Bought a GoPro 8 for my father for Christmas. He opened it up and charged it on Christmas day. It would not power on after the initial charge. Just a solid red light. The camera also got very hot. I've read similar reviews of overheating. I returned the camera to Best Buy a few days later and got another GoPro 8 considering the price of the 9 and 10 were $200+ more than the 8. This one is working so far, but i don't have much faith in this model. I'd probably stay away from it.

Bought this for shooting video for the Marine Corps and oh my goodness this guy stands strong no matter what we put it up to, whether it's mounting it on humvees or Kevlars in the field. This camera has been thrown, dropped, stepped on, you name it, it's most likely seen it. And it stands strong, my only real gripe about it is the battery life. It is fine for how small the camera is but I find myself frequently needing to change batteries. Overall this thing is quite a unit and if you're doing anything rough with it, it can take it.

I resisted getting a GoPro until after about a year of manually synchronizing my videos with my race data acquisition software. Now it's automatic! I love it!
The video quality is awesome! It took a little getting used to the menu (from my other cameras) but once figured out, it's easy to use and adjust settings.
I love the voice control. I love the simple press of the Record button to begin my race session and that pressing the same button then stops recording and turns the camera off for better battery life during the day.

Go pro is everything you need. If you are recording some vacation, event or in action sport videos, it impresses. This is an older model, but works amazing still. The app is pretty cool to. With some practice you can make some pretty decent content.

The camera itself works great

The camera itself works great, it's sleek and stylish. The quality of the camera is top-notch.
Then we get to the subpar software tools GoPro gives you to use with your camera. You cannot offload your media directly to your computer by hooking your camera to your USB port,
Then when using Their Quik software on your phone it does not use Bluetooth to transfer your media from your camera to your phone you have to use your phone’s WIFI and while it’s transferring the files you can’t use your phone or WIFI for anything else while the operation is happening.
The GoPro software will not download your media to your SD card it will only download it to your phone’s internal storage, So if you filmed that family reunion and you do not have a few hundred gigabytes on your phone’s internal storage after every few videos you download to your phone, you get low storage error messages
So the new 500gb SD care you bought to store the GoPro media on your phone is useless because for some reason unknown to modern man they decided your small internal phone storage is the place to store large media files.
The cameras software does not name your files correctly so they are NOT in order of the time you took the pics/video when transferred to your Windows computer “That makes more work filing and when editing videos”
The only way to get your GoPro files on your computer is by taking the SD card out of your camera and putting it in an SD-Card reader. This puts undue wear and tear on your GoPro and SD Card and computer IO ports.

GoPro is awesome but the Hero8 Black isn't

First, I love GoPros. Love them. Have purchased quite a few over the years and have not been disappointed... until the Hero8 Black. I bought it because my other 8 went on the frits and GoPro was replacing it with the 9. Good deal. Great cusotmer service. Not great since I was going on vacation in 2 days and wanted to take my gopro. So I went to Best Buy and bought another Hero8 to have on vacation. It worked fine the first few month. Only used it on vacation and recordings at home. I was hopeful since this was my 2nd hero8. Stability, clarity, all fantastic. It takes great action videos. Hands down. Under water...amazing. I love it.
The first one has "performance issues". Well, so does this one and I now know it's a model issue. This model just has issues. Who doesn't! After 10 months this new Hero 8 went south as well. GoPro having a great customer service and return within the warranty period of 1 year made the frustrating event bearable.
There are no more Hero 8 being made so they are sending me another 9 which I'm happy with. It's a great camera. In short, don't get the 8. It has issues. The 7 was great as well. But do get a GoPro. You will not regret it.
