GoPro Ups Their Game This Year

GoPro has recently released their new action camera, the GoPro HERO10 Black. It has a number of tech features that will help your video come to life on your 4K TV. The package comes with the camera, a short USBC-to-USBC cable, rechargeable battery, slightly curved stick-on base, attachment hinge, bolt connector, carrying case, and some paperwork. It comes with a 1-yr manufacturer's warranty. Rather than go over every single spec of the camera, I will mainly go over my experience as the end user. The specs are already available on this product page. This will be my 2nd GoPRO HERO camera. I also have have the HERO4 Black so this is quite the upgrade for me. PROS: --------- * There are a crazy number of resolutions available, but at 5.3K, this unit can handle up to 60fps and at 4K, up to 120fps, down to HD (10800) which can handle up to 240fps. That's incredible resolution for a small action camera. Clarity on a full 4K TV is quite good. * The simplicity remains with 1 button start/stop and the 1 button mode select + ON/OFF. Everything else is on the nice and laid out touch screen with good finger sensitivity and responsiveness. * Initial setup was a breeze with my V60 microSD card inserted. A minimum of a V30 microSD card is recommended if you record at the 4K+ level due to write limitations of the card. Go for V60 to future-proof yourself. * As with the last few iterations of the HERO, the connection flaps fold up into the body to keep from having to use a camera holder like older models. * The biggest PRO for the GP10 is the new GP2 processor based on the emails I have received from GoPro direct. The previous processor apparently had issues with freezing and couldn't keep up with the better tech the camera had to offer. The GP2 has solved many of those issues. * Video stabilization works really well. After attaching to my 4-wheeler and going on trails, the video is quite smooth compared to this feature being off. This feature is called Hypersmooth 4.0 and it a great upgrade from the last versions of the Heroes. * The hydrophobic lens helps significantly with water-shedding off of the glass. * It's waterproof to around 33 feet without a scuba casing. * Has a forward-facing camera so you can see what's being filmed if using a stick or other extension accessory. * Quik app connects to the camera wirelessly as it has done in the past. It has an adequate editor, but obviously, you may opt for a premium PC version. * It has the ability to attach various GoPro mods that make the camera a bit better for audio, lighting, connections, etc. CONS: --------- * I have found the battery compartment to be incredibly difficult to open though it is very sturdy. This is done to keep the unit waterproof. * The 1-yr GoPro subscription discount is a bit deceiving giving $100 off the initial price. If something happens to your camera, and you want camera replacement, there is a $99 service fee, and the yearly fee is $50 and will be renewed until you cancel. There are some other perks like live streaming, unlimited cloud backup, and discounts on accessories, but I'm not so sure the value is worth it, at least not for me. For those that take a crazy amount of video, perhaps this program could be a benefit. OTHER OBSERVATIONS: ------------------------------------ * The case is a nice touch; you'll want to remove the inside camera holder to open up the storage area. Keep the camera in a wash cloth inside the case so other accessories don't damage the camera while in transit. * Once you get inside the battery compartment, this is where you'll find the USB-C charging connection/data port and the microSD slot (see picture). * I know I'm a few iterations behind (HERO4), but I hate that I have to buy new batteries since the old batteries do not fit the new camera. The good news for Hero9 users is that those batteries will fit the Hero10. Batteries used prior to the Hero9 are not compatible. CONCLUSION: ============ Overall, GoPro listened to the complaints from the previous GoPro, the Hero9. This camera needed a new processor, and GoPro upgraded to the new GP2. After using about 2-3 hours, the camera has been stable the entire time and has not frozen up or had other issues. Using a V60 microSD card, I have had NO issues with video recording smoothness or color. I'm totally impressed with the solid build of the camera, but do wish the battery compartment was easier to open. I understand it's tight in order to keep water out. Perhaps GoPro can work out a better mechanism for opening/closing that door that gives the same waterproof security. Ultimately, the performance of the camera is what matters along with the final video product. For me, it works great and did not overheat or give me any real issues. Nice work GoPro.

Very easy to use, fast switch on and fast capture. Video and image quality is very good. Can shoot 5.3K at 60FPS, 4K at 120FPS best in its class. HyperSmooth 4.0 in-camera stabilization is excellently good, running with this camera has no problem at all. Touch screen is very responsive. Making changes using the touch screen is so easy. The flip-out mounting feet is very convenient. Another convenient feature is voice control, you can start stop recording using your voice. Battery can drain itself even when the camera is off, so better remove the battery when not in use. It is also a very good idea to have a few spare batteries because each charge last about an hour to an hour and a half. The camera can get hot so make sure you have enough air flow.

