Right out of the box, I was really impressed with the TV. The color quality is stunning, the Android TV UI felt familiar and intuitive, and setting everything up was super fast. That all went downhill as soon as I tried to play, well, anything. Any movement in frame is met with juddering and tearing that is so noticeable it can't be ignored.

Fine picture and sound but the smart TV is slow and disconnects a lot, and it is the wireless technology the TV has. We checked and all the other TV and streaming devices in our home work great this is the only one we have issues with, so if you get it and do not have great internet (we do) then get another streaming device to use with it.

Hardware - There are a lot of luxe materials involved with this unit. The front bezel and the feet are made of metal. The back panel is made of plastic and in my opinion don’t feel it does not feel high quality, but fortunately, since it’s the back of the TV, you don’t have to look at it. - Remote is full featured, but also in my opinion does not feel luxe. Picture - The picture is crisp. I’ve used it with all types of content (movies, tv, cartoons, video games) and none has disappointed. - Motion is great. It has “motion rate 240” which can handle any motion you can throw at it. I tested this by playing video games and was impressed. Lag input for video games was not disappointing either. - Local dimming works well. Combined with HDR, movies with high contrast scenes look great. My only wish is that the screen got brighter, it maxes out at around 700 nits. Features - Android TV is awesome! Works super well. It’s full featured and there are a lot of apps. And because its Android TV, Chromecast is built in which is a huge plus. - Having google assistant on the TV makes life a lot easier. You can ask it do anything and it will! Other thoughts: - One of my peripherals has not been communicating well with it. It has required me to reset the peripheral on multiple occasions. It could be an issue with the peripheral or the HDMI cable, but I was not having this issue until i started using this TV. - When the screen is on, it emits a high pitched noise that is distracting to me. I have sensitive ears so this may be something that only bugs me, but something to be aware of.

This tv is fantastic. We have been looking for a larger tv for some time. The units that we were looking at had OLED and had great pictures. The Hisense uses quantum dot technology which is referred to as ULED. Quantum dots expand the color range to over a billion different colors and richer, darker blacks. This makes the colors brighter and gives you a more vivid, detailed picture. The picture is every bit as nice as the other units we have looked at. The unit has multiple color settings to allow you to change the theme of the color and adapt it for the type of program you are watching and the brightness of the room. Watching a movie in true 4K was an amazing experience. The sound is deep and clear. There are 4 HDMI inputs so you could add on a sound bar if you wanted to. Getting started was a breeze. We plugged it in and using Google Assistant (not my Google Home device) I had it operating in a few minutes. It uses an android platform which made setup intuitive. The built in Google Assistant enables voice commands. It looks like you can choose to use Alexa as well. All the controls that you need are on one remote. No need for multiple remotes. By connecting your other devices through HDMI Control you are able to control those devices through the tv with easy setup. There are pre-programmed buttons for YouTube, Netflix, Google Play and Vudu. One downside is that the buttons on the remote aren't backlit. The unit is a Google TV, which means that instead of just the canned apps that typically come on smart tv's, you can download your own apps from the internet. This makes streaming super easy. The unit easily identified and set the available broadcast stations from our antenna. I would definitely recommend this tv. It has a lot to offer and it has a lot of bang for your buck.

Best screen I've ever owned - at any price

I've owned a number of big screen TVs in my time and without a doubt the H8G Quantum Series is one of the best. There are a number of features that contribute to this, although there is a small issue that I'll get into later. Setup/Unbox - Even by myself, the Hisense was easy to get out of the packaging and get set up. I really appreciated the fact that they provided two different mounting points for the stand legs, allowing you to put the legs on closer together or farther apart depending on your TV stand. My stand (purchased from BB of course) has a taper to the back and this enabled me to put the legs on in a way that didn't force me to move it closer to the front. And the legs even have cable management brackets on them to keep your wiring neat. This is an example of how much thought went into the details - I don't remember seeing this on any of the other flat screens in its class but it works great. The actual set up of the TV was also well thought out, including set up of the AndroidTV. Smart Features - I did have an initial problem with AndroidTV authentication but it was minor. I later learned that this was fixed in one of the updates so you may not experience the same problem with more current firmware. The fact that this includes AndroidTV instead of some proprietary system opens up a number of options including interaction with home automation systems. I was surprised that Amazon Alexa was also supported so you really have the best of all possible worlds. I have an nVidia Shield so the home screen was instantly familiar to me and an number of programs associated with my profile were automatically installed. It looks great and runs fast and smooth! And the included remote is well laid out - something that other manufacturers could learn from. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that when using the Shield with the Hisense, the remote actually supported most of the commands. I have a Harmony Home Hub set up and the set is so new, there isn't a profile yet but I found that using the profile for the Hisense 65H8F works great. Styling/Display Quality - The unit looks great even when it's off. The sleek styling is superior to many of the more expensive brands with its thin bezel and well designed stand. The build quality shows in every aspect; the stand, the well laid out input/output section. Hisense has always been quick to market with new features; you see them at every trade show with the latest stuff but at seriously reasonable prices and it always made me wonder if it was either rushed to market or of a lower quality but now that I own one I can tell you that neither of these myths are true. I'd favorably compare this set with others costing twice as much. And this display is nothing short of stunning. I thought "quantum dot" thing might be just another market-speak gimmick but this is without a doubt the best picture quality I have seen. The contrast is incredible and the blacks are so.. black. I didn't realize how much of a difference this would make until I saw it. I'd suggest playing with the settings a bit and also making it a little dimmer than you normally would so you can appreciate the difference. I've watched standard TV, 4k movie content and UHD content on it and while HDR content looks absolutely incredible on it - like looking out a window rather than a screen - even standard content looks better than any other set I have owned. I watch a lot of YouTube content and it just looks fabulous. The clarity and contrast makes watching everything that much better and the screen refresh rates mean that things like action movies or sports events suffer no motion artifacting. I'd include pictures but they don't do it proper justice; you need to see this set in person at your local Best Buy. Once you do, you'll be hooked! So with all of these great features and the incredible display, it's really hard for me to find any negatives in making a purchase decision for the Hisense but I did come up against one relatively small issue. I don't know if this was just my unit, but the smell once I turned it on was overpowering. I mean, I am used to the smell of new electronics being a TIN member after all, but this was really bad - enough that I had to open windows and run a fan for the first two days. Now, after about a week it's become much less noticeable although when I get close to the set I can still kind of smell it. This may well have been this particular set and chances are you won't have the same issue. But it was bad enough that I thought I should mention it so that if you do experience it, you won't think that something is wrong with the set. Would I recommend it? Absolutely and without hesitation. (I've even brought a neighbor in to look at it who is in the market for a new set and he's planning to buy one after seeing it!) In fact, I can confidently say that my next set will almost certainly be a Hisense as well. I can't imagine a better pairing of price and high build quality.
