The GoPro LIT promises simplicity and portability. But under the hood, it’s a mixed bag of clever design and frustrating limitations. Here’s what I found after putting it through real-world stress tests. I’ll cover that and compare it to my DJI Action 4 for video & photo mode and compare the audio quality of the two. Setup & App: Setup requires app and account if you’re a first-time user. Right after setting up ID and password to my new account GoPro wants you to upgrade to “premium” but doesn’t really say what it is, just vaguely. It a GoPro cloud service that allows unlimited video upload from any GoPro device, less storage for other brands. Next the app requires you to update camera. It took several times for the camera to connect and get update. The Quik app lets you do some video picture tweaks like Exposure, Contrast, Vibrance, Highlight and color temperature after you shoot the video or photo. Some or all of that ought to be available to tweaked to some degree in camera, such as fixed white balance and exposure compensation. Seems other GoPro cameras allow that as does DJI on the Action 3/4/5 cameras, and even my old Sony action cams. Note that the BB ad specs state there are modes and maybe features that are to be added post release? I didn’t see that in GoPro’s site about this camera. Video Modes & Stabilization: You MUST use the GoPro Quik app in Android or iOS to apply image stabilization, slo mo or anything else. If you pull video straight from the card it’s super wide with heavy fisheye effect distortion. You can also use third party apps to crop and correct video like Quik does. There is no Quik app for Mac or PC. There was for Mac until the end of 2024 and Go Pro pulled it to force users to use the mobile app. They also push their cloud service via the app pretty heavy. Not a bad deal for GoPro users that shoot a lot of video and need integrated offline storage that works with the app. But if you don’t, GoPro urging you to get it can get annoying. If you already have it then you’re good to go once you add the LIT to the app. Slo Mo is another way of saying 60 frames per second in 4K. Consider it 4K / 60 Mode as well. You have to use the app to get Slo Mo which just slows playback to 30 FPS and saves it that way. However, the app also gives you more playback rate options and doesn’t mute the audio. Video is 4K 30 FPS and 1080P 30 FPS. Both are 16:9 wide screen format. Video 4:3 is 4K 30 FPS in a 4 by 3 ratio. The pre High Def TV screen standard. The camera can get a little warm in use and just sitting on a table transferring files. The light is very bright. Too bright to use to vlog with, even at the lowest setting with the diffuser on it. It did a good job lighting up a dark room well enough to video anything within about 5 feet and get good lighting. It will do OK for fill lighting in some situations like at dusk. But if you try to use it to vlog with the sun behind you, not happening. Not bright enough for that. LOL! I tried it. What I would have liked to have tried was using underwater at night on a selfie stick, but the weather didn’t allow it. Video quality isn’t bad in most situations. Especially if you have good lighting. I shot video in the day, dusk and night. On foot and in a car. I thought it did pretty good at night with my wife driving through town while I shot video. Yes, very bright lights were a little blown out but the dark areas were dark and didn’t have that overdone HDR look to them. Redlights, neon signs and such, didn’t lose their color either. Video can be dark in the shadows depending on the lighting, say if the sun is in about a quarter to a third of the frame and the rest of the area is shaded. It does an average for the most part but once a much bright section hits a certain ratio for filling the screen, it will set its exposure to it. That will cause it to make the darker part of a scene even darker or black. The color always seemed to have a warm cast to it and the color saturation looked good. The auto white balance did good with one exception, and that was shooting at night and driving under orange sodium streetlights. This would cause the white balance to shift and turn everything blueish until it had enough light to change it. White LED streetlights did fine. Heavy fisheye effect in videos without App IS applied in the app. The app does cropping and image de-warping to fix it. If you pull the card out of the camera and play the videos, they will look very different, very distorted. Like the still photos. Photo Mode: Photos are JPGs fixed at 4:3 and has a serious warped fisheye look to it. Photo quality is fair at best. They lack contrast, look a bit washed out, dull and not sharp. See photos. Audio Response: Audio sounds pretty good but it’s not going to record Hi Fi quality. The bass response is attenuated by around 10 dB starting at about 120 hz and rolling off about 20 hz. Treble starts rolling off at 8khz and stops at 18khz. That’s a 50 Db roll off. However, the limiter keeps the audio from getting close to clipping at high volumes. I tested it at very low and high volumes. It did very well pulling up the gain as well as limiting it. More info about the audio in my comparison to the DJI Action 4 below. See photos. Other things to note: Hitting power button also changes modes. Hitting power or record will turn it on. I like that it has a standard tripod mount on the bottom as well as the Go Pro standard feet that flip out. Build quality feels excellent and the lens cover (glass) is replaceable. Mono audio. Has a mic on the front and on the top. No mic input. Multi language voice control option. Compared to the DJI Action 4 the Go Pro LIT falls way short, but if Go Pro added some features like exposure compensation, white balance presets, scene presets and some manual control, that would bring it much closer. Not sure if a firmware update could give it in camera IS as to not need the app, but that would be a biggie. The image quality of the Action 4 is also better and there might not be any firmware update that can change that. The Action 4 offers way more control, has a front touch screen, swappable batteries and it’s not that much bigger. It’s also only twenty bucks more than the LIT. When comparing the audio, to the Action 4 doesn’t attenuate the bass much. Maybe 5 dB starting at 100 Hz and rolling off to 20. The high end doesn’t start rolling off at 14 Khz and drops by 40 dB at 20 khz. That sounds great until the volume goes up and then the audio huffs and puffs at high volume from a none defeatable limiter on Action 4. GP uses a little stronger lowpass filter a limiter and does not “breath” with the bass. The LIT records at a lower lever at high volume than the Action 4. The 4 it right at clipping. Like a Loudness War remix. See photos. I have posted several photos so you can compare photos, frame grabs & my test rig. I tested both cameras with default settings and only did copy-paste in Photoshop to create the mosaics. The Action 4 has overall better image quality and does better in mixed lighting situations. More dynamic range in reducing highlights and raising shadows than the LIT out of the camera. You can tweak this a little in the Go Pro Quik app. With the Action 4, you can pop the card out of the camera and go. With the LIT you MUST use the app to add stabilization and tweak exposure, color and such. You also must download the video into the app to save it in full quality and edit it. Then Share it to save it on your device or elsewhere. Downloading a video with Quik to my iPad Air M3 didn’t save it where the iPad gallery app could find it, only sharing it did. I don’t like that. Final Thoughts: I love the size, weight, feel and build. I think if Go Pro added a few things like in camera exposure compensation, white balance presets and exposure control options, I’d give it 4 stars. The GoPro LIT is a curious mix of clever hardware and frustrating software constraints. It’s fine for casual users, but serious shooters will find themselves boxed in by auto-only modes and app dependencies. With a few firmware tweaks and manual controls, it could be a sleeper hit. As it stands, it’s a decent backup, not a primary.

