GREAT CASE FOR OVERALL I-POD TOUCH 5G PROTECTION

    Posted
    BestBuyConsumer1

This is a great case in many ways. The plugs while slightly cumbersome overall are useful for keeping the lightning connector port, headphone jack, and back camera lens from getting dirty. The belt clip is sturdier than it was in the last model and once one decides on the most comfortable way to apply it on it is a great add-on. The one con of the clip is that one cannot charge the unit while it is on but since the belt clip itself is removable this does not make too much of a difference. The built in screen protector is a great addition. It is great because the unit maintains the same screen sensitivity while staying relatively clean and scratch free underneath the protector. The only real draw back is that the built in screen protector will require some maintenance. This is because the case itself sometimes attracts the harmless but annoying lint/debris that all sturdy silicone covers usually attract. This lint/debris will eventually get underneath the screen protector and the screen protector will need to be removed every week or so so that the original screen and the back of screen protector itself can be gently wiped. This will ensure that no pieces of lint/debris are visible during use for movies and games. As a commuter I use the I-pod every SINGLE day so my experience with this may be different than those who do not use it as often. The case is very easy to hold on to and I am not really worried in the slightest of the unit it protects surviving a slight fall. Overall I would give the case a 4.5 but I will round it up as one of the people who reviewed this did not tell the truth and stated that the port plugs were non-removable. If you are someone who does not like one or more of the plugs covering the different ports such as the camera port then simply remove them and subsequently do not reattach them to the case. It is as easy as that!! This is a VERY PROTECTIVE piece of equipment.

We had gotten a green one for my daughter when she got a 4th gen iPod touch 6 months ago. We loved it so much when we got our son a new iPod 5th gen it was totally a necessity! He picked his out to be the blue color. These are very durable and totally protect the iPods if they are dropped or tossed around. Yes they are 8 and 12 so they do occasionally get tossed gently onto chairs, tables, beds...even though us parents don't approve and continually azure with them not to! All of the holes and buttons line up which is great. I have bought cases in the past that they don't...which gets annoying! :0) All buttons and functions are easily useable on this case. The only downside is docking, since it is a bulky case you do have to remove the case to dock it to boomboxes and other devices. The cord plugs in just fine, though you have to give it an extra firm push that clicks but does no damage to the case or cord. At first I couldn't' get the cord to charge until I did this...I was afraid of damaging something and just was not pushing hard enough to get it all the way in past the case. The other thing I noticed between the two is with my daughters there was a little divot on the back of the case that when you opened the camera plug it had a bump on it that snapped it into this divot to keep it out of the way of the camera. This one does not do that so when using the camera you have to make sure that you hold the rubber plug back under your finger that you hold the iPod with. The other plus of this case is the screen protector. It is built into this case so you can just quickly and easily clean it with a lightly damp cloth and be good to go. No regularly buying and replacing the expensive screen protector stickers!!!!! Those things are soo expensive and add up sooo quickly when you have multiple devices in the house that need to regularly be swapped out! The case might seem a bit pricier than other options, but it is totally worth it especially if you are getting it for a child or if you''re a klutz! We want to search the internet and see if we can find versions for our older ipods!

Durable protection w/ a few design fumbles

I will always HIGHLY recommend that consumers put ANY technology devices in a protective case, even if it makes them somewhat bulky. I personally put investment above aesthetics in these situations. True, my new iPod Touch 6th Gen looks a bit like a very small black brick rather then an ultra-slim high tech player, but I have little fear if could handle any future bumps and bruises to protect the device and my music inventory it contains. The texture provides a great grip (without being a 'dust magnet'), and the case fits the device in a snug fashion. The cutouts are aligned well with the ports/lens, and the onscreen swipe doesn't seem to be affected at all by the in built-in cover. The cover for the lightening port is a wee bit of a frustration by design, but I know the purpose of the case is to protect from the elements, so it's something I just need to accept and live with. The flap for covering the lens is similar to earlier Griffin versions in that you have to be very careful with twisting it off and around to avoid having it block part of the lens, thus showing up in the picture/video. The button covers for Power and Volume are really nice, and don't hamper the use of those buttons at all. The only reason I purchased the newest version of case is because iPod Touch 6th Gen doesn't have a wrist strap connection and any cut-out of earlier cases would leave an opening for dirt and moisture. Very easy to recommend this product to others, but only if you are willing to protect your music player investment with a bit of bulk (but high quality bulk).

