Great Season, Amazing Finale, Lots of Extras

This is definitely a more artsy season than the others, but after last season's ending it was almost necessary to slow things down for the first few episodes and amp up the nightmare images and dreamscapes. But after some reflection, things take some crazy turns and it's ridiculously entertaining. There's pretty much two seasons of events here, and basically two season finales. I'm assuming the Red Dragon plot line was moved up because of cancellation fears. Unfortunately, those fears were realized, but I'm still holding out hope for someone to pick it back up when the contract with Amazon Instant Video expires. The last episode can definitely be viewed as a series finale if that doesn't happen, though, and is pretty satisfying. There's a ton of extras on the BluRay and DVD. Almost every episode has a version with commentary, there's some deleted scenes (even an alternate after credits scene), some pretty hilarious bloopers, a few making-of documentaries, and some interviews. There's even a whole special dedicated to the "Fannibals" or the fans of the show which shows off cosplay and art and another special talking about the nature of the relationship between Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham (and some more takes a bunch of fans asked for from that ending). Overall, this is a great season to have on disk that was released with a lot of great extras. Highly recommended.

So far, I've only made it through the first episode. I must say that I was not drawn in to season three the way I was with the last two seasons. I am sure it has a lot to do with the fact that I have already seen him on-the-run in Hannibal (the Ridley Scott film) and was really hoping for more of season one and two. I am sure that I won't be completely disappointed when I finish the series but I have yet to do so. Just an opinion, of course. I was very happy to see Gillian Anderson again this season; she is such a beauty. Mads Mikkelsen is still fantastic in the role of Hannibal and really made it his own as opposed to trying to imitate Anthony Hopkins as I would imagine any other actor may have tried to get away with. Anyway, give this season a shot. I know I will.

This season is a bit of a departure from the previous two seasons. This one is all atmosphere and mood. Stick with it though, as the intensity ratchets up in the second half of the season, culminating in a hold-your-breath confrontation between Will Graham, Hannibal, and Jack Crawford. If you didn't get enough Gillian Anderson previously, she's features in plenty of episodes this season. Mads Mikkelsen's take on Hannibal is far more believable than Anthony Hopkins, presenting him as a Renaissance man of extraordinary intelligence, sophistication, and charm. What sets his performance apart is that the viewer can sometimes empathize with this complete sociopath in the strange, almost symbiotic, relationship he cultivates with Will.

A Fitting End to an Amazing TV Drama

Having never missed an episode of the excellent series on NBC in which the central character is based on Dr. Hannibal Lecter of Silence of the Lambs, this DVD set brings the series to a fitting close. The quality of the writing and the acting and the storyline is maintained to the end, with Hugh Dancy as Will Graham, an FBI consultant who can visualize the murders that Hannibal is responsible for, pitting wits with Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal Lecter. It is recommended that you watch the series from the beginning, however, as this final season will lack the impact it should have for those who are unfamiliar with the history that plays out over the 39 episodes of the series.

Why Can't All TV Be This Way?

With so many formulaic plots and half backed cliché dramas on TV and Cable. Why not dive in to an interesting story that unravels mystery and bizarre behaviors upon every viewing. This is stunning story-telling that creeps up on you like a caterpillar or a centipede on your dry skin. The images and dialogue will leave long lasting impressions that will follow you through your daily routines and chase your nightmares night after night. Unfortunately, this is supposedly the last season but instead of worrying about the future of the show, go back and get all three seasons. Now behold, a modern day masterpiece for years to come. P. S. or post mortem, the extra interviews are hilarious.

Season 3 of Hannibal explores the events and characters from several of Hannibal Lecter books and movies while putting the show's unique twist on the mythos as a whole, with spectacular success. It's unfortunate that as of now the show has been cancelled, but Season 3 still feels like a fitting (though still much of a cliffhanger) ending to the series as a whole. Hannibal is easily one of my favorite shows to hit television in recent years. Equal parts shocking, disgusting and beautiful. It's worth watching if for no other reason that there is nothing else even remotely like it in film.

