Very good picture. Sharp, Bright, Great contrast and black levels. But.. if you value your privacy, dont expect Highsense to respect your choices. As you can see in my pictures, there's areannoying led's that stay litbif you have the microphone switched to the off position. Customer service was no help and could of cared less. I didnt spend this kind of $$ to put electrical tape over the bottom of my panel.

So far this TV is amazing especially for the price. I will say we had a hiccup in the first couple hours of ownership when changing picture settings the entire picture would start to flash every second. After a hard reset and an hour of eco-mode the TV began to work properly I don’t know if that’s a break-in thing or not but knock on wood it is working just fine now. Cannot wait to see how it does with a new series X that is if I could find one.

I was so excited for this TV after all of the positive reviews but unfortunately my screen had some bad pixels in a couple areas. It was noticable as soon as I turned it on and to confirm I ran a dirty screen test from YouTube and sure enough there was a big spot in the middle and a smaller one on the right. I guess you just have to be lucky which unit you get. It's just so frustrating when you wait for the TV to arrive, carefully unbox and set it up only to turn it on and not have it work properly and then box it all back up. I've always had the high end TV's and thought I could save some money on this on this one based on the reviews but I'm going to keep spending the extra money for the premium models. Best Buy has been good about the return process so far as well.

The U8G is sort of a frustrating TV. On one hand it provides a stunning picture for high quality native 4K content, HDR, HDR10+ and DV. It is super bright and highlights pop. It is actually a little too bright as it crushes whites. If all you want to watch is streaming and UHD Blu Ray it is a good choice. On the other hand it is really mediocre at other things. Upscaling is poor and HD and low resolution SDR sources are blurry and soft. Motion is really bad. I could not dial in settings that got motion good enough for sports or movies. Not a console gamer so no thoughts there, Quality was also hit and miss. I had a really clean panel with great uniformity and no issues with bleed or ghosting But it also had a bad HDMI port and the remote did not actually light up like it should. TV is well positioned, and really the best of the midrange tier. To get better you need to look at Sony A80J, LG C1 and QN()A, maybe at some point X95J and QNED90 all of which are much more expensive. I returned the U8G for A80J and could not be happier. It is significantly better in every way and worth double price. But if this is as far as your budget goes or just watching high quality content it is a great choice. U7G would also be worth a look as much of the additional brightness of the U8G is not used well.

Prior to buying this TV, I owned a Vizio P65-C1 that I bought about 5 years ago. I loved that TV and I was sad it went kaput. I will be comparing the two along with a Sony X900H that I owned for two months prior to buying the Hisense. I knew I wasn't buying a Vizio again because I didn't want to deal with another broken TV in less than five years. On to the comparison. All TV's were set to the most accurate modes they offered. The Sony had strengths but its weaknesses were too severe to overlook. Round 1: The biggest weakness relative to my Vizio and Hisense was blooming. It had severe blooming in dark scenes with a single source of light in the image. The Irregulars from Netflix has an episode where one of the characters is carrying a lamp in a cave and almost the entire TV exhibited blooming in that scene. It was a huge distraction to my eyes. Mind you, neither my daughter or wife noticed. Haha. But I did. Neither the Vizio or Hisense exhibit anywhere near the amount of blooming the Sony did. I can't recall a single scene in the last 5 years in which I noticed obnoxious blooming from my Vizio. I want to say the Vizio and Hisense were similar performers with respect to blooming. Neither of them have much of any, but the Hisense is a little better. Bad blooming is a deal breaker for me so the Sony went back. Round 2: Black levels. The Hisense has some pretty incredible black levels. They are inky black, uniform and have nice shadow detail. Couple that with no blooming and you get a superb contrasty-(<- not a word, I know), image. My Vizio has excellent black levels but are not as inky black as the Hisense. I noticed shadow detail is similar with the edge going to the Hisense. The Sony... nope. Dark scenes were almost too dark to watch. I had to squint just to be able to see detail in the image. I did not enjoy its dark scene performance. Round 3: Brightness. The Hisense is BRIGHT!!! Maybe a little too bright. Lol. My Vizio was pretty bright as well. Not near the Hisense but respectable. I never felt like my Vizio needed more brightness. The Sony was dim. Dim in dark scenes, dim in SDR. Although it was much better in HDR, not all the content I watch is in HDR. Round 4: Colors. This is where I feel the Hisense is a little bit inferior to my Vizio. I feel like the Hisense has overly saturated colors. Maybe I'm wrong and it's not calibrated yet so that may fix it. I notice a slight Red push but not distractingly so. My Vizio had what I felt were saturated but accurate colors. I never felt like the colors were inaccurate. The Sony by contrast (no pun intended), had probably the most accurate colors. However to my eyes they seemed washed out. I thought the Sony's colors were ok, they just didn't have the pop of the Vizio or Hisense. Round 5: Everything else. The Sony had the best processing as far as I can tell, although the Hisense is about 80% there. The Vizio had the worst processing but had the best "Film-like" look to images. I miss this the most from my Vizio. The Hisense looks almost too clean. I miss the grain my Vizio displayed with most content and even though there was "grain", it still looked incredibly sharp in most HDR scenes. The Sony has snappier controls, the Hisense is a close second and the Vizio had a terrible "Smart" user interface. It was slow to load and to scroll through. All in all, the Hisense is a keeper. It has fantastic black level performance and the colors are deeply saturated and appear to be mostly accurate to my eyes. It has snappy performance, good processing and fantastic value. I highly recommend this TV.

