Bought the GoPro 11 black aug 21,2024 used it daily when I ride my motorcycle cycle when camera gets hot footage becomes blurry, distorted, and lags. I have three fully charged batteries that I use with it and after two months, it says low battery and shut off within 30 seconds. I’ve tried this with all three batteries fully charged GoPro replace the camera if it is deemed malfunctioning, but if I am dissatisfied with the next camera. I am out of luck getting my money back, from what the technicians are telling me so I would start thinking long and hard about a different type of camera brand

I’m an avid GoPro user, for things like family trips and vacations etc. But I’m coming from a Hero 5 Black, so I was super excited to be making such a big leap in recording quality and features. In the box you get the camera, battery, USB-C charging cable, an adhesive mounting plate and mounting screw. The package doubles as a nice carrying case if you don’t already have one. You will need to supply your own high speed microSD card, there is not one supplied, as well as your own charging power supply. You also need to download the GoPro Quick mobile app. Setting up the camera with the Quick app is a breeze, so much easier with the 11 than with my prior camera. Once it found the camera it instantly connected and performed a software update. After the update I was ready to go. The great thing about the app is you can see all your settings and live preview without having to mess onboard with the camera itself. You can even start and stop recording from the app, which makes catching the perfect shot so much easier at times. Picture Quality It’s amazing. The sensor in the new camera captures such fine detail even in lower light settings. Obviously where the camera shines is recording 5.3K at up to 60fps. I love using the Cinematic mode, to give my videos a really polished, professional look. You have a whole host of video mode setting to choose from: Standard, Full Frame, Activity, Cinematic and Ultra Slo Mo. You also get a new Resolution to choose from as well, 8:7 aspect. This is amazing for setting your camera to capture EVERYTHING in frame, and then allowing you to edit to the perfect aspect ratio that you need if sharing videos, and you can base the aspect on the medium you’re sharing on. If you want normal HD viewing aspect you can crop to 16:9. You can crop to 4:3 for Instagram but now you can also get full resolution aspect in 9:16 vertical for other social media apps. The 8:7 recording aspect captures as wide and tall as the sensor allows and lets you determine the final aspect to meet your needs. I love this! You can also set 10bit color and high bit rate video, so your output is the best of the best. Using the Quick app allows you to transfer footage directly from the camera to the app, or download from the cloud if you subscriber to their cloud service. The app allows you to edit and export a final video worthy of sharing, no additional software needed. Still images are also awesome, full of detail and highlights thanks to HDR processing. While it won’t replace a typical DSLR, it could replace your phone for sure, for those great landscape shots or action shots of sports, etc. The camera also has the new Hypersmooth 5.0 image stabilization feature, and it’s hands down the best image stabilization I’ve ever seen. I cannot make the video from this camera jittery or bumpy to the point where it takes you out of the experience, at all. Audio I was actually surprised how good the audio was right in the camera. When not exposed to harsh wind noise, the internal mic audio was very crisp and clear, with little to no background noise, from quite a few feet away from camera. You can easily record without an outboard microphone for a lot of situations with this. In harsh wind noise, you do notice it and can be helped by using an external microphone, or even just placing something in front of the internal mic, like cotton or soft material, if you know your shooting conditions will have some harsh wind. But overall audio is great. Usability and Battery If you’re coming from a prior GoPro all the menus and settings here are going to be old news. If you are a new user, the settings menus can be a bit cumbersome at times, but never overwhelming or confusing. They make it quite simple to swipe in a direction on the screen and get you to those subsets of menu items. And using the Quick app is even easier because you have everything right in front of you on your mobile device screen. They even allow you to customize the settings menu from Easy to Pro. Easy basically gives you all the preset settings that GoPro has configured to get you the best result, and let you get out and shooting right away. If you want more control on your settings, you can enter Pro mode, and basically have configuration control over everything. So best of both worlds here for any level of shooter. Having the dual screens is something I didn’t have on my Hero 5, and something that I take full advantage of. Only the back screen is touch sensitive, which is ok, would be great if the front screen was touch sensitive as well, but the front screen gives you a few options for customization. You can see the actual image view, to help frame your shot. You can also punch in to full frame or just have it show you the status and settings, which helps battery life. I also love the horizon lock feature. This lets you sway the camera off horizon axis during shooting, but your recorded video doesn’t capture it, and remains completely level with the horizon. This is great for boat shooting or instances when you can easily get knocked off the horizon level. The webcam feature is also great for working from home, and using the Hero 11 as a high resolution camera for meetings. You just need to download the GoPro webcam app to your PC or Mac and give it a try, it’s great. Where the camera takes a hit for me are two areas: the battery and overheating. GoPro batteries and notorious for depleting quickly, and the Hero 11’s new Enduro battery is no different. I was hoping the new version would last longer than my previous experiences with GoPro batteries, but it really doesn’t. If you are recording full resolution video, I’m getting 20-30 mins of battery life right now. The battery does charge up fairly quickly, but it depletes just as fast. It’s a must to have back up batteries for any real video shooting. The overheating is another area I was hoping the Hero 11 would fair better. Not so lucky. Now if you record quick videos of say 5-10 at a time, you should be fine. For me, in my usage of the Hero 11, mine is shutting down from overheating after 10-15 min outside and about 20 mins inside. It gets hot. Really hot. Such a bummer. Not sure if it’s just my unit or something they can fix with a firmware update, I’ll be paying attention. The camera is so much fun to use, that getting the overheating screen and watching your camera shut down just stinks. And when that happens, you have to wait quite a while for the camera to cool down enough to resume shooting again, or you’ll be right back in the same spot. Keep your videos to 5-10 mins I guess. Overall, the camera records amazing video, the best video from any action camera that I’ve used. You just have to get that video recorded before either the battery dies, or the camera overheats.