This season is notable for splitting the season into two distinct storylines. The first half are loose adaptations of two of Thomas Harris's weakest novels, Hannibal and Hannibal Rising. These episodes are no different, they are considerably weaker than seasons 1 and 2. The back half is a great adaptation of The Red Dragon. The Blu Ray looks spectacular and is filled to the brim with bonus features. My only gripe with the season is that I'm not big on the practically flat out romance between Hannibal and Will Graham. That said, if this is the end, it does provide a good sense of closure.

Bryan Fuller bleeds into Hannibal and the beauty in his design creates another cult classic TV show. If you're a fan of excellent directing, superb acting and entrancing artwork then you need to eat this up. It's a shame another one of Bryan Fuller's classics had to end so soon. Third season finally gets into the Red Dragon and even though I feel as the beginning might have been a little too slow, it all but makes up for it. Bryan Fuller never ceases to amaze me. 10.5/10 if I could because it's a masterpiece of the flesh pie.

If you have seen the first two seasons, then you've got to see this. You definitely need to watch it all in order for it to make sense, especially if you have never read the books by Thomas Harris or seen the movie adaptations. It's an incredible series. I hope they make a fourth season! Fingers crossed! Having said that, if a fourth season doesn't come to fruition, the final episode of Season Three ends in such a way that one will be satisfied with how it all transpires. Sooooo, so good.

By far the best TV I have watched in a long time. I have limited interest in TV recently and just happened to catch Hannibal online from Amazon and I will say the hype is well deserved. This is the best show I've seen in a very long time. The third season definitely starts off slower than the previous two but the Red Dragon story is something worth watching. I can say without hesitation that, unless you have a weak stomach, watch this show. You will not regret it.

I loved this show. Season three essentially retold the stories of the films Hannibal and Red Dragon. The "Hannibal" part actually got a bit slow for my taste, but I think the Red Dragon part was my favorite telling of the story (as compared to Manhunter and Red Dragon). It ends in a way that is "good enough" to close out the series, but leaves you wanting more anyway. Here's hoping it eventually gets picked back up. Needless to say, if you watched seasons 1 & 2 you need to watch this.

I thought the first two or three episodes wandered aimlessly, but it picks up through the later episodes. I think it was the weakest of the three seasons, but it was still good. It is disappointing that the series was cancelled. It was definitely was one of the most visually artistic series in recent history. I do hope it can come back in one form or another in the future.

Hannibal will be discovered by folks down the line and they'll wonder how they missed it. I find myself wondering how it was on the air as long as it was, considering how unique it is, how difficult it is to mass market, and...well, NBC has no clue how to promote television shows anymore. We're lucky we got three seasons, and this third season is exceptional stuff.

I wanted to catch up on this show and it only made me want to watch all the films now which I will probably have to buy a few of them. So, well done. Some great performance by some newbies and such a delight to see Gillian Anderson and learn about Hannibal. Some of the changes from the movies is disconcerting but I dealt with it. Sad to see the show end.

I can't say enough about how great this whole series is. It's like watching art. I watched all of these episodes as they aired but going back and watching them again really gives the viewer the chance to analyse how great each episode is constructed. Do yourself a favor and buy these Blu-rays for the best possible viewing.

Continuing the great job of seasons 1 & 2, season 3 builds on the later material from the big screen movies. But with new and different takes. Ah, down on the farm takes on a whole new meaning...Too intelligent for mass network tv viewers and too gory for the causal it was cancelled. But you can enjoy the video forever.

Although the TV series deviates considerably from the book series, the directing, writing, and acting are truly a treat. This season isn't as strong as the second, but the treatment of the Red Dragon story is compelling. This series ended much too early. Truly one of the very few bright spots on network television.

The writing for this show just keeps getting better. I'm a big fan fan of this genre of shows, movies, books and the show is really getting closer to coinciding with the book, albeit it's very condensed. They really hit the nail on the head with the actors, they really fit the part. Keep up the great work.

"Hannibal" ends on a high note with episodes in Italy and a fetching performance by Gillian Anderson. The story has been engrossing all along, but I never really liked Hugh Dancy all that much. Mikkelsen grew on me with each season. Looks great on Blu-ray; extra features could be better, though.

The Hannibal series has always intrugued us. This is a dark and psychological drama that will have you rooting for the bad guy. Visually stunning; this season, like others, serves as an interesting study in the human psyche that should be seen by both psychologists and film students alike.
