More than enough phone for 80+% of Android users!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would say that the Pixel 7a is close to the perfect phone for 80-90% of android users. I am an IT guy that usually buys 2 or so year old unlocked flagships and keeps them for a couple years. The cost dramatically drops from when they’re first launched, but this 7a changed that for sure. (Also having 128gb of storage stock is perfect for most users, more is better obviously, but being a midrange phone, this is a good amount) It is about comparable to 2 ish year old flagship in benchmarks, but it's a way better overall feel. Opening apps and navigating feels snappier, it must be because Google is able to bake in more streamlining due to them developing the chips as well as the OS. I had a bunch of little glitches here and there with my last phone, which was on Android 13 as well, but this 7a has very little in the way of quirks so far! The screen is a little dimmer than I'm used to, so I find myself running it between 80-100% brightness during sunny days, compared to 70-90% on my old phone. (it restarted on me a couple times, but it was up again so fast that I was up and running way faster than my last phone when it locked up) Coming to a “raw” Android experience has also been a long time. The little AI stuff baked right in is awesome, and may be old news for others, but blew me away a couple times. (Seeing the name of a random mariachi style song/artist in my local Mexican food joint just chilling on the sleep/lock screen was super cool! I use the song detection all the time now!) The Android assistant seems to work much better on this vs my old phone. The voice recognition seems to be more accurate, and catches me saying “hey Google” from my pocket, vs my old phone that pretty much had to be quite close to my face without and never seemed to work in my pocket. The greatest strength for Google phones is in the camera by far! My old phone could never get a good picture of my young toddler due to moving almost nonstop. This phone can snap STELLAR moving pictures, and in the rare case that the phone doesn’t keep up to her moving, the unblur feature can clean up the picture enough to be fine for sharing with family or on social media. (you might not want to print “unblurred” photos, due to some ghosting/noise noticeable up close) TLDR - Unless you're an ultra power user, or need more storage, the Pixel 7a is near perfect, and has years of support ahead!

A snappy upgrade for a great price.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coming from a Pixel 6 Pro (Px6P) the 7a is a welcomed upgrade at a comfortable price point. The past several phones I have used, have been Pro sized, because big hands, and is usually a factor in my next upgrade. I have used 'normal' sized phones for work (no choice in size of phone), and this was bigger than my old work cell.. The 7a has the new G2 Tensor processor and the speed is noticeably faster compared to my Px6P, and the display is bright, colorful and crisp. I love how it adapts quickly to ambient light, inside to outside. I was pleasantly surprised by the camera, however I wouldn't expect less from Google. Their software hasn't ceased to amaze me. My favorite feature is the magic eraser that wipes out selected nuisances. I also love the portrait mode, as my dog is very photogenic. That being said, battery life is hard to gauge for me, as the Pro / Max models have a bigger batteries. The 7a will last me eight hours on a single charge. Or I find my self plugging in more frequently, and there's Qi charging so if you have Qi pads about, this will work with them. Security is tight, I use a finger print/pass-code combo because I have work related items on my device and I do take security in mind. I rest easy knowing my work access is secure. The finger print scanner is hit or miss, but it only allows two or three attempts before it requires a numeric code. It has a neat security center that gives you info on Call quality is okay, depending on network, but one feature I have grown to love is the spam screen call feature. It answers the call for you and tells the caller that you are screening this call. So far everyone hangs up and my voicemail isn't clogged with robo-calls. And it's PURE Android. No bloat-ware that duplicates what the base apps already do. Setup from my Px6P was easy, I just connected the USB-C cable to both phones, hit a few buttons and and watched as the two talked to each other and transferred my data over without a second though.

Exceeds expectations
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely love the Google phones. Amazing cameras, amazing battery life, and easy to use. I will stick with Google phones for a long time. I will say the screen is fragile (like most phones now a days) so definitely invest in a good phone case!

Awesome device
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upgrade from the 6a. I enjoyed the 6a, but once the 7a was discussed and leaked I was sold on the device. Since owning the 7a my initial reaction has been very positive. Now that the device has a 90hz refresh rate, which you have to turn on in settings due to not being on out of the box. I have also seen a significant difference in camera quality from the 6a. What astonishes me about the device is that it's only $499 and you currently get a $50 gift card at time of purchase.

Google Pixel 7a - High performance, lower cost!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love it so far! Super easy to turn on, transfer over prior phone data and get going! Very intuitive and similar to the Android operating system but includes helpful tips and tricks that pop up in real time. Love the wireless charging and a battery that lasts all day when I'm using my phone for work. The only negative I've experienced matches what other reviews say in that this phone tends to get warm quickly. This is not as noticeable when in a case and does not seem to impact performance. Overall very happy with this purchase and upgrade!

Great Phone after 3 Weeks Use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great phone thus far (3 weeks usage) but haven't explored too much yet. Powers up and shuts down fast. Battery life seems really substantial, charging every 3rd day, but I'm not a data consumer. I wish the fingerprint sensor worked for me, but no go. Easiest phone to text on, but maybe that credit goes to Android 14. some functions quite different than Samsung but hopefully I will see those as improvements after a few months of usage

Awesome
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far this phone has met all of my expectations! I was already a Google pixel fan. My previous phone was a Google Pixel 4 so upgrading to the 7A wasn't much of a difference system wise. But the camera is awesome and I'm definitely enjoying the phone. I like that it is more compact and easier to hold than the pixel 7 as well. The 5 zoom option on the back camera is really great for scenery photos

Step backwards from the 5a in most ways
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In most ways, this phone is a step backwards, hardware-wise from the Pixel 4a 5G it replaced. The worst parts being the elimination of the headphone jack and moving the rear mounted fingerprint reader below the screen. The nice things about the cut out for the rear screen reader is that it gave you a tactile guide to putting your finger in the right spot, which improved accuracy and meant you could blindly unlock your phone. You can't unlock this phone blindly. By adding the same finger to the unlock settings at least twice and being careful about the position of your hand, the unlock accuracy becomes decent enough that it is still more convenient than using a PIN to unlock. Unfortunately, you simply can't find wired headphone jacks or rear-mounted fingerprint reader in any flagship or upper mid-tier new phones, so even though this phone is a step back from its predecessors, there aren't actually any better alternatives to it either. At least the screen is nicer, though that doesn't make any practical difference in usability.

Great performing phone for a great price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded from the Pixel 4a and this is a great match. Not too much bigger, very snappy performance, and a lot more features in the software plus a very nice display and camera. Overall it's pretty feature rich for the price and I'm glad I upgraded.
