Good Budget TV with minor issue.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decent budget TV with good picture, but does suffer from some minor issues. For me the big con is that when turned off it goes into a sleep state but when woken up I end up having to restart the TV because it doesn't connect to any of the streaming services until it's been restarted. I'm not sure if this is due to OS issue or just a bad Wirelesscard.

Great TV at this price point
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a week, I'm very happy with the picture quality of the TV. I was able to find several YouTube videos and articles explaining how best to adjust the picture settings to get the most out of the image. The default settings honestly just fine out of the box since it detects the type of content its displaying and chooses the appropriate setting. I wasn't expecting the UI to be as good as it is, but I've started using this interface more than my Fire TV stick. That's another thing. If you've got a wifi signal, you literally just have to plug the TV in and you'll start getting content. I ended up plugging in an ethernet cord just to get the best data rate, but still, I was impressed that it worked so well out of the box so quickly.

Fantastic TV for the price!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.More than happy with this. Looks better than my previous (much more costly) TV. Took a little tweaking to get the colors right. Android TV is much more responsive on this set than other TVs I have used with it.

Sleeper hit
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was blown away by the quality of this TV. You have certain expectations when you buy cheaper TVs, but this TV is fantastic. The brightness is awesome. Its just as bright as my Samsung Q8FN in the living room, which is a huge compliment. The snappy menus and apps loading very quickly makes my Samsung look absolutely slow in comparison. The only complaint I have is that when any HDR content is played via Netflix, etc, the screen settings change aggressively even when you've set the HDR settings already. It doesn't seem to remember your settings at times, which is sort of annoying, but im happy to do it getting this great of a TV at this price.

Didn't realize it would be quite such a budget TV
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a...fine television. It's big, it's got pretty good picture quality. Its native sound is surprisingly okay. What's frustrating is the software - I don't know enough about it to say whether its androidTV being annoying or if Hisense doesn't have the operating system needed to run it, but I feel like I'm constantly fiddling with picture and sound options in every single app because it forgets my settings or determines new ones for me. I suppose this could be user error, but I'm a patient, tech-minded guy who can usually find solutions to these sorts of issues. If I find myself mystified and/or frustrated with a device, I think the average person will be enraged on a regular basis while operating this TV.

Great TV at a Great Price
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall great TV - especially at this price point. Picture is clear, interface is fast, and the sound it produces is amazing. I typically go for Samsung TV's - but decided to change on this one as it was going out on a porch - and the price was right. I am happy with the decision. Samsung volumes are tough - and really need to get a sound bar or surround sound to hear it better. With the Hisense, it sounds just as good as my soundbars. They have done a really good job. The picture is nice and clear - not as nice as OLED, but also not the same price as OLED. Good amount of apps, and tied into google - so if you have a google account, this TV is perfect.

Pleasantly Surprised
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I currently own 2 65" LG C9 OLED panels but wanted something on the lower price scale for our bedroom. I was about to buy the new Vizio M series when I ran across this one on Best Buy. Reviews seemed convincing enough for me to pull the trigger & I'm very happy I did. SDTV is good, definitely some fading off center, but switching over to Dolby Atmos on Netflix really shows what this TV can do. I would say I'm more impressed with this TV than the C9's just based on the quality for value comparison. I would say feature & performance wise, this rivals $1,000+ TV's so if you're in the market for a cheaper, yet impressive experience, give it a shot.

Game changer picture quality for under $400 range
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first QLED TV and I am impressed. In dark room it has picture quality easily comparable with $2000+ dollar TVs. Being an AndroidTV offers all the apps you will ever need + more :)

