I had been looking to get a bigger TV for awhile and I got an email saying Best Buy had 4K Smart TV’s on sale.
Decided to get the Insignia and went to my local store.
When I got there, I noticed they had more TV’s on sale than the ad showed, so I asked one of the workers which was better, the Insignia or the Hisense, he recommended the Hisense. Keep in mind, these guys are only hourly, they don’t get commission from making a sale, so they’re upfront and honest with you. He then recommended I get the Hisense with HDR (since I bought it mainly for gaming), he told me this is what the gaming community is pushing towards. I purchased the TV, got it home, and the base legs didn’t fit properly...Took it back (I only live about 3 miles from the store, so it wasn’t a big deal), they switched me out for a different one, and I went back home. Go to set this one up and the legs also seem off, ended up just really tightening the screws, and it worked just fine. I set my Xbox up for 4K and started playing Titanfall 2 since I just bought it on sale. I was sitting close at first and noticed in dark scenes it was pretty grainy, I edited some settings (sharpen mostly) and that helped a bit, also sitting back from the TV helped a lot. Very impressed with the quality, the campaign looked phenomenal! I did run into a little issue though, which is partially why I got the 5 year warranty. I noticed that after some videos on YouTube or certain parts of some games there will be little red dots on the screen (not many, just like 3-4). My roommate said it’s a backlight issue, but haven’t researched it much. They go away after a few seconds, but just something I wanted people to be aware of. Get a warranty, you should for any TV, honestly. Also noticed that when I try to watch YouTube videos on it with the Smart TV aspect, it’s really slow off WiFi, so I recommend using an Ethernet cord. Overall, great TV, I’m very happy with it. Would definitely recommend, plus you can’t beat the price.

Went into Best Buy to buy a 55" 1080p TV and saw this Hisense 50H8C hanging on the wall and was blown away by the amazing picture quality. I had just returned the 55" TLC Roku 4K because the screen wasn't as clear if you sat farther than 4 1/2 feet away. But because this 50H8C has HDR the picture was twice as good and you can sit almost 10 feet from the TV to get the full HDR 4K effect and 12 feet away to get a picture just as good as more expensive 1080p TV's.
Unbelievable how amazing this Hisense is!! Even the sound blows away every HDTV I ever bought. The box says it uses dbx-tv stereo technology which I never heard of. But it works. Clear and and you only have to raise the volume up a fourth of the way to have LOUD clear sound not half like other TV's.
I'm truly shocked however that with all the times the Hisense rep has been on here answering questions they haven't noticed a mistake on the specs given here on this site.
- THERE ARE 4 HDMI's..... NOT 3.
- 2 of them are 2.0(4k at 60hz)
- 2 of them are 1.4 (says 4K at 30hz)
I've called up and talked to a supervisor and he said they can send me a email link I can use a USB to plug into the TV to upgrade 1 of them HDMI 2.2 so I can get a 4K UHD blu ray player
I hope that happens.
I'm being serious here. Every year I take the 2 TV's I have in my home and the 6 TV's I have in my cafes and upgrade them to a better quality picture. I will no longer have to do that. This 50H8C is the greatest quality picture of any TV I have ever owned. The screen is so perfect I would have been just as happy if it cost $1,100.
Overview of my review.....
Picture Quality- 10/10....
You do not need to spend $1,500 on a 4K TV with HDR. The fact this TV comes with a 4 year warranty unlike the big name brands speaks volumes on reliability.
Sound Quality-
9.5/10 (Without a doubt the best sound of any TV made using 2 10 watt speakers...I usually rate HDTV's 4/10 for sound)
Smart Apps- Picture Quality is great and it has the "must apps" like Netflix, Amazon, Youtube, Vudu. But not anywhere near as many as the Roku. With all the money I saved on this Excellent TV I am going to buy a Roku4 that's 4K and be in "TV Nerd Heaven".
There was a time (before my hair turned grey) that the only thing that mattered with televisions was the picture quality and sound. Not the apps and not whether some teenage kid could use his smartphone as a remote because he wanted to be a "hipster".
This TV is amazing. It is the first time I ever bought a TV outside of doing so online. I actually spent time in Best Buy and looked around and compared. I would have paid more because I couldn't believe how great it is. Because of this experience, I will now only buy from going into the store and looking for myself. I would have never bought this TV if I didn't see how incredible the picture quality was.
Last but not least......
I'm still waiting for the emailed link upgrade from Hisense to make one of the HDMI 2.2 so I can buy a 4K Native bluray UHD player. One of the supervisors from Hisense that called back told me this could be done. But I've been using all my 1080p blurays I have that are 4K upscale but not 4K Native and they look SO MUCH BETTER than on my 1080p TV's
1. Oppo 103D Darbee edition- AWESOME PICTURE QUALITY. Yes, much better than on a 1080p TV. It only uses HDMI 1.4 but the Darbee processor makes up for it.
2. Panasonic 460- Really Really Great. Yes much Better than on my 1080p TV.
3. Sony S790-YES!! Houston, we don't have a problem. Picture has majorly improved over my 1080p TV.
Sorry I babbled. I don't work for Hisesnse. But take a look at Best Buy and see for yourself how amazing the picture looks. And yes, HDR does make a huge difference.
Take care,
William

