Looks like a dream for gamers... on paper.

I had been looking forward to the H8F since it's announcement at CES 2019.
It had everything a person would look for in a mid-high range display at an entry level price.
The H8F seemingly has everything a person could need as a movie and gaming fan.
Android is the OS of choice and once set up which is even quicker if you have an Android device, the UI is fairly intuitive and quite fast.
Hisense uses a in house developed processor deemed the hi-view chip. This controls all aspects of the picture processing.
Hisense also offers a pretty substantial amount of picture adjustments not normally found on a display at this price point.
On paper you have a VA based panel which offers deep black levels and excellent contrast. You pair that with a full array local dimming backlight (32 zones) and this should fit in any home theater.
The display supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR formats. Peak brightness tops out at around 700nit, which is plenty bright for HDR content as well.
The phosphor coated led's are used to achieve the wide color gamut.
The display offers a low input lag for gaming (game mode) of around 15ms.
The built in speakers do a pretty good job of offering a well rounded audio experience. They won't replace a dedicated sound system, but they do a great job across all content.
And that is where the on paper dream ends.
The display is 60hz with backlight scanning to achieve the advertised 240 motion rate. The pixel response time on the other hand seems to be pretty low compared to other VA based panels used by other value display manufacturers.
This results in some minor motion blur, but also introduces overdrive trailing or smearing in panning shots.
Film based content doesn't appear to be affected in the same way as gaming, due to the player controlled camera in game.
If you play a game with a lot of shadow detail like Days gone or Gears of war you'll see a short flowing trail on the edge of moving object.
This may not be as apparent to some users, but I am simply very sensitive to this motion artifact.
I don't believe the H8F has a true 10 bit panel. There can be some major color banding and posturization in sky boxes or interior areas with a lot of shadow detail.
All for corners are slightly darker than the screen as a whole, which causes an issue of its own. When local dimming is employed on the set when in motion it can cause a red distortion in all 4 corners of the TV.
The fix for gamers is to not use game mode which eliminates most of these issues, but at a slight hit to input lag.
The hi view chip seems to artificially sharpen the image, but lowering the sharpness from its preset 5 will not remedy this it will lead to a slightly soft focus look.
It looks as though there is vaseline smeared on the lens.
The next part may vary from screen to screen, but my unit has some severe DSE (dirty screen effect).
This appears as large verticle areas that are slightly distorted and often grayish in color against blue skies or hockey rinks.
If your only use for the H8F is streaming content or UHD blu ray watching than I can recommend this set, but as a gamer I would simply say take the above things into consideration.
The few issues may be worth it to you from a price to performance perspective.

The HiSense 50" 4K Smart TV is epic in more ways than one. Aesthetically it is extremely sleek, and it's so thin I couldn't even believe it would be able to stand without tipping from the slightest movement, but don't be fooled by its minimalistic design it is extremely sturdy in fact it has already survived two earthquakes without any tipping!
The quality of the display is breathtaking, the 2160p definition paired with my Apple TV is just awe-inspiring. I also learned shortly after setting it up that I could control the TV not only with the remote but can tell my Amazon Alexa to turn up the volume, it also works with Google Home as well and the remote that is included with the television also has Google Assistant built-in.
I haven't even finished exploring the thousands of apps available on the TV's Android-based app store but there is something for everyone from games to your essentials like Youtube and Netflix.
There is very little to complain about this beauty, the only downside f I have experienced is the TV's interface can tend to lag a little bit which can be a tiny bit cumbersome but overall for the price this TV is an amazing value and I would highly recommend it for anyone looking to upgrade their current home television.

The slowest glitchiest software I’ve ever seen. Tv either goes blank or constantly dimming or brightening on its own and sometimes can’t detect any inputs.

Hello Brandon, Thank you for your interest in the 50H8F. We're sorry that you are having issues with the software being slow. We do apologize for this inconvenience. Please try checking for a software update. Please disable the local dimming option in the picture settings under backlight and the unit will no longer automatically adjust the lighting. I give them props for the look and space but the temperatures are not good at all, the fridge compartment is too warm even on the coldest setting and the freezer doesn't freeze even on the coldest temp. Ive had this for 3 days and all of our food has gone bad.

