This fan met my expections. First, it was easy to put together and did not require any tools! IO spent about ten minutes putting the fan together. The instructions were clear and my only difficulty was getting the blade cover centered (I was not paying good attention to the lettering!) the base is really heavy and will prevent tipping or scooting of the fan. Using the fan is quite easy and it does provide a really good flow while remaining fairly quiet. I like the options it provides, The fan height can be adjusted up and down. There are three air speeds, which are conveniently done by a button rather than by a knob. the fan head has some tilt available, so if you want to point the flow towards the ceiling, that is available. Finally, the oscillating feature is easy to start and stop. So, you have complete control over where the air is pointing and whether the fan moves side-to-side. This fan has six fan blades, while most fans of this type have only four. I think that is what makes it quieter! The only downside I see is the black color, which will show dust and dirt! But that is a smaller matter.

With Spring in the air and with rising electric bills in the making buying a fan instead of using the AC is a better choice... Setup was super easy. Took all but a few minutes.... Fan blades and shroud is all plastic ... Blades are a little different from the typical larger blades. These are smaller and more. Operation is super easy. Simple buttons for speed... Button in the back to control oscillation. Manual adjustment for up and down... Super simple. Amount of air that it moves is pretty decent.... It is pretty quiet... Only issue I can see is if you need to clean the blades.. The shroud might be a bit harder to take off. Other fans that I have used have a slide lock mechanism to open the shroud. Those one you have to use a screw driver or something to pry it off. And it is made out of plastic so over time it might be brittle and break on you. Other than that, decent fan. Small foot print and moves air. With rising electric bill this might be a better option to try first before you turn on that AC. I would recommend this product for what it is intended.

good fan-save the a/c on the warm days

Fan was double boxed when received. Box had been handled roughly, but all the fan parts were in good condition. Fan assembly was simple and self explanatory – I didn't need directions. The lower post mounts to the weighted base, the fan motor / switch housing is placed on top of the post, and the blade and blade guard mount to the motor housing. The majority is made of plastic – motor housing, fan blade and guard, and base cover. The actual base is weighted with metal for stability. The fan has three speeds. Unlike some floor fans, this one was extremely quiet. On low, it was very quiet, on high it has a soft “whir”. The fan head oscillates, or can be stationary. Oscillation was very smooth. The motor can be tilted up or down a little. I had to really tighten the tilt pivot screw to get the motor to remain where positioned. The post can be adjusted for height, and locked in position. Overall, would be great for use on a warmer day to be comfortable without having to run the expensive a/c.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly... Here we have a certain measure of all. Let me start with my specific use for this fan. I have a relatively large home. We have 2700 sq ft on the main floor with a 1500 sq ft basement. Those two levels share a large furnace and a large AC unit. Then we have a 1500 sq ft upstairs that has 3 beds, 2 baths, and an office. That floor also has its own separate furnace and AC. The Good: It does what it's designed to do, and it does it well. It moves a lot of air and it does it relatively quietly. I placed this fan upstairs in the room my wife and daughter use as their lady cave. I am sure it will end up saving me money as its 3 speeds and oscillation will provide additional air flow and cooling. The Bad: The metal height adjust rod seemed to be missing. In the manual, it was listed as a stand-alone separate part. After checking the inventory and comparing it to the manual no less than 4 times, that part was indeed missing. As I started to disassemble, I ended up removing the plastic locking nut in the lower support and luckily turning it upside down, the missing piece slid out. Frustrating. Secondly, and with the understanding that this is a decent entry-level fan, it does have a cheap, plastic feel. The Ugly: Let's face it, this is a blade fan. The technology has been around since time immemorial. Does it do what it's supposed to? Absolutely. But are there more elegant options available? Yes. End of the day, would I recommend it to a friend? Maybe. But I would caveat the previously noted items mentioned.