An Absolutely Fantastic TV - But Be Wary of Bleed

I had originally planned to pick up the U7G when it was announced, but due to impatience I decided to spring for the U8G because it released sooner. And to be honest, if you have the extra cash for it, I'd definitely recommend the U8G - IF you don't experience the issues I unfortunately did. NEGATIVE: First off, my unit had some significant backlight bleed on the right side of the panel. Two "splotchy" areas that really reared their ugly faces when the screen was black. Basically it looked like someone was standing behind a dark curtain and shining a flashlight through it. This only was really noticeable when the backlight dimming (local dimming) was disabled, however depending on the brightness levels I was also observing it with LD on. Once I turned the brightness down a couple notches, it was but unnoticeable. Unfortunately, simply knowing it was there was enough to bug me, especially when I'm paying $1,300 for a TV - it should not have display issues this severe. I am returning and exchanging my unit for an OLED. This has been a controversial decision for me, because I thought long and hard about simply exchanging for a replacement U8G. However, the worry that I will experience the same or similar issue with another panel was bugging me. It's very likely I wouldn't, but still the risk was enough to deter me. All that being said, now to the positive... the reasons I really wished this TV worked for me. PICTURE QUALITY: Wow, the brightness! This thing will blast your corneas if you're not careful. I tended to turn the backlight down to atleast 70 for SDR content, but left it maxed for HDR (where you want those peak specular highlights). I played Chivalry 2, which at the moment in its beta form is only in SDR, and holy crap was it bright! Even in SDR the game as rendered and displayed absolutely perfectly on the U8G. It could have easily passed as HDR. Same with titles like Destiny 2. I also played plenty of HDR videos on YouTube and was similarly astonished. To top off the picture quality, not only does it get insanely bright for HDR highlights, but the black levels are near OLED level. And let me repeat that... they are near OLED level. No joke. I watch in a dark room at night, and fairly dim during the day (plenty of blinds and shade) and I noticed VERY MINIMAL blooming around bright objects on a black screen. It honestly surprised me how good the dark room performance was. Usually it is advisable to skip LED TVs if you watch a lot of movies and content at night in a dark setting, but the U8G pulls this off surprisingly well with little to no issue. Also, I noticed little off-axis tinting of colors, but you can notice a little backlight bleed when standing off to the side - not bad, but its there. REMOTE: Probably my second favorite thing about the U8G. Hisense has really delivered here, in my opinion. While many might loathe the instant app buttons, I made quite good use of them! And it was pleasant to see that my 5 most used apps were all present and accounted for on the remote, so quickly switching was a piece of cake and so convenient! Literally the only smart remote I've used that had Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, Peacock, and YouTube front and center. Nice. Moving on, the remote itself is smaller than you think and easy to hold with one hand. It can also be stood up vertically on a table - nice touch. Another big thing for me though was the inclusion of a backlight in the remote - huge convenience, especially for that late night movie watching! Way to go, Hisense. SMART FEATURES: The app store is basically the Google store, so anything you can imagine running on a Google platform can (for the most part) be run here with some exceptions. However, you won't find a bigger app platform for a TV. The UI is smooth and responsive and I never once had a stutter or hitch while navigating. Everything you want is here, and while I would prefer an on screen display to quickly switch between inputs and apps (like LG's webOS or Samsung's Tizen), it wasn't slow or inconvenient to simply go back to the homescreen. A minor gripe, but one area where Android/Google TV could improve. GAMING: I tested the U8G on a Xbox Series X, and while I was able to get 120hz and Low Latency mode working WITH local dimming, VRR was sadly not the case. Enabling VRR on the console will automatically switch local dimming to "off" on the U8G. So, if you decide that VRR is more important, you have that option, however if you have any of the panel issues I experienced (backlight bleeding) then you most definitely will want local dimming enabled. My workaround for this was simply leaving VRR disabled, and but still enabled 120hz and ALLM on the Series X. This kept the TV was instantly switching into "Game Mode" which then deactivated Local Dimming. Doing this, I simply played on the HDR Theatre preset. Surprisingly, I had very little input lag if any at all. I played Chivalry 2 and Destiny 2, as I previously mentioned, both competitive titles and felt no disadvantage on my part. Response time felt fast and fluid and I never seemed to be behind or slower than anyone else. I was pleasantly surprised by the response time of this TV outside of game mode. Very good performance here and definitely worth a mention. Other than that, HDR gaming looked fantastic and just as bright as movies or app streaming. Like I said earlier, even SDR games like Chivalry popped and sparkled with color and light like I'd never seen before. Overall, I had no issues while gaming on the U8G, though I do hope Hisense can patch the VRR/LD caveat. I think its safe to say that if they do, watch out - major player here for gamers! OVERALL: I can't say enough about how impressed I was with the value being offered here. The U8G gets bright enough to counter even the sunniest of rooms, while still maintaining peak performance black levels for dark rooms. I noticed minimal blooming on my unit, and the backlight was VERY fast to respond to changes. Again, it felt near OLED quality. The picture quality coupled with the simplicity and usefulness of Android TV, as well as gaming performance... what a deal this TV is. It's well worth the $1299 launch price, and if you decide to wait on a sale, you'll be getting a heck of a steal. Just hope and pray your panel is a clean one unlike mine.

