. This links the Pixel to your PC by way of a web page and allows me to receive and send SMS/MMS messages. Now I don’t have to keep reaching for my Pixel while doing PC based work to read incoming messages and reply as needed. This may not be new but its easy implementation makes this an easy to use feature. I use it all the time now.
Pixel 6 also suggested that I turn on call screening. There is a video explaining this feature and I have turned it on. I would get a few spam calls a day but so far none have rung through to me since they might be in the Google spam number database. If you are not in my contacts you will be asked to say why you are calling. If there is no answer to that question the call will ring thru but indicate the caller did not speak. If the caller does respond I will see a transcript of what they said. Either way at this point I can then either decline or answer the call..
Sprinkled around the various menus are what seem to be context based help files. I have found them very useful in setting up the various options on the phone, and be aware there are many. I did have to Google one or two help webpages, but just be aware that help is out there and easily found even for such a new product.
My experiences have all been positive with the Pixel 6. Maybe it was a good idea not to upgrade for a few years until a game changing product like this became available.

I recieved this item in return of my unbiased review. Coming from a galaxy S10 I like that Google include a built in fingerprint scanner, although this one is hit and miss it would definitely benefit from a firmware update to address its randomness. I do like the camera layout horizontally a cross the back, I only wish the camera bump wasn't a large of a bump as it is.
Android 12 looks and run so smooth on this new Pixel 6, and the ability to select the wallpaper colors is a nice new feature as well. Being a big user and early adopter of Google Assistant, I'm happy to see my smart devices at the top of my slide down setting menu. This makes toggling devices on and off a breeze when using my phone.
I do find the tensor chip to be very adequate for running any apps or games that I use daily without any hiccups whatsoever. Magic eraser wasn't as much of a cool feature that I thought it was going to be, it seems very hit and miss at removing people and or objects from pictures. I was hoping to be blown away by magic eraser but I really wasn't overly impressed.
My biggest complaint and letdown of this new Goggle Pixel 6 phone is the 5G, is horrendously slow when compared to other family members 5G phones like the Galaxy S20 Lite, and my sons Apple IPhone 13 mini. I was only able to score around 66 maps down and 32 up. Where as the S20 lite and IPhone 13 mini hits around 65 down and 51 up. I was really hoping for much better 5G speeds with this new Pixel 6. Google missed the mark with the 5G for me with this release.
Sadly with only having 128gb built in storage and no micro sd card slot, the phone is already 38% full already. Everyone seems to be copying Apple with no more expandable memory card slot. I really don't want to have to spend a monthly fee to store my photos on a cloud to save the phones storage.
I will say I'm happily looking forward toward the launch of the upcoming Galaxy S22 Ultra. As the Pixel 6 is a good phone, but needs more improvement to get me to fully switch from my normal Samsung ecosystem of phone, smartwatch, tablet and earbuds.