For the price, you won't beat this
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.(I received this product in exchange for my fair and unbiased review.) TL;DR - the Hisense 50H8G is the TV that you’d likely pick up for your bedroom but you may want to put in your living room. For anyone using an Android phone, this TV set will have itself up and going in a few minutes; for those with iPhones, it doesn’t take that much longer. A great, bright, and very colorful picture no matter what content you watch. Dolby Vision and HDR10 visuals paired with a full array local dimming backlight system, high-quality sound for a modern flat-panel TV, and the plethora of features found in Android TV - including integrated Chromecast - make this a great choice. The only things I didn’t care for were bad viewing angles toward the edges, a lack of component video input, no backlighting in the remote, a weird mounting pattern, and a lack of internal storage for apps and app data. Would I buy this? Probably. Would I buy it over major brand sets with fewer features competing at the same price point? Definitely. ————————————— Unboxing and first impressions: Before even assembling the TV, the first thing I noticed is how modern it looks. Thin bezels surround the screen, giving this unit styling closer to a higher-end model from a Japanese or Korean brand. The feet that make up the stand are notable as they’re made from anodized aluminum - the same stuff that many high-end laptops and tablets are made from. The body of the TV itself is plastic, but that’s not a bad thing. The only thing at this point that seemed strange is the mounting pattern; if you’re wall-mounting this, make sure your mount supports the 300x200 mounting pattern. The TV itself isn’t so heavy that I couldn’t mount it by myself, but wasn’t so light that I questioned its quality. I got it installed and leveled by myself, a first for a TV of this size. After getting it on the wall, I found a nice surprise in the design - integrated cable management. A channel in the back can hold power and thin HDMI cables with ease, which is just as much of a benefit for those setting it on a stand or shelf as it is for those, like myself, that will install it on a wall mount. Initial setup is a breeze. (If you don’t already have a Google account, make sure you make one on a computer, phone, or tablet.) I went through the three setup methods you can use with this TV, just to get a feel for them: Android device owners - if you have an Android phone or tablet running Android 7 or later (and possible 5 or 6, but I don’t have that old of a device to test with), the TV can find your device and pull all of its needed settings over in a matter of moments. You’ll still need to log into individual streaming apps, but otherwise it’s as easy as it gets. iOS device owners - if you have a Google account, make sure you’re using the Gmail app on your phone. You’ll have to log into your wifi network manually, but then you’ll enter your Google account (as in “[email protected]”), match a number in the Gmail app, and log into your streaming apps. People without a smartphone - you’ll have to use the remote to enter this information manually. Or if you have a USB keyboard (borrow one from your computer), you can enter it that way. It’ll go through, update its firmware (which takes around 15-20 minutes after the firmware downloads), suggest some apps to download, and scan channels if you tell it to do so. Bonus for the cord-cutters - this TV has a built-in guide for those of you with an internet connection. As far as usage goes, it’s a smart TV. If you’re familiar with the way Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, or any built-in smart TV platform works, you’ll be familiar with Android TV nearly immediately. If you’re not, you soon will be. You’re greeted with a home screen that gives you quick access to commonly used apps, shortcuts to some of your streaming apps’ content (Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, and other support this functionality). Inputs are easily accessed, as are all installed apps on a home screen that’s logically laid out. Almost all the streaming apps you’d want are here - Netflix, Amazon Video, DIsney+, HBO, Showtime, CBS All-Access, and thousands of others; in fact, the only one I’d want to see added is Apple TV+ but it’s not even on Android phones yet, let alone other Android TVs and streaming boxes. The only people that may not like the Android TV home screen are those that already have Android TV devices running an older version of the OS (things changed with 8.0 Oreo). On top of streaming apps, Android TV also has apps that add functionality to the set. Need digital signage? Covered. Want to extend your PC to another room without bringing the tower out with you? Got it. Want to play a game you already have on your phone on the big screen? That game is likely in the Play Store. Want to emulate every 8 and 16-bit gaming system? Well you can do that here. Want to copy files to and from the TV as a network or FTP server? There’s even software for that! The drawback here - as with most Android TV devices - is available storage. In a world where 64GB flash drives can be had for $10, Hisense certainly cheeped out with 4GB of user storage. There are a few apps on Android Play that you simply cannot download and run due to the amount of content in the game because of this. (Nothing a flash drive can’t fix though…) So now for the meat and potatoes of why you buy a TV - picture and sound. The panel on the 50H8G is a 60hz panel and, though technical wizardry that I won’t explain here, is capable of “motion rate 240”. It has a 32-zone FALD backlighting system that helps it achieve a perfect black on one part of the picture while another is at retina-searing brightness. Dolby Vision and HDR10 are both here, and Hisense’s “ULED” is how they market quantum dots (you might know these as Triluminous, QLED, Super UHD, and Quantum X as marketed by other brands). While some of the wider viewing angles don’t provide the greatest picture, the picture is bright, colorful, detailed, and clear no matter what source you use. I’m not a fan of anyone’s motion dejutter technology, but this TV does just as well as many high-end models in this department. There are plenty of settings to adjust the picture to your personal tastes, from the basic brightness/contrast to gamma on individual color channels. Gaming mode also takes a significant chunk out of lag; while not as fast as TVs costing three times more, it’s definitely something I can live with. The audio system Hisense put into this TV is surprisingly good. While only rated at 10 watts per channel, audio is punchy, clear, and - for a TV - loud. While it doesn’t compare to a good sound bar, it’s not lacking where you’d feel a need to get even a low-end sound bar for better audio. Adjustments are basic, with sound modes instead of sliders for treble and bass. One of the included features is Dolby Atmos for TVs, though I noticed very little difference with this enabled or disabled. The remote is something I’m torn on. While it feels good, with “clicky” feeling buttons, it’s somewhat cluttered and other than the D-pad, there’s no easy way to discern what buttons are in the dark. Had this remote been given backlighting, it would be 100 times better. The TV comes with 4 HDMI 2.0 ports, 2 USB ports, composite analog video, an antenna jack, and an ethernet port for physical connections. It also supports 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4 for wireless connections. It has integrated Chromecast for streaming media from your phone, tablet, or computer; newer Android devices can also mirror their screens to this TV via Chromecast. Overall, I’m impressed. There are some minor things I’d change about this TV - backlighting the remote is the biggest thing, the addition of more onboard storage (either 32GB integrated or the option of adding a SSD or hard drive) would be the other. For a TV at this price point, however, it’s something that can’t be beat.

A serious value!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV comes with great features and tech that I didn't think I could get for less than $600-700. The full array lighting alone makes the picture so vibrant. It's a huge jump from the budget Vizio I had before. This is going to perform so well with next gen consoles. To test it out, I watched the Lord of the Rings on Blu-ray and the upscale was amazing. Make sure to use the picture settings whether you are gaming or watching movies, the motion enhancement feature is great! If you need a TV for PS5 or just for media, this one has features that could rival TVs twice its price. This is a wise investment!

Sound is as good as the picture (both are great)
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We've been wanting a bigger TV, but didn't want to deal with a sound bar. After doing the reviews and working with a great sales rep at Best Buy (Tom), we picked this Hisense 50". The sound quality is great WITHOUT a sound bar. When listening to "over the air" broadcasts, the volume is set on 24 (out of 100) but when listening on on-line shows (Prime/Youtube), the volume is only about 9 or 10. The picture is great. Considering the price point is well below other 50" class TVs, we made the right decision. Hopefully this TV will be part of the family for many years.

Great budget tv
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coming from an Android environment I really like that because Android TV for the OS. Lots of familiarity built in. I also like that it has Chromecast and Google Assistant built in, also coming from a Google environment. I don't have a 4K Blu-ray player however all the non-4K sources have seen great so far. I would have bought the H9G if I had more money but with the sale and coupon this was about half price. The only real component I have at the moment and this is for most TVs now is that the stand is not in the center.