I wouldn’t buy this, I thought it would be great for an upcoming vacation to St John island to go snorkeling. I didn’t even last 2 days, NOT WATERPROOF! they advertise this (is a go pro) but it waterlogged through the front screen in like a foot of water so honestly I wouldn’t trust it. Not a good use of anyone’s money, got a few pics and videos but the app and subscription are scams because the upload times to the cloud are like 8 hours for 20 seconds of video (this is what they call unlimited)

Best Action Cam Keeps Getting Better

This is now my 3rd GoPro, my previous ones being the 2018 Hero and last year's Hero10 Black. So far, each iteration has been getting better and better, and going from the 10 to the Hero11 is a noticeable enough improvement that it's worth the upgrade. That's not to say its perfect as it does still have flaws, but you're not going to get a better action cam than this GoPro. The main reason I need and use GoPros is for my youtube channel, which is mainly an automotive channel with a lot of focus on drag racing. This GoPro is an absolute necessity for me and is mostly used for a POV view, whether it be filming a how-to or mounted on my helmet while drag racing. As far as video quality goes, this GoPro 11 is about as good as it gets, especially for the content creation I do. The images look spectacular and the video quality is more than good enough that it allows me to do various edits like slowing the video down, speeding it up, or freeze framing and still look great. The different aspect ratios is a huge benefit for me too since it allows me to capture everything I need to, something that isn't always easy when you can't really see what the camera is pointing at being that it's strapped on my forehead. The biggest and best feature to this GoPro however has to be the hyper smooth image stabilization. This alone is integral to my content. With a POV view while racing, things can get shaky between the car's violent launch combined with me looking around at my car, the track, and my opponent. This GoPro somehow makes it all look incredibly smooth. Smoother than my dash cam, and smoother than my 5G Ultra smartphone I keep mounted on the windshield that I also record with. This stabilization and high quality comes at a price though, and I'm not talking about money. To record with such high quality while keeping things looking smooth uses up a lot of computing resources, which means this camera, like the 10 before it, can get HOT. Add in the fact that a lot of races happen during a hot day in the summer inside of a hot car that can't run a/c while on the track (for safety reasons), makes it prone to overheating. With drag racing and the way I use my helmet cam, most clips are about 10 minutes or less. To help with cooling, I try not to overextend the time it's recording and make sure to keep it off and in a cooler spot between races. Even with all that, I did have one clip where it got up to about 13 minutes long and this GoPro 11 shut itself off due to overheating. While I was disappointed that it happened, I'm happy that it's at least improved quite a bit over the 10. With the 10 it happened a lot more often to the point I couldn't trust it to stay on, which is one of the reasons I keep my phone recording on the windshield, so that I have a back-up. So far this 11 seems to handle heat noticeably better, but it's still something you have to be aware of and take whatever steps needed to prevent. Aside from that, the camera has a lot of nice features and adjustability to suit whatever needs and use you have. Physically, it looks identical to the 10 as well, and works with the same accessories. The battery is a different color, but still works in the same external charger if you have it, and speaking of the battery, it easily lasted throughout a full day of