I consider myself a tech savvy person. I have a my lights, TVs, cameras, garage, air filters, consoles, laptops, Ipads, tablets etc all connected together. I’ve also had the luxury of owning a lot of different phones (HTC ONE, 10 and u11, Pixel 3, One Plus 7 Pro, Iphone 4,6,8,MAX Xs, Microsoft Surface Duo). Different phones had its pros and cons. I like the openness of the Android OS (HTC/OnePlus) but I felt the camera was always lacking. Iphones have the same layout and easy to use cameras. The Pixel 6 is a phone I was truly exciting to try out. Anyways,
Look and feel
Personally, I don’t mind the camera bar bump. The two tone color is a nice touch. The back has a glass like feeling that you would get from a $1000 cell phone. I am going to purchase a case for the Pixel ( to protect it when I drop it). So really the look of the case is what your phone would really look like in the end. I am more concern with the performance and usage of the Pixel than the look. One annoying thing is the Google search bar is locked in the bottom of the home screen. YOU CAN NOT REMOVE it. GOOGLE needs to fix this.
Setup process
Pretty straight forward. Transfer my old data and information from my other device (Android 11). Cable transfer didn’t work for me despite trying 3 times. Just use wireless transfer and worked. The phone needed to download an update to Android 12 took about 30 mins to download and install.
Search function
I think this is a kind of a cool feature. You have search your phone apps, contacts and settings in the search function.
Fingerprint sensor
Takes about half a second to a second to recognize my fingerprint and open the phone. Its about the same as my other phones. Nothing special about this.
Display smoothness
There is a noticeable difference between my old phone and the Pixel 6. I guess the 90hz refresh rate really makes a difference. Its smoother when scrolling and better on the eyes.
Assistant voice typing
It seems better and smooth when using the voice to text on the Pixel 6. It catches my words better than before. However the Interpreter mode is still lacking. At times, Doesn’t translate the meaning well enough. I think Google needs more help here but it’s a good step forward.
Camera System
This is what separates the Pixel 6 from all other cell phones (or maybe my expectation bar was set too low). Ive attached pictures I have taken in low light settings. 0.7x, 1x, 2x zoom. I’ve also used the Magic Eraser on a few photo to take a people. You can judge the quality of the magic eraser.. But it think this is one of the best feature of the Pixel 6. I can see how useful this tool will be for me and the family. Even previous picture that are stored in the Google photo can be edit by the Pixel 6. This is a great feature and I can see Google using this technology on their other devices.
I have used the Motion / action take pretty nice pictures, Long Exposure, Face Unblur (pretty good, but not perfect), 4x zoom still grainy, Ultrawide selfies (not
really ultrawide compared to others ive seen before). Overall I am pretty happy with the Pixel 6. At $599 it’s a great deal for what you get.
Battery Life
There is a lot of marketing and call out of the Pixel 6 battery life. My experience its not the best or the worst. On average usage of the Pixel I can get by (14 hour) but definitely have to charge it at night or in the morning.
Below is the “real” world testing for fast charging. On both test the Pixel 6 got warm in the case but not burning hot. Under 50% full you are looking at 12%-14% battery fill per 10mins of charging.
Charging from a 90watt laptop adaptor with USB Type C
Pixel started at 15%
After 10mins 29%
After 20mins 43%
After 30mins 57%
After 40mins 69%
Charging from a 60 watt cell phone quick charge adaptor
Pixel started at 5%
After 10mins 19%
After 20mins 33%
After 30mins 47%
After 40mins 60%
With all the good and the bad of the Pixel the best part is the price. Coming in at $599 I would definitely recommend this to anyone look for a new phone.

All the hype, for months ... I was excited for the Pixel 6. This phone really is quite disappointing overall!
What's good?
- The software is improved, and the new UI is nice. Though overhyped, it is certainly better than previous android editions.
- Great AMOLED 90hz display but falls a little short in direct sunlight.
- Great build quality and design! 10/10!
- Fantastic price - Nailed it!
- Speakers are quite good/loud. Not the best I have had but should do the trick!
- Wireless charging capabilities - though, see note below.
- No performance issues. Smooth sailing there. I don’t game, however.
- IP68 dust/water resistance!
- 5 years of guaranteed software updates - finally!
What's not good?
- The Camera. It IS good. It IS NOT great. Sometimes you get a 10/10 pic. Sometimes, it's a 7/10. I’m no camera ‘expert’ but some images, even to me, look artificially processed. It’s hard to describe, other than some photos just look fake. Night shots are so bright, they look like daylight shots. The wide-angle camera is above average, but a little soft in overall quality. The 2x toggle works but the output is not great even at the lowest 2x. Cropping into this 50mp sensor should be getting much better results. And at 4x-7x, it's not even worth taking a picture. Some of the resulting images looks like a water-color panting.
- Video is just okay. It needs to be improved as well.
- Fingerprint sensor is awful, inconsistent and needs an immediate software improvement! I have no idea why, after so many years of actual rear FP sensors, Google decided to use an optical one - but it's simply unreliable at best!
- Battery life is rather disappointing. 4 hours of screen-on time is not what I’d consider good. It’s supposed to learn your daily habits and improve, but out-of-the-box it’s not great.
- No charger in the box! I get that's the trend, but you can't change the charging technology and then not include a new charger with the first generation. I did purchase a 30-watt charger from Amazon specifically designed for this phone (SPIGEN - since the google store was a month out from shipping) but the results in terms of charging speed were quite disappointing. It still took 1hr & 45mins from 0%-100%. That isn't super slow, but it's not fast either. Not today.
- Wireless charging: To get the fastest charging, you need Google’s own wireless charger – which is still not available. Seriously!!? It will charge with a regular Qi charger, but at lower speeds. Why on earth is the wireless charger not yet available?
The bottom line for me is that nothing about the Google Pixel 6 is better than my iPhone 12 mini. That’s so disheartening! It might be someday, but it needs several software updates and improvements. Add to that the charger that’s not available and I’m left asking myself, “Is this phone really ready to be in the hands of the general public?” Answer: Probably not.

