Mixed Feelings
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have mixed feelings about this new Hisense. I wavered between 3 or 4 stars, but opted for the higher because this TV does deliver on picture quality and price. I have last year's model in a large size of this TV and absolutely love it. It's a 4K Smart TV at an affordable price. The same can absolutely be said for the Hisense H9 Plus. However, while last year's model came with your typical remote control with application buttons (like Netflix and YouTube). The Android features on this new TV are a huge step up...or they should be. If they worked flawlessly, this would be a 5 star rating. But there is definite improvement needed on this side of things. I get wanting to change and have cool new technology, but in my opinion, remotes still need a number pad. I found it took extra steps to do some of the most basic functions. There are some cool features such as the built in Google Assistant which has worked well for me. But let's get the basics down right before moving onto the fancier stuff! Despite some frustrations, this is still a pretty amazing TV, especially when you factor in the price. I think you'd be hard pressed to find another TV that matches this one in picture quality and tech at this price point. One last thing to keep in mind...this TV is HEAVY. The backing is metal (not plastic), which looks nice and gives it a quality finish. But don't go trying to set this up by yourself.

Really nice TV - quite pleased
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great design, thin borders and fantastic picture. Perfect size and quality for my bedroom. The HDR on it is very nice and supports both HDR10 and Dolbyvision. Colors are spectacular and this definitely rivals much higher end name brand TVs. Football looks great. Excellent color and motion It’s an Android TV and I’m an Android guy so my apps make it even more awesome on this. Access to the Play Store right through the TV makes this future proof for quite a while Built in Netflix, Youtube, Pandora I’ve only watched a few 4K movies so far but they look fantastic on this. I didn’t notice any artifacts whatsoever in the few movies I have watched. Sound quality is very clear but I’d recommend adding a soundbar if you want this anywhere but a bedroom. For me, it’s perfect because I do have it in my bedroom. For the price, this is an amazing TV as it rivals the high end Samsung in my living room as far as picture quality and audio clearness. Definitely can recommend this TV and if it’s your first 4K TV, you will absolutely love it

Needed to be replaced
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Hisense Smart TV would not pick up my WiFi signal via router OR use of an Ethernet cable. This lasted about a week or so while I spoke with Best Buy and Hisense Customer Service about the problem. On about the 9th day, the TV would no longer turn on. No resets, re-plugging, etc. would help solve the issue. It appears the product was defective and I had it replaced. That being said, Best Buy was extremely helpful in regards to getting my TV replaced, and they successfully replaced (and wall mounted) a brand new Samsung TV in place of the faulty Hisense. I would not recommend purchasing this Hisense - but I do recommend the other services and products through Best Buy (wall mount works great, mounting service was professional, etc)

Loads of features at a great price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Now I'm usually one to write off brands like Hisense as inferior. Usually it seems the construction of their TVs and the features included are well below those of some of the higher profile brands, but I have to say that I am more than a little impressed with this TV. To start, the screen itself is one of the thinnest screens I've ever seen. Sure the lower part of the TV is a bit thicker, but you have to expect that so it has room for the connectivity, power, speakers, etc. The thin profile and ultrathin bezels make for an excellent and unobtrusive looking TV. It's really a look you'd expect of one of the 'higher end' brands. When you go to set up the TV, it goes through most of the basics you'd expect, time zone, location, etc, but then you are greeted with an Android setup menu. Now strangely, mine came with a Hisense username on it, though that may be intentional by the manufacturer so users can set up their TVs quickly, so when setup was finished, I just went into settings, removed the Hisense username and put in my own Google account. Speaking of Google, and more specifically, AndroidTV. It literally has everything. Of course it has your standard youtube, netflix, etc, but it even has A SlingTV app, so if you're a cord cutter, you have an option right out of the box without having to use a separate unit such as a Roku in order to start streaming Live TV. The google assistant function is pretty cool as well, though be careful with the volume. On the note of network connectivity for that streaming, it natively supports both 2.4 and 5GHz networks, so you wont find yourself seeing pixelated images because the WiFi is too slow. It does have a wired network connection in the back too, but you probably wont need it. The picture itself is excellent, though it could use a bit of callibrating (as all new TVs do). I have no gripes about it. It supports true 4K x 60Hz HDMI 2.0 on 2 of the 4 HDMI input jacks and audio return on one of them. In addition to all of that, and shockingly for a thin TV, it actually has a very decent set of Harmon Kardon speakers. THey get loud without distortion or sounding tinny. Really the only thing I'm not thrilled about with the TV is the remote it came with, but I have a Harmony remote so I dont care. Honestly at this price it's hard to find anything to complain about. Pros: Great looking TV 4K LED Lots of apps and features with Android TV Premium Harmon Kardon speakers Cons: The remote kinda sucks?