The GoPro Lit Hero is surprisingly compact, noticeably lighter weight, and has much simpler controls than I was expecting having owned a Go Pro Hero 9 Black for several years. The Lit Hero is not going to win any technical battles, but it is a great option for beginners or as a second Go Pro. The built-in light comes in very handy to fill in dark spots and reduce noise. Starting off with the Lit Hero, I was actually underwhelmed. I expected it to be like my other Go Pro and was looking for things that weren't there. That started to change a few days in and I actually find myself grabbing it more often than my Hero 9, especially for quick or spontaneous videos. There are 4 simple modes: 16:9 video at 30fps (4k or 1080p resolution), 4:3 Video at 30fps (4k resolution only), Slo-Mo at 60fps (2.7k or 1080p resolution), and photo (12 mega-pixel resolution). It is important to note that there are no stabilization or protune settings like other GoPros, but the GoPro Quik app makes up for many of these by allowing some changes after importing. Most of the time I just use the 4:3 mode and make any adjustments I need later in the Quik app. 4k video has a reasonable bitrate, natural color, and is sharp with good light. The same is true of still photos, but there is a capture delay, so it might be better to grab a still from a short 4k video for moving subjects. Go Pro includes a curved adhesive mount with the Lit Hero, which feels very secure (mine is attached a DOT rated helmet). The lighter weight of the Lit Hero is definitely noticeable on the helmet mount. Despite the smaller size, there are many mounts available and it supports both the standard and optional magnetic Go Pro mounts. In the future I plan to use the Lit Hero to get some Jeep underbody shots on hard obstacles offroad. I have my other Go Pro on a dash mount to capture the front view, but it will be cool to use the Lit Hero to capture the trail from a different perspective. The built-in light is very bright and has already come in handy for troubleshooting a few issues on my Jeep (an odd steering noise and a transfer case output shaft leak). I used an inexpensive magnetic mount attached to different parts of the frame, so I could adjust the placement to get the view I wanted. I then set the built-in light to illuminate the area I wanted to see and took a few drives (the light is critical, because it is too dark under the Jeep even in bright sunlight). I appreciate that the light has a dedicated button and stays on whether or not you are filming or not. One thing to note is that the light is too bright to film people or animals up close (even with the included diffuser and 3 brightness levels). The built-in battery is not terrible, but it limits the length of video you can capture significantly. In my use it was good for around 45mins at 4k with built-in light on. You can extend it to a little over an hour on battery saver (1080p, no light). At around 20% you get a warning message that the battery is too low and the built-in light is no longer available. It takes around an hour to recharge. I plan on using an external USB power supply when I can to keep the battery charged, but I am also realistic that I will have to plan and be more selective than I was with my other GoPro that had swappable batteries. The quik app is easy to use and is a must to add stabilization, make adjustments, join long videos together, and quickly share content. Unfortunately, it is only available as a phone app (no PC) and the Lit Hero does not support wired phone transfers via USB (only much slower and less reliable wireless transfers). On my android, I have to switch to 5G to prevent Wi-Fi connection issues, but this does make the wireless transfer more reliable and also helps with live preview issues.