Horrible, it’s good to see that GoPro still doesn’t care about their customers. Within five minutes at 2K the system starts to get warm and at 20 to 30 minutes at 2K the system gets so hot to the touch. -10 out of 10 do not recommend buying until they attempt to want to fix this issue

I previously had a GoPro hero 5 session and loved it but I decided that I was going to get a Hero 10 before the beach since my hero 5 was outdated. I bought it about a month ago and use it almost every day from Bike rides, JetSki rides, going to the pool and just recently used it to capture 4th of July fireworks in slow motion. It performs very well Especially in water on my hero 5 when I went into the water and then got out you could hear the water in the microphones and there where still water droplets on the lens, but it is the opposite with the hero 10 with the new hydrophobic lens water never sticks to the lens and as soon as I get out of the water it clears from the microphone. The standard blue battery is just alright so I picked up the enduro battery and it was decently better and now I primary use the enduro for most things and I will use the blue battery as a backup if I am going to be doing extra shooting that day. Having both screens is very helpful because you can use the front screen to see yourself and use the back screen to see your subject. This camera can shoot up to 2.7k 240, 4k 120, 5.3k 60 which gives you plenty of headroom while filming. I normally use 4k 30 for chill bike rides 4k 60 for running around and playing at the pool and I will do 4k 120 when doing tricks on my bike. The low light is not very good but at the 4th of July I was filming the fireworks, If you have a bright subject like fireworks or a campfire it is surprisingly pretty good, I did 2.7k 240 while recording fireworks and going back and using the slow motion I was more than impressed! The durability is also very good, I had the Hero 10 right next to the fireworks and the ashes kept hitting the camera and it remained perfectly fine, I have dropped it a few times with forgetting it is on my helmet and the rubber and the edge of the lens and a very minor damage but overall very impressed with durability. The microphone quality is better than I thought obviously it is not good as a professional mic but perfect for any family that just wants to record events. I use the GoPro quick app just for short videos and I use my professional editing app for long videos, I think the GoPro quick app is perfect for anyone and is perfect for a family with no editing experience to get the hang of. I could not believe how good the hyper smooth was I can give this camera to a kid and the video is very sharp and stable. When I bought this camera 05/30/24 the hero 12 was the newest camera but I saved about $200 buying this camera 2 generations old, for most users I recommend buying at least 1-2 generations old because GoPro and other 3rd party retailers often have these hundreds of dollars of and the hero 11 to 12 is very minor updates so getting an older camera is way better value. I recommend everyone to get at least 1 extra battery and the floating handle because it gives you a piece of mind having the extra battery and It will float at a lake or a pool with the floaty grip.

    The best action cam yet!

GoPro is a go-to brand if you need an action cam, being a 10th generation of their Hero line - this is the best one to get at the moment! If you have prior GoPro experience and especially GoPro 9 - this update brings a better processor (named GP2) that allows better (double) frame rates (120Hz at 4k and 240Hz at 2.7k), ability to download material from the camera using USB-C cable and much better stabilization. User intercase if way more responsive as well now! Most of your GoPro 9 compatible accessories will work with 10 as well, with one caveat (which is supposed to be resolved some time in November 2021) - Max Lens Mod - at the moment of writing of this review (September 2021) - it's not YET compatible with 10. Mounting adapter is absolutely the same as on any GoPro so any existing mounting accessory works flawless. If you just getting into action cam world - take a good look at available "bundles", this exact kit is just a bare minimum (camera, 1 battery, 1 curved sticky mount, storage case), however there are kits that include mounts (GoPro shorty for example) which would work better for the beginners. Make sure to familiarize yourself with all camera functions such as pre-programmed modes, hindsight, timer, horizont auto leveling, image stabilization, time lapse and time warp, and many many others. GoPro is super versatile and knowing what it can do does make learning curve easier! Camera is waterproof to 33ft or 10 meters (as shipped, some accessory doors may reduce waterproofing), front lens cover is easy to replace (just twist it to remove) if case it gets damaged (it also has hydrophobic coating now so don't lick it!). It's just 2 buttons and a touch screen to control everything, but it does take a while to go thru all the menus! Accessories to get if you are just starting: GoPro Shorty - super versatile tripod/handle, GoPro Media Mod (it adds a better microphone and additional mic input), extra battery and dual battery charger (especially if you plan on filming in 4k 120Hz!). One battery lasts for about 1.5 hours of filming.

