Great when it works as it should

We purchased this item from Best Buy on Jan 5, 2018. It does a great job when it works correctly, with one pretty significant exception - the pressure valve doesn't work as it's supposed to. In the instructions, it tells you to align the pressure valve with the Airtight arrow before turning on the power and selecting a cooking cycle. However, on our unit, when you do that, it still spits hot steam out of the valve and never comes up to the proper cooking pressure (so the cooking cycle never fully starts). The work around for this is that you have to twist the valve around until you find what seems to be a random spot where it stops spitting hot steam. Once you do this, it cooks perfectly; however, I feel that is a very unsafe work-around because as you're twisting the valve, it's spitting hot steam on your hand. We've used it probably 10 times since we bought it, and it's been that way since the first use. After talking with friends who have InstaPots, we discovered this isn't the way an electric pressure cooker should work and is unsafe. I have contacted Gourmia support to get a resolution. Depending on how they reply, I'll update this review. When we do get the pressure valve in the proper position and the steam stops spitting out, the cooker works wonders - foods are delicious cooked in this, and we still can't believe how quickly it cooks items. We love the concept, but we wish we spent more for an InstaPot that doesn't have this issue.

I will preface this by saying I never even had the opportunity to use this item. I was very excited to receive it after I ordered it through my Best Buy mobile app. I chose site to store because that was the fastest option. I picked it up and rushed home to unbox what I thought would be my new multi-cooker. Wrong! To my disappointment there was a deep scrape penetrating the nonstick finish. I took the item back to Best Buy thinking it was a fluke and ordered an exchange. The second unit arrived and it too had a scratch on the nonstick finish although certainly not as alarming so I thought "hey give it once more shot after all you did get a crazy good sales price". Third unit arrives at Best Buy so I go to the store for pick up. This time I inspect it in store and once again great disappointment is achieved because it also had a damaged inner finish. Bottom line I can't put faith in the electrical, mechanical and logic components if the quality cannot be controlled on the manufacturing and inspection processes relating to the cooking surface. We all have to vote with our wallet and trust our gut instinct. I would suggest proceeding with caution.

Used it twice then E4 message

Purchased the Gourmia GPC800 8 Qt pressure cooker January 22, 2018. Used it twice and on January 27th, it stopped working displaying an E4 message (signal switch malfunction). The first time I used it to make chili, it was okay and the second time I made chicken, rice and brocolli and it came out great after i kinda figured out how to use it. There’s really no info on how to use the Gourmia pressure cooker on the internet so i was trying to guess what setting to put it on. The third time I tried to cook artichokes and it wouldn’t cook it right and then displayed the message E4. Had to finish it on the stove almost 1 hour later. I unplugged it and let it sit 2 days to see if it would reset. I tried making spaghetti in it today and E4 happened again. Will return it to the store and possibly get an instant pot instead since there’s unlimited info on how to use them and tons of recipes. Not sure if it’s a good product or not since it only worked twice for me then died. Plus with the lack of info and limited pressure settings I will not buy it again. Looks like a well built machine but didn’t even make a week before it stopped working.

Most of these electric pressure cookers are very similar in appearance and features. I made this purchase a week ago and decided it worked just fine. Now was time to purchase a few “consumable “ items such as a spare sealing ring gasket and a float seal. Looked on Best Buy site … not parts listed for this brand. Looked on Amazon, no parts listed for this brand. Look in the operator’s manual, no parts listed. Looked on the Gourmia website no parts listed, Called the company, they indicated the only way to get parts was to call them and they will send you an email link that results in their sales department calling you and taking the order information over the phone. A person in NY with a very bad attitude takes your credit card information while at the same time makes you feel as though you are interrupting their day.

