Way more advanced than my GoPro 8. The HDR mode is super nice when the sunshine is bright. Also the light trail mode enhanced by the max mod 2.0 gives you stunning photos with ease.

Let me start by saying I am not a Go Pro expert, this is my first purchase of a Go Pro. Also, I am not a super athlete or super active adventurer. I wanted to take the plunge on this because I am going to be a new Grandfather soon! Purchasing this was not about trying to upgrade to any new features either and while many may say, you could have purchased an older version cheaper, I wanted to start with the newest version with all the newest features so that this would last me for several years. I really like the blue speckled textured camera coating. We took this to the beach when we first got it and it didn’t disappoint! Its water proof to 33ft but we were just in the waves and the water wasn’t clear so no underwater pics yet but its nice to use at the surf and not be afraid of getting wet. The perspective that the GoPro pics give is so “in the moment”. I finally got to experience the feeling that many GoPro users already know and that is how much you feel a part of the experience that your picture or video is capturing. Setup was simple but only because a bug had already been discovered in the pairing/setup of the new firmware but GoPro provided an update that you just placed on the micro SD card and the upgrade started immediately. First of all I noticed the HDR is a new feature. While I am not an expert on it, you can tell a clear difference in how color and brightness are managed even in lower light. Lower light is ok but not great but not knowing how previous versions were, this must be better. I used the Highest quality video mode for all my current stuff but in playing with it, it says standard quality is still 4k and actually better for those that are viewing on smartphones that sometimes struggle to playback some of the higher resolution videos. Settings are easily changed on the camera. I am still working my way through all these features since this is my first GoPro but if you are a camera expert, this thing gives you the capability to change things like ISO, white balance and other key aspects. As a new GoPro user, you can quickly find new features/usability/setup videos that will help you, that is what I have been doing. There are so many professional and tweakable settings you really do need to review some of the experts that have posted videos. This is truly the quickest way to get the max value out of something without struggling on your own. I really love the small size and portability of this camera. I really love the accessory pack I purchased (not included with camera) as it gives me a high quality selfie stick, tripod and other key pieces. I even plan to use a strap where I wear it on my chest while I bike or do other activities. The quality of the video and pics is amazing. I highly recommend this and will try to update this review as I uncover additional features and functions. I am giving this 5 stars because from a never user view, the quality, the features and the ultimate possibilities of the things I have done and am yet to do are totally worth it.

PROS: - lots of new features, especially for pro level camera users - longer battery life (actually seems true!) - same batteries as before so you can use old batteries - Bluetooth connection - app control and live view DURING recording - voice control (also through bluetooth connection) - tripod mount added - LOG format added CONS: - No GPS anymore (Doesn’t effect a lot of users) - Buggy out of the box/couldn’t download FW update - still has overheating issues, even though it is better now - no carrying case included - no manual included Gopro definitely packed a lot more software and features into the 12th version, even though it does seem to look like a gopro 11 with blue speckles on it. If I had an 11, I don’t know if I would upgrade, but the added features would really make me consider it. PRO SETTINGS: As someone who is both active outdoors but also does freelance video production projects, having a gopro is really handy. I can use it snowboarding, wakeboarding, hiking, etc but it’s also powerful enough to work as a B cam for shoots, especially for timelapses. I love that they added a LOG format to make matching shots easier as well as a timecode sync option - all making post production work so much faster! Toss in a tripod mount screw on the bottom now and it’ll actually be fun to have a gopro on set again. I also enjoy the bluetooth headphone connection option. The recording quality is pretty trashy, even with high end headphones, but the ability to voice control the camera with a bluetooth earbud really opens up options. As well as a fine way to record audio in a pinch