This is excellent price for the hardware you get. Phones with similar hardware are expensive. I have small hands and still can hold the phone just fine. Pixel 6 is actually faster than Pixel 6 Pro because it's using same processor, but running at lower resolution. Less pixels to process, thus it is faster.
The Good:
OLED display (90Hz refresh rate). Much deeper black than LCD sceen.
Camera
Signal strength (5G, no mmWave)
AI features (Magic Eraser, Live Translate, Voice Dictation, etc...)
The Bad:
Onscreen Fingerprint scanner is very slow or not work at times.
Wireless charging does not work when phone is warm.
Trouble reconnecting itself to cellular after going to places with no signal.

The Pixel 6 feels like what Google wanted to create when they first started making their own smartphones. It's a culmination of powerful hardware, a good camera and a nice screen that is tied together by software that is exclusive to the Google Pixel phones. Holding the Pixel 6 is a nice experience it feels well balanced in the hand and the high refresh rate screen was a joy to use as it immediately felt smoother than my older phone. The stereo speakers are nice and loud and with 128GB of storage I wasn't too worried about filling up my phone too fast. The Google Pixel line is known for having good cameras and the Pixel 6 does not disappoint in this regard (as you can see from my picture). There are a plethora of modes and different camera modes to use such as wide angle, 7x zoom, face unblur, magic eraser and motion mode as well as having a Locked Folder setting for your more personal pictures. The video mode is also strong and the audio portion of the videos is a giant leap compared to previous models. In addition to the great camera Google has taken security to another level with their new Titan M2 security coprocessor along with the fingerprint reader and new security settings like SoS mode (that will reach out to your contacts if you're in trouble) all help keep you and your phone secure. One of the software features that I loved was the phone dialer's ability to hold my place in line while I called a customer service 800 number, this feature saved me over 45 minutes of time and frustration especially with these phone lines being overwhelmed during the pandemic I can't say enough good things about this feature! All in all the Pixel 6 is a giant leap for Google and a great step to shakeup the higher end phone market with an affordable feature packed phone.

I had a Pixel 3a and was looking at getting a new phone as it was getting slow and the battery wasn't sufficient for my needs. I personally avoid flagship phones because of the price, so I was planning on getting a Pixel 5a. However, when the price of the Pixel 6 was announced, I immediately preordered it to use with Verizon.
The design of the phone is quite different from the previous Pixel phones. The body is a mix of metal and glass. This makes it feel like a dense and premium slab. Although it certainly looks nice, I immediately threw a case on as I don't trust myself handling it bare.
Performance and usability of the software is good. I haven't experienced any slowdowns and the refresh rate makes the experience even better. There are some minor UI glitches, but they don't adversely degrade the usability.
Although the fingerprint sensor is slower than the sensors of past Pixels, I feel that it's actually a bit more accurate. The proper way to use it is to press your finger down a bit longer. You can also try re-registering your finger or registering the same finger as an additional finger. Also ensure that your fingers aren't overly dry and cracking. It would be awesome if a secure face unlock (similar to Pixel 4) was implemented, but without the notch.
The battery is decent, but definitely not groundbreaking. Although this obviously blows my Pixel 3a out of the water, there is some catchup needed to best the iPhone 13. I've been able to charge this using non-PPS USB C chargers and a legacy USB A charger without issues. Interestingly, the latter takes 1-2s before charging is initiated. If you don't already have one, I wouldn't bother getting a PPS USB C charger since the charging time difference with non-PPS is fairly minimal.
Overall, this is an excellent phone for the price. If you're looking at getting a Pixel 5a, I would highly recommend shelling out a bit more cash for this if you can.

