    Don't buy if using in Cold Temps

    I received this GoPro when it first came out back in October 2018. I sent in my old Hero 4 Silver to get $100 off. When it came, I tested it on my mountain bike and liked it. Fast forward to Christmas 2018. We finally have enough snow in Utah to film some skiing. I go to Brighton and am at the top of Great Western. I turn on the camera and it shuts off after 10 seconds (this is seriously how much footage I got). I try to turn it back on, but it does nothing like a lifeless rock. Perhaps I didn't charge the battery adequately? I take it home and charge it. The next ski outing, the same thing happens again (it was probably 20 degrees F). When I get home, I am able to turn on the camera and it says 96% battery left. I never had this issue with my GoPro Hero4 Silver. I start chatting with GoPro about this and they tell me this is a known characteristic of Lithium Ion batteries. They tell me I should protect the camera from the cold. "Just so you know, this is typical behavior of our cameras in cold weather." "Um, I never had this issue with my Hero4 Silver." "I'm sorry, but you just need to do better at keeping the camera protected from weather while you use it." "How am I supposed to do that when I am skiing?" "Wear a chest mount." "I was wearing a chest mount." I demanded my money back along with my camera that actually works, and they said I was outside the 30 day money back guarantee. I asked to speak with their manager and the lady closed the chat after 10 minutes. Do not buy this camera if you ski or board.

    I purchased this camera around 45 days ago because my HERO 4 proved to be a solid device with only one complaint – horrible battery life. My family is very active outdoors, and so I ventured out and spent nearly $700 dollars on this HERO 7 camera, compatible SD card, additional batteries and a few other accessories. All of this and I find this model to be so defective that I would be ashamed to put it out on the market. Short battery life was a given, but what I have experienced so far is truly disappointing. So, going down the list: #1 Camera will not hold charge beyond 45 minutes with most of the advertised features turned off, I.E. voice control and WiFi disabled. #2 Camera gets hot after just a few minutes. #3 Freezes constantly – I have to pull the batteries to reset. #4 Internal clock resets to random dates. #5 Using the micro HDMI – camera goes black and I get a “no signal” on my TV. Tried all kinds of settings with no success. For someone who uses an action camera simply because of its convenient size, not abusing the device at any level; it is a total failure by GoPro to release such a defective unit.

    Disappointing Customer Service and Quality

    I purchased a Hero7 Black special edition (the white version) in mid March of this year. While the performance is okay, the white version of this camera stained and got severely marked up after just a few uses. I contacted customer service within 90 days of use asking for an even exchange on this camera for a black hero 7 (which would hide marks and dirt better). I did not use this camera in any way that would be outside the scope of typical use. I would expect the build quality and material of a $400 ACTION camera to be better than what I have experienced. I contacted customer service and their best recommendation was for me to sell it on my own and then re-purchase a black one. Why should I have to lose time and money on something that I spent over $500 on (with accessories)? To add insult to injury, they sent me a youtube video of 'how to clean your GoPro' after stating it was impossible to exchange. All I was looking for was an exchange and my experience with customer service was very disappointing and frustrating. I have various cameras (DJI Mavic Pro, Nikon D3500), but this was my first experience with GoPro and GoPro customer service and I really am not happy with either.

    Camera Overheat's causing limited record time!

    I purchased 2 cams GoPro 7 Black both RETURNED. After talking to support and running my own tests I found the camera's overheat to 130+ degrees. The camera continues heating until the battery is fully drained. The camera also has problems with staying connected through WiFi/BlueTooth. It"s is a shame because this is the best one out there. However, I'm afraid it's going to cause a big problem. Do Your Homework before you JUMP.. Pic is temp readings room 71 other 110deg is the camera. Battery drained at 125deg and camera shut down.

    Unbelievably bad software, tragically unreliable

    This is one of the worst consumer products I've ever purchased in terms of stability - the hardware, the software, the accessories are all half-baked and rarely works as intended. In a single day I will have to pull the battery from each of my Hero 7 Black cameras a dozen times because they crash and about 1/3 of the time the camera will fail to save the footage, which has been catastrophic in a few cases. The software they have you install on your computer is absolute trash. If you can get past the continuous crashing, it's slow and lacks most basic features. Good luck if you're trying to download the videos manually - they don't play correctly outside of the GoPro ecosystem. In summary, this product shouldn't even be on the market. I'm surprised everyone who's bought one hasn't skipped it across a lake by now.

    Brought it few days back and as per the memory card comparability list brought a Samsung 256gb memory card, started using it and since day one started observing that camera just stops responding suddenly and starts action of repairing file. Yesterday went to a beach to take some videos and I went ahead and started to take photos in Burst mode, well the camera started taking photos and then it suddenly stopped and when it restarted it said it needs to repair or format the memory card, now I’ve lost almost 100gb of videos and photos that I’ve taken, GoPro team you tell me now how to get the data back? What kind of products do you design?

