I've been an HDHomeRun Prime user for about 6 years now and that product has always been great. A year ago I decided to set up an HDHomeRun Extend with an attic antenna and I just wasn't happy with the signal loss or degradation (broadcast towers are about 50 miles away) plus it required any Xbox 360 I was using as a WMC extender to be actively logged into Xbox Live in order to process the live TV signal from the tuner which was a pain in the butt with 4 different extenders in the house. I ended up returning that product. This new HDHomeRun Quatro model has fixed all of those issues and also added another tuner to the mix. My signals with the same attic antenna are flawless and I have zero signal loss or degradation. It's even picking up another set of channels outside of my viewing area that the Extend didn't receive. The only feature I wish it had are status LED's like my Prime has. Other than that I'm very happy with this product so far. I've disconnected the Prime for now and we are doing just fine on OTA television thanks to the HDHomeRun Quatro.

I recently bought the Plex pass and this lets let record up to 4 channels at once, and i can watch it on all my portable devices. Easy to setup and it works perfect. Single house with an over the air antenna on top of the house picks up 150+ channels.

I purchase HDhomerun extend before, it works great. But only can record two shows at a time. Right now, this model has 4 tuners, I am glad that I can record all the shows I like at the same time.

Working pretty well for Plex Live TV

I recently canceled my horribly expensive Directv subscription but i still wanted to be able to record live local ota(over the air) tv. This unit, along with Plex software, has been working pretty well. Plex Live TV is not perfect and at times there are bumps in the road with Plex. As to this unit specifically, my only wish for improvement would be to make it's tuners a bit a better at pulling in the signal. (reason for 4 stars) Having quad-tuners is nice as i have yet to run into a situation were I had more than 4 programs set to record at the same time. Setup is very simple whether using Plex or HDHomeruns software.

I have a friend that just loves this. He has the 2 tuner model. So when this one went on sell I had to try it. Setup was a breeze. But the thing that really sold me on it was the addition of support in Plex on a NAS. Recording local channels is not something I have done very often. Now that I have this device I find myself doing more of this. And the fact that you have 4 tuners means everyone can record what they want to watch and not worry they will have to stop a recording just to watch a different channel. For the price I paid it was not a hard decision.

It's awesome how easy Plex makes it to fill out a library using an HDHomeRun and a bit of time. Even cutting out all the commercials! We noticed the rating was not quite perfect. I have tested several products and this one is the best. I was able to get additional channels just with this device alone and a simple outdoor antenna placed in the garage. I use it with a wired internet extender. To setup the DVR and I used PLEX lifetime subscription, since I don't want to pay for monthly subscription. You can eliminate weak channels. A heads up to check the device when opening the box, since I had to return it the first time since the box stated QUATRO but inside the box had a DUO. BestBuy gracefully exchanged it for the correct one. The manufacturer Support Team is very ignorant and thought the issue was on my end. BestBuy comes through as always though.

Sorry to hear about that box mixup. Haven't heard that one before. Hopefully it's a rare one. But as long as you have the right device now, that's what's important. On the other hand, I'm glad to hear it's working great for you! If you're in for long term storage of your favorite shows, Plex is absolutely a fantastic option. Welcome to the HDHomeRun family!

This is a piece of hardware that allows you to receive a signal from your over the air antenna and integrates it into your home network. Easy install, just power, your network cable and a cable to your tv. After that install the app on your computer, scan for local channels and then you can watch local TV on any device on your home network that has the app installed. It has the ability to be a DVR, but you have to subscribe to the service for $35 / year. This is also compatible with Apple TV and Android boxes such as Nvidia Shield.

I have 4 tv's in the house with 1 antenna. The splitters and wiring all reduce the signal. This item was the answer to my antenna life. On the downside you also need a firestick or roku or Google Chrome for each tv you want to get the antenna signal to, non issue if it's built into your tv. Other than that setup is amazingly easy. Run 1 line from antenna to HD homerun box and this box sends the signal out to the rest of your house via wifi. Much less wiring and the picture is fantastic. Highly recommended if you are cutting your ties with the cable company. I'm glad I did and I'm glad I found this product.

Thanks for the review! We're pretty proud of how many devices we support, but we should note that watching HDHomeRun content on Roku or Chrome is only supported through 3rd party apps like Plex or Emby. The HDHomeRun app works on many devices, but not those. For a full list of supported devices, see https://www.silicondust.com/live-tv/#devices

Works very well but not as easy or in-expensive as its product info lets you believe. First of all it is a resource hog. Not only do you have to have a PC or NAS on all the time to make use of the recording features but that unit has to be a better more expensive one. Also you must purchase software to do this unless you are a Kodi Mavin and can set up a system yourself. I found the Android software to be a bit buggy. It does work but I believe it is over-hyped.

