Exquisite picture. Sound quality was far better than expected. I almost didn’t bother to hook up my stereo system. Firmware updates added some features like Auto Picture Settings. I use this hooked up to my computer but I do switch to the TV’s OS to view HDR content.

In the box is the TV, the power cord, the stand with screws, the remote with batteries included, and quick guide/instructions manual and warranty information. First impression, I am in love with this television. From the cool remote to the awesome google platform, I am definitely watching this tv more than any other tv in the house. My previous Hisense tv was already mounted and the same size, so I moved the mounting to the new tv with no problem and mounted the tv. Please remember to plug in all external wiring before mounting, mainly the optical cord and if you want to use the LAN plug. The power plug is on facing the side but trying to plug in while mounting was a little difficult but I got it in. Powering on, the television took me through a setup and it recognized my mail google email and loaded all of my apps from my previous tv. I did need to add an additional email and it was tough at first but I was able to switch everything to the new email. Also, when you setup, you can use your Google Home and set up and it allows you to pick apps and chose to use your own personal photos for the screensaver on the Google Chromecast screen. The next thing I noticed was the LIVE setting at the top of the screen; I scrolled over and if you have YouTube TV or Sling TV, it automatically pulls in all of the channels. I hope that in future settings that it will take me right to the show instead of logging into YouTube tv and then playing the show. After set up, I wanted to see how the sound was so I went straight to a sci-fi action movie and the sound was a little muffled. I went to setting and there is a mounting setting and I turned it on and things were so much better. The remote is awesome. It stands up on its own and its straight and to the point, so no more long remote with tons of buttons. I like that the play button brings up a set of buttons on the screen and you chose your option. Also, there are hard buttons for most commonly used apps but the Google TV remembers what I watch and has the apps on the Home Screen, so I don’t find myself using them much. Also, I sent my husband a photo of the television once I was done mounting and the first thing he noticed was the clear picture. Truthfully, that was the first thing I noticed as well. Movies, reality tv and football are going to play great on this tv and I haven’t even hooked my surround sound back up yet. Overall, I am enjoying the tv and I can’t wait to upgrade all of the tvs in the house. Would I recommend to friends and family? Absolutely!

So far, so good. The picture quality is incredible! Super bright. I use this TV in a room full of windows and have no problem seeing dark scenes. User Interface is really good. I would deduct half a star for the sound. There is a very noticeable delay if you have a console hooked directly to the HDMI ports. Fortunately, my soundbar has an HDMI input for my console, which clears up this issue.

    Much better than expected

I spent many hours on the internet researching TVs to replace my RCA 36" CRT TV which was about 25 years old when it died. Among my research sources were reviews placed on Youtube. I looked mostly at negative comments by the techno type reviewers. From what I have experienced so far, I could not find any of the faults they pointed out. In fact, this Hisense U8H 55" is much better than I expected. This review is based upon approximately 1 week of usage and the "out of the box" manufacturer settings. Compared to my old RCA 36" CRT TV, this Hisense U8H 55" TV is spectacular in terms of sound and picture quality. The TV reviewers said the sound "at best" was mediocre. Even though we were unable to hear the sound produced by this model in the store, we decided to purchase the TV based upon the visual image quality even at extreme viewing angles. When we first turned the TV on at home, the first thing my wife and I noticed was how much better the sound was compared to the RCA TV which had an audio amplifier and 2 Boston speakers attached to it. I do have a few gripes. Among them deal with what/how things can be hooked up to this TV: DVD/ VHS and an audio amplifier. I realized both are "old technology" which should be replaced. The DVD/ VHS player requires RCA cables. The amplifier also requires cable hookup. I do not think there are inputs for them on the U8H TV. I should add my gripe is based upon the specs and not having yet attempting to connect those peripherals. So you might wish to disregard this gripe. The other main gripe is with the Hisense Remote control. I called Spectrum, my cable service company, to connect the TV to their equipment using their connection codes. I was told the Hisense Remote control cannot work totally with my Spectrum cable box. There is no "number keyboard" on the Hisense remote like there are on my Spectrum remote and my old RCA remote. As such, I have to use my Spectrum remote to complement the Hisense remote. I did not have to use my RCA remote with my Spectrum hookup. Everything could be done via the Spectrum remote. The Spectrum remote can turn on the both the TV and the cable box and also control the sound plus control my DVD/VHS and amplifier units. The Hisense remote cannot turn on the cable box. There are a few other things that cannot be done with the Hisense remote that require the use of the Spectrum remote. At this point I still find the Hisense remote a little confusing compared to the Spectrum and the RCA remotes but this should not be a problem with more experience on my part. All-in-all, I find the Hisense U8H 55" TV to be a Fantastic TV and a real bargain for all you get at the current price point.

