This phone has been a big improvement from the Pixel 7 in nearly every aspect. Here is a list of the improvements over the 7:
- Camera: both cameras are improved in the level of detail. The video looks better anhas less artifacting. And the addition of a macro lense mode is a really welcome (and functional) addition.
- Face unlock! The fingerprint reader is the same as the 7, so it's mediocre. Being able to unlock using my face for all possible biometric access methods. Seriously, if nothing else changed from the 7 to the 8, this would be worth it.
- Smaller (slightly) phone -- they shrunk the size of the phone and rounded the edges more. Just makes the phone feel more comfortable in-hand.
- Screen -- 120 hz screen refresh and the improved clarity, color, and brightness of the screen make this the 2nd most update welcome change over the 7
I did mention one thing which knocked the phone down from a 5 to a 4 and it's the cellular (5G especially) reception. With the 7, I had really reliable and strong 5G signal in most of area I live. I didn't have handoff issues, and I consistently got 5GUC (TMobile).
With the 8, it seems like the modem in the phone took a step back to the issues that the Pixel 6 were purported to have. I don't know if the issue is just the phone since it has the same modem as the 7, so perhaps it's in conjunction with Android 14 and the new hardware.
I'm thinking this may be resolved with software in the future, but I was disappointed to see the network connection struggling in areas where it was strong with my 7. If you are away from wifi, you can expect a reduced battery life as well because the phone is struggling with getting a consistent signal.
Overall I'm still mostly satisfied, and this could become my favorite Pixel of all time if they can fix the reception issues.

Juan, Ray and the whole front desk team were excellent. I came in last Friday night to buy a new phone because my old one was having trouble charging. I needed the new phone for work early the next day. I came into the store around 9pm and was unsure if I would get what I was looking for. I enjoyed using my pixel 6 so I decided to upgrade on the same brand to a pixel 8. I saw online there was a promotion going on where the price was $499. I asked if that phone was in stock and the front desk team helped me find just what I was looking for. I explained my issue with the old phone and they offered a trade-in. I went forward with it as they said they could apply the credit to my new phone. Unfortunately I didn't have my driver's license on me that night so I was told I could come back in tomorrow or Sunday to apply the credit to the new phone, while still purchasing the pixel 8 then and there. I went to work the next day and the new phone worked great, had high speeds, and everything got transferred from my old pixel. I went back in Sunday morning to see if I could repurchase the new phone with the applied credit from the trade-in for the old pixel. I was told that Sunday morning the price for the phone went back up to $699, and I couldn't go forward with the return to add the credit. Juan, the store manager, let me know the reasoning behind it, and also explained that a possible option would be if I was a Best buy membership holder I could return the phone, wait until the price went back down, and repurchase it with the added $80 discount then. I appreciated his advice, but decided that $200 off was already a substantial discount and was overall happy with the purchase. I did go forward and trade-in the phone and still received the $80 credit, which I used to purchase a phone case the front desk team helped me find. Outstanding customer service, great team, upper management is definitely running this store with excellence!

Everyone said it was a good phone. The only good thing I can say is that it looks pretty (the glass back and color are very nice). Everything else is not worth at the original price point.
It started to heat up and having mic issues within a week of purchase. Sent it to google to have it fixed, they fixed the mic thing but phone still heats up with regular browsing with all flashes like animations/drawers etc turned off. It's a powerful piece of hardware but it's not well optimized like Samsung and not worth the price.
IMO old gen pixels had better camera quality too. I have had this pixel for a year and would not buy again if given the chance (unless under 300). I would opt for Samsung flagship instead or regular galaxy series at the original phone purchase cost.

I have had a pixel phone for more than 5 years. This latest is super- compact, with enough processing speed, a great camera and years of updates. Winner!

I purchased the Pixel 8 the day it came out. It was an upgrade from my Pixel 5. I must say it is an upgrade. The photos are absolutely wonderful! There is a difference when scrolling so it is smoother. Seamless. The fingerprint scanner I don't have an opinion on it. It's just what it is. It works well. I have only had the phone for a couple of weeks. The only opposition at this time is the messages. But I am not sure if it's the phone or my carrier. I am not able to receive them and hard to send. I keep running into an error. But time will tell what's happening. Other than that really great phone. Every phone has it's stumbles at first so you can't get upset.

