My very first RTS ( Real Time Strategy ) game was Halo Wars. I went into that game not knowing anything about it, and not even knowing if I would like it at all, but as it turns out I absolutely LOVED it. So Halo Wars 2 was a no brainer to me, it was a day one buy. If you know what an RTS is and have experience in this genre of games then you know what to expect here. Base building, troop development, land and air, vehicle & armor , weapon development etc etc etc............ then of course moving troops and etc from one place to the other to complete the objectives of the game . Sounds simple and boring? LOL, it is not, you will have multiple things happening at once, not all the time but it will happen, you may have troops engaging a target and more somewhere else engaging some enemy somewhere else and then your base comes under attack and you have to mange what is happening there as well.. Don't think this will be to much to handle for you, the game is set up in a way that you can quickly move from one engagement to the other very very quickly and seamlessly. Most RTS games will be found on PC, and few have been developed for Console, but the way the game has been tailored for controller control instead of mouse and keyboard it is absolutely outstanding. the controls are simple and easy to remember and understand, allowing quick response for what ever situation you find yourself in during the game. Story - The Game begins as the crew from The Spirit of Fire awaken from cryo sleep due to a distress signal from an instillation called the ARK. Upon deploying a Spartan team to the Ark to investigate the signal, the team encounters the Atriox, a Brute that has risen through the trials of war to become the most brutal and fierce leader of a rebel covenant faction. It is now up to you to stop this terrible threat and save the galaxy and the human race.. This game will also impact the Halo 6 story line, which is very interesting because the original Halo Wars had no impact at all on the games that came after it. I love this idea and upon playing the upcoming Halo 6 title I will remember and be able to reflect on what happened during Halo Wars 2, and why the things happening in Halo 6 are happening . Halo Wars was a game that was set in the Halo universe but had nothing to do with the main line Halo titles and the Master Chief, and that is not the case with this game and the upcoming Halo 6 main line installment.. What a great idea, I absolutely love it and absolutely cannot wait for the inevitable Halo 6 release in 2018. Graphics - Absolutely gorgeous, detail everywhere, you know you are playing a Halo game, there is no doubt. The cut scenes are absolutely AMAZING, and the original Halo Wars was no slouch in this department either, but DANG they are beautiful in this title, and just help immerse you into this game and the Halo universe. Voice Acting - The cast in this game are top notch as you would expect from a AAA game release. There are a few characters throughout the campaign that are better than others, but that is to be expected just like any other game or movie, but over all the voice acting is exceptional to further your game immersion. Sound - If you have played past main line Halo titles you will be right at home here, from the sounds of gunfire to the pop of plasma grenades, it's all here. The Scorpion tanks, Warthogs and all Covenant vehicles sound absolutely great and just like they should and are definitely what you remember. Also just like all Halo titles this entry has an excellent orchestral sound track that's just puts you into the Halo universe and keeps you there, simply amazing.. Conclusion - This is an AMAZING title for everyone not just the Halo fan base, there is just so much fun to be had here. In my opinion this game is well worth the purchase price, and I urge everyone to pick it up. Solid 5 out of 5

An high value RTS that has some flaws

I'd rate Halo Wars 2 as a buy after the first price drop. It's got a great mix of content for RTS veterans and RTS newcomers alike. Storywise, Halo Wars 2 seems a bit too brief of a campaign, but the missions are extremely varied in a way that rivals Starcraft, and the cutscenes are some best looking cutscenes I've ever seen in gaming. Multiplayerwise, Halo Wars 2 really shines as you have a great mix of Online Co-Op, verses, and Firefight modes, coupled with offline Skirmish modes against AI. Blitz is a fun game mode for quick games, but the pay to win microtransactions in that mode are going to really prevent a lot of people from playing on an even footing. (I'd stick to blitz firefight in that regard, as it cuts the pay to win element out entirely) If you love Halo and RTS, defintely buy it at launch. If you aren't quite sold, wait until you can get the ultimate edition at a better price. 343 has a good track record of post-launch support off of Halo 5, (Free maps, tendency to listen to the community for post-launch features and updates) and as good as this game is at the moment, it will be a great addition to your game collection in 6 months when the post-launch DLC campaign, maps, and leaders arrive.

Don't get me wrong, this game is amazing, the 3 star review comes from the poor handling of digital codes on Best Buys account when it comes to the time it takes to get it. The site clearly says you will get an email within one hour. Well two hours later I finally got one saying "Hey thanks for your purchase, you'll be getting another email with instructions on how to install shortly." Or something to that regard. It was 3 am at this point so I decided to call it a night and download it in the morning. Well, 1230 rolled around and I still didn't get a code, had to call in and have them expedite it. Finally got the code about 10 minutes after the phone call, but even the woman on the phone said it takes up to 24hrs to get codes. I could have walked into a store, purchased the card from a gaming section and come back faster then waiting all this time. Just know that if you buy digital content from DotCom it will take extra time, if you are in a hurry to play, swing into a brick and mortar.

This review is for Halo Wars 2. Still a great game to me but I'm a huge fan of the first Halo Wars. I remember hoping and wishing they would make a part 2. The original company had split and said there would probably be "no more Wars" -- I was floored when they said a new one was in the making. I'm a strategic game person. I love em -- building structures and commanding troops-- and Halo Wars is it for me. The realistic SFX and little touches visually makes this game awesome to me. A good "sight for sore eyes" if you tired of first person shooters that's flooding and ruining the gaming market. Every game is the same just a different skin. We need variety. We've got to stop supporting this monopoly and demand choices for the kind of money these games and consoles cost! Halo (not Halo Wars) was actually one of the original fps games on a console. 13 or so years later and we're still playing first person shooters? Rediculous. I gave it 4 stars because there are only 8 boards in Skirmish mode, but I'm sure there'll be more to purchase in DLC's. And only 12 missions in Campaign mode. But otherwise, would've been 5 stars from me!!