GoPro makes great physical products. They are known for making great physical products. The GoPro - LIT HERO Action Camera is no different. While some of the things associated with this physical product may knock it down a peg, that doesn't take away from the fact the LIT HERO (Not a fan of the name) is still a great, small camera. Setup. Setup with this camera was such a hassle. I tried with my Android, then I tried with my iPhone, then i tried with my Android again. Updating the device kept error'ing out. With a freshly flashed high-end micro sd, I got different errors on my different phones repeatedly. I had to download the update outside of the app, put it on the micro SD on a computer, then reset the camera multiple times to get it to stop defaulting to downloading the update. Maybe this is an experience only I experienced. Maybe there was some weird relationship between my micro SD and the camera...but setup shouldn't be that hard. What made setup even more annoying was the constant ads. When you go to the link to download the Quik app, your originally taken to a page that looks like an ad, then the app store loads and you can download the app. I thought maybe I forgot I was on some weird website on my phone, however, when I was forced to download the app on my iPhone, I ended up back on that same site before the App store loaded. When you're in the app you're constantly reminded of the option to subscribe. I may have been more intrested in joining the subscription service if I was allowed to spend sometime finding out how awesome the camera is first. Did I say this camera is awesome? While it's small, it definitely has a solid feel to it. Clearly made for those who take risks. While I don't, it feels good holding the camera knowing that it can probably take a lick or two. The camera is controllable either from the device with it's small touch screen on the back, or fully controllable via the app. The video quality? Crazy! From regular 4k videos to slow-mo videos, the videos are great...but so are the pictures. The amount of details in the pictures is nuts. Could definitely see myself propping the camera up and using it to get snaps using the app more often. The mic on the camera pics up audio very well. I could clearly hear the background conversations happening in some of the videos I recorded. The GoPro - LIT HERO is a great action cam. Durable and small, yet with great video/photo quality. I could see this camera getting good usage in outside of the skateparks, waves, and mountains...I just wish they'd cut back on all the ads. While the setup process was an annoyance, there's a chance that could have been a me situation...and even if it wasn't, once the cameras setup, you don't have to deal with that again. The ads continue. While I hope at some point it stops (without forcing a payment) I think if most people can look past that, the LIT HERO action cam from GoPro is a great product.