when the camera isn’t close enough to use the onboard mic. That said, using a good lav mic would be better in most situations obviously. But for those just wanting to get sound recorded, it’s a great option. You can also monitor the live video from a connected device using the app, something that was not always available on older models. This is great to be able to check your framing without going back to the camera or to see it on a larger screen like a tablet. Even if you’re just using a helmet mount and want to see what the frame looks like, you can simply pull out your phone and control the camera completely from there. I am not a fan of the new normal of “just download the app” mentality with products, but at least this app is decent, works well, and isn’t full of spam or permission requests. I’ll actually use this app. EXPERIENCE: I haven’t had a chance to go out and hike with this camera yet as the weather turned gloomy and stormy, but I have been simulating “action video” best I can to test the camera and found that overall it really does shoot good footage. The LOG format is nice for pros if you’re going to spend time coloring, but the standard and HDR options are actually really good for most uses. The colors are bright and pop in good lighting and the HDR helps even out the exposure nicely. I found the stabilization works pretty good but I haven’t been able to duplicate results shown by GoPro in their advertising but I think that’s more the low lighting testing I’m in. When the sun comes out I’m curious to test it out more. Either way, the new stabilization changes seem to be pretty great. Using the interface is a lot easier than past experiences I’ve had with gopro. Besides being able to control all settings with the app, using the touchscreen on the camera is also a breeze. Even with a small screen, the icons are placed in the right spots that make sense and it’s very easy to know what is selected or not selected. My only issue was if my fingers were wet, or sometimes trying to scroll would instead select a setting. I was able to test the star trails setting slightly, although it was partly cloudy. I only was able to shoot for about 15 minutes before the weather threatened to turn again, but from what I saw, I really enjoy this new feature. It’s so easy to just set it and let the camera do the work. Shooting trails on my full body camera takes a lot more work and settings. This is just one click and go. I have a feeling I’ll use that feature a lot, especially when camping. They also included light painting/trails and car light tracing, which I assume uses the same basic settings and processing but it’s still nice to have for more basic users. Also worth noting, when you’re done shooting, the camera will give you one stacked photo and also make one timelapse video, which I thought was pretty cool. You can check the photos with this review to see more. OVERALL: My overall thoughts on the GoPro 12 Black are great. There’s some cons like anything, but the experience and feature options really outweigh the cons in my experience. I gave it 4 stars because out of the box, it would not update the firmware correctly and the only way to get it solved was contacting GoPro and getting the FW update on my SD card and having the camera update from there. This also caused me to experience a bug where the camera completely bricked and would not turn on or respond to any controls until I took the battery out for a few seconds. I think the SD card with the update file on it caused a read error or something, but either way, it bugged out straight from the box and that’s not great. I should add, it has been working perfectly ever since, so that’s not a reason to avoid a purchase. I also knocked that 5th star for not including a carrying bag with the camera. I believe the older models at this base level still included a carrying hard shell for your accessories and camera. This is great when you can toss the small shell into a camera bag and not have to cram the gear into little pockets here and there. Or if you’re just tossing it in your backpack, you can keep it secure and together. I just wish that was still included and not an added cost. Lastly, and maybe I’m old school here, but there is no manual for the camera in the box. I understand the want to save paper etc, and that the manual can be found on their website, but I really enjoy having it in the carrying case with me. (But of course, bag not included.) Like I said though, those reasons are still not enough to keep me from being happy with this product and all the pros are way better and worth it. Once I got the update done, that wasn’t an issue anymore and I can buy a case. Easy fixes that make this camera perfect! Can’t wait to get out there and explore and capture my adventures!