    Zero customer support from BB or GoPro. Received it for a Bday gift and never even got it to set up! GoPro app sucks, wouldn't sync to Note 9, IPad Pro 2, or HP laptop. BB said call GP. GP said to remove and download again, so I tried 3 devices. I am debating on putting up a video on my YouTube channel running it over to make a point instead of getting the money back! THAT'S HOW BAD THE EXPERIENCE AND FRUSTRATION HAS BEEN KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR NEW YOUTUBE if my wife doesn't kill me first! A really crappy product made worse by no support!!! Buy something else!

    Freezes and GoPro App disconnects a lot

    I purchased my Hero 7 Black on launch day along with the 64gb GoPro recommended SD card. Nothing but problems, could not update thru the app for starters. I had to install firmware 1.51 manually. It freezes and locks up all the time. I called the support number and really did not get good help. They told me to reset and reload the firmware and I did that multiple times. I told myself if this camera locks up one more time it's going back to BestBuy while is was currently locked up so I could show them my headaches with this camera. I returned it, I don't think it was ready for prime time!!!!

    I will start by saying the footage from the Hero7 Black is awesome. The Hypersmooth is as advertised. Now... if only I can get the camera to work without it freezing, overheating, or draining the battery. Those three issues happened repeatedly. Almost every time I'd go from viewing the media back to the camera, it froze to the point where I'd have to pop the battery out and restart. To say that was frustrating... an understatement. Hopefully these issues are remedied through a software update. It's too bad because it really is a nice camera... when it works.

    Camera was purchased for a trip to Disney with grandkids , I was able to take 3 pictures on first day , then the camera would not work for the rest of the trip. unfortunately I was sure there would be no issues since I had shot phots severalties before trip, I did not take a better camera? this was a bg disappointment not being able to take pictures of a this trip with my grandkids, very very upset. Go Pro credit less about this, they did agree to replace camera ? I do not recommend this camera unless there is a back up camera to go with it .

    I expend over 600 on the go pro 7 plus accessories. big mistake. 1. i never bother to ask if i needed new pc or laptop to play go pro videos. turns out you do, specially if shoot in 4k. not every computer can handle. the staff at bestbuy didn't ask ether. if you dont have a proper system and displays you wont be able to edit much. 2. if you shoot in 1080 and below np issues with older pc's and laptops. 3. also i might need a new tv . i haven't tried connecting go pro to tv yet. so it might not be a total lost. 4. battery life is also no good. need to have several spares. will return, i will loose money as there is a 30% restocking fee. hopefully can also return the accessories.

    Great until the freezing happens

    I bought three (3) of these with the trade-up program. I loved the camera for the first few weeks until the camera started freezing all of the time. I called GoPro, and they recommended that I reinstall the firmware (which I did) and I have only used the recommended memory cards (also purchased through GoPro). You can’t rely on this camera; I lost my son’s graduation ceremony due to a freeze ☹ I am going to keep the camera, but you should do a few google searches before buying.

    Total WASTE of my time! I don't recommend this AT ALL if you have never operated this! The instructions are NON EXISTENT unless you go fishing on the web and if you don't have a smartphone, ABSOLUTELY don't even think of buying this CRAP! I have an iPhone and it's STILL a royal waste! NO setup instructions except a picture! $400 and you get a LOUSY PICTURE that tells you NOTHING! And then you have to plug into a USB port to charge it! Thanks Best Buy guy for NO guidance on this piece of garbage when you KNEW I had never owned one before!!!!

    I was willing to pay the money for the Go Pro Hero 7 Black but after trying it out I realized it definitely wasn't worth the money. The battery is difficult to get out. Plus, to charge it I had to pull out the memory card. I shouldn't have to do that. For the price, I expect the camera to function properly without having to find makeshift ways to get it to work. Returned it and will not buy another.

    This camera did not work out of the box. It doesn’t allow me to take any photos or videos, it just freezes up. I tried all the troubleshooting and still didn’t work. I then tried to return to Best Buy and they told me they could not exchange it for a working one. Will never buy from BestBuy again.

    I have a few other go pros. this series is terrible. does not work in cold weather. the last update was supposed to fix this problem but it did not. took it to Tahoe for the week and it performed terribly. had to take it back. my buddy who was also on the trip with the GoPro 7 had the same issues

    Camera broke first time it was used. Waterproof camera had water leaked into the camera and stopped working one day into vacation. Extremely frustrating. Working with GoPro to get replaced, but can’t replace the experience.

    My Hero 7 Black takes great video. But as a device to take snorkeling, it is incredibly disappointing that under water there is no way to zoom. It’s kind of hard to get fish, a stingray, or a shark to swim up close. Lots of waterproof cameras can zoom. How did they leave that off their features?

    Have to pull battery alot. Screen freezes alot. After changing resolutions sometimes it will do a split screen thing. Which I'm not sure its supposed to do it. I've only used it for 12 minutes total. Never dropped and in a protective case. No clue what its issue it. 1