So I’ve been using this little guy for a couple weeks now and I need to share my thoughts on the new GoPro LIT HERO. I’ve had a good and frustrating time with it so far, but the good outweighs the bad for sure. For reference, I am newer to action cameras. I have had a couple of “off-brand” cameras that I found adequate for my needs at the time. First off, the "LIT" part isn't just a catchy name; this little guy will help you out if you’ve always struggled with older GoPros when the sun starts to set. Now the light is fairly bright, but only effective at a close range. It will blind someone if they are looking at the camera but it isn’t going to light your way on a bike trail when it’s pitch black out. I did find it useful with a chest strap on a night trail run. It would be a pricey flashlight so I wouldn’t get it just for that but it was a nice bonus for me as an avid runner, especially with the sun setting around 5pm now. So I mentioned I’ve had fun and frustration. The frustration came in with the Micro SD card. Most manufacturers give guidelines and recommendations on what types of storage cards their device needs and this is one that you must follow. When I got my GP LIT I just popped in a micro sd card I had sitting around. It had a U3 rating and GoPro said it needs to be at least V30. I looked it up and most of what I found said U3 and V30 were both the same speed, so I assumed it would work. It did work, until it didn’t. Then nothing worked right. The touch screen was not responsive, it wouldn’t take pics or video, it just wouldn’t function at all. I had a chat with customer service and they helped me understand the “U” and “V” ratings are very much different. With their help, I was able to obtain a proper micro sd card and it has worked flawlessly ever since. Since I got the right card, the touch screen is incredibly responsive. Photo and Video functions are working properly, and the app connection is quick, easy and quite useful. I’ve never had an app like the GoPro Quik app before. It is very handy to be able to view my photos and videos without taking out the micro sd, finding an adapter, and firing up my laptop. The touchscreen is also very intuitive and easy to use. The battery life has been great so far. I let it sit for a few days and it went from 95% to 90%, which is pretty good I’d say. I haven’t used it for any really long periods of time but with what I’ve used it for, I think I wouldn’t have any reservations about using it on a long hike or run. I also just want to make sure everyone understands that this is newer than, but not an full upgrade to the numbered HERO series. For example, if you have a HERO 11 or 12, the LIT does not have functions on it like, horizon lock or leveling, different digital lenses (hyperview, superview, etc), or a front LCD. What you do get in the LIT is a smaller, lighter weight 4K camera that is still waterproof, high quality and a lot of fun. Overall, this is a perfect action camera for me, a high-quality entry level device to help capture my trail running, biking, hiking, and SUP adventures. I am trying to get away to Mexico next month and If I can I’ll bring the LIT HERO snorkeling with me. Really, for around $250 I think you get a lot.

This is my first GoPro, and as a newbie user I’d say setting it up was pretty straightforward. The instructions were easy to follow, though you do need to download the GoPro Quik app to update the camera the first time using it. You also need to link it to your phone. That part went quick and smoothly. The camera itself is super compact and light and easy to carry around. The built-in light has three brightness levels which is handy whether you're filming in daylight or low light. Tried it at night with some lighting at the park and the video footage was amazingly bright using the built-in light. It’s got four simple capture modes: 16:9 video, 4:3 video, slo-mo, and 12MP photo. Switching between them is quick and intuitive on either the touchscreen display or on the app. The 4K video quality is sharp, and you can grab stills from your footage and easily edit using the app. It says it is waterproof up to 16 feet, although I haven’t tried submerging it under water I’m glad I don’t have to worry bringing this camera to our beach excursions in the summer. One cool feature I appreciate is it uploads your clips to the cloud while charging, it is really a nice touch because you don’t have to worry saving your clips manually. I think battery life is pretty decent, after a few photos and video footages, the battery has decreased about half the charge from a full charge. Overall, the GoPro Lit Hero 4K action camera is easy to use and worth checking out if you’re in the market for it. Price point is good too.

