    Somewhat regretful

Before I begin my review on this game I’m just going to state my credibility when it comes to the Gran Turismo series. I’ve put in tens of thousands of hours into this series since the first release in 1998 and currently playing the life out of the beta. You’re most likely wondering why the heck my review summary seems so negative and before you even read this review you will just smash the “unhelpful” button. Calm down, I’ll explain why “I’m” feeling regretful, regretful of preordering Gran Turismo Sport! For almost a year or whenever I heard this was going to be released I’ve been expecting a racing game that I know I’d love, for PS4, since I don’t own an Xbox One and a copy of Forza. I’ve been pumped up and impatient for its release because it’s going to give me something to do instead of playing boring old Call of Duty. So to answer the question as to why I’m feeling regretful for preordering GTS and not just spending $200 on an Xbox One and $60 for a copy of Forza, it’s because the LACK of cars in GTS! We’ve always had a variety of cars in Gran Turismo and so many variants as well. So to only be getting 162 cars, and the majority of them being clones or boring touring cars, I am sure every car enthusiast will bury themselves in their own grave and turn in it. Why did the developers put 5 different GTR models in the Nissan category? Why not put along with it a 300zx, 350z, 280 and so on. Same with every other manufacturer; We won’t be getting the beloved Supra, S2000, R34, Silvias, Sis’, good old muscle cars; none of that fun stuff and absolutely no variety. The car list is extremely disappointing and I sadly will still get the game in hopes that they will add so many more variety of cars for all car lovers and not this generic list of clones. So for the final review out of 5: Gameplay - 4 (so much to do in arcade and campaign and looking forward to the multiplayer. There is a lot of ways to earn money and score to upgrade your cars; as well as daily challenges etc...) Graphics - 4 (not as fancy looking as in the trailers of the game but nonetheless beautiful) Car List – 0 (pretty much my review explains it, and if you play the beta you’ll understand) Tracks – 5 (didn’t play all the tracks but the current ones look amazing and looking forward to driving all 28) Menu – 5 (from buying cars, upgrading them, dealership, news, taking pictures and so much more, I was pleased and felt spoiled by how much there is to do in the game other than race) Overall – 3 ( I love this series and look forward to playing the heck out of Gran Turismo Sport because it is and can be extremely fun in so many of way, and until more cars are added into the game I won’t be fully satisfied. One way to fix it is to either sell DLC’s or concurringly add cars into the game.)

Gran Turismo dropped the ball on this one

Growing up, I played all the GT games. I looked forward to this game since the first trailer back in 2015. This is one of the main reasons why I got the PS4 was for anticipation for how great of a driving simulator this was going to be. I loved Gran Turismo 5 and 6 and loved the variety of cars it had to offer along with many famous world circuits. It seemed like the game was getting so advanced. It was neat to see the graphics of this game evolutionize along with changing weather conditions. Going into the future. I thought I would be excited for this release. This is coming from a long time Racing game person who likes to feel how realistic the controls are and making racing and time trails as difficult as possible. To start off, arcade is only available when offline. I’m not able to get a internet connection where I live so you are limited to just arcade only with only select cars and only 5 tracks. Theses tracks are GT made and don’t even consist of real circuits. And that is it. It even says on the back of the package, “online play optional”. This is very misleading. All the games I have that say this are completely functional without online play meaning that you can campaign within the game and complete it to it’s full functionality capabilities. This is a 60gb hardware space needed game on the console. Why does it take up so much space if 99% is network required? All in all, I’m not sure how this could be a step forward. This is a huge disappointment coming from someone who looked forward to playing these games for many many years and now I won’t be able to play it. Sorry Gran Turismo, you dropped it big time on this one. You lost a big fan here.