I was skeptical when I bought this TV a few months ago because of the cheap price but I'm extremely happy I bought it. I can't review it on the smart TV part, I use my Android box since it has Kodi and from what I read Kodi can't be installed on this TV. As a TV I love it!! Extremely clear picture!! The sound seems the same as any other flat TV I've heard with rear speakers. I had to switch the HDMI port my Android box was plugged into because the refresh rate didn't match making the Android box lag. The TV has 3 HDMI ports with 2 different refresh rates. When watching TV or movies the image isn't as fluent as some TVs but most people can't even tell. It took me a little bit to get used to it. Picture is always very clear just very slightly choppy since the refresh rate isn't as high as expensive 4k TVs. I'm one of the rare people that see blotches of color when watching TV/movies using some projectors. Most people's eyes don't have a refresh rate as fast as mine and can't even see it. I mentioned to my friend about this one being slightly choppy and not fluent and they acted like they either didn't notice or didn't see it. My only thing that's a little annoying is I have to use the remote it came with to change the source since it has to be selected on a menu and not scrolled through, therefore my cable remote will only change the volume and turn it on/off but can't change the source. I highly recommend this TV, not worth spending 2 to 3 times the amount because of a name brand or faster refresh rate. I would give it 4 1/2 stars if I could. I just can't give it a 5 since I can't install Kodi on it, can't use my cable remote to change the source because of the way it has to be selected, and because if the slower refresh rate.

6 years into owning this TV, it's far surpassed my expectations. Truly, it's the best TV I could have bought in the price range. Even in a world of 4K 120HZ+ media, the H850 is still holding it's own.

I finally made the leap to 4K w/ this 50" Hisense 50H8C. I did a lot of research and after 2 months of use, I am still very happy. I have paired it with an Apple TV 4K running through a Yamaha RX-V383 receiver with high speed HDMI cables (but NOT very expensive cables). We like to sometimes watch the TV with its own speakers to not shake the house and the audio is really nice on this unit. After tweaking the settings for video the image is very sharp, bright, and on an HDR10 content program, the colors are beautiful.
I had some trouble getting the ARC (Audio Return Channel) to work, but a quick call to the help center solved that problem. BTW: you need to go into the "CEC" part of the menu.
The only drawback for me is the viewing angle is not as wide as I would have liked. The image is pretty "washed out" at wide angles - but nobody in my family has complained - so it is not a big deal and I am still giving it 5 stars. Heck, I got a nice sale and spent under $400 before tax - can't beat it.
Highly recommend you look at this set/brand to see if it meets your needs before spending a bunch extra for the more well-known brands.

This is a really good TV and for the price you can't beat it. Picture is really good, easy set up just remember to update the TV as soon as you turn it on and finish your first setup. My only complaint is that when your phone is close to the remote it kinds doesn't respond to the I.R. on the TV. So if your phone has I.R. then try to keep it away from your remote. But awesome Tv.

I've only had a couple of days with the TV but so far I am very impressed. Here are a few key points:
Interface and apps are VERY fast. No lag at all.
2x 4k 60Hz inputs and 2x 4k 30Hz (1 ARC and 1 MHL)
Supports USB 3.0
Confirmed 4k on YouTube app. (see photo) 1080p on Vudu and Amazon. I don't have Netflix but have read 4k works.
Screen is very sharp. Zootopia looks awesome even in 1080p via Vudu I have sharpness turned all the way to zero. With SD or 1080p content, having a higher sharpness produces a lot of artifacts.
Even without HDR, local dimming seems to work well where dark scenes look truly dark. This is even coming from the 42" panny plasma it replaced.
The sound system is very impressive for a flat screen. Now something to be aware of is this creates a thicker portion at the bottom of the TV so the back isn't "flat", there's a lump at the bottom. This is ok for most wall mount brackets but might be iffy with very flush brackets.
Colors and contrast are stunning.

