Great upgrade over previous models: Easy and fast pairing, updating and downloading media via WiFi. -Amazing stabilization (try to imagine your arm as a gimbal, if you move, do it slowly and gently even if the movement will be longer) -Many modes and options, you can be very creative with the editing after filming. -Bad at lowlight, clearly the camera is made for daylight action, expecting the camera to be the pinnacle of perfection in every category is exactly the reason you cant find a partner (think about that @@@@@@@

While this is definitely the best GoPro that they've made, it's still a GoPro. It struggles in low light, is kinda clunky to use (not terribly so though), and the footage needs a lot of work to look cinematic if that's something you're interested in. However, the stabilization is great (and I mean GREAT), it's super small and light, and if you're in good light, the footage looks good, and can even look kinda cinematic if you're willing to put in the effort in post. Overall, if you're okay with its limitations and want a GoPro to do GoPro things, I think you'll really like this camera, otherwise, it's just okay.

Purchased in October 2018 had known firmware/software issues. I knew this but decided to purchase anyways. I had terrible low light performance but was fine. Works as it should and better than my 4 blacks

I've now had four different GoPro versions and this is the best yet. Back sceen is nice and easy to use, and the stabilization feature works well. It's important to remember this is $400 camera so it'sn't perfect. Performance in low light isn't that great. Again, it's a $400 camera. All things considered, this is a good purchase.

This is almost perfect. The normal complaints are battery life (30-45 minutes) low light isn't the greatest. The stabilization is very good. Gimbal good, not quite, but close. The video is amazing, the gesture control, and live streaming is nice. The water proof, and dust proof is a must for me. I am very rough with it and it is holding up very well. I've had it for about a month with no issues.

GoPro Hero 7 Black Intro I've had the Hero 4 and 5 Black/Session and I've either sold them or return them (except for the Session. I kind of like that little guy) because they didn't perform as I expected them to with certain features. Audio was either muffled or tinny. Stabilization was my biggest complaint because it wasn't available in 4K. Even with 2.7K where EIS was available, the video wasn't that smooth. Did they fix my complaints with this Hero 7 Black? Oh yes they did. Audio is so much better that there's almost no need to find a way to use an external mic. OK maybe not that good yet but it's a lot better that its predecessors. Video stabilization is now available in 4K. In fact, it's available in 4k @ 60fps. Is it really good? It's "Insanely Smooth Video" says Gopro and it's really, really good for EIS (Electronic Image Stablization). They call it HyperSmooth, gimbal like stabilization without the gimbal. It really works surprisingly good but there are features where EIS is not available like 8X slo-mo or if you shoot video in 4K 4:3. I also found that EIS still suffers in low light. This is where optical image stabilization is superior. They added a new time-lapse feature called TimeWarp video and it's stabilized. The video bit rate hasn't changed from the Hero 6 & 5 so no 100mbps video from this camera yet and still at 12MP photos. BUT, you can turn on the camera with voice control . well, when it wants to that is. I found it to be hard of hearing at times... haha. Other specs of this camera is almost the same as its predecessors. Other notable feature is the SuperPhoto with HDR, local tone mapping and noise reduction. I only touch on the ones that really makes this camera way different than the Hero 5 & 6 for those who are thinking of upgrading or buying the Hero 7. If you already own the Hero 5 or 6, the accessories fit and that includes the battery. OK, so to test the HyperSmooth video, I've a YouTube video of the Hero 7 mounted on a RC car, eScooter and my SUV. Go check it out here > https://youtu.be/ZOPLfplNWv4 Pros - Uses the same accessories as series 5 & 6 Hero including the battery - Built-in 8GB storage - 4K video is finally stabilized with HyperSmooth - SuperPhoto with HDR takes awesome images. Cons - Still using electronic image stabilization; not optical - Still not tripod mountable without using accessories - Voice control is questionable Outro The Hero 7 Black is the best action camera that GoPro has ever put together. I still think it falls short when compared to Sony's FDRX3000 but the Hero 7 might just get GoPro back on track.