o enjoy this game, one has to first manage his expectation. First of all, this is not Gran Turismo 7. Many of the negative reviews wrongly assume that this is the successor of GT 5/6, which is not the case. This is the on-line, competitive, multi-player version of Gran Turismo. Secondly, while the off-line single player elements is being significantly reduced, you can still enjoy the game off-line in Arcade and Training mode. Right now, there is a limited selection of tracks and cars but more will be added via free updates. The game has recently received an update with more off-line content. The game now includes GT League, which is a much requested feature. Personally, i would take most of the negative comments with a grain of salt. These so call 'Long Time Gran Turismo Fan' did not even realized that this game is marketed as an on-line racer right from the beginning? There is no reason condemning a game for what it is not. Would anyone give World of Warcraft, one star all because it is not a real time strategy game? They do share a part of the same title, don't they? While the release may felt rushed and the lack of off-line content may be disappointing, the developer has been quick to address some of the issues and has even gone so far as to promise all free DLC. The game has already received its major update and there will be more to come in the following year. Believe me, there are still a lot of things to do off-line. Perfecting your time trial on each and every one of the tracks will take up a huge chunk of your life. Before you even realize it, the next update will be just round the corner. That said, the game is polished and enjoyable. Controls on the DualShock controller is top-notched. Graphics are phenomenal and more importantly the races, both online and offline, are fun and challenging. If you love racing game this holiday season is a great time to grab your copy at a discounted price.

One of the best racing sims out there, but...

I played a lot of racing sims over the last 20+ years. Started with Sega Rally, went through multiple F1's, Forza's, etc. But somehow, the Gran Turismo series always felt special. Maybe it was the superior physics which made driving cars in GT games more realistic than others, maybe it was the sheer number of available options, from racing small, lightweight K-cars, to LeMans super-vehicles, maybe it was something else... I'm not sure. Approaching GT Sport I knew it was focused on multiplayer - online racing. I knew there were less cars than in competitive games. I knew that online reviewers claimed other games had superior realism. Nevertheless - I chose a PS4 over XBox in large part due to Gran Turismo. The game never disappointed me. It does have a nice selection of cars spread across multiple classes/groups and brands. It does have great-looking tracks. It has nice realism of driving (especially on a Logitech G29 racing wheel, which I bought specifically for this game). It does give you a great feeling of accomplishment when you finish that "perfect race", or even a "perfect lap". The only problem with it is, from my perspective, that it does not excel above all others in any one significant category. Among racing sims there are better-looking games, there are more realistic games, there are more fun multiplayer games, etc. - you get where I'm going. While overall this is a great game and it'll give you hours of fun, regardless of whether you play online or offline (the latter after a few updates), it left me with the slight feeling of wanting something more. Plus, my 13yo daughter seems to have really liked playing it. :)

I hesitate to even call GT4 a game. I'm new to a game system. Haven't had one for probably 20 years. Picked up a new PS4 and bought GT4 with it. I knew everything has gotten much more advanced but playing it on my 65" Samsung SUHD TV is amazing! Now all I have to do is hone my driving skills. I've never raced cars in real life but I have raced motorcycles for years. I'm familiar with how a car reacts to inputs and the basics of high speed driving tactics. To make the game realistic, the controls are touchy but they have to be. The game has a driving school that teaches you how to control the car from a very basic starting point. The school has you using different cars (from a Mazda Miata to a Bugatti Veyron) so you can become familiar with the different abilities of the different cars. This is where you realize how realistic the game is. If you push a car too hard going into a corner too fast, under braking the front end starts losing traction and starts drifting to the outside line. You can feel how some cars have better driving characteristics (better brakes, better acceleration, worse understeer, etc, etc) You earn points/rewards as you accumulate miles and tasks as well as earning new race cars that you keep in your garage. You can alter the driving characteristics of the cars if you want to. The game is definitely one that lets you learn and grow as your skills increase along with your equipment. You can even customize the paint scheme as well as your driving suit and helmet. If you get bored with this game, its because you haven't used all its resources available to you. You can race with other drivers online. I'm extremely impressed how realistic they've been able to make the cars work! I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

