Customers commend the CONNECT QUATRO Tuner's multiple tuners, ease of use, and excellent picture quality, frequently praising its DVR functionality and straightforward setup. However, some users express concerns regarding the channel guide and software, suggesting areas for potential improvement in the user interface and overall software experience.

This is the 3rd HD Homerun unit that I purchased from Silicondust. Each time they get better and better. This time I want to add more tuners to my existing network. With adding this for tuner unit I now have access to 6 tuners at any given time. It works seamlessly with my Sony PS3, my Amazon Fire TV my Samsung View tablet, my smartphone, my PC and even my LG smart TV. When I upgraded I also purchased the DVR subscription. I love it. I love the way it gives you options and offers wide range of compatible devices. The initial set up was easy and quick, however it has dropped off the network once since I installed it 30 days ago.

I can't believe I waited so long to buy one of these. I've been thinking about getting one for some but was not sure how it would actually work until I tried it thanks to being fed up with Comcast.
Set up is really easy. One coax connector, one power connector, and one network connector. With a $10 digital antenna connected via coax and plugging the unit into my home network using Ethernet, I can immediately get around 50 free, OTA (over the air) channels and watch them on any device including my TVs. I use my SiliconDust HDHomeRun Cuatro network TV tuner with Plex server software and was very pleased to be able to watch local channels, sports, and other OTA content plus everything in my own media library anywhere on any mobile device including while traveling, even overseas. None of the blackouts I frequently experienced trying to stream my Xfinity channels using their app.
I am glad I bought the Quatro (4 tuner) version so I can watch and/or record multiple programs simultaneously. The price difference was very modest over the 2 tuner version.
Unfortunately, I am not completely ready to "cut the cord" because my wife and daughter are hooked on a traditional TV remote control at each TV vs. having to run or switch to a streaming app in order to watch live content. But we are getting close which in the first month alone would save me more than the cost of the HDHomeRun Quattro. To fully cut the cord in my home, I would also need a subscription to a premium streaming service like Hulu, Sling, Youtube TV, etc. but that would still be much cheaper than my cable subscription. The problem then is still having multiple streaming services to switch between to get everything they want to easily watch. We are getting there....
The HDHomeRun set up is trivially easy. For streaming out of your home over the Internet, it helps to have a good, high speed connection, obviously. I am pleased that the tuner does not put too much traffic on my home network at all and I can still stream other content while watching live OTA programs.
As hinted above, Plex really makes the unit come alive for me. For $5 / month (or less if you buy a longer term) running on some device that's always on (I use a Mac mini), you have a comprehensive local program guide, very good DVR capabilities, all in addition to live TV from OTA channels your antenna receives. You can watch this on any device (Smartphones, iPads, Laptops, game consoles, AppleTVs, FireTVs, Rokus, smart TVs, and more.) And, the video quality at 1080p for most OTA channels received is HIGHER than local channels on Xfinity or U-Verse. You will immediately see the difference.
I tried the HD HomeRun software, Channels app on IOS, and a few others and for my use, they were not as comprehensive, powerful, or easy to use as Plex. However, those are good options as well based on the reviews I found.
I recommend giving the HDHomeRun digital TV tuner a try to really understand what it can do. It's not for someone completely non-tech, but it also does not require a PhD in home tech to wonder why you did not try it sooner (even if like me you still pay for cable).

Quite an extensive review! Thanks much! Two points worth making. First, you are absolutely right about blackouts. With Over the Air TV, you never have to worry about missing a game because some cable company couldn't negotiate rates with CBS anymore. Second, ease of use is often in the eye of the beholder. For people comfortable with Plex, it's definitely just worth continuing to use Plex. The HDHomeRun software and Channels are both designed more around people coming from a cable box background, or even a background where they just flip the channels on their TV. And those apps are intended for people comfortable with those scenarios.
In fact, many would argue the single easiest app to setup and use these days would be the HDHomeRun app combined with an HDHomeRun SCRIBE, since then you get a DVR built right in and no need to set anything up at all. But ultimately, it all comes down to personal preference.
Again, thanks much for this review! Hopefully people will find it helpful!

