I was excited to get this TV and test it out. I currently have a Sony Bravia OLED that I absolutely love, but in bright light it can sometimes be hard to see. This ULED is a game changer in bright light and still provides vibrant colors. My TV arrived on a pallet, but the box was very bet up and the bottom was open. This caused the included batteries to fall out and I was worried other items would be missing. Thankfully nothing was missing and I was able to setup the TV. I would recommend having at least one or two other people to assist. We did not wall mount the TV and instead used the included TV stand. The stand itself is pretty heavy but very sturdy. We had trouble getting the screws through the stand to the back of the TV. The guide bolts they provided did not line up and we had to somewhat lift the tv to get the holes correct. it would have been helpful if two people could lift the TV and one screw it all together. This was a little frustrating but otherwise it was easy to get it on the stand and plugged in. Once plugged in it will run you through a setup and then an update. Once the update was completed the TV was ready to go with Google. The other TV we have has google as well and they both operate the same exact way which was great. I will say that navigating menus, google apps, etc, this TV is very quick with little to no lag. My other TV is a little slower and the Hisense just felt super-fast. The screen is very nice, I did notice a little blooming here and there, but it was still respectable and didn't really take away from how clear and vibrant everything looked. There are a few quick settings for the display, such as Vivid, Standard, Theater, Theater Dark, and Movie Maker. I mostly used Standard as it provided a good mix for the shows we watch. You can also turn on AI screen adjustments, HDR, etc. There so many different options to help you find what works best for your situation. The built-in light sensor does work very well and when the sun was shining into the living room the screen did get brighter, and in the evening the screen dimmed. This screen can get super bright, at one point I had the brightness on high, and a white image came up on the screen and the whole living room light up like we had all the lights on. This super bright screen is not ideal for night viewing but daytime it makes a huge difference. With the OLED TV the screen can sometimes be hard to see when its sunny out, but this one we had no problem with that issue at all. I was very surprised by the built in speakers. They actually work very well and provide good clear sound. The built-in subs provided good bass and really added to the richness of other speakers. This would be good if you do not plan to use an external audio system. I still choose to use my soundbar as the sound is better and the sub is much larger. This is the same soundbar I use on my OLED TV and for some reason it sounded way better connected to this Hisense. I think this TV has different audio output options or a better output processer. The remote is also nice as it automatically illuminates in low light conditions. Not all the buttons light up, but most of them do and it can be helpful. I also like that this remote is longer and wider than most TV remotes as it makes it easier to hold and use. I also really like that the preprogrammed buttons are at the top and even offers a blank button for you to program your own favorite. Overall, this is a very nice TV that might turn into our everyday TV since it works better in bright conditions. I'm new to this brand so I'm not sure about longevity, but it overall it seems well built and will hopefully last a long time. I like it so much that I will consider getting the 85" for my basement TV if we decide to upgrade that one.

This review is for the Hisense – 55” Class U8 Series MiniLED QLED UHD 4k HDR Smart Google TV. I was able to unbox and hang this Tv by myself. The Tv without the stand only weighs 40 lb. I’ve never been too thrilled with previous “smart” TV’s. Most of the time the built in apps just are not as quick with responding to commands vs just adding your own apple tv or google tv unit. But with this Hisense TV with google built in I have been very happy and don’t feel the need to need a separate unit. It operates very smoothly and responds fast. So with the smart portion of the TV I am very happy. On to the picture, I was blown away by how realistic and vivid the quality of the picture was. It’s very bright and full of life. It has a very thin frame on the two sides and top, with the bottom being only half an inch. And the built-in speakers fill this bedroom with great sound. No need to add a sound bar here. Now if this was in my living room I would for sure still use my surround sound system. There is just no comparison there. But for a bedroom or den I think you will find it has more than enough sound. The remote is thin and long, with back lit buttons, and a built-in microphone. Very simple and easy to use. And comes with the batteries needed for it. As for the connectivity you will find three HDMI 4k@165Hz ports, Two USB-A ports, AV input, 3.5mm Headphone jack, antenna connection, digital audio out for soundbars and an ethernet port in back. And on the left side you will find a USB-C port that you can use to connect and charge different devices.

