I have used my GoPro to catch fast action of a fishing boat. Voice control is especially nice. I have also used it on our road trips to catch memories of our quiet days together. And the grand kids love seeing themselves on video !

This camera has met my expectations for an action documenting device on my bicycle. The vibration dampening software is unbelievable. I am still having a little trouble using the video on FaceBook and related social sites. This issue is most likely my issue with the new technology.

GoPro Hero 9 is the perfect upgrade. Best feature for me is the Horizon Leveling option. I clamp it to my gimbal now and no worries about if my horizon is off, when I focusing on my primary camera! Hyper Smooth 3 is awesome too!

I haven’t splurged on a good action camera yet, have used some cheaper knockoffs “which actually work really well”, but never really needed anything more till I saw the new Hero 8 was out and it had image stabilization built in. Decided it was time to give a higher end unit a shot. Unboxing: The camera is boxed in a clear topped display box showing off the camera really nicely and pretty much the same as all the other models. Inside there’s a mount that you have to unclip from the base of the box, a stick on base mount, USB-C cable and instruction manual, pretty basic nothing else in the box. The camera itself feels firm and heavy duty, no give anywhere, almost like a solid chunk of metal feel to it. The side edges around the screen and front are covered in a satin rubbery feeling material, while the rest has a satin gray/black metallic finish. Setting up: I immediately opened the battery door, where the USB C, SD slot also reside and plugged in the camera to my USB charger and let it charge up before using. I did notice it got pretty warm while charging but not overly hot and only took around an hour to charge. The battery door will come off very easily by applying slight pressure upwards till it comes off; this makes it very convenient for removing the battery or trying to get the SD card in/out. After inserting an SD card I went through the menu and set the camera up. The touch screen although small is very responsive and didn’t have any problem getting all the initial settings put in. It then asked that I install the GoPro app on my phone which I did and then went through the rest of the setup on my phone. It also had a new Rom update and I let it go about updating that before continuing. Use: All I can say is wow; the video quality even set at 2k is simply amazing. We’ve been having fun using the Time Warp mode and driving around. Haven’t even gotten into the other settings that much since we’ve been enjoying this but from what I can see from the image quality in these videos we won’t be disappointed. I have taken a couple still shots with it, they aren’t as good as my cell phones images but they are perfectly acceptable, they even froze the water droplets coming out of our lawn sprinklers in the image. I’m not concerned about still image quality though as I’m intending to use this as a video camera only. Comparing the image quality to the cheap imported action camera is no match and with the stabilization on the image is so smooth and free of jitter I was just floored. Those Time Warp videos look every bit as good as the ones we’ve seen use on various channels on our 4k TV, just simply amazing. GoPro has really sold me on their cameras now and it would be very hard for me to go back to using a cheap imported knockoff.

If you asked my family how hard I struggled with this purchase, you would probably laugh at the fact I almost returned it 5 times (2 out of those 5 times it was actually in the car with me). Here's the good: - Easy to use - Small - Waterproof - Sturdy - Quick shooting for video and pics when it's needed Here's the Bad: - Abysmal battery life when it comes to 4K recording. Almost embarassing. Makes me a little sad thinking about it. - Low light performance is non-existent. Don't push this thing past ISO 800. You'll hate anything above that (again, embarassing). - Expensive accessories (granted you can get the offbrand stuff, still...) My honest thoughts. It's a fun little camera and it does really capture amazing quality in daylight and well lit areas. I loved the fact that holding this in my hand vs. my phone made it easy for me to stay in the moment. The quick shot option is great and makes it easy to capture images and video at a moments notice. It's honestly my favorite part. The fact that it's sturdy and can withstand weather and water without a case is another BIG plus. However, if you do plan on doing ANY night or evening shooting...you better have an external light source nearby because this thing just cannot handle high ISO well. Like I can't push it beyond ISO 800 without starting to see major grain. It just ruins the shot altogether. Also, do yourself a favor and buy minimum of another battery. I can barely get a full hour of 4K recording before it decides to die. So...yeah, not the greatest, but tailor your expectations that the battery life is short. Take short videos and you'll be golden. In all honesty, I like the darn thing. Despite it being flawed in ways I think it shouldn't be, it's a fun little camera to throw in my bag and go. It works well, and does a surprisingly good job.

GoPro Continues To Set The High Standard!