This is a great television set.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Once I got the TV home, unpacking was a breeze. It was at this time that I really noticed how thin it was. Since we are putting this tv on a dressee in our bedroom, I attached the feet with no trouble at all. This tv has plenty of HDMI ports, for both 60Hz and 30Hz. There is one USB port which is convenient for my Firestick. Once I got everything plugged in and turned it on, set-up was as easy as could be. I connected to Wifi and got myself set up with all my apps (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc). The set comes preloaded with so much including Google Home which is completely new for us. We are excited to see just what it can do. The real surprise came when I logged into Netflix for the first time and upgraded to 4k content. HOLY COW! I swear I could put my hand into the screen like reaching through a window. How HD can keep getting clearer and clearer is beyond me. It seems like they will reach their limit soon, lol. After the death the CRT television, I have only ever had plasma tv’s. I prefered plasma because I have always felt that the picture was much better and brighter, not to mention the blacks are much blacker. This is something that LCD/LED has not been able to match until now. I am amazed at the picture and clarity of this TV set and black is much more black than I have ever seen in a non-plasma TV. I am very impressed. I must also make a comment about the sound. The sound is designed by Harmon Kardon and is very crisp and clear. I can say that this tv has the best factory sound I have ever seen. I only have two little negatives that really aren’t a big deal at all and are not serious enough to remove a full star; maybe half a star. First, the remote control is weird and not very user friendly in the sense of the markings. There are no words that say what the buttons are, only symbols. Trying to change from one HDMI input to another took some getting used to and usually took pushing all the buttons until I got to the screen that allowed me to change inputs. Once you get it down though, it is not an issue. The second problem is extremely minor. When I first then on the set, the sound and the picture are a second or so off. This is immediately remedied by changing the channel and then changing back. It only takes a second and is very minor. All in all, this is a superb tv that really delivers in picture quality and sound. I would absolutely buy this set when I need another one.

Very good bang-for-your-buck!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 55" HiSense H9 Plus uLED UHD television represents an intriguing entry into the new category of value-based, ultra high definition displays. The unit integrates a very good display panel into an ultra-slim form factor at a price point that is amazing! This could be your main screen or, more likely, an excellent choice for your bedroom or den as a second set. The television arrives in sturdy, well protected packaging and is easy to assemble and stand up. As with any unit of this size it is HIGHLY recommended that you have two people to pick up and install the unit. It is imperative that you exercise care not to directly contact the screen as it's thin design cannot tolerate any pressure. Once installed, the unit powers up quickly and launches into a quick setup that has you mate the remote to the set, connects to your in-house WiFi or ethernet cable for Internet access and then walks you through a rudimentary tutorial for features. In-box documentation is very limited so I advise doing some on-line research ahead of time. Once that completes you are ready for viewing. Be advised that the HiSense uses the Google TV OS as it's home screen and main interface. If you are familiar with that you will immediately feel at home. Navigation and layout are relatively responsive and are the same as my other Google TV devices. You will have access to the Google app store so you can add to the common apps already installed. One of the first things you will want to do is make certain that the OS and firmware are updated as there have been a number of initial problems that are addressed with these updates. Also you will want to cycle through the picture modes to select the one that most pleases your eye. In most cases if you fancy yourself a videophile you are going to want to select the custom preset and dial in the picture for yourself. I personally found the black levels to be elevated and the dynamic range to be lacking. After some time I was able to dial in a better overall picture. Overall I found the viewing to be quite good. Color accuracy was very good and dynamic range was very watchable. The unit also offers rear mounted speaker elements that allow plenty of volume although I would prefer more bass. Ultimately I will be running through an outboard AV receiver with surround sound so this is not a show stopper. YouTube viewing via the built in app is enjoyable. Also Chromecasting was a snap from both my laptop and our phones. On the downside - the remote control is unlike anything I have encountered before. It is a very minimalist design without a number pad! There are several dedicated buttons for Netflix, YouTube and some more obscure options that all appear to work fine but the space would have been better utilized to provide more rudimentary functions. Also, the unit randomly disconnects from my in-house WiFi even though other devices in the same room are rock solid. Finally I have struggled trying to install some apps from the store that I have not had problems with on other hardware (e.g. KODI). For my intended use I think the HiSense represents a really good value. I use outboard devices for streaming and use my external UHD Blu Ray player for maximum impact. The panel will connect directly to the HDMI output from my AV receiver so the only function it really needs to excel at will be acting as a UHD display. In that configuration I can highly recommend the display. Put this one on your short list if you are looking to maximize the bang for your buck!