    Plastic Oscillation Fan

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

About The Big Breeze Stand Fan The Big Breeze Stand Fan is a manual 3-speed oscillation fan by Holmes. It has a 16” fan size, adjustable height and adjustable head tilt. Instructions You do have to assemble the fan. The assembly is really not that difficult, but the instructions could be much better. First, it says you need a Phillips head screwdriver. This isn’t true. There wasn’t anything that needed more than a hand tighten. At first, it appeared that there were a few parts missing. After looking at the parts closer I found that some of the pieces had been assembled prior to shipping, but they were not assembled in the order you need, so you had to take them apart and reassemble in a different order per the instructions. Build Quality This fan appears to be of lower build quality. Most everything is plastic. There were hardly any metal components other than the metal pole for height adjustment and what metal is in the motor assembly. The fan is plastic. The cage is plastic. The motor housing is plastic. Most of the pole is plastic. In my box some of the plastic components had chipped off during shipping. It wasn’t anything that affected the use or the aesthetics, so I just kept mine. I am assuming that the limitation of metal components helps to keep the price point where it is. The whole fan weighs roughly 15 pounds including the base. I also noticed a weird smell that smelled like bug spray. It may have been the oil for the fan motor. Using the Fan The fan did a good job of moving air, even on the lowest setting. The noise created by the fan was moderate. There are 3 settings for fan speeds. These can be used with the fan in a static position or oscillating left to right. All of the buttons for fan speeds, the oscillation mechanism, and head tilt are manual so you will need to walk over to change any setting on the fan. There is no app or WiFi connection. The head tilt clicks into place. It’s not a very defined click, and it would be easy to knock out of position. I kind of wonder if this will last well over time. The fan is rated for indoor use only. Conclusion I’m giving the Big Breeze Standing Fan 3.5 stars. Since I can’t show half stars in my rating, I am rounding it down to 3 stars. It does move air well, which is the main purpose. Unfortunately, it feels cheap with all of the plastic and it didn’t make it to my house before the plastic components started breaking off. For the price point it may be fine for most people, but I’d prefer to have something with a higher build quality. Of course I would expect to pay more as well.

Bought this fan for my bedroom and it’s honestly a great buy. It’s quiet on the lowest setting but still moves a good amount of air. The height adjustment is smooth, and assembly took like 10 minutes max. Only downside is the plastic base feels a bit light, but it’s been stable so far. Oscillation works well and covers the whole room. For the price, it cools better than I expected. I have had it for over 2 years now and still works the same. Would recommend!

Very simple to use standing fan. It is very sturdy and has some heft to it (not that heavy, but enough, to notice it). It comes apart on a box. The instructions were clear (just a pamphlet) and it was very easy to put together (not tools needed). The base is very wide (make sure you have room), giving the fan a very sturdy positioning (it's not flimsy and will not wobble or fall). The middle of the metal rod has a plastic knob that allows you to ease the pressure and you can adjust the height of the fan (at its maximum extension, it's not that high, I would say it reaches chest level, and I am not that tall), but it's enough, because the upper part of the fan can tilt up and down (so if you want air shooting up to your ceiling, floor, or just straight up, you can do it). The fan is completely manual, there is no timer or no fancy electronics, it just has 4 buttons, 3 for different speeds (low, medium, high) and one to turn it off. Just by pressing a button on the back of the fan you can make it turn automatically like any other fan out there. If you pull it, it will stay stationary. It blows tons of air, and what I like the most is that its very quiet. Certainly not silent, but the noise is non obtrusive and its of a non annoying pitch. I have it on my room and I can still watch TV without it bothering me. Very well constructed, I highly recommend it!

