Good (mostly) step forward for the Pixel series!

Excellent build quality and Google exclusive software features. Still has plenty of bugs but should be smoothed out with each update. Screen is a noticeable improvement over previous iterations. Hardware longevity has been put into question given recent performance reviews. Still a great overall package.

    Budget Phone at Best

Please note that I have been an avid, large-screen, high-end LG phone owner for 10 years. My LG Velvet was water-damaged in a waterproof phone pouch recently and I had to make the dreaded switch to a new brand. I love Google and thought for sure they had figured out how to make a decent phone by now. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The processor lags. I am flabbergasted as to how it freezes up briefly(it's almost 2024) The touchscreen calibration sucks( it's almost as bad as my LG Velvet after water damage) Accessing apps by swiping up or to see all open apps is a pain with no home screen button. going back is also tedious especially if you are browsing photos while shopping on Amazon as you swipe from the right side to go back.. If Google wants to survive in the smartphone industry they can as they clearly have market presence, but their technology leaves a lot to be desired. Google would be wise to buy LG's proprietary technology and use a Qualcomm processor. I am a PC user otherwise I would switch to iPhone after LG exited the market because Samsung flushed them out on a global scale. After giving Google a shot, I am going to try the S23 Ultra as it has 15k reviews with an average rating of 4.7 at the moment. * I read one review on the Google Pixel 8 from Best Buy, If memory serves, and it stated the Pixel 8 is a budget phone at best, that if your phone is 5+ years old, the Pixel 8 is an ok upgrade. This review is Spot On! Having owned phones with large screens for 10 years and struggling with fitting them into my pockets, I was hoping this Pixel 8 would nail it performance-wise The only positive thing I can say about the phone is I love the size as it fits in my board shorts. The camera looks impressive, but I didn't get a chance to try it. * Also, LG used to have software called LG Bridge that you downloaded to your PC. This software would save your phone programming and formatting precisely. If you ever lost your phone, broke your phone, and simply wanted to upgrade, all you had to do was take your new phone, plug it into your PC, and activate the LG Bridge phone setup transfer. I am highly organized and have over 100 apps organized in folders on my home screen. No other cell phone company offers this and for some reason, LG Discontinued this just before shutting down their cell phone department. But please recognize, this was the ultimate way to set up a new phone and saved so much time. It streamlined the entire process.

Upgraded from Pixel 4 and I don't see much of difference between the 2 phones other than the long battery life for the new phone. I liked my pixel 4 so overall this phone is solid for the $549 price.

The Google Pixel 8 - Fantastic!

I love my Google Pixel 8. The technology is fantastic! I am hearing impaired and my phone works directly with my hearing aid! I can also set up closed captioning so I can understand people during a phone call. It also captions words spoken on YouTube videos, etc. I am still learning how to use the camera settings; there are so many functions! This phone gives me new capabilities that I have never experienced before. I give it a 5-star rating!

While I'm glad Google is offering nearly a decade of updates, this, being the smallest conventional smartphone on the market was still annoying to interact with physically. I ended up getting a Motorola Razr + and I use mostly the external display. If Google did a folding phone that folded down, rather than out I bet it would be great. All of the software on these work well, but so many companies ignore the tactile aspect of design, and Google is no exception. Due to the lack of update and support, competition is stifled. I loved my Unihertz phones (Jelly series) and Palm tiny phone (except for battery life), but without updates, communication can become unreliable or worse unsecure.