With all the TVs available today, it is very difficult to find one with just the right features that you will really use instead of one packed with things that you won’t see again after the initial novelty wears off.
The Hisense 50” H8F 4K TV is one of those with so many useful features that you will wonder why you waited so long to try it out! I was overwhelmed for the first few days with what now seem to be basic features.
Right out of the box, the setup was very simple and we were up and running within a few minutes of the update on the Android system. The interface is very intuitive and responsive, leaving us with a very good impression right off. By using my smartphone, I had the TV set up and my favorites ready right away.
Pluto TV is an interesting site, that seems to have way too many ads for the amount of time watching the selected program, but it is free and offers a ton of content. Despite the ads, we end up watching it quite often. Other “apps” are pretty easy to set up as well.
The quick access buttons on the remote allow easy access to Netflix, Youtube, Google Play and Vudu right from the remote. With Chromecast built in, it is also simple to stream content from most devices right to the screen.
The screen has a very narrow bezel, with almost the entire front taken up by the panel itself. The sound is decent, but I found that the remote controls my LG sound bar without any setup required at all. Threw me off at first since I never turned it on but the sound was coming from the wireless sub as soon as I turned the TV on.
The screen is very bright with good colors - much better than I expected in this price range. It is amazing what we can get these days packed into an inexpensive device. We haven’t had any problems whatsoever from any of the features and every time we press a button, the set responds quickly.
Most new devices take a little while to become comfortable with in our home, but this TV has taken no time to settle in and seem like it has been there the whole time!
I would have no problem recommending this TV to anyone looking for a smart TV with lots of useful features.

I got this TV to replace our old Mitsubishi 65" 1080i CRT TV. It was 13 years old, 480 pounds, and showing its age.
The Hisense 50" TV was well packaged. It was very secure in the box. We decided to use a TV stand instead of wall mounting the TV. Installing the legs was simple. This TV is very thin and light, weighing in at around 26 pounds. A big improvement over our old TV. I had it set up and turned on in about 30 minutes. When you first turn it on, you go through the initial setup process. This is very easy and it walks you through everything. This TV has 4 HDMI connections. The first of which is the HDMI ARC connection. I also have a soundbar, Fire Stick and PS4 connected to the TV. You can rename the connections on the TV input menu to anything you would like for easy identification. The HDMI connections allow you to control connected devices with the TV. For example, if I switch the input from the Fire Stick to the PS4, the PS4 will automatically turn on. The soundbar also turns on automatically with the TV and can be controlled with the TV remote. The speakers on the TV are good, however, I just wanted better sound and more range (especially as far as bass) for watching movies so I have a soundbar.
As far as the picture, there are many options for how you would like for the picture to look. There are eight options for picture mode. (Vivid, Standard, Energy Saving, Theater Day, Game, Sport, Theater Night and Auto Mode). Vivid has bright, vibrant colors and really pops, whereas Theater Night dims the TV for lower light viewing. The motion rate 240 keeps even the fastest-moving images perfectly clear and in focus with zero pixelation. 4K UHD with HDR just looks incredible. The blacks are amazing as well. Our old TV couldn't display black very well being a CRT TV. They were mostly dark gray. When there are black areas on the screen with the Hisense TV, they are pitch black. I also use this TV a lot for gaming. I can actually play much better with the Hisense TV versus our old Mitsubishi. The picture is so bright and clear that I can see every detail. I play FPS games and being able to spot the enemy quickly is crucial. My stats have improved dramatically.
This TV integrates easily with Amazon Alexa and has Google Cast built-in. Your assistant (Alexa/Google Home) can control your TV. You can say, "Alexa, pause" and the TV will pause. The remote is easy to use and has voice control as well. It also includes dedicated buttons for Netflix, YouTube, Google Play and VUDU. Simply press one of these and you're taken directly to that application.
As someone who has been wanting a high-end Samsung TV for years, I'm thoroughly impressed with this TV. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. I would highly recommend this TV.

Impressive and Inexpensive, but...

First, be careful handling the tv, and try not to touch the screen area. The box has a big warning, and unfortunately, it's not possible to see the warning until it out!
Second, there is a learning curve for this TV that may take some time to figure out. Connecting Roku Ultra or Bluetooth device (soundbar or keyboard) may not connect right away, and I found out that powering off & on all devices and/or unplugging the power to all devices including the TV willmake it connect to the TV. Also, make sure the sound settings for speakers are set to ARC or Bluetooth, and the advanced settings are correct for your devices!
Other than limited TV Android channels and bloatware that cannot be uninstalled...
Pros:
• Very bright panel.
• Excellent contrast and color.
• High dynamic range (HDR) video in HDR10 and Dolby Vision.
• Stylish design.
• Decent sound from the speakers (soundbar is always better).
Cons:
• Android TV offers limited features such as a basic web
browser (although there are plenty of setting on the TV).
• Android TV bloatware (Did I mention that already, and yah it
sucks just like the phones did).
• A basic TV that can be difficult to control and navigate
Android TV (Roku Ultra solves that).
• No Prime Video (as I stated Roku Ultra solves that).
• Google Chromecast is horrible, as it is only for casting.
• Remote has limited connectivity to other devices and is not
true universal remote.
Finally, this TV beats all Roku TV’s for picture quality and adding the Roku Ultra makes a difference. Unfortunately, Roku TV’s do not have the performance of Roku Ultra.

