I read the reviews before purchase, and saw one or two that mentioned connectivity issues. I figured the odds were it was just a fluke, and I wasn't likely to have any issues. Well, guess what...? GoPro has an issue with some of their cameras not connecting to the Cloud. If you read the owners manual (online only) it gives instructions that include icons that are SUPPOSED to be on the camera, but DO NOT APPEAR ON MINE. The app is no help either. GoPro help and support wasn't able to solve this problem. There are also moments when the camera will not shut off without removing the battery. There are times when it turns on, but there is no picture. No explanation as to why. Also if you're planning to download the editing software on your computer from GoPro.com you have to have Windows 10, if you don't, you're out of luck. Tried looking for an older version, but GoPro updated, and no longer offers any older versions of the software. Just an FYI. Also, be aware that if you have to find out the hard way that the camera doesn't work, you have 14 days to figure out that it's essentially useless, before you lose the ability to return it to the store. When the camera DOES work, the picture quality is awesome...when it actually WORKS. Maybe the Hero6 is the version with all the bugs worked out, I can't say, but the Hero5, (mine anyway) is just a costly paperweight at this point.

This camera is the answer to many issues of the previous GoPros. Been waterproof is a great thing not worry about casing, and therefore audio is a lot better. The addition of voice control is a nice feature and the image stabilization helps but it's not a full solution. The screen is not as responsive as I would expect. In my opinion is a camera heading in the right direction but I would not buy it for 399. The YI 4k+ coming soon is cheaper I know first 60 frames per second at 4K

The new GoPro is absolutely awesome.... The GoPro has always been able to capture great footage at the touch of a button!.... but now it can be voice activated or one button power on + record. It also includes a touch screen now that you have the ability to change the settings and review or playback the footage instantaneously.

I bought 2 of these for my grandchildren for a Florida vacation. They are light and small enough for 6 year olds and easy to use - even verbal commands. Picture quality is very good and with attachable straps (sold separately) pictures and videos swimming, running the beach, and Disney rides were extra fun.

I was looking for a waterproof camera for vacations so i could record memories of them. The GoPro Hero 5 had just come out when i purchased it in October. I took it with me when i went to the bahamas. It was perfect for my trip. It took great pictures, awesome video and the coolest thing about the camera was the voice controls.

I've had the Hero 3 and this is by far the best GoPro Hero camera out yet! It was really easy to set up and begin using. Functionality wise with the built in screen is great! Compared to the Hero 3 when you had to change the case in order to fit the screen. The touchscreen is really responsive, quality of photos and videos are top notch! I love that it is waterproof, but I have yet to try that out. I definitely recommend getting the Karma Grip as well, I used it for my recent trip to Japan and the stabilization made for such amazing footage! I also got the gopro backpack, it is a tad pricey, but it made attaching it on the trains and subway so easy and quick! You can quickly detach it to grab video or even leave it mounted on your shoulder strap while you walk. Overall, a great way to get footage of a once in a lifetime trip or any event you want!

I traded up from the Hero 3 and the 5 is a huge improvement in ease of use and video quality. I love the single button on/off. The 2 button system on the Hero 3 was much easier to screw up. Also love that it is waterproof without a separate case. I mount it to a kayak helmet and it works great.

I've owned the hero 4 silver, so initially I didn't plan on purchasing the 5. However I'm glad I did! Picture quality is about the same, maybe slightly better. The few things that stand out on this camera compared to the previous versions are the image stabilization (works awesome) and makes really rocky video look smooth. Also its WATER PROOF! To me, that was a big selling point. Since 99% of my video is shot outdoors and in the elements! No more dealing with the extra cover! Not only that, since you don't need the waterproof case, the audio sounds so much better. My 4, you could tell by the sound when it was in the water proof case. They did add 2 extra mic's as well, so I'm sure that helps enormously with the sound. The mics pick up on which mic has the clearest audio, then uses that mic for audio. Of course there's variables, like distance, etc. to shorten this review up, one of the last things I'd like to add is the user ability. It is 100x easier to use than the previous version. You can change quality, shots, video anything with literally a scroll with your finger. I'd have to say, this camera is impressive.