A lot can be said about the latest iteration of the GoPro Hero series, which in its current form is the Hero 12. GoPro is synonymous with action cameras, and, commonly, you see them used in extreme sports; it is ubiquitous to see a GoPro mounted in some ungodly inhospitable places like aircraft wings or mounted on the fender of a car or the end of scuba diving pole. In the last few years, GoPro’s (Series 9 and later) have been a hit among bloggers and vloggers who use them for documenting their lives and putting them out for the world to see. The GoPro physical format has not changed much over the years. Series 9 and later have a front-facing LCD, making your selfie video recording easier; Series 8 and prior had an information screen in this place and were waterproof, and Series 2-4 were physically smaller and required additional cases to be waterproof. You cannot mistake a GoPro; the design is robust and easily identifiable. The latest iteration of the GoPro Hero 12 Black brings about some much-needed quality-of-life updates and improvements along with speckled hints of blue. I have been using GoPros for many years, starting with the venerable GoPro Hero 4, then the Hero 9, and now the Hero 12. In each iteration, GoPro has made significant updates to the capabilities of the camera hardware and recording abilities. I think they (GoPro) have finally hit a limit regarding innovation and what could be brought to the camera. While the latest version does bring some nifty new features, there are a few downgrades too. The biggest change to the Hero 12 from the previous models is that it no longer has a built-in GPS. Trading the GPS was a good idea; I rarely used it, and the GPS drained batteries quicker, so getting rid of it was a no-brainer. The GoPro Quik software never did any justice in leveraging all its capabilities without additional software. So, if you need a GPS, get a Hero 11 or earlier. One of the other new features, which is new to Hero 12, is the availability of an external bluetooth headset as a microphone, something like an airpod. I think this is brilliant, as in the past, you would need the Hero media mod to use a better microphone. The Hero 12 has decent onboard microphones, but if you want to use a dedicated wireless microphone system, the Hero 12 allows you to do that. Among the new features on the Hero 12, it now has a new snazzy menu system that wasn't there before. The new menu system (it's different from Hero 9, my last version) is very customizable; it does have some interesting quirks, like when you change recording resolution, certain resolutions, and frame rates disappear, or settings reset. For example, 5.3K can only shoot at 30fps, while the previous GoPro 11 (a friend's unit) can do 60fps. The hardware has not changed, so it's a software limitation. GoPro has added capabilities via firmware updates in the last few weeks, so one can hope that this is just a bug and not a feature. One of the new features is the ability to do 10-bit recording and LOG raw video recording. These features are great for professionals who use a GoPro video for color grading. A new recording format allows you to in-camera record 9:16 portrait videos apart from the usual, including 8:7 sensor formats. The new Hero 12 also features an HDR video mode that was not available in the previous version, which allows for better color rendition in difficult situations. Low light is still a huge challenge, but I feel this has gotten better from previous models. The Hero12 also leverages the software and the online Quik subscription upload features. The neat features, which currently have a promo for new users, leverage the ability to make automatic AI-driven video highlights from your uploaded footage. This is a rather useful and neat feature to have when you shoot many videos during your travels. Previous GoPro’s did use the Quik app, but this is the first time I have seen these new features. It also allows you to do direct live streams from your GoPro straight to any video streaming platform (YouTube, facebook, etc.), making going live much easier. I consider myself an average user of GoPro. I bought my first GoPro to use on an exotic vacation. These days, I use it more to document events I go to. The small camera is discrete and allows for unobtrusive recording in public. The GoPro 12 continues that legacy by providing extra features that are useful, specifically the external bluetooth microphone. A GoPro is a useful must-have for users looking for a camera to document some of their daily lives or take a waterproof camera on vacation. There is so much more I could say about this camera. It has so many new features that I could keep going on and on. The new features make this the best GoPro to date. If you are looking for a small discrete action camera to take on the bike trail, the snorkeling trip, the beach, or up the mountains, this is a very portable, easy camera to lug around. There is so much I can say about the GoPro, but I prefer you discover the features that are unique to your needs. If you have an older GoPro, within the last two generations, there may not be enough “new” to justify getting a new GoPro, but maybe the better battery life, HDR Video, and the external Bluetooth Microphone ability may sway you.