First you need to keep in mind, it only works as well as YOUR antenna allows it. Ibput one of those big arrorlw looking antenna in my attic, also from bestbuy, and worked well enough, just not super clear downstairs. I also missed a guide of sorts, at least coming up next. I hate cable prices, but dont mind the 30-40 I pay between Netflix, hulu, funimation and Amazon each month.
Then the makers of hdhomerun put out a roku channel. Let me tell you, it was very easy to set up. I unplugged the cable for TV in my upstairs office and hooked it up to hdhomerun. Plugged the cat6 cable in directly to my switch and then the power. Head over to my.hdhomerun.com on a device on the same network and its already ready to go! So after installing the hdhomerun channel, I go to my roku, and it shows all 46 channel I get in my area, and all are clear, same quality on all 4 TVs.
The channel guide isn't the best, it gets 4.5 out 5 stars, but that's on the roku app. It's easy to use, I just would prefer a vertical menu instead of horizontal.
Best part is since I use roku only, I dont have to leave my roku device to get live TV. HD homerun will stream to mobile devices on your home network such as iPad or android phone. I tried on my note 8 and loads just as fast and its clear.

Just like with the old analog antennas you must position the antenna correctly for the best experience. I recommend either an outdoor anteanae or a powered indoor positioned in a window towards your prominent signals. The optional purchase of the DVR Service is great. Plex software also works great but isn’t as realiable with the recording yet. I use Plex to watch outside the home network and HDHomeRun software to watch inside. Would VPN from the outside of Oncould for a better experience. Great on fire stick, Xbox one, iOS, PlayStation 4, and Roku. TvOS support is wonky with 3rd party only app support. Hoping they will get the first party app up and working soon so the Apple TV will be all I need.

First, let me say this device is AMAZING! Works great with my Nvidia Shield TV 2017. One major issue I had that almost caused me to return the HDHomeRun - Connect Quatro Tuner was after setting up I would receive an error message of "Unable to play channel" "No video data" even though the channels I was receiving this error for (CBS and NBC) I get great signal so I figured it wasnt a signal issue.
After rebooting my network several times, moving splitters, bypassing splitters I jumped on google and saw others were having this same issue. Someone suggested downloading the latest BETA Firmware https://forum.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=126&t=20613&sid=d98c9b1e37090c82ff25c13f70db826b. ***Note- Just updating to the latest Firmware does not fix this issue. You need the BETA firmware. I had the latest firmware and was still experiencing these errors. After I did this, I rebooted everything including the HDHOMERUN, network switch, router and NVIDIA Shield TV. FINALLY! No more issues!!!
I have been enjoying this setup for almost a week and not one "Unable to play channel" "No video data" issue. They really need to fix this as I am sure others have returned this device (just as I almost did).
I gave this 4 stars only because of the frustrating setup and configuration hassle. Besides that...5 STARS!

This thing has 4 tuners. You can watch live shows at the same time (using 4 different devices). I use it in conjunction with Plex for DVR and its been flawless. The quality of video from over the air is much better than any satélite, cable or web TV service. I can watch my over the air channels with this device on my Amazon fire TV, Roku, PS4, Mac computer, PC, iOS or Android devices. They offer a DVR service for a small monthly payment but I had not used it. Highly recommend.

I had the earlier two tuner model and was very happy with how it worked, but needed more tuners to cover whole house. This was a great solution and I now have 6 tuners. My y only disappointment is that there are no indicator lights on the device. The two tuner model had two leds to let you know the tuners are in use and one for power. This unit has none. It is a plain box and you have to use web browser to check the status of the unit. For this reason, I deduct one star.

This box is awesome if you have "cut the cord" or if you are considering it then count this into your configuration! It is simple to set up and use, especially for anyone not tech savvy just remember you need a 2.4ghz wifi network to connect to! If it's not working then make sure you are still connected to the same wifi network as the HD home connect! I have one good antenna setup and this box is between the antenna and my wifi router. I can now receive my local channels on any of my fire TV boxes/sticks or android or iPhone :)

Couldn’t be more simple for cord-cutters!

