Why?!
|Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the device for less than a year and the trimmer has trouble when stopping and starting up again. Sometimes I have to pull the battery out and put it back in to continue working. I tried to clean out the head, but it seems to be a normal part of operation? The battery that came with it has already failed and will no longer charge. The cost of a replacement battery is actually more than the cost of the whole device, battery, and charger... Of course, I'm far outside of the return period and it seems that my Best Buy Total didn't offer coverage for this device. I've been attempting to get in contact with the manufacturer to see if they will honor any kind of warranty. So far, no luck. Would not buy again.

Posted .Hello Damon. We are sorry to hear of the issue you are experiencing. The most common issue related to a unit not starting is the connection or battery charge. If the charge is full, please make sure the battery clicks into place. Intermittent function can occur when the battery has not been correctly seated into the compartment on the tool. We would also like to go over the starting procedure. To start the Trimmer 1. Pull the lock-out button and hold it. 2. Pull the trigger to start the machine. We have also share two videos below in the hopes they will provide a better user experience.

Posted .Hello msquared - We are sorry to hear about your experience when using this tool. We understand that for some new customers this task may seem overwhelming / difficult but once they do it a few times it’s quite easy – as easy as replacing a spool. The reloading process of a trimmer head is not meant to be difficult but does to have to be completed correctly. To remove the trimmer head, users must, line up the slots on the spool cap with the slots on the trimmer head. Then push the tabs on the sides of the trimmer head at the same time. We would like to further discuss the concerns you are running into and see what we can do to help. We're very confident that this head will perform well when used correctly. When you have a moment, we would recommend contacting our customer care team and we would be glad to go over this with you. We kindly ask that you give us a call at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS). All we ask that you have access to the unit so that we can complete troubleshooting with you and gather necessary unit information.

Powerful trimmer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Greenworks trimmer came well packaged with easy to follow instructions for assembly. All the parts are high quality and do not seem flimsy in any way. The shaft, the line guard, and the handle were easy to install. The battery is fairly large and powerful, and because of this the entire unit is somewhat heavy. One of the best features, however, is the shoulder strap that attaches to the shaft with a clip that swivels. This relieves most of the weight during use. It takes some time to adjust the handle and shoulder strap clip to be at the most optimal and comfortable position, but is worth taking the time. The trimmer is quite powerful and also takes some time to get used to. I actually cut a few places too low - right down to dirt - before getting the hang of using it consistently. I used it for cutting grass under trees and also for edging. It's fairly quiet for a powerful machine. The battery lasts longer than my arm (before I get tired). The battery charger is easy to see across the room - the lights are large. Overall, this powerful trimmer does the job very efficiently.

Very weak
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not good at all. Will be returning it. Really hard to change the thread and not strong enough. Plus the battery is big which makes it really heavy to hold this for longer period of time.

Garbage.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lucky to get one star. I have a half acre, and I got through about 15 sqft, 15 mins before the battery noticeably lost a lot of power. At that point I set it down and finished with my gas powered one. And once I grabbed my gas powered weed eater, the power was significantly better than the electric with a full charge. Returned the next day

Powerful Cordless Trimmer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Greenworks 16’’ Cordless String trimmer really impressed me. For a while I was looking to update my electric weed trimmer and I'm so happy I came across this one. Once out of the box, it was fairly easy to assemble the trimmer with the instructions given. The trimmer comes with its own battery, charger, guard, and support strap. After a rainy season here in California, the weeds around my house grew tremendously. So this trimmer arrived just in time. The trimmer isn’t difficult to use. The battery is a bit on the heavy side, so I definitely suggest using the support strap. It really helps carry on the weight. Without it, I would’ve been super tired afterwards. The support strap also helps you maneuver the trimmer around. The battery charged fast as well. It claims that the battery lasts up to 50 minutes, I didn't get to use it that long, maybe 30 minutes tops and the battery holds up really well so I'm sure it could have gone longer without a hassle. The trimmer has 2 speeds low and high in which both deliver a great speed. There’s also the lock switch that has to be pressed down in order for the trimmer to work. The trimmer head can be removed for cleaning or for replacing the line. The Load and Go feature is truly amazing, by just turning the spool cap you are able to pull the line to your desired length. This is very convenient and saves time by not taking the head trimmer apart. As for a woman, myself that likes to keep up with the weeds cut down around the house this trimmer helped me achieve that. I don't have to worry about adding gas or have annoying extension cords in my way. Overall this trimmer functions very well and for the price I definitely recommend it, you get what you paid for.