I've been using the GoPro HERO12 Black for a few months, and it's been an incredible experience. As a tech enthusiast and outdoor adventurer, this camera has truly exceeded my expectations. First off, the video quality is simply outstanding...the 5.3K resolution captures every detail with stunning clarity, whether I'm shooting in bright sunlight or low light conditions, the colors are vibrant and true to life, making my footage look professional. The HyperSmooth 6.0 stabilization is great, it keeps my videos steady and smooth, even when I'm moving around a lot. I've used it while hiking, biking, and even skiing, and the footage came out looking like it was shot with a gimbal. Battery life has also been good. I can record for up to 70 minutes at 5.3K 60fps, which is more than enough for most of my adventures. I don't have to worry about running out of power midway through my activities, the camera is also incredibly durable and waterproof up to 33 feet, which is perfect for water sports and underwater photography. I've taken it snorkeling, and it performed flawlessly. One thing I appreciate is the ease of use, the interface is intuitive, and setting up shots is straightforward, even for someone who isn't very tech savvy. However, I did notice that the camera can get a bit warm during extended recording sessions, but it hasn't caused any issues so far. Also, while the low light performance is good, it's not perfect, and there might be some noise in very dark environments. The price is a bit steep, but for the features and quality, it's worth it. Overall is a fantastic action camera that offers excellent value for its price. It's perfect for anyone who loves capturing their adventures in high quality. Pros: Outstanding video and photo quality. Excellent stabilization. Long battery life. Durable and waterproof. Easy to use. Cons: Can get warm during long recordings. Low light performance could be better. Price is high but justified because is mma top-tier action camera.

I had never used a GoPro, so I can’t compare this model to its predecessors. I have used the GoPro HERO12 for several weeks and have some very strong opinions about it. I am sure its reputation as great as an action Cam is fully justified, but I find it almost impossible not to like it for general use in shooting both videos and photographs and easily taking it with you wherever you need to go. For families shooting home videos, I cannot imagine a better memory preserving machine. “Wait, it doesn’t have a zoom lens!” Guess what? You don’t need a zoom lens, and if you had one, you would overuse it and ultimately detract from your videos. Please trust me on this. Grab one of these tiny devices and just start shooting. Zoom with your feet and plan your shots to edit as you go. You will learn to do it in no time and produce engaging videos without putting your family and friends to sleep when you play it back for them. You can produce all the action you want by knitting together editable still and video recordings to tell your story. And you don’t need any special software to pull it off. You can use the supplied GoPro Quick software to make edits or set the camera to automatically upload your captures and have the software automatically edit your mosaic into a video complete with transitions and music. If you do nothing to change the default settings, the automatically produced video also has the Go Pro logos added at the beginning and end of the production. Those are easy to trim out using Quick if you find them obtrusive. If you want more editing flexibility, iMovie for Mac and Clipchamp for Windows come free with the respective operating systems and more sophisticated alternatives are available for those who need them. By all means the GoPro subscription at $49.00/ year is more than worth it to have all of your uploaded videos from the beginning of time always available for distribution or further editing. And discounts on other products, assessories and services also come with the subscription. I love the way this tiny camera feels in my hand. I have never liked to shoot videos with my smartphone. It felt great to carry around and use handheld. I do recommend the Shorty assessory (not supplied with the camera) which is both a mini tripod and short extension pole which gives even more shooting flexibility. The camera is waterproof and has a grippy feel to it. It has a conventional screw in mount on the bottom for tripods as well as the proprietary mount for GoPro accessories. Some users might be able to literarily charge this device up and shoot all your videos on a trip and never even think about recharging until you return home. I loaded the device with a 256GB micro-SD card and would be able to shoot hour upon hour of videos and stills before filling it. I believe the maximum time for a video shoot is 70 minutes at the 5K setting with stabilization on. Most home users will dial that performance down (with no serious degradation in image quality) to make the most room on their SD card and preserve battery life. Image quality is excellent. To my eyes, it matches or exceeds my iPhone and other smartphones I have used with the exception of “shooting in the dark” scenarios. Even in relatively low light situations, it usually does well. I am very pleased with what I see. The GoPro system is training me to re-think what can be done with small, rugged cameras with built in stabilization like this one. And everything you need for fun can fit in your pocket or a small pouch. Highly recommended.