I wanted to replace my 10+ year old 1080p LED TV but did not want to pay $1000 or more for a 50-inch SUHD/Super UHD unit. After doing some research online, I narrowed down my choices to the Hisense 50H8C, Samsung 40KU6300, and the LG 43UH6100.
In the store, I immediately decided against the UH6100 as I was able to verify the claims that the non-Super UHD LG models use an RGBW pixel configuration. I verified this by taking a picture of a white section of the screen. The Hisense and Samsung models both use the proper RGB pixel configuration. Ultimately, I chose the Hisense because it has 10-bit color support and is 50 inches as opposed to the Samsung which is both smaller and only has 8-bit support for HDR. It should be noted that neither tv is a true HDR unit.
After taking the TV home, set up was easy. I was able to set up the Wi-Fi, warranty, and the "Live TV" input within minutes. Having read about certain features online, I was also able to connect a computer on the HDMI3 input to test its use as a monitor. While some sources claim that the chroma sampling is not 4:4:4 at 4K 60 Hz, I saw no fringing to indicate that. In fact, I found the TV to be quite suitable as a monitor. It also has the bonus feature that when the computer shuts off the monitor, the TV turns off.
Overall, this TV is excellent for the price. People used to the more expensive flagship models may be disappointed, especially since this unit only has a 60 Hz native refresh. Judder is likely to be noticeable in 24p content due to this fact. Viewing angles were very good for a VA panel and color brilliance is quite high when set to "Vivid". The built-in apps for YouTube and Netflix are responsive and do the job well.

I guess I would call HiSense an off brand. But after reading all of the favorable reviews for this tv and given the amazing price, I went for it. It was to replace an old plasma tv in the game room. Got it home, unpacked it and set it aside long enough to remove the plasma from the wall mount. The plasma weighs 100#, HiSense weighs what, 28#? Both 50” screens. Are you kidding me? Plugged it in, adjusted tv once to some trusted settings I found online and voila, awesome! I think it outshines the Vizio I was eyeing at the store for twice the price. Same for my brother’s new Samsung. Setup was flawless, updating was flawless and the HRD even works for PS4. Very pleased, I highly recommend!

I've had this TV for a few months now, and so far am extremely happy with it. The picture quality is amazing, especially after looking up some custom calibration settings online. The bump from 1080p to 4K was almost as dramatic as the difference from SD to HD years ago.
The Smart TV apps are actually surprisingly fast and responsive. I get 4K content from Netflix from the built-in app (after upgrading my Netflix subscription).
I mainly use it for my PS4 Pro. The picture looks stellar, and I went with this set due to both price and it's low rate of input lag (did some research online before making the purchase). I've noticed at least one game has taken advantage of the HDR that the set offers. A message popped up asking if I'd like to utilize HDR, and after saying 'yes', the PS4 briefly blacked out for a moment and came back on with outstanding color enhancements.

The picture quality of this tv was what caught my eye, even as compared to more expensive models. I walked back and forth over and over attempting to see what I was missing. So I struggled to purchase this one and after I was being rushed by my fiancé I chose to give it a chance since there is a 14 day return policy even on brand new items that have been opened. But initially it looks great on the stand or the wall. With a black border and silver bottom finish it looks a lot better than I expected in the bedroom. Of course more importantly you will definitely want to adjust it to your liking but when you do it looks great. Honestly aside from not quite as dark blacks (which are still great for a budget 4K HDR tv) and the motion processor not quite being as good as the higher end brands. The picture looks surprisingly great. It does support true HDR as well and you can even get hdr on YouTube through this set. I was disappointed that you can’t add Hulu but Netflix is there and it looks pretty good. I would still choose this over the TCL S4905 series. Not over the P-Series though. I’d say 7.5/10 only because you have limited apps but depending on your content it’s a very satisfying picture and if you’re gaming the input lag is not bad TCL’s are better in that department.

It's really hard to find a 4K Ultra HD TV with HDR for under $500. Sure, there are a lot of 4K TVs out there, but without High Dynamic Range. This was very important in order to future-proof myself because I had purchased a new HDTV of similar size two years ago. For about the same price as this one.
So far I have enjoyed this TV. There isn't a lot of 4K content, but with Hulu and Amazon Prime Instant Video's 4K offerings, I have noticed a great picture and amazing color on this unit. The only gripe I have about this model is that when viewing this TV at a far angle, the colors begin to wash. But this was at unnecessarily wide angles.
Hisense makes a good product, and I would recommend them to anyone looking.

This is a no frills 4K TV that incorcorates HDR capability in reasonably well. The picture is pretty good overall, though I think colors in non AMOLED and OLED TVs are still a far cry from plasma, they're not bad at all. I thoroughly enjoy this TV, especially for the price that I paid.
I'm docking 1 star for it's lack of apps (namely Plex) and the fact that only 2 of the 4 HDMI ports support 60Hz properly. This isn't a 120Hz set, not are a vast majority of budget priced 4K TVs, though it does a reasonably good job with motion.
Overall, a great value buy if you want 4K on the cheap with HDR.

My last TV was a Hisense and it is still working great as I use it as a secondary computer monitor. This TV I am currently using as the primary monitor. The picture is very good and the smart features work well. If you want a 4kuhd tv for a good price this is the one to get. There are only two complaints I have: 1: I do not like the new stands all of the tvs have I preferred the center stand. 2: 60hz at 1080p and 30hz at 4kuhd it would be nice to have 120hz at 1080 and 60hz at 4kuhd. Though it does not seem to be an option on any tvs yet aside from digitally enhanced (not true) 120hz/240hz
