Difficult setup, but a great TV overall

I would give this TV 3.5 stars if I could, but will round it to 4 stars. Overall, it's a great TV - with great picture and fantastic sound (it sounds like it has a soundbar built in). I don't know how well it will work with wall mounting (as the subwoofers appear to be on the back), but there is a wall mount sound mode - however it looks like it will still require a fair amount of space off the wall. Regardless, this TV is great - it worked with Dolby Vision on my Apple TV 4K, and I could even control my Apple TV with the TV's remote (with no extra setup required). The reason for the star drop on the review was the setup. The setup is clunky - now I don't know if this is Android (I'm an Apple person), or Hisense themselves, but it was a process that took a while - even for an advanced user like myself. Following all that, someone's Gmail at Hisense was already signed into the TV. It didn't give me an option to remove them during setup. There were even movies and TV shows in this person's Google Play account. I was eventually able to add my own and remove theirs, but it wasn't easy to find in the menu (there are two sections for Google accounts), and it was just strange to find a TV setup like this, making me wonder if this TV was used before. Regardless, once you get pas the setup hurdles, it's definitely a cut above the rest.

    Beautiful display, frustrating interface

I'm a "computer attached to the tv" kind of guy, so I've never gotten the appeal of smart tv's. Why bother with a lower quality version of an app for something that my computer that's connected to the tv can already do? The only benefit I saw was whenever I have company over, like my technophobe mother-in-law that still can't figure out browser tabs, having something with a built in interface on a remote would be much easier than using the wireless mouse and keyboard to control the program. So when I got the new TV, I was ready to have my mind changed about this whole smart tv thing, especially since this was going up in a location where connecting a computer would be too much of a hassle. Unpacking and setting up the tv was a breeze, since i planned on only using streaming services like Netflix, Youtube, and Plex, and connecting to the soundbar via bluetooth. For some reason, the set came with someone at HiSense already logged into their gmail account, so I nixed that real quick. Once everything was set up, the screen was a mess of trial apps that I would never use. Since this runs Android TV instead of some proprietary system like a lot of other tv's, it was simple to find apps in the Google Play store that I already was familiar with (and paid for, for some). Digging through the menu system however was much more complicated. The remote, oh god, the awful remote. Whoever decided to put dedicated buttons to apps that are already on the home screen in multiple places shouldn't be allowed to design anything ever again. What a waste of real estate. You'd thing that maybe by removing those horrible buttons you could put in an actual number pad, or even a keypad since there's so many places to type in user ID's or search box fields that fiddling with the directional pad that also functions as the enter button is a nightmare. Then there's the home menu button, that anyone with an android device should be familiar with (which is similar to the only button on an iphone). By putting it directly under the directional pad, I ended up hitting that button way more times than I wanted to. Not only does this kick you back to the home screen menu from wherever you were (like trying to search netflix for the next episode of You, Me, Her), but since you left the app, you have to navigate back to the app where it opens as if you were never in there, so now you have to navigate back to where you were and do the data entry all over again (and if you hit the home button again during that, well, you may just be frustrated enough to give up entirely and throw the remote through the screen). I'm not sure if it's a failing of Android TV or the HiSense UI design team, but trying to use this television is one of the most infuriating experiences in UX design I've ever had. There's a Play/Pause button, that, on Netflix brings up a menu box that has rewind, fast forward, play/pause, and stop, only the cursor defaults to rewind, so to actually pause a show you hit the play/pause button on the remote, then press right twice, then enter. That's four keypresses when it should have taken one. For a dedicated button!!! So awful. By the way, hitting the middle of the directional button actually does pause with one button press. SO WHY HAVE THE DEDICATED BUTTON THAT DOESN'T EVEN DO WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO DO????!!! I thought a smart tv would make it easier for my MIL so she would stop deleting icons off my home theater pc, but this, this is much much worse. The picture is really pretty though. NIce bright screen, and the 4k content looks amazing. That is, it looks good once you turn off all the image smoothing and optimization crap that all tv's these days come with (which is an industry-wide practice that will never go away, dooming us all to cheap looking garbage until someone like me gets frustrated enough to turn that junk off whenever I get access to a tv that's set up wrong).