Wow, I didn’t expect this to be so easy! I’ve been wanting to cut the cord (sorry Directv) for quite some time. I purchased an over-the-air (OTA) antenna, with amplifier, and intended to “wire it into” the cabling system in my home (using the same input into the splitter where the Directv satellite came in) to feed signal to 5 different outlets / TVs in our home. Then I discovered the HDHomeRun! What, no wires?
I purchased the HDHomeRun and in two simple connections (power and Ethernet cable into a WiFi extender in my garage), I am broadcasting over-the-air TV in HD throughout my home. I chose to buy the “Channels” app in the Apple App Store which works EXTREMELY well, rather than the free HDHomeRun app (just ok, but works). Now I can broadcast the over-the-air TV signals wirelessly to my families iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs... WITHOUT WIRES! LOVE IT!
If you’re considering cutting the cord, and looking for easy options, then consider the HDHomeRun Connect with multiple tuners as the ideal solution. You’ll need a good OTA antenna to capture HD TV signals from broadcasting stations, a good WiFi network in your home (add extenders with Ethernet port if needed, in case you can’t get the antenna wired to the HDHomeRun Connect, which must hard-wired to your wireless network router - remember, a wireless extender works fine, too), and download the apps to your Apple devices, and you’ll be basking in cord-cutter, saving all kinds of money glory!
NOTE: The “Channels” app works great for Apple products, and I understand they’re moving toward Android, too. I haven’t tested it with any Android devices (Nvidia Shield TV, etc.), but expect they will get it right when it’s available. Search for “Channels” in your device’s App Store.
Lastly, I have recently subscribed to Directv NOW to get ESPN and other “favorite” non-OTA channels and Premium Channels... and I’m still saving over $100 per month compared to Directv satellite service... and still, I’m all wireless, and able to watch TV on my iPhone, iPad, or Apple TVs. This enables me to watch TV on my deck now, with a TV and Apple TV on a small cart I can easily move onto the deck, or garage, or driveway... wherever, as long as I’m able to access my home WiFi network!

I am running this with a QNAP NAS with a Plex Media Server and Channels DVR streaming to an Apple TV 4K. The HDHomeRun Quatro has 4 TV Tuners so you should always be able to record and watch whatever you want. I had a TiVo OTA before I bought this and was tried of paying $15 a month. Now with the HDHomeRun and Channels DVR, the cost is down to about $6.66 a month when you pay for 1 year at $80.
The HDHomeRun is very easy to setup. All you pretty much have to do is plug it into your Antenna and it will auto detect what Channels are in your area. You can login to the HDHomeRun and edit the channel list or re-scan for channels if you want. I Live in MN and using the HDHomeRun paired with a Winegard HD8200U Platinum VHF/UHF HDTV Antenna on my Roof using a Winegard LNA-200 Boost XT HDTV Preamplifier, I was able to find about 50 use able Channels. The TiVo was only able to get about 35 to 40 Channels. So I gained about 10 to 15 channels with the tuner the HDHomeRun is using.
The Channels DVR Server is very easy to work with and setup. The Channels DVR App on the Apple TV and my iPhone and iPad is also very easy to use. After setup I am able to watch TV and my recorded TV Shows anywhere I have internet at. Overall I am very happy with everything and would highly recommend this product to anyone that has Plex Server or Channels DVR.

Particularly for users of Apple TV, the Channels DVR app is absolutely fantastic, and really fits in with the Apple design style. Awesome to hear that you gained so many channels with our hardware! Normally, how many channels you get primarily has to do with the type, position, and power of your antenna, more than the tuner itself, but personally experiences can always vary! Thanks so much for the review.

Solid Tuner. Antenna Amplifier is a MUST Have
Posted .