Pixels were usually considered best phones for a clean Andriod experience. Pixel 8 takes it further and is probably one of the best smartphones with great camera, clean OS, regular software updates, lots of helpful/smart features and overall very well rounded software-hardware tech. I have been a pixel user for a couple of years now, have had issues here and there since the Pixels started to use their own Tensor chips but every feature seems to be getting better and better inching towards optimum performance. Highly recommend.

my 3 yr old pixel 5 started to split apart and its had other issues like volume problems and fingerprint sensor being inconsistent. plus battery life has dropped. Pixel 8 was in stock and easy to migrate to before I lost the display on the old phone. The pixel8 is slightly larger and heavier, but not huge. i value a smaller phone so that's why Went with the 8. camera and photo editing is great. I've used samsung but am happier with the google interface.

I had a Google pixel 7 and I fell in love with the pixel family of products! Unfortunately my old phone has been stolen so I decided to upgrade to the pixel 8 and I couldn't be happier . The camera is improved with amazing features like magic eraser and improved night vision. Longer battery and increased protection against spam calls which I love! Plus it has the ability to customized like an iPhone with widgets, a color theme and unique clock displays

The Google Pixel 8 in Obsidian is a photography powerhouse, boasting an impressive camera system that truly stands out. The primary 50MP wide-angle lens captures stunning detail and vibrant colors, providing a fantastic overall image quality. Google's renowned computational photography techniques enhance the shooting experience, ensuring sharpness and clarity even in challenging lighting conditions. The inclusion of Night Sight and Astrophotography modes further solidify its low-light capabilities, allowing users to capture breathtaking shots in various settings.
In addition to its primary lens, the Pixel 8 features a 12MP ultra-wide lens that expands the creative possibilities. This lens excels in capturing expansive landscapes or fitting more subjects into the frame, making it an ideal choice for group shots or architectural photography. The ultra-wide lens maintains excellent color accuracy and detail, delivering a consistent and cohesive visual experience across different shooting scenarios.
For selfie enthusiasts, the Pixel 8's 12MP front-facing camera is a standout feature. Equipped with advanced facial recognition and portrait mode capabilities, it ensures that your self-portraits are not only sharp but also beautifully composed. The front camera's ability to create natural bokeh effects adds a professional touch to selfies, making the Pixel 8 a top contender for those who prioritize high-quality front-facing camera performance. Overall, the Google Pixel 8's camera system is a comprehensive package, delivering exceptional versatility and image quality for both amateur and professional photographers alike.

The best feature is the AI-Powered Camera that always enhanced the experience of capturing the moment. The design itself is standalone, which make it unique from other phones. It is definitely worth the money I spent and perfect gift for my wife.

Love this phone. I previously had a Pixel 5 and loved the size and shape. When I upgraded to the 7 it was good but too big and heavy and the fingerprint sensor sucked.
Now on the 8 the fingerprint sensor and face unlock are superior to the 7 for me. The 120hz and super bright display is awesome. The size and weight is very comparable to the Pixel 5 but now with the tensor G3 instead of the budget processor of the 5.
Overall very happy with the purchase and pre-order/trade in experience with Best buy.

The 8 is just the right size it feels great one handed.
Battery life could be a bit better however it changes so fast if you have a long day it's easy to get a quick 5 min charge in. Screen brightness is very good one of the brightest phones I've seen. The OS is perfect with the Google ecosystem I replaced a pixel 7 that I hated before read a pixel 4 and loved it so maybe go with even pixels.

I had to replace my phone rapidly and unexpectedly. I had trouble getting the phone I wanted from my carrier, but I was able to order my new Pixel 8 from Best Buy on line, and I had it in less than two hours.
The display is amazing. The camera is wonderful, with the editing and effects very And as an older person, I really appreciate the sound clarity when speaking on the phone.