I was attracted to this product because it was pretty on the picture. Since it looked like it will protect my new ipod (which it does) I bought it right away. The color quality of the pink is quite horrible. It was prettier on the picture but that was not such a big bummer for me. Although, considering the high price, I was expecting high quality material for this product. Protection-wise, it does protect your ipod. Accessibility on camera, home button, headphone jack, and lightning connector works very well, I like it. Those who are in-love with the ipod's screen, it's the biggest bummer. The screen protector was low quality. I'm sure it will drive out dirt or rain drops from getting into your ipod but it ruins the Retina display. It also gets dirty easily. So, low quality on that part. I hated that. Appearance-wise it's okay. It's not that heavy once you get used to it. It's heavy at first because the new ipod is so light. I wouldn't buy it again for sure because I like protecting my screen. Especially, apple products. If it didn't have that included screen I would have rated this 5 stars. But, if you don't mind that, I highly recommend it. I like this product because of its qualities except the screen included (I'm planning on taking it away so I can use my non-smudge screen protector). I'm a little disappointed because of that. Oh! And one more thing, it inhibits access to the loop thing on the back of the ipod. I don't mind cause I won't use it anyway.

This is the second Griffin case that I've purchased for my iPod--after owning my previous Griffin nearly a year, it started to wear out due to frequent use. I have heard more bad than good about the cases, but for me, they've benefitted me greatly! First off, I like the flap that protects the camera lens. Whenever I use the camera, I simply remove it and swing it clockwise to the side so it doesn't fall back on the lens. Otterboxes don't have such protection for the camera. I also like the belt-clip/kickstand better than the lanyard on the Otterboxes. Griffin must have improved the quality of materials on their cases--I was able to hear music loud and clear through the speaker covering, and the case itself is of a harder, more durable material. And I had absoutely no problems installing my iPod in the case--you have follow the directions for installation and removal VERY CAREFULLY! In fact, I sit on my bed when I do this! I only dropped the iPod once while in the case, and nothing happened to it or the case! This type of case is great for kids to have, as I recommended it to my friends who got their kids iPods--and they think they are a huge investment-saver. All in all, when it comes to a highly fragile item like the iPod, the Griffin case is your best bet. By the way, I'm not a hunter, but I do like camo. I'm not a frilly girly-girl!

Specifically chose this case because of belt clip. Case fits very well. I found limited choices for cases with belt clips. The unit is not "perfect" due to the following: 1. While there is a diagram in the package showing the parts, it took me a while to discover that the rubber case is not the last part in the assembly process (I am use to Otterbox technology, which didn't offer a comparable case). The top screen cover goes on last! 2. Beltclip (part 1) - the end of clip (for belt) often "locks" with the corresponding clip end, so that, as best I have been able to tell, requires one to force it open. Note; the belt clip will open to "lock" position, and there is a release to unlock at the pivot point. 3. Beltclip (part 2) - When removing the case from the clip while wearing it on belt, the top of the clip which hold the iPod case "grabs" the upper case cover and pulls it away from the unit. I have checked to insure that the top cover is securely in place. Time will tell if the front cover eventually breaks. Note: if you are just holding the belt clip with unit attached and remove the iPod holding the back of the clip assembly, it most often doesn't "grab" the case's face plate. I'd give this case itself a higher than average rating except for the problems with the belt clip assembly

I love my case and after reading the installation instructions assembled the case on my first try! The charger fits into the port easily as does the headphone jack. I especially like having the charger port and mini jack covered. The buttons are all easy to press and I like that the camera port has a cover as well. I would like to see Griffin release a translucent case in the Protector style. The case weighs more than the iPod Touch 5G and is almost too wide when holding in my hand. As a person who bites his fingernails have a lot of trouble getting the camera lens cover off. I do like the sturdy, ratcheting belt clip that locks in both the open and closed positions, so it stays put when wearing and is great when using the unit as an alarm clock. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with the quality construction and protection this unit offers!