Overall i like the fact that the go pro hero 5 now is waterproof even without the old clear case. My wife and i thought about it too long if we should spend money on a go pro. It has good quality. The only thing i wish go pro could have improve on is : the go pro appears to be easily to get hot when being use, the battery dont last like i expected so that is why go pro sells a back up battery for you to buy. I would have given it 5 star just because of this

So I got this for my motorcycle helmet because there are a lot of stupid drivers out where I live, and to use every once in a while when we go out hiking. I was told by the salesman that the battery lasts about 2 hours... NOPE! Maybe 1hr if I’m lucky, and I wish this thing also had the option to loop record onto the memory card which hasn’t worked even after selecting the icon that looks like a loop recording. Video quality is excellent, but sucks if you go out on long trips and have to constantly pull over to change out the battery and memory card.

My husband and I purchased this Go Pro to take to our honeymoon in the DR. We went snorkeling and we were so excited to use the camera underwater. After our first video, the camera froze and we were not able to get the camera to restart. The only way to get it to work is to continuously pull the battery in and out. The screen would also turn off randomly while in use. We were disappointed that we weren't able to capture these moments on our vacation so we exchanged the Go Pro for a new one when we got back and the new one works like a charm!! If i would have gotten the 2nd camera first, this definitely would be a 5 star review. Clarity of the camera is amazing!

I have go swimming, biking, hiking, skydiving. I use it even in a family reunion and I like the quality of the video. Easy to use and I don't have complains but it is a little expensive..

The quality of the video is sharp and vivid. There's no need to fiddle with the manual because it's very easy to use out of the box. The small screen is great and useful when previewing your video without hooking it up on TV. The casing is small, lightweight, and looks cool. Hope it's going to last for long time.

This camera is easy to use when in the dive housing. Picture is crystal clear and sound is perfect.

I recently bought this camera exclusively to sport on a trip to the fun side of Mexico. I accomplished all sorts of snorkeling, water sports, beach days, holidays, rough handling, and the occasional partying with this device. I got a Super Suit for it, just to be on the safe side. The controls (buttons) and commands are easy to learn and use on demand. I often used it with additional accessories I purchased but wasn't at all necessary for fun use. I enjoy the clarity of the pictures, the durability of the device itself, and the fact the camera is easier to call on then whipping out my iPhone camera. It connects to an external device by the Capture app to view and delete files by Bluetooth, which was often annoying because you have to have the device sitting right next to the camera, more often then not have both charging simultaneously. Besides this and the battery life not being outstanding (no electronic is perfect) the quality of the camera and the extra fun it brought on the trip was well worth it.

I am really happy with this GoPro. It's the best that they have put out yet. Great image for a small camera. Just make sure you have enough light. Very easy to use. Being waterproof out of the box without an additional case is a great feature. I may have to pick up another one or the 5 Session.

There is a reason GoPro continues to be the leader in action cameras. They simply work, and produce amazing footage. The latest (5) version is awesome, compact, waterproof and have voice control. I let me kids play with it and nothing has been busted, scratched, or harmed. The GoPro software also makes editing a breeze and does NOT eat up hard drive space like other video software (iMovie...). (Nevertheless, please note that it will suck up hard drive, just not as bad as others.) Buy the best. It may cost a little extra, but GoPro is the best bang for your buck.

This camera is an amazing improvement from the Hero 4. From the built in touch screen now included on the higher end version to the waterproof camera itself (no longer need the housing for waterproof). I would definitely recommend the 5 if you're looking for your first GoPro or upgrading.

Really intuitive and easy to operate user interface. With the WiFi going it really burns through batteries so definitely pick up an extra battery to have as a backup just in case. I especially like that it is fairly waterproof as is, as long as you don't damage the housing or go to deep.

We lost our original gopro in a lake about a year ago. It was several years old but we really enjoyed having it. We looked online for a used replacement for a while but decided to take the plunge and buy the new black edition.. And boy are we glad that we did! The camera is AMAZING! We took it on a trip to Hawaii and got such clear and stable footage both in and out of water. Highly recommend it to anyone looking!