I purchased the Quatro tuner in November of 2017. No issues. I mostly use Mediaportal (not for newbies) to watch and record my OTA TV, but from time to time use the HDHomeRun app which works just fine and looks decent. I've also done a few trials of Plex, and also had a good experience with the two paired (Plex + Quatro). Overall no complaints. It's true the signal gets weaker everytime you split the incoming signal, and I can understand the frustration some people are having with the Quatro; but if you have a decent antenna with a digital amplifier (digital amplifier is a MUST have), you should be fine. I personally use a Winegard Flatwave -- best antenna out I've come across. Random side note, the Mohu Sky was a $120 joke. Anyhow, this review is about the tuner, and my point being the tuner works only as good as your antenna can pickup the signal.

The tuner definitely depends on an antenna that does the job. One alternative solution to boosting the antenna is to simply place it higher in the building. Since it doesn't matter where the antenna or the HDHomeRun sit, as long as there's a way to connect to an ethernet port, you could theoretically put your antenna on the roof or in the attic and get much better signal. There's definitely no reason to worry about rabbit ears next to the TV anymore! Thanks for the review, and welcome to the HDHomeRun family!

I connected this using a Mohu Sky 60 Antenna. I was able to get 67 channels. This works flawlessly on the Mac, IPad, iPhone, Xbox one, Amazon Fire stick, LG TV (with DLNA). On the MS PC’s I did have some issues where the app would give me a message that there was no receiver. It works after a few retries. However that does not bother me as that’s not my primary device to use this. The primary uses was for thebasement TV. The Antenna is in the attic and this device really solves the problem of providing TV to multiple devices where I can’t run a cable. Haven’t used the DVR function as I still have my satellite connection. Great product. Highly Recommend it.

Pros: Reliable when mated to the right set-up, Performs as I expected. The native HD Homerun software for viewing live TV is fast and has great picture/sound quality on the computer, the Fire TV Streaming Box App, and on Android.
Cons:
Software Limitations:
The software has no traditional grid-based program guide, although the guide it has is still functional, simple to use, and very very quick. You need to pay extra for DVR functionality (or roll your own DVR software solution) and to get extended program guide information multiple days out.
Hardware Limitations:
The tuners are not going to do as great a job at fixing weak antenna signals as you are probably used to with most built-in television tuners like you'd get with a Sony flat-screen TV. Part of that is the nature of sharing 1 signal with 4 tuners (as opposed to just 1 tuner in a TV). However, from my testing, I've observed that it's not entirely the number of tuners, but also the nature of the tuners themselves. They are fairly sensitive to less than ideal signals so for this to work reliably for you, you will need to put in the effort (and possibly some money, if needed) to make sure that your OTA signal coming from the antenna is strong and of good quality. I would suggest looking into a good quality outdoor antenna and a good pre-amp.
The shielding of the device itself could leave a little to be desired. I've noticed that if you move the device around on a desk, your signal quality and strength can change a bit based on the box's proximity to other pieces of computer equipment you have nearby. That hints that the shielding is not as great as it could be.

Thanks for the review! For users reading this, we definitely always recommend doing some homework and figuring out what the local over the air signal situation is before buying. We also recommend avoiding buying additional hardware before you've tested whatever antennas you already have available, as signal can definitely vary by location, and there's no reason to buy more than you absolutely need.
As for this review, it definitely sounds like you've been doing your homework and testing! If you do have any specific issues, feel free to contact us at [email protected]!

I love receiving free over-the-air HDTV via an antenna, and this takes it to a whole new level. If your friends that have cable, satellite or a streaming service are making you jealous by their ability to watch things on their phone, then you need this. Plug your antenna into the HD HomeRun instead of directly into your TV and then connect it to your router. Now, you can watch all of your OTA channels right on your phone or tablet. The picture quality is flawless (as long as you setup your antenna correctly). There are also apps available on your streaming device such as Apple TV that allow you to watch it the new-old-fashioned way with your connected TV/device. This is also great if you have PLEX setup as it can record just like a DVR and with 4 built-in tuners, you won't miss shows that are on different channels at the same time.