Holmes Big Breeze Moves Big Air

The Holmes 16" Big Breeze Stand fan has just about all the things you would want in a fan. Instructions included were minimal and easy to follow. Carefully putting it together took less than 15 minutes. Some of the screw in pieces were already attached to the fan column/motor. Once I figured that out, I unscrewed the pieces. Then, reattached them with other parts to complete the assembly. The base is really heavy, sturdy and the fan will not topple over. An advantage to a heavier base is that it can be smaller in size. This allows you to put the fan in tighter places other fans would not fit. The controls are very simple to use with 4 large buttons. Off, 1, 2, 3 are the settings (1 - slowest; 2 - moderate; 2 - fast;) I love the 16-inch width of the sharp blade wheel. Even at setting 1, a comfortable amount of air was moved. The Holmes Fan is also quiet, even on the highest speed (setting 3). Other features I liked was the oscillating and tilting up or down of the fan blades. You can get comfortable in just about any position and still have the fan running. Although the base is heavy and solid, the column, motor and fan blades did not lock into place. I moved the fan in different positions, and it was a bit wobbly (not including the base). The buttons felt kind of "cheap" when pushed as well as the completely assembled. The oscillating and rotating blades of the fan moved the air just fine with some force. I am using the fan to move cooler air around the inside of the house. The current flow of air keeps the rooms and living areas cooler. I am pleased with the results. I have no "real" issues with the Holmes 16-inch Big Breeze Stand Fan. It has all the basic features you would expect, and it performs as a fan should. I would have given this a 5-star rating if not for the wobbling at certain points on the fan: 4 out of 5 stars and you will still enjoy this fan.

    Economical Fan with Powerful Airflow

Holmes 16" Big Breeze Stand Fan is definitely bigger than typical household standing fans. The ones I own and still use have the plate size of about 14 inches. This Holmes fan is bigger by 2 inches and that must contribute to more powerful airflow. As other reviewers noted, I also thought the metal extension pole was missing but quickly realized that it was inserted inside the outer pole. It would have been helpful to mention that in the manual. After turning on the fan, I immediately noticed some clicking noise. It came and went but there was nothing subtle about it. Since other reviewers were mentioning this fan was quiet, I thought some parts may not have been tighten enough. So, I started to disassemble but removing the front grill was not very easy. Since it's made of plastic, the last thing I want to do was break any of the clips, so I was extra careful. I used a flathead to gently loosen and unsnap each clip. I noticed that the blade cap was loose but was not sure if I didn't tighten enough, or it became loose after use. I also noticed that the rear grill mounting nut was not tight enough, so I made sure it was securely tighten this time. After putting the parts back together and turned the fan back on, there were no more noise! Hopefully this review will help others from experiencing the same noise issue. Overall, Holmes 16" Big Breeze Stand Fan is at a good price point and provides strong airflow. I would recommend it.

It's kind of hard to get too excited about a DIY-assembly fan. The pieces in the box fit together quickly and intuitively to produce a fan that generally looks like any of a thousand other pedestal fans you've probably seen, built, used, and tossed in your lifetime. And this one is not particularly fancy--there are no remote controls, LED lights, air purifying ionizers, touch-screen displays, or Victorian-style accents to spruce it up. But for what it is, it works GREAT. The six-blade design actually pushes A LOT of air. We are using ours under our covered deck, and even at medium speed at nearly 12 feet away we can feel the breeze--perfect for scorching hot afternoons even in the shade. Oscillation speed varies with one of the three preset fan speeds; on fast, the oscillation sweep takes about 4 seconds to run from left to right; on slow, it's about 6-7 seconds--this helps ensure that you are never waiting too long for the fan to blow some nice cool air back into your face when you are trying to cover a larger area. The simple twist clamp at the top of the base holds the main motor, fan mount rod, and control assembly quite securely, and offers a good 8 inches of additional height adjustment with the top of the fan reaching nearly 50" from the ground. The fan head itself also tilts upward and down to allow precise aiming. I does stay tilted in place on its own, though I wish there had been a thumbscrew or knob to tighten as I have to wonder if the fan head will slowly start to droop over time--we shall see. The base is heavier than you would expect given its appearance with its plastic top shell, but this helps keep the fan very sturdy while limiting the footprint of the base itself. Yes, the materials are predominantly plastic and the speed control buttons have a decidedly "plasticy" feel to them, but no more so than I would have expected for a fan at this price point. And so long as you are careful during assembly and placement, the fan actually looks decent with its high-gloss piano black finish that is just a tad more upscale than your standard white and grey affair. However, that glossy sheen does come at a cost--the mirror-smooth black plastic finish will scratch and mar easily if you are rough with it or use your shoes to kick it around on the floor or carpet one too many times--best just to set it and forget it if you want to keep it looking its best. In operation, the Holmes Big Breeze fan is surprisingly quiet, even on high, and there was no intrusive oscillation noise or clicking, motor buzz, or any other signs of shoddy workmanship or loose tolerances during assembly--we were surprised and impressed. There are certainly more stylish or nostalgic-looking fans out there, but if you are simply looking for function over form, the Holmes fan is a solid and competitively priced choice that offers GREAT airflow and whisper-quiet operation.