I ACTUALLY PLAYED THE GAME (BETA)

So unlike most of the reviews here I actually played in the Beta a few months back. As a longtime GT player I was excited to be in the beta. I can only give so much information. First I will start with the Pro: New next gen GT yey! cars drive similar to past iterations. physics models are similar, suspension tuning is still there along with Diff adjustments torque diff settings ect ect. this will be a 80/20% version where 80% is going to be online hence the name Gran Turismo Sport means it's going to work towards esports. The in between: Love playing this beta, they did patch the beta early on to only let you race online instead of arcade. the races only happened at certain times of the day, and this will most likely change. the beta had access to about 4 different class cars. low HP, mid/ high mid and supercar. but long gone are the 10 different versions of Skylines and Miata's :( The Cons I look forward to this as a more competitive Gt but I really with they would have made the campaign a larger piece of this game. that's not to say the might work on some DLC. the idea that they are going to have a ton of cars is gone. there won't be 1000 cars but more like 200ish IIRC. I'm excited for it but really wish this was going to be more like previous titles. However I will still 99% be pre-ordering this. I have confidence that it will keep me entertained for a very long time. the Beta left me feeling like ok this is a new direction, but I'm ok with it. I think it does need some new features/play styles.

First off - if you do not want to race online against other people you likely should skip this title. That is 80% of what it is. Or wait until you can get it for very cheap. This is not the GT games of the past with 1k cars and turbo mods. There are only 150 cars and it is about racing online with real people and racing clean... for me this is actually a positive. Now if you like to race online this game has a great system to match you with racers who race at the same level as you (if there are enough people to race with) and it has a sportsmanship rating so you get ranked higher for racing clean. Promoting clean racing is nice. The graphics are very good. Best in class for consoles or tied equally with others. The FFB for wheels is pretty good - but the latest patch today reduced it a little but it is still pretty good. Better than project cars, but not as good as Assetto Corsa. The could improve the options for camera views, but they have the exact same views they have always had but with new fancy cockpits. Really wish they had a proper dash cam added or FOV adjustment but hey.. this is Gran Turismo and PD have always been off in their own world doing things their way. Overall I am really enjoying it and play each day if I can.

Can a game be too realistic?

I've been a fan of Gran Turismo titles for many years and am impressed by Gran Turismo Sport as a driving simulator, but am less impressed by it as a racing game. The graphics are crisp and the cars and environments are extremely realistic and beautiful. However, the gameplay takes a step back as compared to the graphics. Using a standard PS4 controller make turning very jerky, which I'm not sure would be better using a steering wheel controller. Finding reverse when you nose into a wall can be extremely frustrating as well. Menus are overloaded with too much information and even on a 55" 4K TV the lettering can be hard to read (or I'm just getting old). The number of tracks and vehicles are limited compared to other car racing titles. There are enough to enjoy the game, but just not as many as I would expect from Sony's flagship racing game. VR mode is AMAZING and makes you feel like you're really in the drivers seat. However, if you do have PlayStation VR connected to your PS4, the graphics suffer a bit because the game will not run in 4K...but it still looks great on a good TV. As much as I enjoy this game, it doesn't stand up to the gameplay and excitement of Forza Motorsport on the XBOX ONE.

A lot of people don’t like that the focus of this game is online racing as opposed to some sort of career mode. No matter how you look at it, it’s still a fun game to play and daily things to do to keep you busy. And there are plenty of cars to choose from. Maybe others are being extra picky with the cars they want as others have said there aren’t many cars but it’s good enough for me. As for customization, this isn’t Need For Speed, but there are some slight modifications you can make like colors, decals, and adjusting the car’s settings to your liking. Also if you enjoy just racing for the fun of it, how can you not like this game. If what this game is, is not what you’re looking, then I guess go and try out project cars or any other game to find what you’re looking for. But if you like the Gran Turismo series of games, you should like this game too. The only thing I would recommend with this game and what I’m considering doing is buying a steering wheel to play this game as I imagine it’s easier to drive your car especially with tight turns. I imagine it would also be easier with using gas and brake pedals instead of just pressing buttons.

