Great TV with "premium" features at a good price

I've owned this TV for a month to this day (delivery was June 13th) and I instantly fell in love with this TV. I'm coming from a Sony Bravia TV that I've owned since 2010 and decided to upgrade mainly for the future consoles later this year.
The settings out of the box are garbage and you'll want to tweak it a bit. Putting the TV in either theater day or vivid calibrates the TV to 80-85% so just doing that and adjusting the contrast and sharpness should do most of the trick to a good picture.
The TV looks amazing watching Netflix, I recommend putting it in Dolby Vision Custom cause it's a perfect combination of bright and accurate color.
Gaming on this TV is pretty good even though it doesn't HDMI 2.1. Remember to change the HDMI ports to "enhanced format" to get the 4k features in gaming. In gaming mode the response time is about 11.5 ms so that's pretty impressive. The only catch is that the picture will be washed. You have the option of putting it in HDR standard messing with the picture and settings. Just basically turn everything off that has to do with motion in the advanced settings and adjust the colors and the response time will be just as good if not better.
This is my first 4k TV and I'm beyond impressed. I originally wanted the H9G but due to the Pandemic situation it wasn't released at the time they were supposed to. I'm actually glad I decided to get this instead :-)

Impressive budget 4k upgrade

Finally made the upgrade to 4k. Was wanting to start with a budget model and couldn’t go bigger than 55 inch, so after doing some research this fit my needs perfectly. Some minor cons - a bit of “dirty screen effect”, 1 small “dead pixel” but in a more inconspicuous place, and some issues with the ARC function. However, not a huge deal considering the cost (bought on sale). Don’t use the smart tv functions (stream through Xbox and a Roku) and use a AV receiver so can’t comment on the streaming or sound performance. I am pleased with the impressive brightness, colors/HDR, and overall picture quality for my budget.

The only way to get OLED under $1000

OLEDs get your deep blacks and more vibrant colors due to each light diode being able to turn off and Quantum Dot technology for color. It can only be achieved due to the diodes being able to turn off which LEDs can’t do! Hisense however created ULED which is 2 LED panels layered with the back being monochrome B&W and front being full color allowing the back panel to turn off giving the deep black you can only achieve with OLED but since it’s not super expensive like OLED this becomes the only option to get deep blacks without spending over $1000. This also has quantum dot technology the same as OLED for millions of colors that get deep and vibrant along with a 120ghz refresh rate to accompany that. You’re not missing anything the OLEDs can do in this TV but it doesn’t have the high price tag. This is also the only TV to have Dolby Atmos & HDR10+ at the same time so you’re getting so much and so much only Hisense has all in one making it a seriously good buy!! It also is full smart TV with Chromecast built in and the TV Remote will also control things like your PS4 so it makes it even better. I’m an artist and gamer and I bought this TV for the best quality and features and it has massively delivered and I highly suggest this to all. I just suggest to adjust picture settings to your liking for the best results.

Good TV for the money

The TV is sleek, thin, and minimalistic which is what we wanted for our bedroom. The picture is ok out of the box but needed some tweaking to really dial in. Once we made some adjustments it looks great. The viewing angle on it is not good at all. If you are laying in bed watching TV this is perfect (which we are) but if you go 10 feet to the left or the right the picture quality really degrades. This TV would not work well in a large room. However, for a bedroom where you watch from you bed directly in front you are good to go and for the money its a good deal.

Probably 3rd Best 4k TV I've had

The Hisense H8G is probably the 3rd Best TV I've had. In the past, I've had the Vizio P series and the older Samsung Mu8000 series. The Vizio P TV was probably the best. It probably had higher nits and better color, but I returned that one. The Mu8000 series, or it might've been the costco number mu810d or something was decent, but I sold that one.
Within the past few months, I purchased the TCLS535, Vizio M50q7 and then the Hisense. The Hisense is better than the first two and here's why: The Tcl s535 had noticeable vignetting and I also noticed that even on the Roku home page, if I looked closer, I saw what looked like discolored dots. At one point, the OS bugged out on me. I ended up returning that. The black uniformity and contrast of the TCL waa actually decent and so was their upscaling. The upscaling was probably better than the Vizio and Hisense. This TV was returned to Bestbuy.
Now, the Vizio H50q7 wasn't really a bad TV. It didn't have the vignetting the TCL had, but man, was the bloomimg noticeable! Out of all my TV purchases, this one probably had the worst DSE (dirty screen effect). The blacks didn't seem as inky as the TCL and even my wife said the TCL had better picture. I ended up returning this TV after I bought the H8G.
Now for the H8G.
The colors punched much better than the Vizio, this TV has a higher nit count in HDR compared to the previous two TVS, and I have not had a probably with the System Interface so far, no vignetting, no discolored dots or dead pixels, and the DSE on this panel is hardly noticeable, but maybe slightly present.
On Rtings, either this or the TCL S535 were rated the best budget TV. If you don't need a 120hz 4k TV with 1000 nits and the best Wide Color Gamut, this is your TV. One thing that I'll nitpick is that, when watching a movie with widescreen bars, the black bars aren't black enough for me, that's probably about it, as far as I can think of while typing this review on my Samsung phone.