Recording Specs 64 Min, 22.4GB @4K60 & 62 Min, 20.5GB @4K60, Front Screen OFF, HyperSmooth On, HDR On, Zoom 1x, Hindsight Off, Auto White Balance and any other settings that had the auto. 77 Min, 16.1GB @1080/60, Front Screen OFF, HyperSmooth Off, HDR Off, Zoom 1x, Hindsight Off, Auto White Balance and any other settings that had the auto. Still had 25% left and it was at 91% when started shooting. MicroSD Card SanDisk Extreme Pro 256GB…based on 2 runs looks like it will hold about 10 hours of footage at 4K settings. The two runs I was able to make at 4K I got right at an hour of battery life to dead. So buy as many batteries as you can afford/carry and have them charged and ready if you plan use GoPro all day. I wish the device was more efficient during setup. The more you know where settings are located, the faster you will get at, but about 5 minutes cuts a couple percentages off. It is only a 1700mah, so not expecting crazy life with what you are asking of the camera, but wish it was a little longer. Transfer time to phone via USB-C cable 22min Transfer time to laptop via microSD 4min Transfer time to phone via Bluetooth…to long stopped the transfer. I’m sure it would have felt quicker if there were more files of smaller size, so just seeing 3 or 4 files and it sitting on number 2 for a long time, which was 30 min and 11GB, it can take a minute. Just make sure the GoPro is plugged and charging, thankfully you can use and charger at the same time. The GoPro Quik app is cool, there are free things available to use, but the coolest features are behind a paywall, not cool. As a new subscriber/owner, at the time of writing they were giving 50% a year subscription (reg $50/year) of GoPro or just $5/mo (no discount) or $10/year for the Quik version. The Pro subscription also comes with up to 50% at GoPro.com and every year $100USD towards a new GoPro; so if your looking to add another one, it may not be a bad idea. I did sign-up, as the unlimited storage is quite a nice option. What you do lose though, or at least won’t be of use to you in the app, is GPS data because the HERO12 doesn’t have GPS as an option any more, so all the features in the video editing won’t be available. I have been playing around with the new Microsoft ClipChamp and I have been pretty impressed for a free app. I’ve used Adobe Photoshop Premiere as a video editor for a long time and its definitely better than that is some aspects. If you are experienced with video editing, most things are pretty straight forward, however, the trim tool is reverse, selecting keeps the footage, not cut it out. If you want to create a quick auto video where it will analyze the footage and best guess highlights. You can also do this manually. I find it better to cut long sessions first to get rid of boring bits. It can be done on a phone, but if you have a tablet doing the editing is even nicer with the extra screen real estate. There is a Windows App, but it is called GoPro Player +Reel Steady that you find in the Windows Store. The Reel Steady feature is an extra fee, but is made redundant by the GoPro Hypersmooth 6.0. I didn’t mess with the app too long. It was just updated for Hero 12, so they are paying attention to it. Wind Noise Is not too bad. I left the default setting at Medium, but I will test with High. Using on my motorcycle, there is quite a bit of wind. HyperSmooth 6.0-This is a must! I was shocked at this as the camera is just vibrating like crazy when the bike isn’t moving, once you get going the bike vibes mellow out, but the footage was always smooth. On the first run I did 2 separate videos with exactly the same settings minus HS 6.0 being off/on and I couldn’t tell a difference. The second run HS was definitely ON. I am second guessing myself on the HS being off on part 2 of run 1 now though, as my third run I set to the 1080P setting listed above, with HS being OFF for sure, and it was terribly choppy, which is a shame because it was an excellent ride with great footage…the bear cubs didn’t show up. Actually using the HERO 12 is great. There is definitely some thought put into accessibility and ease of use. The power button can cycle through photo/video/time lapse modes so you don’t have to use the touchscreen and the shutter button will start the video recording and use the last setting; which can be changed in the Preferences menu. And Default Setting out-of-box for the touch screen menus is Easy Mode. I’m not sure why, there are really are not that many settings to get into, but I’m sure it exists for some use.