I received the Go Pro Lit Hero and got the opportunity to test it out. The biggest new feature is the front face light. Being a Go Pro 12 owner, I wanted to see how it would compare. The Lit Hero is considerably smaller than the 12. It’s also lighter. One thing to know is that it has an internal, non replaceable battery. It seems like it will last about 45 mins to an hour of recording. Depending on how much you use the front light. If you’re looking to buy a Go Pro for longer filming sessions that would need multiple batteries then this may not be the Go Pro for you. The image stabilization is only in the app, not a feature on the Go Pro itself like on the 12. I want to give a warning. The front facing light is BRIGHT. Like really bright. There’s actually three levels of brightness. The first is bright enough to make you appear clear and lit up. Make sure you don’t look directly into brightness level three. You’ll see stars. I was able to take the camera trick or treating. I’ve included a couple no light/ light on photos so you can see how well it lights up your surroundings. You can also use the light without the camera being on which is great if you’re outdoors at night. If you need a Go Pro to record high quality videos that’s capable to getting night/low lighting videos, then I’d highly recommend the Lit Hero. I don’t think it would fit everyone’s recording need with the battery limitations, so decide how you’re going to use the camera before purchasing.

Amazing GoPro cam. I was amazed at how tiny it is however it packs a punch. Inside the package they include the camera itself a helmet mount and a small plastic cover for the flash LEDs (here is my only con about the camera, this one is not attached to the camera in any way, they should have provided like a little cable or lanyard so it stays with the cam, I feel its going to be lost soon...). You open the little door on the side that reveals the type C USB charging port and the Micro SD port. They do not include a Micro SD card, you must get your own and it must be of a V30 class speed minimum, or the camera will complain and won't let you use slower ones, since its capable of shooting at 4k60 resolution. It can also shoot slow mo and take 12mpx pictures. The flash is nice and has 3 levels of brightness for dusk and night, its very bright. It can take videos on full 4:3 format, video (wide), they say timelapse is coming soon, I guess with a software update. When you pair it with their app, it adds stabilization to the videos, I guess the camera itself doesn't do that, and its done on a software side I guess, however videos are very stable and not shaky at all. If you subscribe to their Premium plan, you get cloud storage and the camera can auto upload your media to it, you also get two free replacements if your camera gets damaged. If you don't subscribe, you can still use the camera, only difference is you will have to take out the SD card to check your videos. I love that the camera lens is replaceable (since this is an action camera, its prone to some damage so this is great) and has already built in water resistance up to 16 feet, so no need to get those plastic covers (unless you are going deeper I guess). The bottom holds your typical threaded standard hole for mounts however it also has a magnetic mount and the ones you insert those long screws (for this one, the flaps can lay down flush and you can get them out for this mount method). Battery life has been great too, I had it fully charged in the morning and when fishing with my friends and there was still battery left by the end of day (of course YMMV depending of how long you shoot, if you use the flash or not etc). Definitely a big upgrade, specially when you consider how tiny it is!!!

