Hisense U6G not HDR compatible with Windows 11

I bought a Hisense - 50" Class U6G Series Quantum ULED 4K UHD Smart Android TV recently. The firmware version: V0003.01.00A.L0304. The issue I am facing is the TV does not support HDR when connected as a monitor with my PC. I have Windows 11 and I see in the display setting that HDR is not supported for Windows 11. If I turn on the HDR in Windows display settings, the TV display goes dark (dimmed). Is there a way to fix this issue? Will Hisense be making a firmware update for this model soon? I see that the Android Security Patch Level is dated Feb 5, 2021 which is pretty old. Why is the patch not updated? Or am I missing something?
I also had to do some research to fix the difference between Desktop mode and Active Signal mode resolution. When I first hooked the TV with my PC, the Desktop mode had 3840 x 2160@60Hz while the Active signal mode had 1920 x 1080. My point is why would a TV of this capability and features have these issues right off the bat?
If Hisense does not fix this issue soon, I will have to return this TV and make other people aware of this shortcoming, which I feel can be resolved with a simple software update. These are the problems that none of the fast-talking wannabe-smart youtube reviewers talk about.

The set was totally intuitive and seemingly made for a 74-year-old who dislikes technology. Each screen had one task or question and very easy answers. I was able to avoid any interfacing with Google and voice command technology. The set will find the Wi- Fi networks near you. You select your network and provide the password. That’s about it. The color is so vibrant. Our cable company upgraded its transmitters recently, and this set builds upon that with black blacks, brilliant whites, and rich hews of everything in between. Sitting directly in front of the set is not necessary for excellent viewing. (N.B. Hisense provides its own video loop in some stores. The quality of the video loop in the Big Box store where we bought the set was worthless: no sharpness; worthless colors. We saw a lower Hisense model in two other stores. One set was good; the other was outstanding. Look at the website. Find a store with model that is properly set-up.) The sharpness is show-stopping. The sound’s volume is more than sufficient. We listen at 12 (interpolatively ca 12% of the control range). We chose the H6U because of the Full Array backlighting, the four HDMI ports, two USB ports, a headphone jack, and the RCA-phono ports. The USB ports allow for amazing viewing of digital photographs from a flash drive, with either manual or slideshow advance. The RCA jacks allow for our old non-HDMI DVD player to work (after figuring out the connection changes from 5 cables to 3. The set has numerous streaming Apps, including Tubi with its free TV shows and movies. We can not believe the value for the money. Despite the Cons, this is a great TV, and the Cons end up being subordinate to the Pros.
Pros:
Easy set-up; outstanding color and sharpness; plenty of volume; good viewing angle range; and a great price.
Customer support chat was easily accessible. Use of the remote is easy to learn. Major Streaming apps have their own button.
Cons:
No readily apparent User Manual. If there is one “on-board”, there should be a specific reference to how to find it in the Set-up Guide. The Hisense Support webpage had nothing re this TV other than ads. One must know how to search for options (as in setting the photo viewer to Slideshow. The Bluetooth is only for a wireless soundbars and keyboards (not headphones), according to an eventual Corporate reply. The headphone port volume is very disappointing in volume output. Changing to headphones means increasing the volume from 12 to 50. None of these are deal-breakers, but they are unnecessary problems. Again, we remain totally pleased with the H6G, despite the Cons.
N.B. I am not a Hisense employee, nor have I been paid for any review.

I got this TV at a discounted price for my honest review. I think this TV is good for the price. The picture quality isn't the clearest I've seen, but it's better quality than my old TV. I like that it's very thin and lightweight. The sound quality is good because I can hear everything clearly. I don't notice any problems with it, but I normally don't turn my TV up too loud. I did not connect this to my cable box since we no longer have cable and I did not need to connect it to a Roku since it already comes with apps set up so I can watch TV easily, but why do they have so many prompts asking me to share my information to help companies? I don't need to give my data to Google so that they can spy on me even more. This is only a problem when setting up the TV for the first time. The voice remote is very convenient because I can say a show I'm looking for and it will tell me if it's available on any of the apps. It's very nice to use this since typing out the show title is a hassle. I don't use the voice remote for adjusting the volume since that is not hard to do just by pressing the button. I primarily use my TV to watch shows on Netflix and occasionally a movie.