Looks great, works great, takes pictures great. Considering the price you're paying for all the features you're getting it's probably the best deal around for a premium phone. Initially some of the software was a little buggy but was eventually fixed through OS updates. Fingerprint sensor could be a little more accurate but still works well. Battery lasts all day and into late night even with heavy use.

I bought this phone from BB about two weeks after launch. After reading all the positive press, I decided to dive in. I used it it as I'd been using it as my daily driver for a couple of weeks. But ultimately, the some frustrations made me throw in the towel.
First, the positives: The phone is fast and responsive. Android 12 is great. The screen looks fantastic. Battery life was good for me. And the camera is generally pretty good. A bit more on that later. Bottom line: this is a very capable Android device, with a clean interface, good battery life, and enough power to accomplish most every task and game you would throw at it.
But countering this, I had three major complaints:
- The fingerprint sensor is garbage. Seriously, once you put a screen protector on it, it does not work. I tried all the purported solutions -- reregistering prints, registering prints multiple times, increasing sensitivity, checking for updates, etc. Given you have to deal with this every time you unlock the phone, it is a huge pain.
- The modem antenna on this isn't optimal. Google apparently didn't use the same cellular antenna on this as with its previous Snapdragon phones. And on the margins, it really shows. My office is in a brick building, and we have a parking garage on top of us. So cellular service isn't great. But on my old phone (a OP 8T), it was okay -- I could make calls and texts without issue. With this phone, about 1/2 my calls go direct to voicemail and texts may or may not go through. This is a deal killer for me.
- Finally, I did not find the color balance, particularly on low-light photos, to be all that accurate. I was doing some staging shots for our apartments -- nighttime, but with ample artificial light -- and the colors were way off. It clearly had something to do with the processing. But ironically, the shots from my mom's phone (a Moto G Power, which is NOT known for its photo prowess) looked a lot more true-to-life. I was really disappointed with this!
At the end of the day, I just went back to my OP 8T. Its camera may be a little worse, but at least I can make calls with it and unlock it reliably.

The Pixel 6 is a flawed, but still excellent mobile phone especially at its price point. The biggest drawback on the Pixel 6 is the fingerprint reader (when using a non-Google certified glass screen protector). I get about a 50% success rate and that's only if I line up my finger/thumb just right, press down hard, and hold it in place for 1-2 secs. The old capacitive type reader was much better. I also wish the phone was a little smaller and lighter, and had better front and ultrawide cameras. Despite all that, the Pixel 6 is a great buy with its premium build/feel, updated camera hardware, excellent onboard AI, very good battery life, and Android 12. It's not the most powerful phone, but it's fast enough for most users and most tasks, and I do enjoy all lot of the other benefits of the Tensor chip. For a "first" generation product, this has to be one of the best phones you can buy at this price.

Okay, first this phone is a nice phone. I don't see any need for a "pro" model. That's something I'm tired of from all makers. The camera upgrades are nice, The 90 hertz display is plenty, there is no need for 120 on a phone. Battery life.... Not great. I got much better battery life with my Pixel 4a5g and that has a smaller battery. The under display fingerprint sensor IS HORRIBLE! I've never had so many misreads from a fingerprint reader. I've basically given up trying to use it and just use a pin. The one thing pixel should have kept was the rear sensor. It's natural finger placement and reliability and speed made it one of the best readers for years. I'm seriously thinking of returning and just going back to that phone. I just don't see the point in spending money on the newer product if any of it performs worse than the previous models. Not even the "top-of-the-line" previous model, but the economy model a-series. If I was coming from the 3xl or even the 4xl then I would definitely keep this phone, but coming from last year's 4a5g, pixel 5, if you don't mind the smaller screen, or this year's 5a, I wouldn't rush into it. You're gonna get basically the same user experience. Even tho all those previous phones were mid- tier level phones, they're all on Android 12, after the release period of this phone all the previous models will see most of the new camera features. But hey, this is just my user experience, I'm not a phone gamer or anything, just a basic everyday user. The extra power of the higher tier chip set doesn't really matter to me. Pixel cameras have been on the top of the photo taking list for years with the 12mp sensor so that upgrade while nice, isn't really a NEED for me. I'm still unsure what I'm gonna do but if I had to do it again I would hold off on buying for a bit. I wanna give it three stars for the fingerprint reader alone, but I don't think that's fair. Four stars means it's darn good, but there's still room for improvements.