Got this to replace a 9-year old 46" Samsung HDTV in the basement. Primarily used for gaming on the PS4. Excellent color and frame rate for games! And seems HUGE with a very thin bezel as well! For watching cable TV through the TiVo, it's very good. I'd say better than my 55" TCL. LED light bleed isn't a problem on my unit at all. Just needed to tweak some of the display settings to my liking (as expected...like any other new TV). Not a real fan of the Android interface though. The remote kinda sucks as well. But since I have Apple TV and PS4 and TiVo hooked up, I don't really need to use the embedded Android anyway. I would still recommend though. Solid TV with real nice display!

So, My husband and I are TV enthusiasts so we opted for this television. He watches more than I do but we watch together every moment we got. When Tech Insider gave us the opportunity to review this in exchange for our review, we were excited! We made the arrangements to get a stand which we got assembled today. Okay! And then the TV assembly part. Ok for taking it out of the box. Screwing on the feet, check! easy peasy, except for getting cramps in my hand. Well I lived through it. My husband and I transport the TV onto the stand. Check! Get everything hooked up... Check... Turned on the TV. Setup is what we thought was good. Except one thing... Who is Scott Hisense at Gmail? It seems our unit was already signed into by a HiSense Employee! Super Weird! We already have our smart devices for HDMI so we're set... So we ignored it and went to the TV setup portion. We don't have an Antenna but had the HDMI setup. So that went OK. Guess what happens when you have a Blu Ray Player or something you can power on? The TV can turn it on and off for you! Ugh! I wanted to watch TV again not watch a Blu Ray which leads me to our next frustration! There is no real way on the remote to switch to HDMI 1, HDMI 2 , HDMI 3 and so forth. You have to tell Google to switch to it! And.... You have to have an active internet connection to do so. Also to prevent nonsense electronic turn ons, you have to go into the settings and turn of CEC. Otherwise you will be banging your had on the wall. We tried to hook it up via Ethernet, it was fine at first and then we started getting messages our Ethernet was not connected. Does my TV have a defect too? Checking the negative reviews here it seems we had some kind of experience here. Not sure what to think. But our audio is OK. No lipsync issues. Picture and sound are all beautiful. Remember... Google Voice is your control to go to HDMI 1 , 2 and so forth. Read the manuals to see if there was a way around it and there was no hope for us. It's functioning fine on WIFI, and despite the weird sign in issue and so forth... It is an OK TV. It may aggravate others though and it almost drove us to the point where we did not want to use it anymore. Sorry HiSense but you need to improve on this one.

So, I like to get good quality and not pay much for it. I guess that means I'm cheap, but I'm OK with it. I like to think of it as being smart. With that in mind, if you are at all like me and you need a new TV, I can highly recommend this one. The picture quality is fantastic, with bright, accurate colors, and the sound is excellent--probably the best I've heard from a TV. Some have complained about the remote missing numbers, and I'll admit it makes changing channels slightly more time consuming, but the on-screen number system works pretty good. On the positive side, no numbers means the remote is considerably smaller. I would, however, like to see a source, or input button on the remote, but the TV handles input switching fairly well automatically. I'm sure there's a good reason for it, but when you set up the TV it creates a random Google account. In the settings you'll find a Google option where you can set up your own account and remove the random one that it created. Bottom line: This is a great TV with quality much higher than its price tag would indicate. It's a perfect TV for those of us that are...smart.

I received this TV in exchange for a review and used it to replace our Samsung plasma. The picture is superb 4k with many settings to custom the motion. My wife can't stand the 4k soap opera effect so we were able to customize the settings to her liking which won her over. The sound is just so so from the speakers which was not a deal breaker for us as we connected it to our soundbar with HDMI. The sound matches the picture so again another win. The remote is pretty basic but gets the job done. It's an android TV but we experimented with hooking it up to an Apple TV and everything works great including the Apple TV remote being able to turn the TV on and off. I would recommend this TV to anyone looking to upgrade to a 4k TV. You cant't beat the price for this stylish TV with an excellent picture and ample features.