This is not a biased review even though I have played this series for years. In fact, I had quit playing once I heard that all progress was being stored on their dedicated servers for this edition. I was not a fan of that at all. I purchased the game for 19.99 along with a 5.00 gift coupon and thought that that was worth trying. I also bought an Xbox and Forza 7 to go with it because Forza (Turn 10)has not gone the way polyphony has gone for GT Sport. However, I do have to say that GT Sport is a vast improvement! The game play is much more disciplined for those looking for a less forgiving racing experience. I love that it is less forgiving and personally enjoy having to improve my driving line for better time around any given track. But I am bummed that none of the in-game progress and cars that I accumulate are saved on my PS4 but on their servers only and that I'll lose it if ever I cancel my PS+. That's why I bought the Xbox with Forza 7 as my "Plan B."

Best Racing SIM on the Market

Other titles claim they are true SIMs. They also claim that GTS is an arcade game. Well, I've played them all and consider myself an expert on the subject because I've spent so much time with them all. Configuring, testing, comparing etc. The fact is, that if you compare them all to GTS, GTS simply IS what other games really want to be. GTS does it all, but takes it to another level. The attention to detail is stunning. The graphics are simply photorealistic. Nothing comes close. And to top it all off, you just launch GTS and everything works. The controls are no nonsense and extremely smooth. There is no fiddling with settings (although you can do that) the force feedback is dialed in already. There is no monkeying with settings to get it to feel right. It already does. If you're a die-hard racing SIM fan, you just can't beat this. Some will debate weather this has an arcade feel or not. But I say, after playing them all, that just fades away and you just simply have a blast with this title, plus all of the other beautiful features keep you busy and always having something to do.

I'll start with the good, graphics and physics are great.... I'm sure online racing against others is good, but not for me. Now to the meat and potatoes... This is a stark departure from previous GT games. It requires being online, even to save the game. No more is the ultra long career mode where you start out from the bottom and build/work your way up, modifying cars, improving them, and racing in single or cup races. Now the game is dumbed down, no solid campaign mode, no detailed car modifications. The game feels like they built it to suit the casual racer, or someone who just wants to race online with friends (requires PSN subscription). If you are looking to relive the fun of previous GT titles in PS4 glory, you wont find it.

Well what can I say. I was so excited about this game release, I couldn't wait for it to be released. I instantly went and bought the game thinking maybe that polyphony actually listened to the customers and really put in some time and effort into making this game really something to be proud of. But instead they half assed it and did nothing. Everything that we have grown to love is now gone. You can't upgrade anything on the cars you can't tune them anywhere what they should be. I've been a huge Gran Turismo fan over the years and I've owned every single version of this game all the way back to the beginning. This has got to be the biggest let down in Gran Turismo history and their team should be ashamed of themselves. For the money that we pay for these games they should be getting better every time they produce a new version. I can safely say that this will be the last Gran Turismo that I purchase and I expect that many more people will have the same reaction. Goodbye Gran Turismo and hello to project cars 2.

If you're looking for a good old classic Gran Turismo game on PS4, then this might not be it for you. While this game is good for what it is, an online sports racing game, this is not the Gran Turismo we all know and love. I understand they are trying something new, and that this is called Gran Turismo Sport, and not 7, but I miss the old campaign mode. Now the campaign mode is just basically practice and missions. The real game is all online, which is cool and all, but it's just not as fun as the old Gran Turismo games. I will say that the online mode is addicting, because the racer in me just wants to keep getting better, but there are a lot of drivers that don't take the game serious and will basically mario kart your way out of the track. With that said there is still really good competition online though, and that's basically what keeps me going back. I want to win races, and prove to myself that I am worthy. So, this is a game that I will keep playing, I mean it is still Gran Turismo at heart, but it's far from perfect.