I have a Hisense 4k TV from 2017 that I'm comparing this new U8 model to, and need to say that it is superior in basically every way. Picture: The picture is amazingly clearer on the new U8. All colors are crisp and vibrant, with darker blacks. Audio: The audio is also better on the U8. You get more bass and a more resonant sound from the U8. I'm inclined to say that you don't need a sound-bar, but of course that is a matter of personal preference. Software: The Hisense developed software on the prior Smart TVs was always fairly clunky. On the new U8, using Google's software is much smoother. It is very reminiscent of using a Fire Stick, and also allows for voice prompts just like with an Android phone, so if you regularly use such Google services, this makes it even more present. Also, rather than having just random photos showing up as a screen saver, you get quick-search options for different topics like the weather, which is nice. This TV also starts up almost immediately, taking only about 1-2 seconds, while the older TV takes up to 10 seconds or so. The menus and settings are also very easy to navigate, with everything in very intuitive places. Using as a Monitor: This is one way that this TV does not do terribly well. I set this up on my desk to try having a large monitor with a tremendous amount of screen space. Unfortunately, there is distortion in the text when you have it shown at 100% size. It is better at 125%, but really needs to be at 150% for it to show up clearly (I cannot imagine looking at even somewhat-distorted text for 8 hours a day...). From this perspective, you are probably better getting a smaller 4k monitor in order to have the text come through more sharply. I have a 34" 4k monitor which seems to be a very good size for this.

Picture quality is really good, and I get 120Hz on my Xbox/PS5, which is why I bought it. Speaker is actually pretty solid for an onboard. Only issue is, watching dark scenes in a room with a lot of natural light is not great. Have to adjust brightness/backlight for during the day. Will eventually move to darker room to not have to deal with it.

    Great TV

The picture is great. Out of the box, it was way too bright for our downstairs room - the backlight was set to 100% and white areas lacked detail. But once we found the backlight and brightness and room light compensation controls, it's been a great picture. Motion smoothing works really well. We haven't noticed any motion "judder" from old movies on TV, like we saw with our old set. Reflections of lights in the room do occur, but they do seem less than other TVs we've seen. (According to reviews, most TVs today have about 5% reflectance and the U8H has a 2% reflectance.) We do use an antenna for some channels and the ATSC3.0 tuner does seem to be more sensitive than the tuner in our kitchen TV. We get less speckling of the picture with the U8H. Our only complaints: The legs were too far apart to fit on the chest we wanted to use as the stand. Also, the zoom feature works fine for broadcast shows, but we can't zoom old letterboxed videos coming from our DVD player. That's a little annoying, but, even without zooming the picture to full screen, the picture is bigger and clearer than it was on the old, smaller TV.

I actually purchased the 55" U9G for my bedroom, was so impressed, got one for Mother's Living Room. She Loved it. Be Careful. The Settings on this TV are quite A LOT. Brightness is at PEAK. Research how to dumb down some of these Settings so your Picture does not start malfunctioning. Purchased this 65" for Mom Dec 2021. Thought it would last longer than this. Through trouble shooting, I believe the Backlight is about to Die. Hisense only wanted to know if I had extended warranty on it. Nopey. And BTW, My U9G Hisense in Bedroom's Backlight is Out. Purchased in April 2021. So, maybe Stay Away from HISENSE, OR GET WARRANTY.

Excellent 4K value. Brightens and sharpens detail of movies I’ve previously watched on my older Vizio 4K. Great price from Best Buy. Only other 4K in this level is the TCL 6 series, yet not quite as bright

After a lot of research, I bought this to use as a computer monitor, and man, it's spectacular! Super-bright, incredibly crisp, the sound is full (built-in subwoofer was a nice bonus!), etc. It made a Hisense brand believer out of me! It's just fantastic, worth consideration, even against the top brands.