Now, I purchased a different Hisense TV 3 years ago, and that was a disaster, so I was very hesitant of buying one again, but for the price and what it offers, no competition. Mind the fact that I have top of the line OLED TVs, but I needed to buy a budget one because it is intended for someone who is pretty bad with technology as she completely broke one of my OLED TV in under 2 weeks, but I was shocked how great this TV is, picture is beautiful, speakers are full and clear that do get very loud, I mean at 8% people as me to lower it. I have always been a fan of Android/Google TV, and same is here, works with no hiccups. I have previous experience with TCL, Samsung, Sharp, LG, Toshiba, and Sony, but I'm so happy I decided to buy this one. Everyone turns to Samsung, but Samsung just does not support Dolby Vision, which is the type of HDR that most streaming services are going with, so that's a huge negative to Samsung, but this Hisense has them all.

I couldn't be happier.
Great price. Had it around two years and no issues. I would only get rid of it to upgrade to a newer model.
I have it in a small home office and it's more than enough for me. Tip, if you connect it to a apple 4k tv it will make the image look a alot better. Not that the image is bad but apple does some voodoo in the settings that makes the image stand out.

Lack of Manual Motion Enhancement Control
|

I bought this television for the sole purpose of watching movies and TV shows, so my review comes from this mindset. Most (if not all) film/TV is shot at 24 frames per second and is intended to be watched this way. A lot of televisions in the last decade or so have been adding motion enhancement/smooth motion/motion interpolation as to combat motion blur during live broadcasted sports. However, when these features are left on while watching a movie or TV series, it forces additional duplicated frames on 24fps content, which makes both camera and character movement smoothed out beyond the intent of its creation (some will call this the "Soap Opera Effect" since it makes things look cheaply filmed). While most televisions have a way to toggle this, either a simple On/Off or a scaled system, this Hisense U6G model doesn't. For whatever reason, when watching Standard HD 1080p content through an external device (Xbox One), the TV looks natural. However, when watching 4K UHD HDR content through an external device (4K UHD Blu-Ray Player), be it streamed or from a 4K UHD disc, or the Hisense U6G adds the smooth motion effect without any way of turning it off. I went through multiple Hisense customer service channels trying to troubleshoot the issue, but unfortunately was unable to find a solution. The television's android processor automatically toggles motion enhancement depending on that content is being played, and for whatever reason reads certain things as needing this feature, while choosing to not with others. Without being able to manually turn this off, film/TV looks unnatural and far from the filmmaker's intent. If this is a deal breaker for you as it is for me, I cannot recommend this television. Despite this, everything else about this model is terrific - the contrast, color, local dimming, and ability to be luminous while displaying HDR content is gorgeous.

We're so sorry that you're not able to adjust the motion enhancements with this model, Yes you can adjust the motion smooth. Great PC monitor or bedroom TV

I went into the store of the mind to get a monitor for my newly built PC. Initially I looked at 1440p 144hz displays in the PC section, but decided to peek at the televisions.
Most of the sets didn't impress me much, aside from the OLED sets, which are quite a bit more than I had agreed to spend on a display. I happened upon this little beauty just kinda off on its own, and I was genuinely impressed with the deep blacks and rich colors on offer.
My PC detects it as a 10-bit HDR capable display, and the gaming mode has really nice low-latency. No issues with overscan or resolution scaling - the set did default my GPU to a 30hz output, but I think that's a driver thing. It was easily corrected. 10-bit color can seemingly only be enabled with YBR4/2/2 color mode, so be aware that your HDR palette probably won't look right until you change that in your GPU settings if you're a PC user.
A little tinkering with the settings (turn local dimming to max, disable any dynamic contrast, disable auto backlight), the picture looks amazing. We haven't watched a lot of HDR films yet, but the games we have that support it really pop when they're done right; my wife has a 1080p Sony TV hooked to her PC and the difference between the two is practically night and day even though the Sony set offers a high quality picture in its own right.
The local dimming could use work, the display just doesn't have enough of the LEDs and you get bright spots that cover a significant portion of the screen when you have a dark scene with a lightly colored object. My understanding is that the larger versions have more LEDs per capita, so much less of a concern there. Personally, I think it's worth the trade-off for truly inky looking blacks.
Brightness in HDR mode definitely takes a hit over SDR modes. You could almost use this thing outdoors in SDR mode it feels so bright. With HDR content, I would dim the room, otherwise you're not going to get much out of it.
The speakers are of surprising quality, once you go in and disable the surround sound setting. I rarely have to turn the TV up past 10, and we have 2 desktop PCs running in the same room. They produce fairly rich audio for TV speakers. No replacement for a soundbar/sub combo, but genuinely good sound, especially for the price.
I haven't used the smart features yet, though I may tinker with screen casting from a PC. Neat they exist, but there's not much point when the only device connected to it does everything the TV does and then some.
It's a sharp looking set with a small bezel and thin frame. The stand seems stable and was easy to install. Lightweight, so it should work with most any wall mount.
Overall excellent set for the price. Not OLED quality, no Variable Refresh Rate support (on this model; they offer a version with it called the U6GR), no 120hz modes, the HDR brightness isn't as bright as some competing sets... but it's a good looking set with quality sound and a picture that won't disappoint.