    GoPro 10 vs 11

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

GoPro 11 has a slightly larger 1/1.9-inch sensor. GoPro 10 has a 1/2.3 sensor GoPro 11 allows a 8:7 aspect ratio, so if you want to crop later for different social media platforms, then that is an added benefit. GoPro 11 also offers 10-bit video for those who do color grading. For those who own a 10, it probably isn't worth upgrading. If the 11 is on sale for just $50 more, it's better to go with that. If you're not going to be doing much edits and on a budget, the 10 is perfectly fine. GoPro 10/11 has an amazing stabilizer. The lens can easily twist off to attach different filters. The negative about GoPros are the battery life is terrible; it's less an hour. If you're going to capture memories on a trip, you DEFINITELY need backup batteries/charger.

pro - the heaviest and the biggest gopro so far - at the main screen you’ll have 4 customizable short cut that you can select from for easy access right in front of you - swiping right in the screen will take you to different mode to choose from time lapse, video and picture mode it’s fast and responsive - everything from clicking response time to how fast the screen react is an excellent experience - double the resolution performance compare to Gopro 9 - I believe all this is because of latest G2 processor, which it’s very smooth, as well even viewing from the front of the camera, it’s a night and day difference compared to the previous go pro! it’s very noticeable. - hero 10 also have new color mode “Natural” - horizon level can go up to 45 degrees compared to the previous 27 degrees before it will shift, such a useful feature that can help a lot during certain situations cons - I don’t understand why when recording video using your phone has zero preview mode, I still remember on my older gopro hero 4 that let you see the preview screen, very disappointing considering the real time feed back was spot on cannot really think of anything negative about gopro i’m not a videographer, i’m just a regular user who shoot videos and take pictures, the ease of access and control that gopro hero 10 does is 10/10 on my book.

I have used GoPro camera since the GoPro 4 and have had every version of the GoPro HERO Black since that time. This is the action camera that sets the standard and delivers no matter where you are or what you're doing. I have used GoPro while mountain biking, flying Cessna 172's and swimming in Hawaii. The camera is so versatile it's insane. When the GoPro HERO10 Black was announced my first thought was "... wait, what about all the accessories I have for the HERO 9 Black?" Thankfully, the GoPro HERO Black is compatible with the earlier edition and I'm able to reuse the batteries, enclosures and the Max Lens Mod, for example. The GoPro Hero Black delivers with a new GP2 processor which allows 5.3K at 60 frames per second and 4K at an astounding 120 frames per second. All this with Hyper Smooth Image Stabilization and it's even waterproof to 33 feet! If you're looking for simply the best action camera on the planet the only question you'll need to ask your self is, is one enough?

Pros: compact, easy on the go shooting, great for traveling, ease of use, great quality videos/photos. Cons: various expensive add-on equipment. There are no direct slots on the camera to input external mic, light, etc. Extra batteries needed as battery drains within 1.5hrs of shooting. Does not recognize third-party equipment (batteries, mic adapter). Add On Items: these are suggestions to help with ease of use and upgrading/producing quality content. The GoPro will work without them (excluding memory card). - Media Mount (to add external equipment): $80 - Mini SD Card (must use v30 type & min 128GB): $33 - Extra Battery & Battery Charger Port: $50 - GoPro Lens Protector:$20

Simple and waterproof. This was a great tool to give the kids and let them have fun. Interface is simple but not necessarily easy to set or navigate. The intuitive use of the quick on & record feature is nice but Lead the family to believe that the battery wasn’t charging. The quality of the image and mic are decent. Haven’t tested in low light yet. It’s a good extra camera and great quality for a young person who doesn’t want to drain their phone battery with video.

Great image and video quality. Been using a digital mirror less camera for several years now, due to quality and small size for travelling and taking pics. Recently took both mirror less and GoPro on two different trips (int'l) , cruise, train to new orleans, etc and I think I only used my mirroress dslr twice. My go to has been the go pro and I don't have to worry about rain and getting it wet. Great videos for snorkeling too!!!
