I recommend this camera but only to people who meet the following: someone who is keeping up with technology and someone who will use this camera often enough to make it worth their while. Electronics continue to upgrade their resolution so computers and televisions are moving from just HD to UHD and 4K and this camera can keep you on point with that technology. You probably have a smartphone that can take decent pictures and decent video already so I would advise that you ask yourself, Do I need something more? If you take a lot of pictures and lots of video then your phone will quickly reach its limitations. Plus, sometimes you need your phone to be your phone and a separate camera. So if you are taking a video and you need to answer a phone call then your smartphone isn't going to cut it. Having this camera and also your smartphone makes for a good combination but the cost/benefit analysis has to be there. I highly recommend this camera to those of you who meet those requirements listed above. * the size of the Hero 5 is different from previous models so attachments that fit around the camera chassis itself may not work with the Hero 5. * buy lots of extra batteries as thing is thirsty for juice. * I use my smartphone as a remote control for the Hero 5 and I love that feature.

Great quality pictures and videos. Put it to good use during our trip.

Great video and picture quality. Worked great, except for the screen going blank after the 1st day of use and then the wifi connection not working on the 2nd day (camera wasn't broadcasting wifi) Followed up with go pro online tech support and within 2 hours they responded with the fix (reload firmware through SD card) Apps for splicing and editing are easy to use.

Took this on our recent sailing trip to the Abacos and it performed perfectly! In the water snorkeling the video and photographs came out great! On our sailboat we got some great videos also. It is very easy to use. Huge upgrade from my old GoPro!

the clarity and stabilization is incredible. Small compact, no telephoto which I knew before purchasing. I have the attachments which are awesome and cheaper on amazon. Only drawback to load on computer its slow because of the quality of video

Used the camera during our cruise and it took great photos and excellent video. Remember, there is no zoom, so you need to be close to your objective. Will use it up coming for our Australia trip next year. Ordering the extension pole shortly.

Great action camera used while scuba diving. Amazing video quality.

Water proof in shallow waters without case is a huge plus. I put a glass screen guard to protect against scratching and everything else is just easier. Charging, changing batteries, changing sd card, video transfer, is now brainless. :D

I recently was thinking of getting the go pro black and boy am I glad I waited for the new one. This action camera is amazing from the video quality to the video stabilization. Not to mention it's water proof without a supersuit. Great device!