The GoPro Lit Hero is a perfect companion camera for my on the go lifestyle. The camera captures fantastic action sequences and gives me the compact size to keep in a pocket or bag for immediate usage and captures. The 4K video capture is very crisp and clear with it's 4K60 video. the bright LED front facing light allows for nice lighting of my subject in low light conditions. The built in light allows for 3 levels of brightness so it can help in most situations and surroundings. I can shoot in widescreen or vertical format depending on the platform I plan to upload to. This GoPro Lit Hero also doubles as a still camera, a great feature for capturing action and photos as it happens. The device's physical buttons are easy to use and press. It powers on immediately and starts recording, which is fantastic for in-the-moment action sequences when you're already in the flow of your activity. The top button is the shutter button that starts the recordings and also activates instantly. The camera is housed on the top right of the body of the GoPro and has a 12MP sensor with a microphone below it. The LED light is to the left of the camera and has the LED power button below it which is easy to see and operate. This action cam weighs 93 grams, is waterproof to 5m, has a microSD slot, a replacable lens capability, and connects via USB-C. There are 3 video modes to easily choose between, along with a photo capture mode. The video modes are slow motion, 4K video (16:9), and 4K video (4:3). The video stabiilzation on this camera works very well when paired up with the GoPro Quik app. I love using this for content creation video while playing POV volleyball, trail running, and also my 10K road races. The phone connects to the camera via Bluetooth, allowing me to easily transfer new video clips from the GoPro to my phone. From here, I easily distribute new videos to my social media profiles and share them with friends from my photo album. The added feature to this camera is the GoPro subscription that gives you automatic uploads to the cloud which helps to keep the SD card freed up for more exciting footage to be recorded in the future. The subscription adds your photos and videos to the GoPro cloud at 100% quality which gives you access to them across your various devices. And the best part of the available subscription is the guaranteed camera replacement, should you play too hard with your camera and damage it. For me this is a great camera to keep with me at all times. It's a 4K video shooting camera that has it's own built in LED light. The camera is easy to use and pairs well for functionality with the GoPro app. Great camera for starting out with my content creation and family memories.

The GoPro Hero Lit falls into an interesting niche for dedicated cameras. The image quality is decent, but it relies heavily on GoPro’s Quick app for many features. The app pushes hard for users to subscribe to GoPro’s cloud service which allows for automated back ups as well as AI driven editing in the cloud. It’s a cheaper version of the company’s flagship Hero Black line of cameras, but you give us much with this model. The Good: Hero Lit carries over the best of what makes GoPro the go-to brand for action cameras. It’s very light, yet still includes both the magnetic mount found on current Hero Blacks along with the folding mount which is used with all dedicated GoPro accessories. I have some that I’d gotten to use with a Hero 5 camera and they worked fine with the new GoPro Lit. It’s easy to use with one button to start a video, even without turning it on first. There’s a built in light which dramatically improves the picture quality within 10 feet of the camera. The built in battery lasted about 2 hours of recording. The less good: Timelapse is not currently available. Their site indicates it’s “coming soon” via a firmware update. Many other features from the Hero Black are missing altogether for 30% more (~$150), there’s a lot of “nice to have” features which were left out of the Herno Lit. These include: Built-in GPS location. 480 fps slo-mo vs 60 fps slo-mo on the Lit Higher video & photo resolution In camera video stabilization. The Lit stabilization is done in the app and must be exported if you want to do desktop editing. Larger sensor Hyperlapse video recording Front LCD - Makes for easier framing for a selfie shot. There a lot of competition in this market, including from the phone already in your pocket. For the same money, you could get a gimbal with a light for your phone which will give similar smooth shots along with other benefits. If you need an action camera for just a couple of trips, it may be worth it, but most people should consider spending the extra amount and get the Hero Black.

First off be sure you have the right micro SD card, the first one I had wasn't big enough, then I bought one but it wasn't fast enough. Be sure it's a A2/V30 at minimum. Once inserted the gopro will automatically format the card. Download the GoPro Quick app and link the GoPro up to your phone. It comes with a few mount options and a usb-c charging cable. The small touch screen is pretty cool. You can control most of the options there and the remainder in the app. There are a few buttons on the device; power, the light (which has 3 levels of brightness) and the action button. The light is decent, maybe best used for closer shots. But it's great in a pinch. The camera is very compact and easy to use. The stabilization is top quality and impressed me. The camera has a fish eye lense and I couldn't find an option to adjust it. There is a lense protector that's easily replaceable. This is a sweet compact camera that you can easily toss into your pocket and take anywhere with you. I ordered a screen protector for it as well. Excited about new products that will come out to accompany it.