First one we purchased was doa, talked to Google support and they had me return the phone to Best buy, which I did with no hassle or issues. Unfortunately we had to wait for another one since the store did not have anymore. Once we did get our new one it has been a great phone, good battery life and great photos. Always appreciate the many security updates, advantages of Google support and exclusive features. Have had the pixel phones since the pixel 2. Enjoyed all of them

OK....Let me start with the fingerprint scanner. Its not great, so.....with that, it is one feature on the phone that is lacking out of hundreds of things that make this amazing. Every other complaint that I've heard about this phone has been a preference call. The battery life is great. Just this morning I had Youtube on for a solid 3 hrs. and my phone had drained to about 70%. The Camera is what really steals the show. A bit too much blur to the background in portrait mode, but pics can be adjusted and most people like that look. There has never been any other phone that has been a better point and shoot device. It makes almost every shot amazing. The build is fantastic. The glass on the back has an amazing feel and I actually love the look that the camera bar gives the phone. Android 12 has been solid for me so far and has a lot of really great, customizable features. Th equality of the 90Hz display is top notch. I came from a Samsung mid range phone with 90Hz and this display blows it out of the water. The prices of the 2 devices are very similar so you can guess which one. And finally.....Sorta Seafoam is beautiful!!

I did a lot of research on my next phone, and a lot of waiting until my current phone was practically dead before upgrading. I went into the Pixel 6 knowing exactly what was going to annoy me, and accepting that fact going in.
I got exactly what I expected plus a few surprises but I am happy to say I am really happy with the Pixel 6, and glad I did not get the 6 Pro. Although, I'm a little disappointed that the 7 was announced so very soon. If there was any indication I might have waited for that.
Anyway, the phone is great. I love the screen. Everything is vibrant, although I feel like the camera lacks the same vibrancy by default in the viewfinder so you always have to edit your photo afterwards to increase the colors.
The finger print reader is something I knew going in was going to be annoyance. I missed my back of the case fingerprint reader. It was fast and easy and convenient. The new in-display one is inaccurate and slow, only registering about 50% of the time, even after all the improvements suggested, and updates available. But here's the thing, it really doesn't annoy me as much as I thought it would. I have a screen unlock pattern set, and if it fails the fingerprint, or if you don't feel like trying it to see if it actually will register, you can swipe up on the lock screen and get your unlock pattern, almost as fast as it takes for the thing to register normally. I have no problem just doing this most of the time.
I was surprised how fast this was, I thinking as the lesser of the two Pixel 6 models that it would be slow or something but it has no issue even if I have tons of apps open.
The battery life has NOT been 24 hours as advertised. I usually get about 10-12 maybe. On a heavy use day I've made it through the day with ~10-15% to spare. Hotspotting will kill the phone. I saw it drop 20% in about an hour of hotspotting.
The phone gets warm when used in car mount with GPS and Bluetooth running. But I'm going to try a different mount that isn't sitting on the dash to try and counteract this.
There are a few software glitches. It frequently will not connect to my cars Bluetooth, or when drawing the Google Maps app over other apps it will glitch out sometimes but those are all Android problems and not issues with the phone.
Call clarity is outstanding. I never realized how bad my old phone was until I heard callers on this one. Although, the speakers are a little tiny and don't produce amazing sound.
The wireless charging works through the case without me having to place it perfectly as I did on my old phone.
And I really like the design. I got the mint variety, and the phone really is pleasing to look at without looking girlish or anything. I liked having White phones since my Nexus 6P which was silvery.
Overall I'm more than happy with this phone, although as mentioned, I'm disappointed in the fingerprint reader and I fear the Pixel 6 was their testing platform and the Pixel 7 will have different hardware that resolves the issue. But who knows.
Plus, Best Buy should have my back if anything goes wrong with it due to the extended warranty so I have some peace of mind.
