I bought this to upgrade/compliment my Hero2. I had been using the hero2 with the LCD backpack which helped navigate the menus but was still very time consuming to change settings on the Hero2. Now with the touchscreen on the Hero5 the camera is a pleasure to work with. Video quality is surprisingly good though not a huge step up from the Hero4 if you already own one. Shot almost exclusively at 1080p 60fps. Used it a week in Mexico while swimming, zip lining and cave swimming. Never had an issue with the camera. Low light isn't great just like on all gopros. However while cave swimming I bumped up the ISO to 1600 and 3200 and got "usable" footage in very low light. Obviously noise was everywhere in the frame but what do you expect with a camera of this size? I shot mostly in the wide and linear setting and was happy with it. I did use the super-wide and medium settings here and there already. Nothing real surprising on any of them. Overall highly recommend if you're in the market for an all round action camera.

A notable improvement over my old Hero4 Black in terms of video/photo quality. Having an integrated screen is a major plus yet the batteries last much longer. Image stabilization is also markedly better. Only complaint would be around the responsiveness of the voice control function--unreliable even without a case or anything covering the mic.

I would say the Hero 5 is a big improvement from the prior GoPro models. The touch screen makes it a much more user friendly camera which was always the biggest draw back of the old cameras. Now that it is easier to use I find myself using my GoPro much more than I ever did before. I also like the auto upload to GoPro Plus. I haven't used it in water yet but so far I really like it.

Takes great video, audio is good close to the camera, but more than 20' out, voices will be lost. No 'fisheye' anymore either, also, if you're going to do a lot of video at once ... get the larger memory cards. I got a 32g and it ate that up in about 30 minutes or less. Get more cards, or get a 128g and save having to switch cards in the middle of whatever action you're doing.

So happy with my purchase. This takes amazing pics, in or out of the water.

The best action cam on the market today! This newest model is waterproof and does not need a housing, there is however a separate deep water water housing for it if you plan to do scuba diving with it below 100meters. The camera light sensitivity is very good as it can react very quickly to changing light conditions. I really have nothing bad to say about this GoPro.

GoPro should be a must. The combination of roughness and versatility makes it a truly unique product. Picture and video quality is great, the app is very friendly and it has very good battery life. The display is a bit small though. I will never regret I bought it just the day before going in a family vacation