I was attracted to the GoPro LIT action camera because of its compact size and price. It literally fits in the palm of my hand. After using it I think it is a good option to toss in my bag for casual pictures and footage. It does everything well but is going to be primarily an adjunct to my other options - not a replacement. I'm ok with that because I feel that it is priced exactly for that use. The camera has several pros. This might sound trivial but this is my first GoPro that let me access the MicroSD and charging ports without breaking my fingernails off! The access door is easy to open and can even be removed. Overall first impressions were very good. Setup was easy and quick. The firmware update was uneventful and brought a ton of additional functionality. The GoPro Quik App is very comprehensive and mirrors the in-camera controls. The touchscreen is tiny but is responsive and uses familiar tap and swipe gestures. The suite of voice commands are convenient and pretty comprehensive but can be problematic in noisy environments. The feature that distinguishes this action camera are a set of unbelievably bright LED lights. You can use them for shooting in low-light or even as an emergency flashlight! I can imagine a few fringe cases where you might be lowering the camera down into a dark location BUT, even with the included diffuser and the ability to choose between three levels of brightness, you would not use this to illuminate another person. It's just TOO bright! Also, as you would expect, it eats up the battery. Overall picture and video quality are good. The ability to shoot in slo-mo via the 4k 60fps mode is a plus! Just be aware that you're going to have to use the app to access much of the functionality. For example - HyperSmooth Video Stabilization requires the app - it is NOT performed or viewable in the camera. There are a few cons - The camera gets hot while charging or during extended hi-res video shoots. The touchscreen can be a bit finicky when it is wet but you can use the power button to switch modes and the shutter button to turn on and start recording (QuikCapture) so you don't have to use the screen or the app. Overall I think this is a reasonable option especially if this is your first action camera. It is solidly built, rugged, lightweight and can use the GoPro family of options for securely attaching it in a variety ways.

A Solid Beginner Camera with Some Limitations

The Lit Hero comes in a compact and straightforward package since the camera itself is quite small. Inside, you’ll find a USB-C to USB-C cable, a rubber lens cover, and a single helmet mount with 3M adhesive. One thing to note: the battery is built-in and not removable, which might be inconvenient for some users. The box also includes a quick setup guide with a QR code that directs you to download the companion app. When you power on the Hero Lit, it comes pre-charged to about 60%, but you’ll need to top it off eventually. The setup process starts with selecting your language, and you won’t be able to proceed until the app is installed. Once downloaded, you’ll need to update the GoPro software to the latest version, which takes around five minutes. After completing the update, you’re ready to start using the GoPro Hero Lit. My first impression while recording was that the video resolution wasn’t as sharp as expected. I double-checked to confirm it was set to 4K mode, it was but the quality still seemed slightly off. I experimented with other modes like 4:3 video, Slo-Mo, and Photo, yet the sharpness didn’t quite improve. I also tried transferring several clips directly to my phone via wireless connection but saw no difference. Aside from the video resolution, the GoPro includes its standard stabilization feature; however, it only applies after you download the videos to the app, where the stabilization is processed automatically. The camera’s audio performance is impressive. The built-in microphone captures clear, detailed sound. The camera’s integrated light offers three brightness levels, and the highest setting is very bright, ideal for camping or low-light environments. As expected, the Hero Lit is compatible with GoPro’s extensive range of mounts and accessories, which can be purchased separately. There’s also a cloud storage option available through a GoPro subscription that automatically uploads your footage when connected to Wi-Fi, though it comes at an additional cost. Overall, the GoPro Hero Lit is a solid entry-level camera for beginners or those who enjoy casual outdoor activities like fishing or camping. However, if you’re looking for top-tier video resolution or professional-grade performance, this model might not be the best fit.