I like this case for my ipod because as a quadriplegic I tend to drop things a lot. I've had this for awhile now and yes it has fallen. I've dropped it on cement, grocery store floors, my kitchen floor and my ipod has been completely fine. These are drops of at around three feet to about five feet and everything was ok. There are little things that are annoying. For example it's hard sometimes to exit out of things if the x is in the corner and the little flaps to get to charge, camera, and headphones can be a pain(my camera flap came off). Those are the minor things. Biggest challenge is getting the ipod in and out of the case. If you're someone who really just keeps it in the case that's good, but if you're not it's going to be irritating. It's a snug fit so it's really hard to remove. This is mostly a good thing because nothing gets in there but some people might not like it.

I bought this at the time I bought an iPod for my son. I cleaned up the iPod and installed it in this case before giving it to my 16 year old son. I disliked the screen protection. It seemed difficult to get the screen to read my touches and swipes. Also about 50 days after purchasing both, my son brought the case to me claiming that the iPod would not turn on. I tried a different charger. It still didn't work. then I removed the ipod from the case to discover that the screen was separated from back on one end of the iPod. This bend might have occurred when I struggled to remove the iPod from the case because the case was gripping the edges. However the iPod had no scratches, dents, etc. I also know that some users claim that iPods are warping on their own. So, I am not sure if it was the case or the iPod.

      Griffin Technology Q&A

I'm so sorry to hear about the trouble you had with your iPod! There's no way that I know of that the Survivor case could have directly caused that kind of damage to your son's iPod, but if you think it did, we definitely need to take a look at it. Please get in touch with our Support team so that we can try to figure out what happened. You can reach them here: http://grff.in/support ^MS griffin-technology

I bought this to replace my Lifeproof case (the screen protector unseals over time, eliminating the waterproof feature) and I like it better than Lifeproof. I wanted a durable case with protective covers over both cameras and some water resistance, which this has (not waterproof). I really like the fact that I can remove the lens cover on the back camera to take pictures. The only problems are the heavy duty protection makes it thicker (can be a problem when putting it in a small pocket, but came with a removable clip for attaching it to the pocket or belt), my case has a little space between the screen cover and the screen (reduces the sensitivity), and dust gets under the screen cover because the edges of mine don't completely seal. Dust can also get under the back camera lens cover if you don't completely close it after pictures. Over all, I like it. Bonus: the cool camo color.

I have previously bought two of these cases/holsters, the other two when I bought my two iPod Touches. they both performed admirably. I bought this one when the holster broke on me when it snagged while on my waist. This new case is of obvious lower fit, function, and quality. The front plastic piece is painfully, obviously ill-fitted and nearly useless. Almost every time I push the iPod Touch into the holster, it snags on both of the clips of the holster and is only effectively clipped in-place by the side clips. Also, the back camera flap cover will not stay in-place, always exposing the camera and potentially getting snagged on anything because of it's protrusion. As said before, I've had two other previous Griffin iPod Touch cases that performed very well. Why have they made changes that have so compellingly affected the performance of their cases?

After trying countless cases for my 5th generation iPod Touch i settled on this one...about 4 years ago! This case had been with me through thick and thin (multiple drops and spills). Over time dust would begin to creep in under the screen protector at that point I'd simply disassemble the case and give it a blast of compressed air before putting it all back together again. I recently upgraded to a 6th generation iPod Touch and gifted my old one to my mom. I didn't have any issues with the flaps since I charged it sparingly, hardly ever took photos, and only used Bluetooth headphones with it. I was happy to learn that the new model fit in the same sized case so I bought a new case for my mom and one for my self!