Beautiful picture, but not so smart
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like this TV as a 4K UHD television, but it certainly has some issues on the "smart" software side. If you have something like a Roku or plan to get one to use with this TV, I think you'll be perfectly satisfied with the fine picture and the no-bezel screen. But if you hope to use the Android smart TV side of things you might be disappointed or frustrated. First, the good things: As I said, the picture is great. As a TV, it's fantastic. The speakers are really some of the better ones I've heard built in to the TV. For the money, I think these features alone make it a solid choice for a 55" TV. I plan to continue using my Roku with it, so I won't be bothered by the software issues described below. If you really want a full-featured smart TV without having to pay for and attach an external streaming device, then this might not be the model for you. I'm a long-time Android user so I had high hopes for the smart functions. The first big problem is not being able to stream Amazon video. On my phone, I can go to the Amazon store and load the Prime Video app, but I didn't see a way to do that on the TV. And since Google and Amazon seem to be at war, the app may never be available through Google Play. Another somewhat weird feature is the TV creates a new Google account for you during the setup. I didn't see a way to specify and login immediately with an existing account. You can go in later and add another Google account to use it, but it seemed odd it didn't ask by default if you already had an account. Once you add your account, then YouTube will have all your subscriptions, etc. The next problem I ran into was getting the Playstation Vue app to work. I was able to download, install, and login to it with my PSN account just fine. I can go into the guide and see all the channels, but I can't actually get it to stream the TV image. It looks like it should be doing it, but the screen is black and there's no sound. I've installed the Vue app on multiple phones and tablets and never had this issue. I also had to go into settings and disable the wake-on-cast setting after a couple of days because something was causing the TV to come on during the middle of the night. I assume there is some app on one of our phones or other Google devices in the house that was causing it, but it was still a little spooky to wake up in the early morning hours from the mysteriously glowing TV screen. Anyway, disabling that setting seems to have fixed that particular issue. A few other minor nuisances I noticed were the on-screen help mentions pressing the "green key" to add a favorite channel. That's for a different remote (like the 65") rather than the one that comes with this TV. The other nuisance is occasionally having to reset the WiFi connection as it shows "connected" but not having Internet access. If I toggle the WiFi off/on then it immediately syncs back up. The TV also has Alexa integration, but that was a disappointment. I seem to only be able to consistently have Alexa turn the TV off (but not back on..."TV not responding") and sometimes adjust the volume. I haven't been able to get it to change channels, either. Those functions would be very handy, but it just doesn't quite make the grade. In summary, if you plan to use the Android TV functions you might think twice on this. But if you're only looking for a very nice 55" 4K UHD TV with HDR and good built-in speakers, then I think you'll be happy with this model. So I'd still recommend this, but with that caveat.

Great TV for the price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hisense H9 Plus is great 4K TV if you're on a budget. It doesn't come with all the bells and whistles, but it has enough to watch TV...and that's what a TV is suppose to do. Easy to install the base legs and easy to get the TV up and running. The first test was streaming YouTube on the WiFi. No issues. Just as clear of a picture as on my other 4K TV. Next test was watching TV on my Fire Stick. I did have some connection issues on the Fire Stick, but I wasn't able to confirm if the issue was my WiFi or the actual TV. Next test was using the built-in Chromecast to play videos and music from my IPhone. No connection issues. I did notice maybe a 1/2 second delay from my phone to the TV, but that's not a dealbreaker. Last test was the PS4. No issues with picture or sound. Played Madden and a racing game and looked just as good on my other 4K TV. Pros: Love the built in Chromecast – easy to connect 4 HDMI inputs No issues with PS4 Cons: Remote feels cheap and flimsy TV loses Wifi connection on numerous occasions with the Fire Stick Lip sync issues while streaming Slight delay using Chromecast with IPhone Overall: Without comparing to another TV, it is great for the price and you couldn't really compare unless the two TVs are side by side. You won't be disappointed with this purchase.