racing with plenty of power to spare at the end of the day. It also fits in the same media mod, which I already had for my 10, so I got to use it with this 11 and everything works perfectly. I normally only use the media mod however when filming "less shaky" videos, like my how-to's. When it sees more action, like while racing, I prefer to remove the media mod as I feel it doesn't allow for as much cooling and could cause the camera to overheat faster. I also want to bring up the GoPro Quik mobile app. You definitely need it as that's how the camera firmware gets updated, which will need to happen immediately after you turn the camera on for the first time. The app works very well in conjunction with the camera though and offers more features. What I mainly use it for though is to get a preview of what the camera sees for those times I have to set it up away from where I am. That makes it easier to line up the shot and then start recording. The only negative I have is that once you start recording, you lose the camera's live view. I don't know if it's a hardware limitation or the reason why, but that would be a huge improvement if they could figure out a way to display the camera's live view while recording. The couple negatives I found though between the GoPro 11 and its companion app are easily outweighed by all the positives. It is still in my view the best action camera you can buy and in many ways outdoes most other cameras that I've used for content creation. So much so that this GoPro 11 is my main go-to camera, even when it's not seeing a lot of "action" shots. On top of that, the 11 is a nice upgrade over even its most recent predecessor and definitely worth getting.

The GoPro HERO11 Black packs a lot of punch in an impressively compact body. The amount of features for capturing both pictures and videos is impressive and fun, and the resultant quality is excellent as well. The app makes an excellent pairing for both use of the camera and editing of captured content. The amount of features and capabilities are abundant between the two. The size and durability of the camera makes it easy to take anywhere for any kind of environment. In the short time I've used this camera, I was the most impressed with the video quality but disappointed with the battery life. As for the camera use, this will not be replacing my mirrorless dslr, but I would be inclined to take this along with me more times than not instead of my mirrorless dslr due to the compact size of the GoPro and the quality of images it produces. As for videos, I would definitely consider this as my primary device for that. The GoPro does an excellent job with stabilization, and the app software allows for additional stabilization correction to videos as well. In addition, the ability to change from wide, cinematic shots to extra-tall, social media compatible shots is a very nice feature which allows for more versatile use of the GoPro. Overall, this is a very cool camera for those who love to travel, seek adventures, and/or video blog. Pros -High quality video with excellent sound -Compact size -An abundance of camera and video features -Pairing with phone through app to view and edit, and to control the GoPro -Editing capabilities within the app -Ease of switching back and forth between from wide lens to linear lens -Front facing LCD screen Cons -Short battery life -Heats up when charging and with heavy, continuous use -Instructions/ How-to-use lacking (Would have liked to have more walk through guidance with features and general use. Instruction manual isn't very detailed either) -Small touch screen sometimes hard to navigate due to touch inaccuracy because of its size -On screen buttons differ in app from GoPro making some things easier or quicker to adjust via the app and others easier to adjust on the GoPro