Nice upgrade from my old TV

I selected the 55 inch version, since that was the biggest one that would fit in the location I wanted to use. The TV comes packed well. Mine was delivered on a wooden pallet. Installation is fairly straightforward. I opted to use the included stand which needs to be assembled and attached to the TV. Even the 55 inch version of the TV really requires two people to attach the stand. One to hold the TV upright, carefully following the instructions as to where to grasp the TV, and one to attach the stand. The TV is also ready for mounting on a standard wall mount. Once you attach your wired inputs and power up the TV for the first time, it goes into setup. Just follow the prompts for basic setup. You will need a Google account to use some of the features. At the end of the initial set up, the Google TV operating system insisted on an upgrade. At first the upgrade failed to download. I tried again with the same error. After considerable troubleshooting, I found that the Ethernet port on the TV wasn’t working. The same cable and port on my router worked on other devices. So, I tried the WiFi connection on the TV. Even though my old TV could never get a decent WiFi signal, the new Hisense did. It saw not only my network SSIDs, but several of my neighbors’! I added the Hisense to my guest network, and it was soon happily streaming in beautiful 4K. I’m fairly sure when I want to cast from a device to the TV I will need to be on the same network. The Google TV interface offers a lot of options for configuration. I went through the privacy settings and turned a lot of things off. You can set up multiple accounts to allow customized settings for different members of your household. I downloaded my streaming apps easily and even hooked up the over the air antenna. The TV found several local stations. To access the different inputs just use the button on the top at the right on the remote. One surprise was the number of free streaming channels available on the Google live TV app. My old TV was plain 1080p HD. This new 4K TV really shines in comparison. Details stand out and the picture can be adjusted and calibrated to truly suit your preference. There are also decent speakers built in. However, I attached mine to my sound bar with subwoofer. All in all, this is a really nice upgrade from my old TV. The picture is amazing. Plus, I can watch my favorite streaming services without an external streaming device. This TV is definitely worth a look.

Excellent TV for gaming, one major caveat***

Excellent TV. There a lot of options for gaming. The best one in my opinion was the AI super resolution option. It made games looks quite a bit sharper without adding any input lag or any negative effects in regards to gaming (response times, etc). It reminds me of Nvidia's DLSS or Intel's XeSS, except it was built into the TV, so every game benefited from this option. I feel like these options are usually gimmicks on TVs, but this one was actually pretty cool! Also, this TV supports 4K 165hz, which is pretty much overkill, but hey, why not right? ***The major caveat to be aware of with this TV is that the 55" version has an ADS Panel instead of a VA. This means it will be more responsive for gaming and have better viewing angles. However, the contrast ratio (mainly how black the screen looks, especially in a dark room) won't be as good as a VA panel. So, just keep that in mind when purchasing this TV. In my opinion, the contrast on this 55" was actually very good for a non-VA panel. This is because there are a ton of dimming zones on this TV, which greatly reduced blooming/clouding and greatly increased the contrast ratio to almost as good as a VA panel. So in my opinion, if you mainly game, I'd go for the 55" U8JG. If you mainly consume media & movies, you'll probably want the 65" or larger for the better contrast. That's just my opinion though! I think either way, you can't go wrong. It's a great TV regardless!

    Fantastically Bright and Snappy UI

I had been eyeing the Hisense U8 series TVs for awhile due to their apparent value when it comes to picture quality and brightness. Having owned TVs from just about every manufacturer under the sun, I am happy to report that the U8 series does not disappoint. In fact, I'm actually rather impressed how well it compares to my Q80 and Q90 series TVs, and even out performs them is some regards. I currently have this TV installed outside, under a patio in my backyard. This is why I was intrigued by the listed brightness. I wanted something that would combat glare and reflections in a very bright environment, and I can happily report that this TV performs beautifully for my intended usage. I know this is not built as an outdoor TV, and as such, I have purchased a weather-proof cover for when it is not in use and it is also fully covered from rain and direct sun by my patio covering. It has stood up great to the couple of blowing dust storms we've have the last few weeks. The picture quality is fantastic and I really have no complaints. If you're really looking for things like blooming, you can see them while watching torture tests in controlled lighting environments, but in brightly lit areas, such as my living room or outdoors, you'll never notice them. Colors are very nice a vivid and there is a very nice 'punch' to the image. It does a great job of keeping up with the picture quality of my more expensive TVs. Sound and UI are where it really surprised me. This TV has two back firing drivers that are meant to bounce sound off the wall behind it. I first setup the TV in an open area with no backing for initial testing and the sound was pretty much just like every other flat panel TV I have heard. It was serviceable, but you'd most likely want to connect a soundbar or stereo system at some point. After I noticed the back firing drivers, I placed it close to a wall, and WOW, everything filled out nicely and there is even some decent left/right separation and mock surround. The wall mount I used actually covers the area with the drivers so I was worried that would hinder the sound performance, but luckily it still bounces the sound as intended and sounds great. I most likely will not be adding a soundbar as I am happy with its performance where I have it mounted. As for the UI, it is definitely one of the easiest TVs I have setup, thanks to being able use my phone for the entire setup process. The Google Home integration is fantastic as well and I can even control my non-Hisense TVs through the sidebar on the U8. All in I am very pleased with the Hisense U8 and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends. TL/DR; Very bright, even works great outside under my patio. Beautiful picture with great colors and motion. Amazing sound for a flat panel TV, likely no need for a soundbar. UI is nice an responsive, very easy to setup.