My old LG 1080p TV was finally nearing the end, so I finally made the jump to 4k. The TV has been awesome. I'm sure you can find plenty of models that would be even better but certainly not at its price point. Absolutely been satisfied.

Wow! Already a year has gone by and still loving my U6G. This is far from outdated by my standards. On my budget, I get 50" of 4K LED, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Hybrid Log-Gamma for tv. I'm pairing it with both the shield tv pro and bose soundbar 700 w/ bassmodule (all of which I have purchased from BestBuy and will have reviews on those in the near future. I have 1 regret. I knew this before I bought it but it does not have eARC support. My current setup doesn't necessarily require this at this point in time but if ever there a reason to upgrade from this model I will definitely be looking for this and atsc 3.0 antenna nextgen. I feel I need to fulfill those wants right away so the U6G will be just a fine for the time being.

Very good so far. Great for the price. Doesn't get as bright as some tvs but the bright and cheap tvs blow out colors. I think this is a good balance of great colors, bright whites and deep blacks. HDR in gaming Doesn't get too bright but it looks great for movies. Nice and light weight as well, easy to move around. The os is fast and using the built in apps work great and looks great.

This tv checks all of the boxes for a no frills, high quality set. Super happy using this between the built-in AndroidTV, a PS4, and an external monitor for a MacBook Pro. Build quality, contrast, color saturation, responsiveness are all great. Where the set lacks in extra features, it more than makes up for in a rich viewing experience. There are plenty of other reviews that hit on the (well deserved) pluses, so I will just mention a few minor points:
- The remote is rather old fashioned when compared to something like an AppleTV or Roku remote. Hard to use in the dark. It is Bluetooth capable however, which is great.
- The built in speakers are okay, it boxy sounding, which is common for most TVs I think.
- If using the headphone output as a kind of analog connection to external speakers, beware that the headphone jack appears to filter out most/all of the sub bass frequencies. Could not find this documented anywhere. I ended up getting an external HDMI-ARC audio converter/extractor for this purpose, and the analog sound is much, much better.
Even after the minuses, this TV is amazing for the price… I still can’t get over the crispness, black depth, and color saturation… The picture quality is awesome. It does this one thing really, really well!!

I purchased the Hisense U6G to replace my bedroom TV which finally died after 15 years. To be honest, Hisense was not even on my radar when I was looking for a new TV. I heard of the brand but always associated it with a low quality brand. Boy was I wrong. I purchased 4 other TV’s (Samsung & Visio) prior to settling on the Hisense U6G. I wound up returning all 4 TV’s due to I was not happy with the overall picture quality. The Hisense has a beautiful crisp/clear/bright picture. The colors and deep blacks look fantastic! This is because it has a Full Array display panel and Local Dimming which are not typically found on lower priced TV’s. The sound is also very good. Setup was easy as well. The picture was beautiful right out of the box. I didn’t need to make any adjustments at all. Whereas I spent hours trying to get a decent picture on the TV’s I returned but to no avail. No matter what settings I used the picture was not good. Hisense will definitely be my choice when buying another TV in the future. I’ve only had the Hisense for a little over 3 weeks so durability still remains to be seen. But so far I’m loving it!