Great Budget 4K Smart TV

This is my first 4K TV, and what a difference in picture clarity and quality! It's definitely worth the upgrade. It was very easy to set up, and connected to my home wifi without an issue, and the connection stays strong, which is an issue I've had with other smart devices. The only issue is the speakers, which have a slightly tinny sound, which is typical for TVs with rear facing speakers. I used a soundbar and it greatly enhanced my enjoyment. This is a great TV for the price!

Great Value; Almost There

So let's just start that this is a full blown 50" 4K UHD, with Dolby support... for under $350... It wasn't more then 2 years ago, that a system like this wasn't barely even available... and if it was you were in multiple thousands of dollars.
Easy to setup, and connect. Have your WiFi credentials ready, as you won't get the full power of the system without an internet connection. Easily mountable, and relatively light for the size of the TV. With the proper bracket, you will have this up and mounted in a very short period of time.
If you are going "cord free" you don't need anything else but a power connection and internet... Just login into the already included apps such as Netflix... and get going and watching. Simple navigation and usage.
To really take it to the next level, connect up to one of the current game systems or a 4K-UHD blu-ray player... and get some KILLER 4K content, the will jaw drop.
The only downside so far, is that the Android aspect that is included... is a tad outdated... at least the apps that are compatible. So since this is software, this can (and should) be updated via a downloaded hopefully shortly. But still having full HDMI support, you can always add your favorite streaming device for additional and expanded support.

Hisense delivered. This is a great smart Android TV and TV that looks/ watches well. The built in apps and ability to add more apps is pretty diverse, The TV function is really good but the clarity of the apps and watching videos on the Android side is simply amazing. The only thing I could not get was the voice feature to switch the viewing input to TV. I hope Hisense has a long life because their products are amazing and really impress me. I put them in the top 3 of all TV's and in the top 2 of all smart TV's. My next big TV purchase could be a Hisense and I am sure I would be very happy.

I bought this from another supplier as I had a credit coming and an additional $20 discount for a previous bad experience----so I got it for $279. First off, the picture right out of the box was disappointing until I turned off all of the artificial "enhancements" like sharpness, auto dim, energy savings, etc. I went to Rtings.com and used their settings-- I was blown away. after it was set up right. Night scenes in shows like "9-1-1" and "Blue Bloods" had so much detail I was impressed--Shadow detail was amazing and there was no noticeable black crushing in numerous scenes and shows--Heck, even my wife commented "Wow, that's a nice picture". She never said that before on our other CALIBRATED sets. Also, this TV is bright----We need this in our sun room but I will have to update my review when we get some bright sunshine here. I was worried about sports and motion, but after turning off all the artificial stuff it was fine.
Now for the bad---I am used to Roku and I have a TCL 4 series with Roku and our old TV (Samsung A650) also had the Roku streaming stick and we love it. However, the Android OS is awful! It's slow and buggy---froze up a few times and it's very "busy". There's no real rhyme or reason to the format. Also, there's numerous channels on Roku that I can not get on the Android OS. So I'm using my Roku stick until/unless Android TV gets their act together. This is an easily remedied concern as the main reason we went with the H8F was the reviews on PQ of the TV.
One last item----speakers----I have read a lot of complaints. For normal viewing they're fine and as a musician have no complaints. But if you're an audiophile, you'll want to get a soundbar....Hey, the TV is 2.8" thick, the sound is better than I expected.

The actual tv is pretty good. There is an issue of it dimming all of a sudden at time even though I’m not adjusting the setting or anything. The smart tv part of the tv is terrible though. It’s super slow and laggy. I ended up just buying a Roku and using that instead because it was just that bad.

The television itself is good, however, you don't just buy it for the quality of the picture. I got this due to the other features such as Google assistance and Alexa Apps. As it turns out though, those features don't work very well. The TV like most smart TVs connects to your wifi. Well, after you turn the TV off, and has an app turn the TV on, the TV cannot connect to WIFI right away, it takes an extended period of time and this is with a very strong wifi signal. The other apps on the TV are fairly easy to use, but it has to connect to WIFI which can and has taken a very long time for it to do. Overall a great picture, great sound, but the other features I'm not impressed with. This is the fifth smart TV we have and the other ones are cheaper and connect almost instantly or stay connected.

Initial reaction, out of the box, was wow.
Set up, from my Android's perspective was a breeze. Set up to the set top FiOs box, however, was confusing as shown in the manual. Once we let logic dictate the connections we were fine.
The manual also indicated a secondary stand placement but there was no specific instruction on how to attach them and the hole indicated in the manual was not sized correctly.
Picture clarity is amazing. Very easy to use.
Only "complaint", is the lack of HDMI and optical cables.