The Best Budget 4K TV on the market!

I was simply blown away with the quality of this TV. I am a audio visual installer and see plenty of high end TVs. This one is up there with some TVs for twice the price! I love Hisense's choice to use Android TV for the smart features! It's a well running and easy to use OS for streaming content! The HDR functionality is really where this TV shines for the price. Lots of 4K HDR TVs for this price have very underwhelming HDR capability. This TV has plenty of brightness to produce excellent HDR content. This is also thanks to the local dimming LEDs! I was not particularly surprised or impressed by the TVs audio quality. If you don't have access to a sound bar or surround sound system this TV will do the job, but I recommend an external sound solution. I ended up mounting this TV to my wall and it looks great! I did appreciate that they included metal table legs for anyone who doesn't mount it. Hisense really put the features where it counts and offered it at a price that's hard to ignore! I recommend this to anyone with a limited budget that wants to experience 4K HDR content!

Overall Great product. Great picture quality.
Dolby Vision is great. You can see many titles in netflix supports Dolby Vision. Sound quality is also better than many other TVs I owned so far.
Android TV interface is also something I like. Wish it will be upgraded to the new Google Tv interface.
I did see few instances TV disconnects from Wifi for no reason. and I had to restart the TV from the settings to be able to reconnect. Annoying bug.

Stuck in reboot loop

We’ve only had this TV for 3 years. It started acting up a couple of months ago and last week it got stuck on a reboot loop. The only way to turn the TV on and off is to unplug it. Using the remote or manually powering off the TV with the bottom on the bottom or the screen does nothing. Once the TV is plugged in it automatically displays the Hisense logo screensaver then resets itself and does it again. It won’t stop doing this until it’s unplugged. (We left the TV on overnight to test and it did it for 7 hours straight.) Hisense won’t help us because it’s past the year warranty. We will NEVER buy another Hisense product again.

We really enjoy this Tv. The price drew me in most obviously. I was skeptical at first, but the picture is great. I didn't have it calibrated, but to me it's fine out the box and just minimal tinkering to get it like you want it. Plus this is a much more reasonable price for the amount of Tv we watch. Besides, w the limited 4k content, it's like why even have 4k?
2 negatives; 1) Glare during the day or viewing angle is not as good as other tv's. But at this price, who cares it's fine. 2) the remote can't be programed to work Directv and has no backlights for night use. Again, no big deal. It's fine.
The android software works great too. We're apple people, but the remote control and shortcuts were fine navigating the apps.

PROS: Great picture quality. Very happy with what you get for this price point. Build in speakers rock (especially Theater Mode). I've been able to pair this TV to my Sony headphones no problem for excellent sound. Android TV is overall excellent, but see my con below on that.
CONS: The latest update to Android TV has made the YouTube app sluggish. The fact that this TV gets regular updates from Google is a blessing and a curse. Some things get better, while other things get worse. I'll also mention that hooking the TV up to Google Speakers did not work reliably. Google claims you can pair these to their Home Mini Speakers, but there was a significant lag in the sound between what you see on screen and what you hear. This may be more Hisense's problem than Google though.
TIPS: I recommend the Theater mode for sound. Also, remember to put the TV into GAME MODE if you start playing video games on this thing. If you don't, there is significant latency to the point where the game is just unplayable - especially shooters. Put GAME MODE on and it's fine.

With a little adjustments to the pictures settings this tv absolutely rocks. Switch picture to “theater day” and local dimming to high. Turn sharpness to 0 and put contrast to 50.
Upgrading to a 55” from a 49” 2019 TCL 5-series and this blows it out of the water. The edges are as bright as the center (something the 5 series struggled with) and HDR is way better.
I think android tv is a step up from the simplicity of roku. You can connect it to Alexa but she can’t do much besides turning it off and on (that I’ve noticed)
Game mode allows for super smooth gaming with absolutely no noticeable input lag.