I purchased a case like this for my 4th generation iPod touch, and it worked great. It got sprayed with water and droped on several occations and it fit very well. So I purchased the similar case for my 5th generation iPod Touch. It fits well, but the rubber on the front at the top and bottem face doesn't stay fitted to the cae. and the rubber over the button doesn't even touch it untill it's pressed. The cover over the rear camera is easier to use, and the belt clip is beefier than the previous version. And you can actually hear the iPod without the ear buds. Overall I'd recomend it, but I think the quality leave's some to be desired.

I bought this for my new 6th gen iPod Touch 128 gig because I already had one for my Samsung Tablet and I've been very happy with it. The case fits snugly and smoothly without any issues on both 5th and 6th gen iTouch. It has a protective plastic screen cover so you won't get fingerprints all over the screen. It also has a rotating belt clip which makes it easier to carry your iPod vertical, horizontal, or at any angle you wish. It technically also doubles as a stand if you're watching videos horizontally. The outside is rubber and your iPod is cradled inside the rubber surrounded by plastic. I have dropped it once and have had no damage to my iPod. Excellent case, excellent protection. Pick one up!

Purchased case for my nine yr old son's iPod since well he is a boy. I wanted a sturdy case to protect against drops etc... The case provides great protection and is not terribly bulky. Problem for us is that none of the lightening to 30 pin adaptors will connect to the ipod due to the case opening. The regular lightening pin charger cord will attach, but we need adaptors to use speakers etc.... purchased for previous generation iPod. This is something to consider if you will be using your ipod with auxillary speakers etc... Headphones connect fine. Test out the case before purchasing. It is not the most expensive but it is not cheap either.

When I bought my iPod touch (5th gen) last week, I picked this up at the same time. Getting the iPod into it took a little longer than expected, but it really wasn't too bad. All the controls of the iPod work very well through the silicone and even sound from the speaker comes through loud and clear. The best feature: it really does protect the iPod from impacts. Two days ago, I tripped and fell onto a sidewalk with my hands slamming into it pretty hard. In my left hand I was holding my iPod in its case and it took the brunt of the impact on that side. I thought that the case would withstand drops, not the kind of force I had just subjected it to, but I was wrong. My iPod was not damaged at all and the case itself took minimal damage. Well worth the money!

At first, I wasn't a fan of this product. I didn't like how it covered the color of my iPod, and how it wasn't easy to put on my iPod. It has grown on me since it has done a really good job of protecting my iPod from my 2 small children. I have dropped it and so have they, and it has not gotten scratched or broken. I don't keep the screen protector on, because it made the iPod more difficult to use, but I will use the screen protector when I take my iPod to the beach. I would tell someone that buys this product to remember to take the camera cover off before taking pics. Sometimes I forget that there is a protective cover on it and think that my iPod's camera is broken.

This is a nice rugged case for the new ipod touch but it has a few flaws. It would seem that having a slot for the i loop strap was an afterthought. When the loop is installed, the case does not close properly which prevents the lightning cable from being fully inserted into the port. After removing the loop it was easy to connect the lightning cable. I also discovered that this case blocked the speaker so much that I was no longer able to beam TonePrint effects to my guitar amplifier. Overall I think the survivor case is a good product and with these few problems corrected I would highly recommend it. In the meantime I will have to buy another case to protect and hold on to this slick new ipod touch 5.

This case is definitely worth the money. It is a very durable and comfortable case. It's a little bulky but it makes up for it with protection. It's easy to put together and it is simple. The bad things are that in order to talk clearly into the microphone you need to open the camera flap (as the microphone is next to the camera for easier voice capture during videos) there aren't many ways around this issue so no damage on their part. The second thing that's not good is that the clip covers the charging port so to cant have the clip on while your charging, but other than that no complaints. I've had the previous gen iPod cases from this company and all of them are worth the buy. I am very satisfied.

Let's face it, I'm not the gentlest with my stuff. With my iPod mini, I kept it securely sealed in an otterbox. Not finding one available for my touch, I went with this case. Years later, it's still protecting my touch. I've dropped it several times on all sorts of surfaces and no harm to the unit. The only minuses I've encountered is that the front facing camera opening needs to be periodically cleaned with a cotton swab. Water can get inside, when that happens I need to remove the case and wipe it dry. Other than that, I think the case is great and would get one again.