This camera feels like it has two very specific niche use-cases. A good enough GoPro for someone wanting to try it out (Christmas present for a teenager) or for low light purposes like attached to an under-carriage or other similar situations. Overall with a 12mp photo resolution, the quality is very different from most GoPro footage that you see online. However this tradeoff means a lower cost and probably something you’re more likely to take into a jungle, underwater on vacation, etc… That is my main use case in vacation situations where I want to keep the phone locked away and not worry about losing it or dropping it. Couple of notes: The fisheye effect is permanent, the lighting is very bright close up so it somewhat overwhelms as a selfie video camera, but the fact that you get a waterproof camera that you can just throw in your pocket is awesome for the price. Startup is simple and requires downloading the app as it needs an update right away. There’s enough battery life to accomplish that upon opening but I threw it on the charger anyways just to let it fully charge. Personally I like anchoring this into water and using the light to let it illuminate for a longer length video to see just what’s happening down below.

Uhm. This isn’t the GoPro quality I’m familiar with. They usually make stellar little action cameras that takes the guess work out of everything, but I feel that this Lit is quite dim for GoPro. First off the light is absolutely unnecessary. A gimmick from beginning to end. The quality of any footage used with the light is, in my opinion, horrible. Maybe there are a few circumstances for some, maybe more amateur/ beginner creatives, in which this could be useful. I think it is too harsh even with a diffuser. It’s blinding for anyone who looks towards the camera. I simply don’t like it. Or it’s just not useful for what I use action cameras for. Maybe good for action shots in the depths of night, or selfies in a closet. I think it’s time that all GoPros at this point are made standard with a front screen. If they’re unwilling to add a front screen as a standard on all GoPros because of costs and budget, at least improve the video quality and maybe the user interface from one budget version to the next. The Lit also missed the mark for me on video quality. If you’re new to GoPro then you’ll find yourself stuck with a decision to use their app Quik, there you will have to use their basic editing features, or be thrown into another subscription to do things like, use their premium editing software. If not, the editing features are excruciatingly limited. The touchscreen interface again is limited. Not many options, settings or changes can be made from the camera itself. Just to be clear, you don’t have to use their app, but of course that’s what GoPro recommends. The footage doesn’t seem to be stabilized in camera, but when it’s loaded into the app. Or simply put use another post edit software. This is PERFECT for beginner users, and that’s ok. You can just plug and play essentially and it works great for that. Not much to think about. Not many buttons or settings to change and therefore it is the best choice. It’s not the best, but it’s not the worst. But if you really want to make the most out of action shots or have a bit more of experience I would skip this version entirely.

I was extremely excited to receive my new GoPro LIT Hero as I have only owned one prior GoPro camera and really loved it however it was one of their first models & has quite a bit of age on it at this point. Prior to receiving the LIT Hero I did not do much research at all on it therefore I did not really know what to expect. Upon arriving & unboxing I was impressed by the compact size, it is small enough to carry anywhere with you and will fit in almost anything fairly easily. Beyond being impressed by the size there was really not much more that had me thinking or saying wow. I am not quite sure what the exact issue was but it took me forever to finally get the app on my phone to recognize the camera. Then I attempted to install the SD card, because if you don't it was not letting me proceed any further with the setup. Well, I went through 3 micro SD's that I had and none of them would work. I finally had to purchase a new one per the list of reccomended cards in the manual. This finally worked and allowed me to finally access the camera functions and menu's. This is where I was left extremely unimpressed. Some of the options in the menu do not illuminate to be able to click on them & I am not sure why. Then there are other options I can click on but when I do they do not seem to have an effect on anything. The camera's clarity leaves alot to be desired and the build quality is not what I remember from GoPro in the past. The light is nice but honestly it is actually too bright, soo much so that I can not look into the camera without being blinded. The fact that there is not a front facing display is also dissapointing. Overall, it is an okay unit that can be used for things but I would spend the extra money to have a model that is more functional.

Feels artificially limited in its settings in software, but the little light on it works well for my purposes. It's less expensive if you lose one of these than the current Black versions.
