Outstanding Picture with Upgraded Audio
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Design The first thing I noticed when unboxing was that this years U8 is very boxy compared to previous years. Seems like Hisense is moving away from trying to make a slim looking TV and instead making a brick to accommodate better audio. The 65" is on a pedestal stand which overall is pretty solid. It has two height adjustments and includes a cover that allows hiding your cables if you want to run them down the back of the stand. I noticed once on the stand, the TV has a slight lean back which is a bit odd. It has speakers all the way down the side with nice looking subwoofer in the back. I love the new remote! Its the same as last years. Feels really good in hand with nice button layout. It looks metallic but don't let that fool you, its all plastic. The remote also has motion backlighting which is a nice touch. Display The panel on this 65" is a 4K QLED VA panel using mini LED with full array local dimming. They also bumped the native refresh rate to 165Hz. I ran some screen tests. I looked hard for any type of imperfection but I couldn't find any. No defects, bad pixels, cloudiness, banding, etc. Even with local dimming disabled the panel on this thing looks flawless. Very impressive! Picture Right out of the box the picture required minimal tweaking. While it offers several picture profiles, I found the standard mode to be a solid starting point. I did, however, adjust the color temperature to Warm 2. To my eyes, this struck the perfect balance, avoiding both overly warm and cool whites. As you would expect this thing is really bright. The backlight is set to 100%, which is fantastic for well-lit rooms, though you might consider dialing it down for darker environments. After these minor adjustments, the colors are wonderfully vibrant and accurate. And the black levels? Simply outstanding – it gets remarkably close to OLED territory. There is some AI picture and sound settings built in which is new. Its all disabled out of the box but if you turn it on its able to automatically adjust your picture and sound based on what you are watching. Sound This years U8 clearly prioritizes audio, a fact immediately apparent in its design. Hisense says it has 4.1.2 Multi-Channel Surround which means it has a few separate speakers built in and in the end will sound richer. I will say that the sound quality that comes from these speakers is the best I've heard for built in TV speakers but still not as good as a dedicated sound system. I would say its comparable to a mid tier soundbar. Personally, I found the sound to have a somewhat hollow quality across various profiles, though it did deliver a satisfying level of bass. This would work fine for a smaller room but its not going to fill a larger room. I did some blind audio comparisons and my soundbar still won every time. Software This set comes with Google TV which is my personal favorite smart TV platform. Its running Android version 14. With that you get a very large variety of supported apps and Google Assistant built in. This TV is extremely snappy! I've own a few Google TVs and this is the most responsive UI I've used to date. As you would expect its not completely stock though. Hisense has added some apps that you cant remove. All my favorite apps were available and installed quickly. Most of my viewing is online streaming and all apps worked flawlessly over wifi. Speaking of wifi, it has wifi 4, 5, 6, 6e but no 7 support this year. My one complaint here is if you use a external audio system via the earc hdmi port and enable passthrough on the TV, you no longer get the volume numbers when you adjust volume. Seems to be a software thing where they gave up trying to calculate what the volume level is at with external audio systems. Even if its not accurate it still would be nice to have some sort of indicator as to where you are. Would like to see this added back in future software update. Summary The Hisense U8QG is truly remarkable when stacked against pricier competitors. It really shines in several key areas. The picture quality is amazing, delivering a viewing experience you'd typically expect from a much more expensive set. Then you have the significantly upgraded audio this year. The motion backlight remote. And let's not forget a super smooth Google TV experience. For anyone seeking a superb LED TV without breaking the bank, the U8QG feels like an absolute steal. A high end TV in disguise.