I have central air but I like to have a fan for those spring and fall times when it's not hot enough for the AC but too warm with just the windows open. This fan does a great job of moving the air and cooling down the room. It is a bit noisy at anything above the low setting but it actually acts as "white noise" when I'm sleeping. It can oscillate or stay put. If you need it to cool an area and don't have AC, the oscillation may work to help cool down the area on very hot days. I am able to cool a room about 15x15 very adequately. Some downsides that kept me from giving it five stars- When standing next to the fan, the buttons are hard for me to see. I have to bend down to see them under the fan itself. I mentioned the noise also. If you are trying to watch TV, the noise can be a bit much. The base is fairly wide. While this makes it very stable, it does need space on the floor. It was very easy to put together. I had it assembled in about five to ten minutes. Overall, this is a great fan to cool down a room. Keep in mind the noise at medium and high levels and the size of the base (18" across).

What a great fan! Exceeded my expectations as I read a number of varying consumer reviews on the product. Very quiet, easy to assemble (as long as you can find the extender tube which is buried in the base tube) and pushes a ton of air. Even on setting #1 it is moving the air around really well. Highly recommend for smaller rooms or spaces.

Using this fan in my bedroom, as Im the only one in the house who can’t stand high temperatures. I cant speak for the longevity of the fan, but it seems like a really nice product with plenty of power. Was using a smaller lasko without a pedestal. This one keeps the room plenty cool at the middle setting, and its quiet. Its like being outside on a windy fall day. The base is heavy, feels like 10 lbs and the fan is super simple fo put together, no instructions needed. Which means its also easy to disassemble and clean. My only gripe is that the base is a little too big for my space. Would look nicer in a bigger room. So far i love it, just be careful putting the front cover on, be gentle with the little tabs that snap in.

Well let me think of the positive the Holmes - 16'' Big Breeze Stand Fan has going for it, it has a stable base, that is about the most positive thing I can say about it. The fan comes is six different pieces you have to assemble. The fan blades, two protective covers, a base, a metal telescoping shaft and the base electric motor. I usually sort out all the parts (pictured) before I embark on assembly. For quite a bit of time I was convinced they forgot to package the silver portion of the pole assembly as I could not find it. No where in the instructions does it mention the silver pole is in the black pole assembly and you have to essentially whip the black pole assembly in one direction for the magical silver pole assembly to telescope out. OK, figured that one out, once that was figured out the rest of the assembly process was straightforward with another exception, the clam shell protective pieces are supposed to snap together, in reality they barely fit into each other and the snaps don't press together due to inconsistency in the manufacturing process (neither shell was 100% round, I never did get them together in what I would classify as "assembled", one section was always out of whack. Once together the buttons which control the speed and whether it is on or off are inconveniently placed on the main motor assembly, not the best designed as you almost have to reach behind the protective shell to push the appropriate button. How much air does this move, not as much as you would expect, the fan at its highest setting is leisurely in spinning up and when it does, it was not the quietest and seemed a bit off balance. Two other issues came up during the break in period, the whole plastic assembly had a strong plastic odor. The second issue was whatever lubricate they use in the motor it smelled of oil. Both these smells necessitated than I run the fan in my garage on high speed for two days to get rid of the odor and break in. Do yourself a favor, spend a few extra bucks and get a model which has better motor and in general has a better build quality, this one is frankly the bottom of the line which I would not expect to last more than one or two cooling seasons.