I'm so disappointed for spending $75 on this garbage. There's almost no aspect of the game to upgrade car parts like all the other past releases. The money is for helmet skins, car colors and cars. There's barely over a hundred cars.. Nothing impressive like other games. It's all online only multi-player basically as well. My favorite part about this series was the ability to tune up and upgrade cars in many ways. Not in this game! Stay far far away. They have destroyed their reputation and the name Gran Turismo has a stain on its name forever. Thousands of people online are in uproar over these things all across reviews, forums, etc. Don't buy this game!

I religiously played GT5 and when GT6 came out, it had consumed me. I loved playing the campaign career mode and moving through the different worlds and obtaining new vehicles. But that was on the PS3. I have the PS4 now and when I learned that GT sport was coming out, I was ecstatic! Playing the beta version made me realize how little of a choice there is among the cars. They have duplicates of the same vehicles among manufacturers which is very disappointing. I have a 1080P and not a 4K TV, but I thought the graphics were better on GT6 also. The other annoying factor is that it needs constant online connection which is frustrating. They honestly dropped the ball on this one.

I usually never buy a game before I read reviews, but I did not listen to my instincts this time. I purchased it on 22nd of October, without even thinking that a franchise like GT can turn a completely different direction. First sign of something going wrong was that unlike Shadow of Mordor there was no display stand of GT in store, only some flicks on their demo TV. Second, I was unable to find it on the shelf so I had to ask at the counter for a copy. The only place where GT Sport has a good rating is on Playstation Store. If you look at Amazon - it's 2 out of 5. And rightfully so. The game has no content like all previous installments do. No upgrades, no cars, and practically no offline. Some features only accessible with PS GOLD (???!!!!). I asked at the local Gamestop and they told me that there is a bunch of limited edition pre-orders that nobody picked up. All in all, Sony should have warned us that GT is not the same anymore.

No it doesn't have a ton of cars or a career mode but Gran Turismo Sport is a focused racing game about driving, competition, and realistic graphics. Do we still need a career/championship mode this day and age? How many times have we climbed the ranks and won trophy's in previous racing games? I appreciate the new direction this game is going. GT Sport challenges and teaches you to be a better driver so you can go race other players in the "Sport Mode". It does have an arcade mode for those who don't want to play online. Sure the game requires an internet connection to use most of it's features but the most popular games out there are only half complete without an online connection. I don't think it's a deal breaker but it can be frustrating for those without an online connection. I love the new "Scapes" mode, the rendered images looks incredibly realistic. I highly recommend this game especially if you already own a PS4.

Best online racing structure in the console market

Gran Turismo Sport's safety rating system makes online racing enjoyable. Those who race cleanly are grouped with others who race cleanly. Those drivers who prefer to drive into corners and ram people off of the track are grouped with other terrible drivers. The penalty system rewards driving the tracks in the correct manner rather than those who take shortcuts and drive tracks improperly. With this in mind, races are fun as competitors drive with a high degree of sportsmanship. Driving dynamics are among the best in the console space with decent realism. If you want any more realism, iRacing on the PC may be for you. If you are the type of person who doesn't brake for corners and likes to run into everyone, please stick with Forza.

I have played EVERY Gran Turismo game since the playstation inception, I am telling you now, they have COMPLETELY changed the ENTIRE gameplay. It is geared SOLELY towards multiplayer online gameplay. No more customizing, no more visual changes, no more racing mods, and oh yeah, NO MORE FUN. If you want to race with your friends in cars picked by the game, go for it. If you are a die hard GT fan, you will hate it. I have literally bought new game consoles to play the latest and greatest GT. I am REGRETTING my latest PS4 purchase and will return to GT6 on my PS3.