Punching Above Your Weight
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been using the new Hisense U8 for a little over a week now and I have some thoughts on it. First, what is Mini-LED? Well, without getting into the weeds, you can think of Mini-LED as something super similar to OLED. There are some differences, however. OLED is famous for its inky black levels but is usually plagued by not being able to get as bright as some other technologies. Mini-LED on the other hand gets extremely bright and gets pretty close to OLED black levels. That makes Mini-LED a really great choice for TVs, especially ones that are in bright spaces. The Display: The Display on this TV is 4K, Mini-LED, and it looks about as good as it gets. I have a 77inch OLED from a different brand, and this Hisense packs similar firepower in its image and display quality. This is especially true if you aren’t a super display nerd (like me). 99% of people will never be able to tell the difference between this and some OLED tv’s. This is extraordinary because of the price point. The image processing is above average, the black levels are dang close to inky black, and this TV features QLED technology which makes those colors explode with vibrancy. This TV also supports a range of HDR technology (and oh boy does this HDR get bright), and Dolby Vision IQ. This means this TV is an excellent choice for those that are looking for a great movie experience. As far as live sports/live tv, this TV is more than good enough. Most live streams will never be able to take advantage of the tech on this tv. Gaming: I currently have a PC, Switch, and XSX connected to this TV where I tested different games. There’s some stuff with this TV that makes it easily one of the best for gaming on the market. The refresh rate goes all the way up to 165hz which is insanely high for a non-dedicated gaming monitor. Most competitors cap out at 120hz and as far as I know, so do gaming consoles. What 165hz is useful is for is PC gaming. I hooked up my PC, played some KCD2, and Expedition 33. The VRR worked well, and the 165hz limit was way higher than you will ever need on a TV, but I love the fact that you can do it. The input lag was super low and I never noticed it. At this price point this TV is a gaming slam dunk by Hisense. Everything else: I didn’t want to do a segment dedicated to sound because I would never recommend anyone to just use the TV speakers. The jump in quality from the TV speakers to even a basic soundbar is huge. However, the speakers on this TV are above average. The last thing I wanted to touch on was the stand and the remote. The stand is simple, clean, and sturdy. Nothing fancy, but it looks good enough at this price point. The remote is a bright spot with this TV. I love the brushed metal look and the simple number of buttons. It has some presets and a favorites button which every TV manufacturer should include. In general, the build quality of this TV punches way above its weight. That really is the story with this TV, it punches way above its weight.

Captivated and Speechless
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hisense 65” class U8 series Mini-LED QLED UHD 4K smart TV left me utterly captivated and speechless with its stunning picture quality. If you are considering an upgrade to your home entertainment setup, look no further. The 65U8QG, as advertised, is the MVP of TV and truly takes your viewing experience to a whole new level. As I was researching in anticipation of testing out this television. I wondered what was special about this TV? It dawned on me that I really did not understand the difference between all the model varieties out there. So, I thought I would share what I think is a reasonably fair understanding now. This unit combines the best display technologies in the market today with Mini-LED and QLED, delivering a picture that is as equally stunning as it is efficient. Mini-LED refers to the thousands of ultra-small LEDs that make the image really pop with vibrant colorization, deeper blacks, and even backlighting. Then QLED or quantum dot LED, which sounds very sci-fi, is used to complement the LED by providing an extensive array of over a billion would be pixels dots that again bring out the richness and fullness of an image. Ok, so that said, here is what I cannot articulate well enough… Which is just how amazing this television looks in real life. I get lost sometimes in those 4K channels that just show scenes from around the world as one does. In this case, I was shook because I could see individual grass blades blowing in the wind in the foreground of the scenescape on display. It is just insane. On that comment, I am an avid gamer. I am not good, but I play a lot of games. This television has a native 165Hz panel with FreeSync technology included. I use a high-end monitor that only has 144Hz, I mean. The screen is massive, so the field of view and clarity are captivating and immersive. The internal processing power provides smooth gameplay with even transitions and no noticeable screen tearing or lag. I did not see the millisecond response time as it would compare to a comparable monitor, but I have not noticed any difference between my desktop setup and my 65U8QG. The game bar is a neat touch by Hisense that makes switching needs for varying games quick and easy. IE, I want thriller games that are super dark for the experience, but in first person pew pew games, I like them bright as all get out to be able to see into corners and dark spots better. Or if I want to see the latency and frame rates I am getting. From there, the internal sound is stunning as well, which is a bit unexpected. I would typically say that most TVs I have or have owned are notoriously bad at making sound. Hisense found a sweet spot with the 65U8QG and is able to deliver high performance audio delight with its built in 4.1.2 channel system running on 82W of power. The inclusion of a subwoofer is something that you do not see outside of a sound bar. Our living room is pretty small, so we have the TV on a mount. The power of the Dolby Atmos makes my wall function as an amplifier and can rattle the back sliding glass door. I got so carried away with complimenting the unit, I did forget to mention that out of the box, I must note this is a minimalist style TV, but it is kind of heavy. My wife and I were able to mount it, but I think I want to cut a cord box into the wall for a better cable management system. The