Another Great Camera in the GoPro Lineup

My first GoPro was the Hero 9. Going from that to the Hero 12 is a bit of an upgrade. The chassis has remained almost exactly the same and I’m glad. The small form factor of a GoPro makes it easy to stash and take on any adventure. I do really like the blue speckled appearance of the 12. I think that will help to hide scuffs and scratches as the camera ages. Other notable improvements/features include: - Improved image sensor for up to 5.3k60 video and 27MP photos. - Improved Hypersmooth 6.0. This was already a standout feature on previous GoPros. - Vertical framing for seamless video sharing to social media. - Inclusion of an Enduro (1720mAh) battery in the box for improved recording time. - Tripod mount between the GoPro accessory attachment legs. SO happy to finally see this on a GoPro. For those with other cameras who already own a tripod or monopod, it’s nice that an adapter is no longer needed if you want to attach your GoPro. The way this was integrated is so seamless…it probably could have been added years ago. - Ability to switch between easy and pro controls. Something that I think is a deterrent for many older folks or novices from using cameras other than the one on their phone is the fear of its complexity. Easy controls allow you to simply choose between basic, standard, and highest quality video modes. The camera explains each, but does the rest. Simply choose which mode you want, point, and shoot. While I am comfortable changing settings on my own, I find myself using easy controls for convenience. - Not a new feature, but I appreciate that GoPros are rugged and waterproof out of the box. Other action cameras that I have used require the use of a waterproof case and this is a hassle and a half. I love being outside in the summer and my new GoPro will be spending many days with me jet skiing on the lake. I’m also looking forward to taking it with me on vacation next week. If you want to capture photos and videos outdoors or in environments that make you nervous to pull your phone out, consider getting a GoPro. Be sure to do your research for the one that best fits your needs if you’re being budget conscious. If you’re going for the best of the best, the Hero 12 is an excellent choice!

Super fun action camera that’s easy to learn and easy to get awesome video footage from. This kit includes an enduro battery and a USB charging cable. You do need to get a fast micro SD card. I would recommend the largest capacity SD card you can budget for because the file sizes in 4k or larger is huge and can easily go beyond a gigabyte each depending on length of video. Editing the files can be done on your phone via their Quik app. The GoPro Hero 12 connects via Bluetooth and wifi for live previews and faster file transfer rates. What’s great with the Hero 12 is that you are still able to view your preview on your phone while its recording. Some of the new notable changes in the Hero 12 compared to the Hero 11 is the HDR video capture mode. HDR does a great job in pulling in shadow detail in high contrast environments. Do note that HDR in the Hero 12 limits you to either 16:9 or 8:7 aspect ratio. And also limits your frame rates to 24, 30 or 60. You can still do slomo but not as smooth as 240 fps. The new Hero 12 also comes with a ¼-20 tripod mount built right into the camera. Super convenient to mount onto a tripod without the need for an adapter. Besides the standard video modes, the timelapse modes are super fun and includes the same ones found on the Hero 11. Check out my attached photos for an awesome Star Trails time lapse. Love how easy this GoPro Hero 12 makes me look like a professional. I would highly recommend the GoPro Hero 12 for anyone getting into action cameras. Its super easy to use and not just limited to high adrenalin action sports. I can easily attach this to my kids’ scooters, kids helmet for a fun family POV of their activities. It’s a huge update to existing GoPro Hero 10 and older models. It’s a smaller improvement going from Hero 11 to the Hero 12. You do give up your GPS feature going from Hero 11 to Hero 12. I don’t think losing the GPS and gaining HDR is worth the upgrade from 11 to 12.

We purchased the GroPro at BestBuy with the help of an employee. We told him we were going on a trip and wanted to record our adventures. I assumed the employee educated us on what the camera required. Imagine spending $400 for a camera, then taking it with you on vacation to find out it does not come with a Memory Card?! I’m not mad at the employee as I should have read the entire packaging. However, GoPro should notify buyers on the front packaging “Memory Card Sold Separately”. Please see all 4 pictures I provided, I circled where GoPro placed the text.

I have had numerous go pro's , keep going back for repairs, they have battery drainage issues and connection issues when connecting to the phone issues. And not to mention heating up issues ,where go pro turns off due to heating. The enduro battery is not that great.

