A Much Needed Upgrade
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Halloween is a great movie that has unfortunately suffered from horrible home video releases (quality wise). This 4K upgrade was something it desperately needed. The Shape has never looked better.

It is the classic that started it all

Halloween was superbly well done in every way-acting suspense, and gore were perfectly balanced for a great Halloween night popcorn experience.

one of the best
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The film arrived in perfect condition, but it did not come with its slipcover. and that makes it lose value for a fan or collector. That's why I returned it.

Good upgrade from DVD
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Huge fan of John Carpenter movies. Really like this classic. The 4k version is a huge upgrade over the DVD copy that I had. While the picture quality is not reference quality, it does provide improved colors and contrast. The DTS soundtrack does provide good clarity along the front channels. I got this version during Black Friday, so can't complain about the value per dollar.

Great Classic Movie
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love Halloween and this original movie from 1978. John Carpenter is the best, Not Rob Zombie movies. The remakes from Zombnie are awful. But this classic is the best one

Halloween: A Masterpiece of Minimalist Proportions
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s hard to believe that 40 years have passed since the release of John Carpenter’s horror classic, “Halloween”. Dozens of similarly themed movies have popped up over the years, all proving to send those proverbial chills up and down our spines. So what sets this movie apart from the rest? Does this 1978 horror gem still deliver? Or has it all but lost its punch? Let’s take a closer look. The genius of this film lies in its subtlety and sparseness of materials. Elaborate sets and breathtaking scenery are not required. Silhouettes of stark tree branches swaying in the breeze, a few autumn leaves wafting through the air, and the constant play between light and shadow are all that is necessary, complementing one another to create the perfect recipe for fear and suspense. Whoever dreamed that a casual midday stroll down a residential street accompanied by mindless teenage chatter could be so terrifying? Future Filmmakers of this genre take note: less will always be more. Always. Just give the viewer the bare essentials, nothing more, nothing less - and your job will be done. I would be remiss not to mention the superb underpinning of Mr. Carpenter’s musical score, built around a three-note motive, a spark of genius disturbingly effective in its repetitive simplicity. So, yes, this film definitely still delivers! Of this there is no doubt.

Best of the series
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nothing beats the original. Full of great suspense and none of the gore that so many later movies used to try and shock. The theme song is still creepy after all these years.

Horror Classic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Holloween is John Carpenter's finest work, wonderfully shot and acted with a score that is iconic. This movie is a classic and always watched at my house on Holloween night.

Probably the best horror film of all time.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This wasn't made to cash in on a horror trend or just a copy and paste movie that's exactly like everything else. No, no.... this is the horror trend, probably one of the most influential films of all time. Not bad considering it was a low-budget film, shot in the springtime (The leaves were from the previous fall!) with a virtually unknown cast and crew, with Donald Pleasance being the most known, but what it lacked in finances, it made up for it in spades with great direction, great acting, a taut screenplay and Dean Cundey's impressive cinematography all ad up to being a legendary film. The PQ is very nice, which includes a widescreen and fullscreen version (Stay away from the 4x3 version!) which has nice details, film grain and colors but the grain tends to spike (Maybe compression related due to 2 versions and extras on one side of the DVD) during dark scenes. The AQ is very nice with a nice 5.1 track which expands on the original mono track, which is also included here along with a 2.0 surround sound track. The extras are fairly slim here, considering the multiple versions of the DVD n BluRay out, which contain commentaries, documentaries, deleted scenes and then some. Included here is a 27-min. making of, trailer, tv spots, biographies, radio spot, and galleries. All in all, a decent DVD release, but there are far superior Blu Ray & DVD releases out there, but for $5 and under, it'll fill your horror hunger sufficiently.
