A savvy reviewer for Ars Technica has opined about the ballooning size of phones these days, and said that the Pixel 8 is a move in a better direction. He's right!
In terms of size, feel, and usability it really is what I'd hoped for. I've been using it for just over 2 weeks and I couldn't be happier.
I've kept my Pixel 3, as a backup, and still marvel at the great combination of form and function. The ease of one-handed use and its comfortable pocketability made it an ideal size. And, yes, the 3 is smaller than the Pixel 8.
I got a Pixel 7 last year and found it to be too unwieldy, too big, and actually uncomfortable to use. Sure, it wasn't as big as a Pro model, and I didn't need to hire someone to hold it for me when I used it. But I wasn't at all happy with it.
Hearing early on about a somewhat smaller version this year, I didn't think twice about trading in my 7 to get the Pixel 8. And I'm glad I did.
With the upgraded specs the Pixel 8 seems faster, the battery lasts quite long, photos are great, and I can even make phone calls!
But the size is the main factor for me. While it's only marginally smaller than the 7, the Pixel 8 seems much trimmer, sleeker. It just fits. And it's much, much easier to use with one hand.
This new, upgraded phone has everything one would expect from a Pixel. But the welcome modest reduction in size is an unexpected delight.
I got the Hazel Pixel 8, and it looks great. It's muted, and not garishly green or intentionally discordant. There's a bit of gray mixed in with the hazel color, which, to me, really makes for a distinctive look. Honestly, I might have thought of getting something in silver, if they had one. But I'm really liking the Hazel.
Now that Pixels will have a full 7 years of system and security updates I'm looking forward to having this phone for a long time. And I might, maybe, even give my Pixel 3 to someone soon.

Google's latest flagship product continues to build upon its predecessor. This phone is fast, has plenty of memory and storage to meet the most demanding users, and will be supported until at least 2030. The display, photos and battery life are good, and what I would expect from a mid-range phone.

So I traded in my Pixel 7 at bestbuy without any problems they were very helpful at the bestbuy in Mission Viejo . It has better screen, battery and feel in the hand the Pixel 7. the only thing is it still does get a little warm at times and I don't thing the modem is on par with Samsung phones as I've notice I don't get the same signal strength that I got with my Samsung . The haptics are great on the phone , maybe the best of any phone . Oh and the speech to text is almost perfect . The main camera takes good pics in every circumstance. If you want a smallish phone you can't go wrong with this one

I got this for right around $500 for the 256GB. At that price it is an amazing phone. It gets all the updates and features of the Pro except the camera. Call screening and AI features are great. In fact, it can do more by voice and handsfree than any phone I've seen. I thought the performance for games and opening was not noticeably different from higher end phones. If you like small phones it is a keeper. Despite slower charge rates it charged quickly on a PD charger and lasted all day.

I recently purchased this phone and I have to say, I am thoroughly impressed with it! The design is sleek and modern, and the screen is crystal clear. The camera takes amazing photos and the battery life lasts all day. Additionally, the phone is incredibly user-friendly and I had no trouble navigating through its various features. I would highly recommend this phone to anyone in the market for a new one!

Upgraded from Pixel 4a 5G - very impressed with the phone so far. Looks and feels good, the display is good, fast, the battery easy lasts a day and a half, pure android, and of course a great camera. Unless you are locked into Apple's ecosystem, this is the phone for the masses.

Solid camera phone. Bought this as an upgrade from my 4a5G, which has lasted longer for me than any cell phone in the last 15 years. Hopefully this one lasts as long. Performance has been great, and having the 256GB version gives me plenty of storage. All in all the camera takes good shots. I'm slightly disappointed in the colors it produces when taking pictures of sunset clouds. It processes in a way that diminished the saturation and vibrance of the scene. In that aspect, this is the worst I have owned in many years. Hoping that shooting RAW in those times will allows edits to get to what my eye was seeing. Video, on the other hand, has been really great to work with. Something I will be working with more. Cellular connectivity has been very solid in the time I have had the phone. Haven't even had to drop to 4G manually to get good performance on T-Mobile in S. Phoenix. Which was entirely necessary on the 4a 5G. It is slightly narrower than my previous phone, and fits my hand well.

The phone is great. After one year with it I can safely say it meets all my needs. The processing speed is amazing and has not dipped. The display is wonderful too. The phone's resilience is to be commended as I've dropped the phone more times than I'd like and it has held up every time. I fully intend to stick with this phone until I absolutely have to change it.

This phone works great for probably 95% of the people who don't actually use/need the latest high-end "status symbol" phone. It does everything I need it to do and does it well. The cameras are very good for what most people need. There is sufficient memory for tons of photos. I keep my phones for several years so the guaranteed Android support for at least 3 versions was one of the biggest factors to me. Apps not working on older Android versions is typically what forces me to a new phone.

Almost a month of use and it's quite nice. It takes great pictures, most apps and web activity are fast, and the battery last almost all day with regular use. Definitely the best phone I've had so far.

YouTube has better reviews of this phone. But I'm coming from an S22, and the camera, battery, and clean android launcher is an upgrade. Other than that the performance and screen quality feels the same
Only annoying issue is the fingerprint scanner is not as quick nor accurate as the Samsung. On paper it's nearly the same size as the S22/S23 but for whatever reason it feels larger in my hands.
Only reason I got it was good trade in value for my Samsung without the need of getting stuck on a payment plan nor contract. The trade in and purchase was painless at my local Best Buy store.

After using Iphone for the last few years, i did some research on what phones were base android and came across the google pixel, i havent owned an android for roughly 6 years, i made the right choice and came to android, specifically the pixel. It has a long battery life (screen on time about 6 hours), base software with no bloat wear, easy to navigate UI with base android, amazing camera for videos (4k 60) and camera shots with amazing detail. Id recommend this phone to anyone who wants the base android experience for a good price or if youre coming from iphone.

Not as pleased as I thought I would be. Maybe I'm just learning the phone still but there are many things I wished I'd read more closely about. Primarily the zoom on making photo's, 8x is it. There are some other cute function that are fun to play with but really disappointed in the zoom. Included sounds for alerts and notifications are few and not very "ear catching" and navigating around in the phone seems like Google made it intentionally hard. For years and years i had an LG phone which had plenty of bells and whistles and was so simple to navigate. Quality wise, it's sturdy, and fairly lightweight and the video is very clear. The "in phone" video edit is complicated compared to previous phones. As I continue to use it, I'm sure the OS will become easier. If you are not really tech savy, you might want to watch a lot of video's before getting this phone. So far I have been super pleased with the battery life, unless I do a lot of video or live recordings. That drains it pretty fast.

The phone works great! No issues so far.
Camera is awesome, picture and video quality is really great, even recording at night or in dark gives good result compared to other phones like IPhone or Samsung.
Phone battery lasts longer, sometimes more than 24 hours, but really depends on the usage.
Overall, a very good phone.

It’s a great day to day phone with nice enough battery life. Software experience is the best with so many customization. You will never fill bored using this phone. It sadly can’t perform as well as samsung phones in terms of gaming and graphic intensive task which requires great amount of processor power. I wish a custom google chip should be atleast as good as qualcomm chip of that year if not better. But the price is very competetive (during the sale) which makes this phone the best phone for that price range.

Very good phone, camera, operating system, display is wonderful. Easy to use. Worthless without some sort of case...WAY to glassy smooth and slippery. There is ZERO anything on this phone that is conducive to human hands gripping it. Hey, let's make an $800 item that is breakable and make it as slippery as possible so people drop it daily. Phone is very good though.
