Disappointing pixel 8

I traded up from a previous pixel phone. The touch screen is not sensitive like my previous model. In fact it is frustrating and would not recommend the phone nor purchasing from Best Buy. They charge to transfer the data to your new phone.

I pre-order the Pixel 8 and was excited for the new features after watching several reviews. After opening the box I was so disappointed! The phone is a lot smaller than my Pixel 7. The buttons on the bottom have beeen removed and you have to learn how to swip instead. The phone felt heavy and bulky in my hand. Unfortunately it cost me $35 to return the phone but I would rather use my Pixel 7. Also, Best Buy would not honor the Pre-order promotion if I traded for a Pro 8. Sad because I was so excited and confident I would be happy with the new phone.

Standard box accessories, USB-A to C adapter, SIM Pin,
Warranty Guide, USB-C to C cable for charging and data transfer. While smaller,
the Pixel 8 is smaller, it does fit in your hand very nicely and feels
comfortable for use. Google continues to use the elevated camera bar. Aluminum
frame with a matt finish to the frame. This phone has a lot of similarities to its
bigger brother. Right out of the box, when you finish setting the phone up, you
are faced with a massive update to the AndroidOS. The update takes around 40-45
minutes from start to finish, while initial setup takes 10-15 minutes, pending
what you’re bring over and any app updates and/or installs. The support offered
is around 7 years of AndroidOS updates, compared to others offering less. Personal
safety features have been updated for improved life saving options and
contacts. Google 1’s VPN is a nice touch if you’re not already running a form
of VPN. Supports SIM and eSIM options for those that travel abroad and need a
secondary SIM. The contrasts adjust very nicely providing a nice clean and
crisp display. At it’s max brightness, it’s comfortable to still see in highly
lit areas. The sound quality is good, does seem a little quiet and may distort
at times. The Tensor Chip used continues to show ever increasing responsive and
load times, stable frames rates across. Some stumbles here and there on the max
graphics settings. Phone does heat up a little bit under heavy use, not enough
to stop you from playing on. The game dashboard adds options for optimization,
not for all games and livestream to YouTube. Battery drain last a full day thus
far under normal use, heavy use, will need a touch charge to get through a long
day.
Photos focusing is very nice throughout most conditions to
include low lighting. Has the same similar camera hardware as its big brother,
missing some app features on the Pro series. The auto focus feature works very
well to bring you shot into focus very quickly. The selfie cam does miss out on
autofocus the Pro series has. The Magic Editor allows you to do more than in
the past; moving people around and removing extra from your captures. The Audio
Magic cleans up any background noise that otherwise ruins your audio captures. Best
Take allows you to swamp faces of the same person to a different one to create
the perfect photo you’re looking for. This works extremely well with children
that change their faces often while snapping photos.
Overall, really wnjoy this phone from the way it sits nicely in your hands, its size to pocket ratio, responsiveness, and charge times.

Broken phones sold

If I could give less than one star, I would. I went into Best Buy to purchase a new Google Pixel 8, and was assured by the staff that the phone I bought was brand new. It worked fine for about 3 months, then after a routine update, it suddenly lost its IMEI number and completely stopped working.
After contacting Best Buy for help, they wanted to charge me $40 just to look at the phone—a device that is most likely refurbished despite being sold to me as new. It’s starting to feel like a scam: sell refurbished or defective phones as new, and then charge customers every time something goes wrong.
I expected better from a major retailer like Best Buy. I’m incredibly disappointed and will not be returning.

If your phone is 5+ years old it's an okay upgrade
The Pixel 8 from Google is a budget phone at best. Many of it features have been neutered due to Google's software lock choices.

I picked up the phone yesterday - after setting it up, I noticed it started rebooting itself every 15-20 minutes.
I've factory reset it a few times with the same results - even with just the stock applications installed.

The employees at Best buy were very kind and helpful but the pixel 8 has been wildly disappointing. Literally from unboxing and using it brand new it has had issues. I'm not sure if it's 50 F and lower temps or any droplets of moister on the screen that triggers it but often when I open camera especially outside my phone freezes, shuts down, then restarts. Very frustrating bug. Missing candid moments of smiles to having to stay longer somewhere on a trail that feels unsafe in order photograph trail damage, it's a problem. And literally, a brand new phone. Got this to replace my Google pixel 6 which was wildly susceptible to water damage, thinking that pixels arent going to be my brand anymore after this.

Bought my phone Nov 2023 & have had issues with it distorting voices when using bluetooth & sometimes my calls are not being picked up on my phone. I was told by Best Buy to contact google. I have only been able to send messages & receive no replies. I can't contact anyone by phone. The worst customer service I have ever experienced.

As mentioned with other reviewers, the back of the phone gets hot very easily. This happens when I play a game or watch Youtube for more than 15 minutes. The main issue though is the horrible battery life. I would go to bed with it at 40% and wake up to the life at 2%. I don't even want to know how it drains when I'm using Google Maps to find my destination. My old phone of 5 years does better than this (Razor 2). For all of the Razor's current flaws, I much rather deal with those than an unreliable battery life.