We bought the Gourmia Pressure Cooker as a Mothers' Day gift for my wife, but it has turned into an incredible gift for the whole family. I have been astounded by the huge number of easy recipes we have found to make everything from Fettucine Alfredo to Pot Roast, usually with everything just thrown into the cooker with minimal prep. Things that formerly took twenty to thirty minutes to cook by traditional methods are done in five or six minutes. The pot roast that used to slow cook for six hours or more? Now it's done in forty minutes. It is incredible! The device itself is quiet, sits on a countertop and safely runs from a single plug. The lid and pressure release are set up so that it is very difficult to burn yourself with steam. Cleanup is super-easy; a quick rinse of the no-stick pot and a scrub with just a dot of dish detergent leaves it perfectly spotless. We just dry the pot out and put it back in the cooker, ready for the next meal. The control scheme takes a few minutes to puzzle out and many of the recipes you will find online are written for a competing brand, InstaPot, but with a little practice you will have no trouble interpreting them for a Gourmia Smart Pot.

Cuts cooking time in half or more. Meats come out juicy, not dried out. Cooks everything in one pot at one time. There are 1000's of pressure cooker recipes out there. Read the manual on how to control the unit and then you can use any pressure cooker recipe. Two complaints and the reason for 4 out of 5 stars. 1) Each menu button has a limit on how long the timer can be set for. For instance, if you want to cook a chicken dish for 5 mins, you have to use the steam menu button because poultry won't allow you to cook for less than 8 mins. Very aggravating having to figure out which menu button to use when you want to cook outside the pre-programmed time limits. 2) Customer service was never open when I needed to talk to them. I am continuing to learn new ways to cook with this unit and so far everything has come out perfect. Plus it's very easy to clean once you're done.

I was not really looking for a pressure cooker until this showed up on Best Buy's Deal of the Day. This is a fairly large cooker and it is very easy to use. My only gripe is that I want more recipes. The cooker comes with a small cookbook and instructions on cooking most foods. However some of the recipes say "Cook" the food and there is not a "Cook" option. The instructions are not the easiest to follow however once you learn how the cooker works, its a great item. The food is delicious, moist, and done at a fraction of the time. I have not tried the crock pot feature yet but looking forward to it. One of my favorite dishes is risotto and it cooked in about 6min! I gave a 4 rating instead of 5 due to there not being a standard cook button/setting and it takes some getting used to.

Bought this on sale for my first pressure cooker. Good generic quick settings. Warm up time until count down is around 15 minutes. The LED screen is not very intuitive. When I first started it I didn’t know if it was working or if it errored because it just started blinking. Well, it was warming up. Found that on some YouTube video. Then when it’s done it says ‘bb’ ..... um what is that? I still don’t know, but it means done and on warm. The meat setting is vague. 6 lb roast took about 2 hours not the 20-30 minutes as the cookbook or preset uses. In the end I think it’s a cook lil cooker for the on sale price. Everything I have made has turned out good. You just have to get used to the timing and seasoning/water ratios. They are a little different than cooking using other methods. It does save some time.

I have used pressure cookers all my life, but only the non-electric kind. After seeing a resurgence on recipe sites of pressure cooker use, I decided to try an electric one. I have been very happy so far with my decision and the only reason I didn't give this thing 5 stars is that the cord is so short. During the holidays, I had two crock pots, the oven and my pressure cookers all going at the same time and I wanted to use the pressure cooker on my table instead of on the counter, because the counters were all occupied with other things, but the cord was too short to reach from the table to the outlet on the wall. It would be perfect if this thing came with a retractable cord that was a couple of feet longer like my old rice cooker did.

The Gourmia pressure pot is very impressive! I love everything about it, the only reason I give it a 4 Star is because the instructions aren’t really helpful as far as if you want to just cook with a set time without having to choose a certain cooking setting. You can’t just pick the + or - and add time you have to pick meat, chicken, soup etc and non of them will count down to 1,2,3,4 minutes except steam. So if the recipe calls for 3 minutes to cook you have to pick steam which sounds just wrong to me to cook steel cut oats. Everything else I’ve cooked has turned out awesome & and better than the old way I used to cook the same old recipes and I’ve been cooking for 30+ years

I made pulled pork in the pot the day after I received it. 12.5 lbs of pork to be exact! And I can’t believe how easy it was compared to my usual routine. The pork cooked incredibly fast, 70 minutes, and tastes amazing! The pork just fell apart for me as I was putting bbq sauce in it. It would’ve taken a full day or more to cook that much pork my usual way. The pressure cooker was super easy to clean also. I then made corn on the cob after and that took 8 mins for 6 ears of corn! And it was the best taste I’ve had with corn!! I highly recommend this pressure cooker to anyone looking to decrease cooking times. I love it.

