I had some trouble getting it figured out at first because there are no instructions except on the camera or online. My kids figured it out quickly so they showed me! Love the small size so I can always have it with me.

One of the best cameras we have in our photography equipment. The great part about GoPro is that it shoots great pictures and movies in every weather condition. Camera is waterproof and voice activated. Only con is the battery life and charging time. Bettery life is short; however, we were manage to shoot pictures and movies on two batteries for a whole day. Slow to charge if you are charging via an USB outlet. We highly recommend this camera if you are an avid traveler like us.

I bought this gopro to add to my video arsenal. I had the hero 3+ for about 2 years and loved it. Looked at the video on the 5 and was impressed to I invested in it. Very useful having the built in touch screen.

It's my first time owening a go pro hero camera. I'm very happy with the picture and video quality, and it's very easy to use. The only reason why I gave it a four or star rating is because I went on vacation and I couldn't wait to try my new camera, and I went snorkeling in the ocean in about 4-5 feet deep water and a water leak inside the lens and got really foggy inside for a couple of days and ruined all my videos and pictures after that, and the camera is supposed to be waterproof Right out the box. went back to Best Buy where I bought it I complained about it, and they gave me another new one. I went on Amazon and ordered an underwater case for it for my next under the water use. Other than that it's a great camera. Loving it!

Well heck. Hard to say bad things, but like so many others have said- "Do better audio !", or, at least, give us better mic options.
I have 3 mics that work just fine with it, but had to buy the "special" adapter. Also ended up with an aluminum case so I have cold-shoe options. So, of course I also bought 52mm ND filters.
Getting quite a kit together and have still only run about an hour of video through it. Mine has very strong light gathering and almost seems over-exposed, even on Auto W/B. Selecting a Kelvin can even make it worse, so ND filters.
Seems like I have a lot more to experiment with, but so far, my results have been crazy good. Just having to work it in post a bit.
Might buy a Hero6 as well...

I had a Nilkon 360 camera that I loved and after a crash. Well, it' didn't survive so with the insurance claim, since the 360 was no longer available at best buy, I grabbed another GoPro. This time the Hero 5 Black. I couldn't be happier with the image quality, the ease of use, and how much of a beating it has already been taking. We race BMX, downhill MTB and well, I attach it to everything else from the dogs to the bow of a boat and across the board, it's awesome. That's all. :)

GoPro has been around for a while - no point about writing how to ski or snowboard with it. What amused me is the quality of an underwater video one can make and how easy is to prepare the camera for a dive.
Great product. The only reason for 4 stars - software updates and Bluetooth are both sometimes a pain.

Rather Disappointed

Let me just say that I've never been disappointed enough to write a review on a product, but this had me rather upset. I'm not mad while writing this, but think it would be helpful to capture my opinion for other people looking to purchase this product.
First of all, I have owned a GoPro Hero 4 Silver for awhile now, and it works fantastic. My "beef" is not with GoPro in general, just this specific piece of GARBAGE that they've released.
I bought this camera online a few days ago so that I could capture additional HD footage alongside my Hero 4 Silver. I had read some negative reviews and didn't really find the added features (voice control, GPS, built-in waterproofing, etc.) useful, but decided to give this product a chance anyways. I got the camera in the mail along with a 128gb memory card and an additional battery. I was pretty excited and upon opening the package, the camera seemed pretty solid.
After a few seconds of checking out the camera, I put the memory card and battery in the cHero 5 Black and turned it on. Instantly, I noticed that the touchscreen was much different and, for lack of better terms, "clumsier" than the touchscreen on my Hero 4 Silver. It simply was not very responsive and I actually got a bit annoyed setting the time and date on it. Once that was finished, the camera was automatically set to begin regarding video, so I took a few "test" clips, where I held the camera out in front of me and walked around my apartment. Upon reviewing the playback footage on the built-in touchscreen, I noticed the sound was terrible and there was this strange scratching noise that could be heard over every single clip that I recorded. Aside from that, the video was jumpy and didn't always play back very smoothly. I uploaded the clips on to my computer and they were present there as well. I researched these problems online and figured I should just charge the camera all the way and update the software. So I plugged the camera in to my computer that night and let the camera charge.
I was filming my buddy who rides motocross the next day so I got up early that morning and sat down at my computer. I pulled up Quik (the GoPro software) on my MacBook and hit "update" software on my computer. Instantly, the camera just shut off and started blinking. I looked at it and saw that the front display had this "camera unavailable" screen (see picture) and I couldn't do anything with it! I couldn't hard-restart it, I couldn't turn it off, I couldn't do anything with it. I was bummed. I figured I would let it sit and see if it would restart itself. I came back later that day and put the other battery in the Hero 5 Black and the same thing happened. The camera is useless.
On top of the camera not working, the touchscreen being irritating, the sound being terrible, and the new features being useless, the batteries are also different from all previous cameras and the USB cable is different (have to carry ANOTHER cable around).
To make a long story short, I would not recommend this product. I'm worried about GoPro, not only because this camera sucks but because I keep reading about their newly released drones falling out of the sky and keep seeing their Karma Grip stabilizer system release date being postponed.
I took the Hero 5 Black back to BestBuy and traded it in for a Hero 4 Black, and the Hero 4 Black works fantastic. I would highly recommend a Hero 4 camera instead of this Hero 5 Black. I just hope GoPro gets their stuff together.

I own a Nikon DSLR, but there are some places and circumstances where I would not want to risk damaging such an expensive camera. The Go Pro is not a cheep camera but it seems to be built to handle those alternative condition that would destroy my Nikon and the photo images are excellent. I also like to convert my photos into slide shows with music to share with family. This can take hours normally on my mac, but the Free app helps you do this in minutes.. Its amazing, so far I love it!

I enjoyed my HERO3+ Black. I got a lot of good miles out of it, however, having the ability to download movies to the cloud over WiFi is the best. It's a time saver and a lot more convenient. I also like that the HERO5 Black is water proof without an additional case. I'm still getting aquatinted so I haven't learned about all the features yet but I am looking forward to using the voice control next. I'm very happy about the decision to trade in my HERO3+ Black for the 5 Black.

We bought the GoPro Hero for our anniversary trip to Hawaii. It was easy to use and easy to travel with. Having the Hero with us enabled us to capture once in a lifetime pictures and videos that we will treasure forever! We love the viewing screen. It makes it a lot easier to use due to seeing what your taping. We had the first GoPro but we weren't crazy about it for that very reason. So glad we decided to purchase the HERO so we can save special memories in the future too!!

Bought this as an everyday camera for driving and any activity I'd be doing, be it, GoKarting, Paintball, Vloging and anything else. Video quality is great, I shoot at 2.7k I believe it and it's just amazing. Audio isn't awful but it's definitely not amazing, audio is useable If you don't want to get an external Mic. I get around 2hours out of the battery maybe even 2.5hours. It's sleek looking, durable, works well and the touch screen works great too, overall a great purchase.

I was skeptical about a GoPro. Bought it in a whim, used it for few days and fell in love with it. This has to be my go-to camera for all type of activities.
Great video quality. Small form factor made it very handy and usable. Only gripe is battery life. 1080p video settings will drain out the battery after 2-2:15 hrs of recording.
Just get one or two extra battery for it if you are going to use this for longer time, those are cheap.

Hope they update the software. Waterproof without case is good but not being able to set the name of the GoPro, it's wifi or pass word is frustrating. Besides that, normal great quality from GoPro