unit comes with plenty of ports and has Wi-Fi 6, which improves connectivity and minimizes or mitigates interference. I would have liked to have seen a USB-C port, but so far, the weight and that are my only cons. I am an enthusiastic fan of the Google TV operating system because, in my opinion, it is just more seamless than a clunky manufacturer’s version that we see from time to time. It allows for a memorable and reliable experience. Hisense has also included something called Hi-View AI Engine Pro, which, to be honest, is actually cool and not just something they throw in to look fancy. The AI automatically adjusts your picture and sound based on what you are watching. The efficiency is in the consistency with which the product is able to execute to the user as a deliverable. All in all, it is a beautiful model that achieves a bright and vibrant display with excellent contrast and theater-quality sound. I have had many flat screen televisions since buying my first one in 2006. Even now, including this one, we have six in our house, and by far, as in not even close, this is the best television I have ever seen. Whether you are in it for the movies, the on-air sports, the gamer, or just after a pretty screen to watch your favorite show on, the Hisense 65” class U8 will get you right.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review."Absolutely Stunning – The U8 Series Sets a New Standard!" I’ve been a tech enthusiast for years, and I can confidently say that the 2025 Hisense 65" U8 Series Mini-LED QLED is a total game-changer. Right out of the box, the build quality feels premium and solid, with an ultra-slim bezel design that adds a sleek, modern touch to my living room. What truly blew me away is the picture quality – it’s absolutely stunning. The combination of Mini-LED and QLED technology creates incredibly vivid colors, inky blacks, and dazzling highlights, especially with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support. Watching 4K content feels immersive and cinematic. Whether it’s action-packed movies or nature documentaries, the detail and color accuracy are phenomenal. The brightness levels on this TV are next-level – perfect for both dark and bright rooms. And thanks to the high refresh rate (144Hz), fast-paced sports and gaming are buttery smooth with virtually no motion blur. As for the smart features, the Google TV interface is fast, intuitive, and packed with content. Voice search with Google Assistant is responsive and makes navigating super easy. It seamlessly connects to all my smart home devices as well. The built-in sound system with Dolby Atmos also deserves a shoutout. It’s surprisingly powerful with rich, clear audio – I didn’t even feel the need to hook up my soundbar immediately. Overall, Hisense has outdone themselves with the 2025 U8 Series. It delivers flagship-level performance at a far more accessible price point. If you’re looking for a high-end TV that excels in every department – picture, audio, smart features, and gaming – this is hands down one of the best choices out there. Highly recommended!

Stunning picture & Gaming Monitor Perks
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review."This TV is fantastic." This is the thought that's been running through my head most of this week as I sit down to relax for the evening. I've written reviews for a lot of TVs at this point and, truth be told, most are positive for the simple reason that it's gotten pretty easy to produce an experience that most would consider acceptable. But in the time I've spent with it so far the U8 has genuinely impressed me in so many ways - going above and beyond what I've come to expect from the brand. First, somewhat predictably, is the picture quality. Hisense has been making waves for a while for figuring out clever ways to improve the performance of LCD panels to get them a bit closer to OLED, and they've pulled out all the stops here. Active dimming, quantum dots, and a beautiful glossy finish all come together to produce a vibrant and colorful image that makes HDR content absolutely pop. And they've paired it with a straightforward and easy to use interface letting you fine tune the settings to meet your exact preferences (something that has historically been a bit hit or miss due the brand.) And if that were all the U8 offered, I'd be perfectly fine giving it my recommendation. But what really makes it stand out are all the secondary perks. The U8 comes with a host of secondary features that read like a wish list of things I wish more manufacturers would pay attention to - starting with built in support for variable refresh rate input via a DisplayPort interface handily placed on the side where it's a bit more accessible than the rear mounted HDMI and audio ports. Gaming on this TV with my PC looks and feels better than anything else I've tried by a wide margin. And as if that weren't enough they even gave it a surprisingly decent sound system. The (admittedly somewhat chunky) case has enough room for a surround sound system of sorts complete with a subwoofer. While I can't say it really competes with a dedicated surround setup in terms of quality or immersion, it certainly beats most cheap soundbars and sets it apart as one of few TVs where external sound doesn't feel like a necessity. There are a few downsides that some might find off-putting. To start, it's definitely not a subtle design. Personally I don't mind a larger case if it means getting better performance, but I know a lot of people prefer TVs to be nearly invisible when not in use and this will definitely never be that. It's thick and unashamed about it, with a very on-brand chunky pedestal base to match. Which segues into my next observation: the install process was a bear. This thing is tremendously heavy and getting it set up and into position with just two people resulted in a lot of pinched fingers. What's more it's quite picky. When I first started it up I was using the same HDMI cables I'd used for years with my old TV and the combination of MAT sound and HDR brought them to their knees almost immediately, resulting in frequent audio dropouts and visual glitches until I replaced then with ones that had more bandwidth (pinching my fingers a second time.) So, for many, this may not be a drop in replacement so much as the centerpiece for a whole rebuild of their home theater. Still... This TV is fantastic. It's an easy recommendation to anyone with the space to spare.
