Kino Lorber with a wonderful 4K release

Kino Lorber did a wonderful job with their first 4K UHD release of Hannibal. The video has been remastered for not just the 4K UHD disc, but also the Blu-ray, and it looks amazing. Very, very close to the theatrical source. I think the audio could have used a little updating to a Dolby ATMOS mix for the action sequence, but it isn't entirely necessary for a film like this. Kino Lorber includes the original theatrical mix here, which is still great. As fans, you gotta appreciate how true KL is being to the source here. There is no digital copy code included with this release, but not a deal breaker since those are only good for quick convenience instead of quality, and trust me, these disc's bring all the quality you need. Worth it.

Synopsis: The silence has been broken... "Thrilling (Time), "absorbing" (The Wall Street Journal), and "entertaining" (Newsday), this follow-up to The Silence Of The Lambs is an "audacious success" (Us Weekly)! Anthony Hopkins is "perverse perfection" (Rolling Stone) in his return to the role of Dr. Hannibal Lecter, the sophisticated killer who comes out of hiding to draw FBI agent Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore) into a high-stakes battle that will test her strength, cunning... and loyalty. Drenched in terror, suspense and shocking visual effects, Hannibal is "as compelling a film as you will ever see" (Joel Sigel, "Good Morning America")!

The colors are richer and the blacks are blacker. Excellent shadow detail throughout. Personally though, i actually prefer the accompanying blu ray. The hdr pushes picture a tad too dark to create more contrast. The blu ray is from the same remaster and is just right. Either way the upgrade is worth it from the previous release of this film.

Now is a better time than none to revisit Hannibal. Kino Lorber Cinema Classics has made this possible in the best resolution currently available in the US. The film looks great. The film story itself will be up to the individual. It’s a vastly different film than Silence Of The Lambs and because of this it may be hard to get into because of high expectations. If you are able to separate and meet this film on it’s own level you may enjoy this pulpy horror sequel.

When this film came out it suffered from a confused marketing campaign. It wanted to sell this film as a horror, rather than what it truly is: a gothic romance. The years were not kind to this film, and the old Blu-ray looked awful. This 4K restoration is a marvelous work, bringing back it visual prestige. There are moments of black crush, but this was meant to be a very dark palette film, so it may simply be a product of the original photography.

I was hoping to find this at BB. I knew one store had it out of my area. I was happy to stumble across it in my local BB. This is Kino's first 4K film and it looked really good. I did not do a Blu to 4K comparison but the picture looked fantastic. Not all movies are mastered for 4K but they can still look better than their Blu counter part. Worth picking up if interested. The price was a lot cheaper than Kino's or Amazon's price.

As a huge fan of this film I instantly picked this up on the 4K format once the price was right (18.99). I don’t know what’s better...the movie itself or a young Julianne Moore in 4K Ultra HD. I’ll let you decide on that. However, I’ll leave you with this. It’s obviously not a modern day movie, but for its age it looks spectacular on the new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format.

Anthony Hopkins returns as the inimitable Hannibal again... What a great actor and story. It's not quite as good as Silence of the Lambs was but it doesn't fail to deliver an excellent story line. And of course, Anthony Hopkins' acting was stellar. I've had copies of this movie in DVD and blu-ray, and its not even a contest; the 4k copy is heads above above the other formats.

The Controversial sequel gets high-end treatment

"Hannibal" , -the sequel to "Silence of the Lambs" has always been a bit controversial. The book disappointed many (including myself) and Jodie Foster wouldn't get anywhere near it. However, it llooks terrific here, -much darker and more shadowy than ever before, -and there is a Blu-ray included with a lot of extras.

“Hannibal” is not as good as “The Silence of the Lambs”, but once you get beyond that point, you realize that director Ridley Scott has crafted a fine sequel. It’s also helped by a great performance by Anthony Hopkins, an actor who returns to his role as the villainous Hannibal Lector.

For what it is, I guess it's not bad, although I have heard it is quiet different from the book. It is still watchable. The film has some tense moments that makes it worthwhile The 4K transfer is pretty good. The detail is there. The sound is serviceable.

So if you don't like this movie, you're probably not gonna grab this. But if you do and are 4K ready, this is a great purchase! The movie looks gorgeous, whether it's the streets of Florence, the killer pigs, or Ray Liotta's brain. Great first UHD from Kino Lorber!

This 4K release of Hannibal is incredible. When I first heard Kino Lorber was releasing this, I was a little worried. They had never released a 4k disc before. But after viewing it, they deserve a big round of applause. A must own for any fan.

Hannibal’s past comes back to haunt him. Much more graphic than “Silence of the Lambs”, but still, a good “cat and mouse” thriller. The 4K is crystal clear and vibrant. A good improvement over the previous release.

This marks Kino Lorber's first foray in UHD and it doesn't disappoint. I'm still not a fan of the movie but I can appreciate it more given the studio's job with the uptick in detail

Nothing new, just a face lift. It does a good job diving into the character of Hannibal but “The Silence of the Lambs” is still much better