GoPro has really been the most popular action camera for the past decade and its easy to see why. They continue to set higher marks and come out with better cameras with higher quality features. The Hero 8 is no exception and is a great product to own! PROS: - The Hero 8’s design is very familiar if you have had a previous GoPro model. However they made a few big improvements, mainly being the hinge for the battery/memory card & the permanent mount. It just feels so much sleeker overall because of this! - On the Permanent mount, I’m a big fan of this! It makes everything so much more accessible to not have to put it into a mount every-time you want to use it. That being said, you can still use a mount easily. Also if you are worried that the permanent mount my break, I don’t think it will but even if it did you can remove it and buy a replacement one easily. - At the time of this review, the Hero 8 Mods are not available but it’s something I am very excited about! Something that is a big plus as an addition in the future. - The use of the camera is just fantastic! It has the new HyperSmooth 2.0 which is very noticeable to not make any of your footage too shaky and feel very stable. I also like how you can utilize that on the 4K resolution as sometime cameras limit features on higher resolutions and frame rates. - I’m also a big fan of the different lenses as you can easily switch from narrow all the way to super wide. It’s becoming more common to see this in a lot of different cameras and I’m happy with it. - The Hero 8 also has Voice Control which is very hand to have. It’s just an easy way to give the GoPro commands without having to constantly being touching it. - Finally, the GoPro Hero 8 continues its tradition of being very rugged and do it all. You can bring it 33 ft deep in water, the lens has increased in impact resistance, and overall it has great impact resistance. Great for heavy hitters or just if you are clumsy! CONS: - I realize the limitations that GoPro has with its size and wanting to maintain high battery levels, but it would have been nice to have a larger display screen with smaller bezels on the backside. I think it would help make this item more high end and make for easier navigation with the touchscreen. - Overall I can’t find too much I do not like about this GoPro. Only other thing I can think of is accessories are important to get the best use out of this and they don’t come with it. But those are easy to find in stores or online. Also don’t forget to get a Memory Card that supports 4K HDR! BOTTOM LINE: - The Hero 8 is simply the best action camera you can buy. It’s perfect for something as simple as pictures or video taping Christmas morning, to something more complex like scuba diving & snowboarding, or for vloggers who live stream or run a YouTube channel. It really is a do it all camera at the highest quality!

Best Action Camera you can buy

So, my review of the camera is going to be a bit limited. Unfortunately, when I received the camera I came down with a bug and then to top it off the weather went south. I did what I could around the house but of course that’s not really the camera’s main intent. Having used a camera from another company in the past and submitting a review on here for it, the GoPro has come quite a way. At the time, the camera I had reviewed previously was the only one to feature any form of image stabilization and its implementation was incredible. With the GoPro here, it works just as well in my opinion. The other camera made everything very smooth though it felt as though there was an artificial feeling to it. The implementation here does appear to be better. My biggest like on the GoPro is that unlike the camera I had before, this one has a usable app. It’s not something that you can only use after the fact with recording, but that you can use while you are recording, which sets the GoPro apart from many others. The app seems intuitive and easy enough to use. Think of your phone or tablet or another device as a massive viewfinder. There is a bit of lag though and I’m currently using a Galaxy Note 10+ so it shouldn’t be a limiting factor to much of a degree. I’m guessing that Bluetooth just overall lacks the bandwidth for this though I think it may have more to do with range and BT really is only reliable out to 30 Feet. I’m not sure if the Wi-Fi direct connection is running off of 2.4Ghz or if it’s using 5.0Ghz. The latter I would imagine could reduce the lag. Picture quality is great, especially with HDR and the available recording options adjustable to certain degrees. There are 2 wide modes, 4k30/60fps and 1080p60/240fps along with Slow-Mo and Time Lapsing options, there's so much versatility here. I like that there’s a built-in mount, though it’s durability might be brought in to question down the road as it’s merely plastic. It does collapse up in to the frame though. There are quite a few upcoming accessories for it that would really make this camera tough to beat for its price point. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed at all with your purchase and I don’t thing there’s really anything out currently that could compare feature wise for the price. If you’re in the market for an action based camera that’s easy to use, quick to set up, extremely versatile and resistance to the elements, once again GoPro nails it and hits it out of the park, seriously, go get one. I would also recommend getting an extra battery and for storage, go as large as your pockets are deep. You can get 75 Minutes of footage at 1080p60. For 4k60 with the highest settings you can get around 35 minutes on a 32GB microSD. Going to 256GB or even 512GB given how much cheaper they've gotten over the years will dramatically increase your recording times. You might even run out of battery before running out storage!

The GoPro Hero 8 is an amazing camera! It's compact, lightweight, and easy to use. The image quality is outstanding, and the new HyperSmooth 2.0 stabilization feature is incredible - it makes even the shakiest videos come out smooth and steady. I also love the TimeWarp 2.0 feature, which lets me create super-stabilized time-lapse videos. The camera is also waterproof, so I can take it with me on all my water adventures. Overall, I highly recommend the GoPro Hero 8 to anyone who wants a high-quality camera that can handle any adventure or activity.

So I compared this to my Hero 7 Black, and the quality of the video and pictures are much better. The video is much smoother, and audio seems to have been improved as well. If you like action cameras, you'll love this one. It's at the top of the food chain for this type of camera. My only gripe, is that in 4k 60fps, there is no linear option. I really wanted that. Oh well, maybe next year.