I’ve had the TV for 2 weeks and I have to say it’s a great TV overall. My last TV was a samsung pnf8500 plasma with amazing black levels, I always hated the bleed of LED TVs and was planning to go OLED when prices dropped. I mainly watch TV in dark rooms. When this TV was announced I was excited about the features for the price and it doesn’t disappoint. The full array local dimming looks great, HDR, ATMOS it’s a great TV for the money , it’s bright to where I have to turn in down at night, and the black levels are awesome I couldn’t find any bleeding or banding. My issue is when gaming with my PS5. If you are gaming at 120Hz like Call of Duty for PS5 the TV is great but when playing some PS4 games like Last of Us 2, if the console is on HDMI 2.1 there will be ghosting. A you tuber found a “fix” by plugging in the Console in a hdmi 2.0 port and that stops the ghosting but I lose Free Sync and hdmi 2.1 features. I also wish I didn’t have to switch between ports to play certain games (I know first world problems) you tuber claims it’s software issue but my return date is fast approaching and I don’t know if there will really be a fix. The ghosting is pretty noticeable when playing last of us 2. Might have to go OLED and pay the price. Other than the issue i mentioned TV is solid.

All I can say is wow. I was very surprised by this TV. Of course this is a brand that doesn't get all the limelight like the other top brands but I feel they offer an amazing picture and performance for the price. The brightness and black levels are really good. The blooming on this TV is almost non existent as well. I did change some settings by a YouTuber I follow and it made this TV shine even more. Unless you are going with an LG C1, I highly recommend this TV over its more popular and more expensive rivals. Be careful of who you blindly follow on YouTube because most of the time they give positive reviews to TV because they are getting something in return. There are just a few out there that remain honest but of course they don't get the recognition they deserve. And last, who can argue with the 100 day no questions asked return policy. It's a no brainer.

This TV checks all the boxes for the features I wanted, but with one fatal flaw. Goods: 4 HDMI ports. 2x 4K120hz, 2x 4K60hz 1x AV port which comes with an AV to RCA adapter. I have my PSX hooked up to this without needing to buy another adapter and take up an HDMI port which is incredible for a new TV like this. Also has an Optical audio-out. I actually like enabling motion smoothing for movies and TV shows. It makes everything have a newer look which has made me go back and rewatch almost everything I own. Gaming at 4K 120hz is amazing. This TV works with G-sync so frame rate dips aren't as noticeable. HDR looks great. I game on a beefy PC and I couldn't be more satisfied with how the games look. Latency and ghosting on this TV is not noticeable for me and I come from gaming on 1ms TN panel gaming monitors before this. This screen get really really dark. Watching movies with full-array local dimming makes this TV rival the OLEDs with the brightness contrast. Very impressed. Android TV is easily the best smart TV OS. Having access to the google play store for apps gives you so much variety. File explorers, phone casting, VPNs, even emulators. Not to mention pretty much any media streaming app. The platform has a big advantage for developer preference being so popular and universal. The built-in speakers sound much better than I'd expect from a TV. In fact, I don't even want to bother buying other speakers it sounds so good already. Bad: Running games at 4K 120hz and streaming HDMI audio through the TV's speakers at the same time sounds good at first. But after a few minutes or sometimes an hour, the sound will turn into this crackly, garbled, 8-bit fidelity mess. The issue is corrected by restarting the TV but this is still so annoying. My computer is the only device I have that outputs 4k 120hz content, so I need to pass audio to the tv using a method other than that HDMI. Except, there are no other audio inputs I can use for this TV... I read a forum that showed I'm not alone and other people are seeing this issue. Which leaves me with no choice but to buy a soundbar just so I can have 4k 120hz content with SOUND through the built-in speakers over HDMI 2.1. I'll just have to have an optical audio cable going from the computer to the soundbar directly. Very disappointing. (woe my previous point about not needing to buy other speakers.) Another bad, 4k 120hz with game mode and VRR does not work at the same time as local dimming. I knew this before buying the TV per other reviews and accepted it. Only because other TVs I saw had a similar caveat or worse. Just want to point this out to anyone who doesn't know though. Conclusion: If you plan on buying separate speakers for your TV anyway without HDMI audio pass-through at 4k 120hz, I 100% recommend this TV. Even if you just watch movies it makes them look way way better. Just salty about the audio over HDMI 2.1 flaw because this TV was so close to being perfect. Returning the TV seems like too much hassle for that one issue, especially when I don't think I'll find a better one.