Comparing among samsung and LG models, TCL R and Vizio M in store. BBY guys suggest me Hisense model and show me the picture on display. Brighter, more Color, Android, higher contrast, Alex and Google Voice control, HDR, Dolby Vision, all advantage features are there plus 120Hz native other TV doesn't have, Saving $100. take home and family love it. Great deal! Thanks BBY for recommendation.

A lot of reviews on here that are bashing the interface and smart features. Those are 100% true. Android tv is not great. Buy a $30 roku and that will solve most of your problems. The picture for the money is amazing. Last year I bought a 55 inch samsung mu8500 for $900 (on sale). This tv’s picture is just as good, maybe better. It’s the only true 120hz tv 55 inch you will find under $700. Sports look great on here, and so does everything else. Forget tcl, toshiba, insignia, lg, vizio, and sharp. This is one beats all of those in this price range. FYI, the depth with the stand is perfect for a mantle.

Before i bought this TV i did some research online and found this TV got very decent consumer report review score, even better than Vizio's P and TCL's R615, i trust consumer report's review, so i tried to go with Hisense H9E Plus, to be honest, this TV is worthy my trust, the PQ is really great, i especially love the motion, really enjoy watching sports with it, and the HDR visual effect is great, when i play games on it, the experience is smooth and awesome, i really love this TV and it worthy every penny i spent!!!!!!! Highly recommend!

I actually picked this set on sale for $550 and by far is the best bang for the buck. Its running android 8.0 which i couldnt believe. The speakers are amazing and the picture quality at this price range is close to excellent. Built in chromecast and works with alexa. Google assistant is on point. Ignore the negative reviews as they all have solutions.

After spending countless months reviewing TVs and watching YouTube videos. I bought this this 9 Series Hisense mainly because the TV I truly wanted was $450 more. My wife convinced me with logic to get this one and go fancy later, and once again she was right. This TV makes my games run a near constant 60fps, movies have never looked better and sports are ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL. If you are brand loyal, then stick to what you know. However, if you wanna get just as good of a picture and save some money at the same time. Check this TV while its still available

I was on a tight budget but needed a good performing tv. my research took me to this piece of gadget. The price was reasonable and I am happy I bought it. The picture quality is great and has been performing great. The foxsports app is installed, contrally to complaints from other buyers. The remote has a dedicated button for playstore so just go there and if it is not installed, go ahead and install it. My only issue with the set is setting up my wireless connection. I still have problems connecting to wireless internet. i dont know if it is coming from my tv or router. The other issue is playing movie from windows 10 unto the tv. Still working on it and hope i will find solution.

I had read numerous reviews regarding this TV as well as comparable LG's, Samsung's and Sony's, but decided I would give this set a try as the specs made it seem like a hidden jewel. And you know what --- it is exactly that -- a hidden jewel. The picture is amazing, the set-up and interfaces were extremely easy to use. I would recommend this TV to anyone considering a 4K. Saw this on an online review (think it was cnet?) and as I went to best buy to see a competing Sony product in person, I found this Hisense on display at the end of an isle. It was super thin, looked great and Android is pretty great too. It was way cheaper than any product with similar features so I pulled the trigger and after getting home I'll say this: HDR great, thin, audio is surprisingly good, interface is solid but takes a minute to adjust to. I feel like I made a great choice. Love my new TV.

    FRUSTRATING

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I thought I had found a winner when I bought this TV 6 months ago, but I was wrong. Picture and sound quality are good but not something I couldn't get out of a $200 cheaper TCL. Part of my issue is I run 2 TVs side by side and the frequency is the same on both TVs so remote use is an issue. Admittedly not Hisenses fault. Here's where it is tho 1. TV likes to cycle its self on like it is possessed. I'll turn the TV off by either remote or power button. This was only increased by doing a reset and update the firmware. 2. Wifi is very intermittent. TV sitting next to it never loses signal, but this one will go out half way through most streaming sessions and I have to restart. 3. Very slow booting and clunky changing of sources 4. Alexa feature is completely useless. Only does like 2 things... volume control and turn off the TV and the turn off the TV feature locks up the TV to the point that you have to unplug and replug it in to be able to turn it back on.