For hopefully a bit of clarity, Live TV does not require any software purchase or PC/NAS to be on. However, if you do want to use the DVR features, you will need a device that can handle DVR. If you'd rather not use a PC or NAS, many people have had great success using an NVIDIA Shield. Our goal is to be the simplest and also to provide users with the most options. In the case of DVR, we are proud of how many options users have, but definitely still working on being easiest. Thanks for the review! Oh, and feel free to contact [email protected] or our forums if you find any bugs in the Android software. We're always up for solving problems!

I purchased the SiliconDust HDHomerun connect Quatro to expand my Plex server capability and add DVR functionality. It was simple to setup and worked perfect right out of the box. No complex setup required. I am able to setup recordings and watch them from my devices that run Plex. There are exceptions however. Several of my smart TV's that have a Plex app, but that hasn't been updated for a very long time does not work with the Live TV feature of Plex. But the live TV does work on my computers, tablets and phones with a up to date Plex app.

Sounds like you've got everything in order! One suggestion. While it won't work for Live TV, you can always record a show and send it into your library. Once there, Plex will happily transcode it and show it on even the oldest apps out there. Then you can just delete those shows if you don't care to keep them around.

Bundled this with a very high band HDTV antenna on the roof. Now I’m getting over 25 channels in a very rural area. Definitely keep the cable length the shortest possible to the port or amplifier that you may want to use with this and you will be very satisfied. The picture through this is sharper than through my cable or satellite previously. Definitely consider paying for the DVR service which is only dollars a month. Very few for a great service that actually works.

Purchased silicon dust Quatro to add live over the air TV to my Plex media server. Wanted the ability to watch live TV and record broad cast shows. Setup was a breeze and Plex found the tuner right away. A few clicks and I was going. Absolutely no complaints! I've tried the Android app a bit too and it works, but I primarily watch through Plex. Many users can save some money and get the two tuner version, but I wanted flexibility of four tuners for future growth.

The great thing about the HDHomeRun is the options available. You can use Plex or the HDHomeRun app or both, if you want, and it all works. And you can start with 2 or 4 tuners, and buy another Quatro or Duo and to the service it will seem as though you just expanded the total number of tuners you have to 4 or 6 or 8. A Quatro on Plex is definitely a great way to start!

Very small, low power required, works right out of the box with Plex. A good antenna and this device and you get free OTA TV!!! Really like that there are 4 tuners. The only caveat that Is annoying is that you can’t set the IP address manually, has to be DHCP. You can reserve an IP with your router but it would be better if you could set a static IP. This would have bumped my rating to 5 stars...

It works, your local network may not

The HDHomeRun did work for me, the quad tuners worked fine. What didn't work well was my network. That may be different now, I've made some improvements on our LAN, but I was having lots of problems (pixelation, etc.) due to the fact that what goes on your local LAN is whatever speed that the TV station in question is going. For example, if your local TV station is 1080i or 1080p, that requires a lot of reliable internet bandwidth on your LAN. You can't take a lower resolution to make the signal more reliable, you're stuck with whatever the local station is doing. After I had speed problems with my LAN that made the HDHomeRun essentially unusable for me (in addition to having no Roku app), I found the Tablo. Got a 4-tuner model of that, and am using it a lot. You can turn the speed of the Tablo down to the speed that your network can handle. And there's a Roku app for it. So I highly recommend taking a look at the Tablo before buying the HDHomeRun, unless you have a very fast, reliable home network.

Bandwidth problems are one major reason we require the HDHomeRun to be connected directly to the server, rather than over Wifi. Once connected, most modern wifi networks should have more than enough bandwidth for even 1080i content, but if this is an issue for you, we do also have a device call the HDHomeRun Extend, which transcodes down to a more manageable bitrate for weak wifi signals. You can also use software products like Plex or Emby for the same purpose.

I have been a fan of HDHomeRun devices for years. My old Duo model died after years of service on Windows 7 and Windows Media Center (which has been discontinued). With this device I have upgraded to Windows 10, and the networked device steams live TV and my recordings all over my network. The free software for Windows 10 and my iPhone work well, although they do not allow for streaming to remote devices off your network. SiliconDust, the manufacturer, charges $35/year for TV listings and the ability to record live TV to your computer storage device. Watching live TV works out of the box, and gives you one day of listings without charge. The device also works very well as the tuner for other software packages like Channels DVR, etc. Some of these services do allow for remote streaming. I have had a couple of occasions to speak to their technical support. While it took a couple of days for them to call me back, when I did speak with them they were excellent.

I bought this tuner to enable viewing of my antenna signal on all my computing devices since I only have 1 tv in my house. It works great, and suits my needs well. The setup was a tiny bit tricky because where I initially tried to install it didn't have a strong enough antenna signal (multiple splitters between antenna and tuner). I had to get a new 2-way splitter that didn't degrade the signal strength so severely, and put the tuner in my attic closer to the antenna; after that, it's worked great.

Thanks for the review - the set up of the antenna is key - too many splits / too much amplification - all can be issues - so glad you found the solution