GoPro Hero 12 Black: I was excited to test out the new action camera from GoPro. I’m familiar with the DJI action camera, so I assumed the GoPro would be similar and just as easy to use. I opened the box and quickly charged up the camera so I can begin using. While the battery life claims to be longer than the previous version, I wish the camera came with more than just one. I knew I had to purchase my own micro sd card and any other accessories I might want. Once the camera was charged, I went to insert the micro sd card into the camera and broke the camera. To protect my fingernails from chipping, I inserted a paper clip underneath the drain microphone and popped off one side. The panel didn’t move enough, so I popped off the other side not realizing that this section of the camera is not removable. GoPro really needs to redesign this feature. I’m familiar with my other action cam having the battery on one side and the sd card inserted into another. After further reviewing the camera and some YouTube videos, I realized the sd card goes into the same area as the battery. I know many products no longer provide a user manual, but I think GoPro should publish a better diagram of the camera layout and some basics to get you started. My new $400 action camera is now broken before I was ever even able to use it. From what I have found on YouTube, the broken cover to the drain microphone will not interfere with the quality of footage or the fact of water-proof. I’m still upset that the camera is broken, though. In order to use the camera, you must download the Quik app. After several attempts to download and follow the prompts for set-up, I was finally able to use the new GoPro. The app is kind of cool since I can view what the camera can view. I can start and stop recording, and I’m able to change modes to take a photo. I’m still getting used to using the app to create a video of the footage I record and the photos I take. The quality and clarify of the videos seems great. You can record in a lower quality mode, 4k mode, and even record in 5k mode. The higher quality of video, the more space used on the micro sd card. So long as you have plenty of space on the card, I’d suggest to record in a higher quality mode. The higher qualify makes zooming in the editing process worthwhile. The quality and clarity is still visible even when you zoom in a little more than the raw footage. I have tried recording an outdoor concert at night and it seems to capture some of the scenery instead of just a black screen. I don’t like to talk in my videos, but the microphone pics up music and vocals well. I do like to use music in the background of my videos, so being able to capture the sounds makes for a great background for my videos. I do a lot of hiking and I feel that the stability of the footage is more controlled than before. The video doesn’t look shaky or distorted. My other action camera seems to “move” in the rocksteady mode and the GoPro seems to be less moving while walking. I also do a lot of bicycling. I have a bike mount to hold the GoPro and the stability is just as good. The full screen mode is another great feature. In this mode, you can capture an extended view of everything surrounding you. While it’s not a 360 view, it captures more than just a “flat” picture ahead. There is a slight fish-eye look to the video or photo. When you edit and crop the photo to fit the screen or the section of the area you want to zoom in, you get a much more quality photo. I think this is a great feature if you intend to edit the outcome. If you have no intentions of editing, I would suggest to use the regular mode to avoid the fish eye look of the picture. The side button of the camera quickly moves the setting from photo to video to time lapse, etc… I don’t believe those setting could be set to my likings for each mode. The top button quickly turns the camera on to the last setting which is great when I want to capture a quick video. A quick click of a button will stop the recording and turn the camera back into the off position. I was able to use the camera without having to recharge for a couple of days. While I didn’t use the camera continuously, I did use the camera for several trips for several minutes at a time. I feel that the battery life of one battery was longer lived than what I’m used to. Although, I will probably purchase additional batteries for backup. I don’t want to get stuck with a dead battery in the middle of a trip. I also feel that the batter took a little longer to charge than what I’m used to. The battery was down to 20% and took longer to charge than a completely dead battery that I’m used to. Charging the battery is fairly easy. The hardest part is taking the battery cover off. While I can’t stick a paperclip under the cover, I could use the ledge of the cover to push my thumb against to slide the cover open. The charging cord fits right into the micro-usb type c port underneath the cover. The red light turns on to show that the camera is charging. If you enjoy being active and like to capture your adventures, I think the GoPro Hero 12 Black is a great option. It’s very comparable to the other action camera that I own, seems durable, has a cool “built-in” looking cover, and has blue specks all over. I would still suggest to purchase a separate case to protect the exterior of the camera from damage in case of rugged spills. I would give this product 4.5 stars. If they could fix the drain microphone cover so it’s not so easily damaged, I would improve my rating.