I have always been a huge Halo fan. I have every Halo game ever made including the first Halo Wars. I really like the first one and I was not disappointed by the sequel. Being able to finally play this highly anticipated game was very enjoyable for me and even better than I had hoped. It is an amazing addition to the Halo series and a nice variation when you want something other than a shooter. I would definitely recommend this game to both new and old Halo fans and especially to anyone who likes strategy games. It also came with a limited edition figure that not only looked pretty cool but was valued at almost $30 so that was just an added bonus of getting it at Best Buy. See the attached photos to view the figure.

    Supporting a Dying Genre

While the RTS genre has largely been replaced in popularity by the MOBA genre, I'm glad to see Microsoft release this title against the dying popularity of its genre. The game is a solid RTS, though it lacks the trifecta (per se) of the StarCraft series, lending more to a focus on Leader Powers (powers you can use from your camera perspective that target anywhere you want that aren't tied to a unit's action) than playing to your "race's" strengths. Since there are only two sides, and both share a large portion of their unit strategies with only a handful of real differentiation, large-scale (and ultimately longer match) battles get to be a bit on the boring side. This is remedied by several modes, opting for quick matches of sheer strategy and all-out chaos, but I do only recommend fans of the RTS genre to give this game a chance. If you're not into this sort of game, this one won't change your mind!

I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite game on the Citadel. Halo Wars 2 excels on what worked with the original - think it's safe to say if you're a fan of the original you'll be right at home with 343 Industries/Creative Assembly sequel - while throwing in improvements in the control and accessibility as well as adding in a deck-building-no-base-building Blitz Mode to get anybody into the fight as well as mix things up with the rest of the game. Campaign is stellar and the developers put a lot of attention to detail. Halo fans will really enjoy this one, strategy gamers will like it as well.

Here’s the skinny. If you like RTS and Halo, get it. If you like RTS and only have a console, get it. If you like RTS, are indifferent to halo, and have a PC, there are better options. Slow start, lots of easing into the game. Too boring for me ( I like some RTS, love halo, but this was just too heavy on the hand holding). So little time to play games, this just wasn’t engaging enough for me personally.

Halo wars 2 is making halo great again story wise. Halo wars 2 starts 20 some odd years after halo 3 so the covenant is not around unlike current halo games they replaced the covenant with a enemy that is covenant but it's own thing with different takes on classic halo enemies also there or no promethean's which think is great. As an Rts it's good not great it's a little dumb down so non rts player can have the controls are great for a console.

I’d been having serious RTS itches and couldn’t find anything on Xbox One to scratch that itch. Well I saw Halo Wars 2 and decided to give it a shot since the first was actually pretty decent. So far I’ve been experiencing a very interesting story in the campaign and being challenged by the difficulty settings. It’s by no means a great RTS but it’s by all means an amazing console RTS.

Halo Wars was one of my favorite Xbox 360 games and I was really excited when I saw it was getting a sequel. Halo Wars 2 does a good job of telling a somewhat unique self-contained story in the Halo universe and ultimately seemed like a better story than we got with Halo 5. The RTS controls translated well to the controller and the cutscenes look fantastic.

This game is good and all, but not really anything THAT new to the table. I played countless hours of Halo Wars, but not quite getting into this one as much. Still, it's good, controls are pretty good, it's fun with a friend. They change the campaign more to objective based, rather than build a huge army and annihilate based. If you enjoyed the first, you'll probably enjoy this one though!

I will preface this review with that fact that I love RTS games, and I adored the first halo wars. This game felt very thrown together, the story was uninteresting, and inconclusive, and very short. I felt pigeonheld by the upgrade system, and the time limits on missions don't line up with how an RTS structure works. I recommend waiting a while on this one. Definitely not worth full price.

After completing Halo Wars on 360 many years ago, I wondered when the Halo Universe would return to the strategy genre. Unfortunately, this game fails to chart its own course and sticks close to the formula established almost 10 years ago in the original. If you loved the original, pick it up. If you weren't sold before, this title will do little to change your mind.

Found this on clearance recently, and bought two copies. I have been playing with my son who's uncannily good at these types of games. One day I will beat him at this real-time strategy game. I don't like the 80 unit limit on troops. Otherwise, great game.

Most people don't associate the Halo series with real time strategy, but then again here we are. The game pits Spartans and Covenant at each other again, and the game starts excitedly from the ground running. The game does lose steam though, and while the soundtrack is albeit excellent, there are far superior RTS games to invest your time in.

It's Halo Wars, the same crew, the same Spartans, but on a new adventure. The story is so-so, the characters are cardboardish, but the game play is fun for a console RTS and that's what you know you're going to get when you buy this product. The campaign is a good 12 hours and the multiplayer is fast and brutal. 5/5 would buy again.

I am a lapsed RTS fan, I found the controls to be intuitive and easy to quickly complete objectives. I am a long time Halo fan, having enjoyed all the games from the launch of the original Xbox. The Halo universe is interesting having read several of the books, this is a nice expansion of the story surrounding the events of Halo 4.

If you liked the first one, this one is much better IMO. Some of the controls still feel a little weird but it's an RTS on console so I don't think you'll get away from that 100%. But they still did a good job at mapping everything out for the controller. I got this for $16 it's well worth it at more than that.

Xbox keeps buidling hype around those old games. Halo Wars is nice and all but ti has flaws and mainly geared towards tactical players, not shooting. I think instead of xbox keep giving up halo, forza, and gears they need to work on new exclusives or IPs like sony or revive some original xbox games like fuzion frenzy or blinx.