I couldn't be happier with my Hisense 8u model tv. From the moment I turned it on, I was blown away by the picture quality- vibrant colors, blacks, and incredibly sharp detail. Whether I'm watching movies, sports, or gaming, everything looks stunning. The 120hz refresh rate makes motion buttery smooth, and the HDR performance brings scenes to life in a way that rivals more expensive brands. Plus its great for my video wall setup.

When deciding to purchase a new TV, Hisense was not a brand on the list - LG and Samsung were the brands I was considering. After arriving at Best Buy, I met a Hisense rep who showed me the LG and Samsung options and then showed me the Hisense U8. I was surprised at the quality of the picture and the overall look of the TV and what really sold me was the warranty - 2 years. This is twice as long as the other brands we were looking at and tells me that Hisense believes in their product. Now a week later, we are still very happy with the quality of the picture, the build of the TV, and its overall operation. We will have Hisense on our purchase research list for other products in the future.

For the price point, this is an amazing TV. I purchased a Samsung 2 years ago for slightly less that gets absolutley destroyed in every way by this TV. This is the best sounding TV I think I have ever owned, let alone heard. Sure, it is thick compared to most modern TVs but the sound quality makes it totally acceptable to me. Gaming with my PS5 looks fantastic! Even over-the-air stations look impressive. I do not regret purchasing this TV one bit.

This tv is simply awesome. Beautiful picture that I’ll say is nearly identical to watching something on a oled screen. Sound is awesome too cause of the built in subwoofer on the back of tv. It is also the fastest google tv I have experienced. Very responsive. Highly recommend this tv.

I purchased this TV because my townhouse has a south view with a lot of windows and high ceilings. My formal TV and other 55 inch was not set up to handle bright lights is good. I no longer to watch a sporting event during the day have to draw the blinds or anything else. The pictures is outstanding. I've had it a little over a month as far as it goes now I would recommend anybody to buy one.

The U8 is one impressive tv! Had it for a few weeks now. Colors are deep and vibrant. Off axis viewing is virtually the same as straight on viewing. The Google interface is easy to navigate, and the remote is laid out well, and is also back lit. A great feature for a dark room viewing experience. Built in multi speakers, w sub sounds very good, although we use the tv in a home theater setup, so don’t have the built in speakers activated. We have an LG Oled in another family room and honestly the U8 compares very closely. The U8 is one the brightest TVs w nits close to 5000! Great for rooms with a lot of light. Not to mention the huge difference in $ compared to what a Oled costs. The U8 also comes with a 2 year warranty which is pretty rare with most other brands. If you search best TVs for 2025, the U8 is listed on most quality testers lists Highly recommended!

So far so good. The sales guy in store told me I would need a sound bar for decent sound quality. That is definitely NOT the case. The sound is perfect for a small room for someone who wants good clear soundbar quality sound. The built in subwoofers even rumble our couch. Very impressed! Picture quality is comparable to a $2K TV. It is very bright though to where we needed to turn down the brightness at night cause it was hurting our eyes. I'm still tinkering with the settings (there are SO many for sound and picture). For those with kids Disney movies are AMAZING. We watched Moana and I swear it looked 3D. Overall great buy. This was our first Hisense and I think we are lifelong customers. Goodbye Samsung (sorry).

Finally stepped into 2025 technology with the Hisense 55" U8 smart Google TV and glad I did! I did not know Hisense before seeing it at Best Buy but after research, decided it was right for me. The picture on the TV is so clear. I also switched from cable to streaming and it's amazing the details which I can see. Another plus is that with my compatible Pixel cell phone, there are additional benefits such as showing my photos from phone onto the big screen with a simple command on phone.