Good for homeowners with lots to trim
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Greenworks 18v string trimmer is a solid performer and easily the equal of more well known outdoor equipment brands. Out of the box this trimmer was very easy to assemble. The two halves of the shaft went together easily and attaching the handle and shroud for the cutter head were super simple. This was in contrast to a very similar trimmer that I put together for my father (from a major outdoor equipment brand) last summer which had poorly fitting components and lots of little loose parts in the build. All in all this trimmer was ready to run in 5 minutes. I want to take a minute to talk about the battery. Be a it is an 80v system this battery it chonky. However, it is relatively light for its dimensions when compared to other tool batteries I have. It seems to me that they traded rugged construction for lighter weight so it wasn’t like lugging around a car battery on the end of the tool. I have some concern for the durability of the battery because of the lighter construction. The charger is a similar build quality, though that should be less of an issue as it won’t be moving around like the battery after I mounted it behind my workbench. The charger has a noisy cooling fan that reminds me of an old battery charger/conditioner I used to have. Its not a problem in the garage, but it would sure be annoying in the kitchen. After putting a full charge on the battery I took it for a test drive. With the battery in the tool it took me a few minutes to adjust the handle and should strap to find a nice balance for the tool. I did find that with the angle of the head and my shorter arms I ended up with a bit of a front edge up/back adage down orientation when it was comfortable. This might not be the same for other users, but I needed to stay mindful of the angle as I used the tool as it would tend to cut “upwards”. As this tool comes with a two-speed motor selector I started off in low speed, figuring this would be better for battery life and control. As I was doing spring cleanup of grass and plants that were a bit thicker and drier left from the fall I found that I needed to shift up to the higher speed to really cut well. The higher speed seems to be more like the typical string trimmer speed I am used to and powered through some heavy stuff with ease. The slower speed is probably something I may try to use when working around flower beds or when dealing with things like dandelions, but I think I will be sticking with the higher speed setting for more general use. I used the trimmer in starts and stops for over an hour and the battery held up the whole time, and I definitely got more done without a battery change or recharge than I would have with my old 20v trimmer. The motor operation of this trimmer is very smooth, and as a brushless motor it should hold up to repeated start/stops well. Functionally, the nice thick line cuts well without the constant breaks I was used to from the much lighter string my old trimmer used. I was surprised that this trimmer uses a “bump the head to feed” system to advance the line as auto feed heads are very common and I have used one for years without issues. The bump head worked fine, I just worry about long term durability, wear/debris fouling and the potential for striking the shroud on the ground. I know I am projecting potential problems I haven’t experienced yet, but it just seems like they could have eliminated a few possibilities with a difference feed system. I didn’t need to add string to the head, but the insert method of reloading seems like I nice feature and hopefully will work better than other methods I have dealt with in the past. Overall build quality of this trimmer is where I decided to drop 1 star. This trimmer feels VERY plasticky. The plastics also do not inspire a great deal of confidence in their durability. As I meant earlier I am concerned about the strength of the battery case, and in a way, that can be applied to the whole tool. It seems like a an effort was made to keep it light at the expense of strength. Obviously this is a home-owner tool not one for a lawn contractor, but things fall over in the shed, get accidentally or otherwise unintentionally abused all the time. The finish on the metal shaft also has proven to be easy to scratch, and after a day’s use already has several blemishes for normal use. So far I have been happy with the tool, but I can’t help but wonder if it will hold up as long as my old one once I use it weekly throughout the warm weather. All in all I think this is a good tool for a homeowner with a fair amount of trimming to do. it’s lighter and quieter than a gas trimmer, but with comparable cutting capabilities. The battery has very good run time, and being battery operated it’s much easy to use throughout the yard than a corded model, or even a gas one (no can to drag around and no fuel to mix). I hope it can hold up to regular use.

Amazing power and ergonomically balanced.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second battery powered string trimmer that I've owned. My old one is specific to a certain big box home improvement store and did the job for the amount of trimming I need. After a few years of use I did find it hard to keep a full charge on my old one. This Greenworks has officially blown the competition out of the water. The first thing I noticed was the weight of the battery. It's big and heavy, but the thing this trimmer has going for it is the fact that it's balanced properly. I can't say the same for my previous trimmer which was very hard on my back. The greenworks also comes with a strap that is adjustable and mounts to a perfectly balanced spot on the trimmer. Once again, this design is well thought out. The enclosed battery and battery charger are large but not too big. There is a fan on the charger to keep things cool while charging. First mow of the season I decided to break out the new Greenworks. Holy cow. This thing has power like no battery powered trimmer I've used before. It cut thru the slightly overgrown weeds and areas that had been growing thru our warmer than usual winter. I accidentally had it set on the higher setting and the amount of grass and weeds that were being thrown on my legs was ridiculous. It's almost as if the plastic guard on the back that's used to shield grass wasn't made large enough. Highly recommend the use of thick pants when using this. The trigger his pressure sensitive so if you would like to have the motor spin a little less fast, don't press on the trigger as hard. I was so amazed with this I went in and ranted and raved to my wife about the trimmer. To put it simply this trimmer is downright worth it. The cost of the trimmer, the weight and balance and the insane amount of power it has makes me recommend this trimmer to anyone in the market. You won't be disappointed.