Made great chili; chicken with chutney and getting ready to make wild rice salad. I've found it easy to use and I only have one pot to clean at the end. What could be better than that!! Looking forward to making more of the recipes that came with the cooker and I can't wait to buy another cookbook that has recipes for a multi-cooker and try them. It was worth the $$$ and it is worth the time needed to prep the foods and put into the pot and FORGET IT!! So far everything has been delicious and this cooker just may make me look forward to cooking.

I heard everyone talking about the joys of a pressure cooker so I started looking for one. This was on sale for $50 so I decided to try it out. I'm glad that I did. Bought it in July. A week hasn't gone by where I don't use it at least twice. I saw reviews about the insecure exhaust which is a issue I had. I tightened the bolt and it hasn't been a problem since. That's the only thing I took a star for. It's been easy to use for what I do. I even throw frozen food in it, push the button and walk away. It cooked pinto beans in under an hour. It has made preparing dinner so much easier.

Purchased this about a month ago & we've used it almost every evening for dinner. I had heard good things about pressure cooker but didn't realize they were this fast & easy & we've barely scratched the surface. We have made ribs a couple times and you can't even hardly pick the ribs up because they try to fall apart on you. Every food item that we have cooked in it has been so moist & full of flavor. We like it so much we will be giving these out as gifts to friends & relatives in the near future. I would definitely recommend this. If you decide to get this I would recommend at least the 8 quart.

I bought this online and had them about a week ago but never opened to use. Yesterday i opened the package and took the pot out for first use and notice the pot was damaged badly on the side and on the cap. Straight up return it tomorrow for sure. Bad experience shopping online with bestbuy for a very first time. Please bestbuy before you package the product, make sure its new and never use as described.

I had intended to purchase a 6 quart instant pot, which was out of stock. Then my husband and I found this one, there was no display but it was an eight port for the same price as the instant pot 6 quart. So we decided to get it. The box itself was also in Norma’s, but I figured it had a lot of Styrofoam packing and such. When we pulled it out Love the box, I literally started to laugh (for real) thinking where in the world am I going to store this?! I had to return it, and never used it. It Might be a fabulous pot, but definitely only for people with a ton of family or guests to cook for.

An old 6Qt Cuisinart served the purpose well for 3 years. Originally got for 70$. My wife dropped the lid and it cracked in the plastic. IT is working but we thought we will go for a larger one this time. Got this at 49.99$ price after seeing the reviews. It is far more confusing. It takes 12 mins to build pressure?? Cooking rice spews out steam and water around like anything. Please save time and get another brand.... I would recommend this to an enemy....

I bought this to try and make cooking easier and faster. So I found that it does help but you really have to still plan because even though the machine states that it can make a meal in 20 min, it takes 10-20 min just to pressurize so add that "cook time" to your plans. I have made a few different meals in it. The best was a seafood pot. I cooked the potatoes and corn first then added the shrimp for 3 min cook, otherwise you get hard/mushy shrimp if that makes any sense. Overall it is great to use instead of having to wait.

This pressure cooker is one of the best on the market. This pressure cooker is amazing. It's controls are designed to make using the pressure cooker simple, and easy. I was able to use it with no prior experience. Even better It cleans like a charm. I was skeptical about using a pressure cooker, but I'm so happy I did because this is a great appliance. It has cut my cooking times down significantly. If you want to cook rice, beef, chicken in a more precise shorter time, you need to get this cooker.

Can't beat it for the price I got it for, $49. It has some minor flaws. The maximum time that is allowed to cook is 99 minutes. Some things need to cook longer then that, like bone broth. You can side step this buy just adding additional time at the end of the cycle. All the things we have made have turned out great though. The pot itself is non-stick and very easy to clean. The trivet that came with it is too small imho. I just bout a larger one to put in it.