Love this TV already! We decided to upgrade our family TV from a "smart" TV that still needed a fire stick for viewing anything other than Netflix to this Hisense TV. This upgrade does not disappoint! We had the TV up and running within minutes of unboxing. A simple "hey Google" was all it took to get the TV ready to use, hands free and SO convenient. The TV comes preloaded with multiple applications and gives you the option to download more apps through the app store. When switching inputs for gaming the TV shows you what device you're switching to instead of just choosing HDMI1 or HDMI2. If you're like me and cant function before coffee than this TV is for you. With the push of your Google button you can give your TV a command and get your favorite show turned before your cup of coffee is done being poured. Simply say what show youd like to watch and on what app; Netflix, Disney+ or Hulu! You can even change the volume in this same manner. The sleek and simple design will fit any home ordecor. From your kids play room to your Husbands man cave this tv is a must have!

Is this the best tv ever? Not going to claim it is.Is it a very good tv and amazing value? Absolutely 5 star value. If you're not going to go really high end and get the HDMI 2.1, this is a very good alternative. The lowest price tv to get Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision really.
Picture quality is outstanding, especially in 4k. but not right out of the box. have to make some subtle adjustments to get it where it should be. Input lag is low for gamers, especially when put into game mode (HDMI 4). This means when you hit the button on your controller there is no delay in response on the tv
The one thing I didn't like was the speakers. The speakers on my older 42" hisense were way better. Granted, the speakers in this tv can get very loud. For example on volume 8 it gets way louder than you think that level should be..like almost ridiculously loud. is nice at times in order to hear dialogue easily.. But as it gets louder the clarity got worse. A bit of a buzzing here and there along with some dialogue or sound effects in certain videos or shows..Could have been my individual unit but it is worth mentioning. Fixed this problem by getting a soundbar that is Dolby Atmos (or Dolby TruSurround (DTS)) compatible with this tv. Now the sound is outstanding.
One other thing I'd mention is sometimes youtube videos would freeze up a bit. One reviewer had this problem pretty bad with his streaming apps. It only happens with my unit every once in awhile. but never for very long. Like you could hear the audio but the video was behind. There was a recent firmware update and it really improved this problem, along with better picture and video.
Highly recommend the h8g or h9g series from hisense if you're looking for the best value for your money

Very underestimated tv, bought for 399 instead 499, was thinking about a samsung Qled and i decided to give Hisense a shot, im very happy about it, the only one mode i really didnt like is the HDready Game Mode, look too dark, but switching to HD Ready Sports is fantastic, the resolution and the color are stunning. Always used samsungs but i have to say have an android tv is a big improvement, easy to set up all the apps and i can switch all the video im watching on the phone to the tv with one click, very easy to use.

This has been my main tv for 7 months now, and overall, I've been satisfied. It has great features and functionality for the price. When I bought it, rtings hadn't yet evaluated it, but I wasn't surprised to see that it scored very well for the price. Video content and Xbox Series X games all look great. HDR range is supposedly a limit compared to higher end tvs but has been plenty impressive in all uses I've tried.
The only issue is that occasionally, nothing happens when I try to turn on the tv whether through the remote or physical power button, I have to unplug it so it reboots, then everything is fine. Several owners on reddit report the same issue. I had to do this once or twice a week for a while, but this actually has been occurring less often in recent months, maybe a firmware update has improved it.

The picture is quality is most scenes is great. The only downside I've seen so far is drastic fluctuation of the blackness of letterboxing in Dolby Vision content, but to be fair, this might be the content provider's fault and not the TV. I have only observed the issue while watching a new superhero show on a relatively new streaming service that has been known to fudge it's HDR content.
The built-in sound is probably as good as you could get from a TV this thin, but any TV this slim really needs a sound bar.
Android TV is really great. The only downside is that Android TV doesn't support multiple user profiles so unless you live alone, you will want to set up a separate Google account for your TV instead of signing in with your own.

I purchased this tv knowing full well it does not have a native 120hz panel nor a HDMI 2.1 compatible port. But that's alright, because 1) you won't find that at this price point, not for a other 7 years, and 2) For what it 'lacks', what it does have it does exceedingly well. Contrast is at baby oled levels, shows splendid colors, audio that beats most TVs out there, Dolby vision, hdr10, BRIGHT in both sdr and hdr, and the price is extremely competitive.
I have yet to experience any inconsistencies such as banding or DSE, it did not come with any severe backlight bleed either. Am I simply lucky or has Hisense improved upon their quality?
Don't neg it for what it doesn't have because that isn't fair. You can't compare a Civic si to a 911 turbo. Either compare it to TVs at similar prices or same features.

I use this tv on my covered patio and the screen is BRIGHT (glare is minimal), FANTASTIC picture quality. There is no real need to spend over $1,000 for Samsung when this is EXTREMELY comparable.
