The max settings on this fan are extremely impressive. Almost too impressive. There are three speed or intensity settings to choose from, but the highest is really, really powerful. This fan has come in extremely handy during this recent April heatwave. The range of motion when the fan rotates is more than adequate and comparable to other devices in its class. It's also extremely easy to adjust fan height once everything is put together; just loosen one component and then tighten again. You can also adjust the vertical orientation of the fan head with a simple push. The fan will lock and place and not lose its position as it rotates. The base is sturdy, too, and is weighted in a way that will keep the fan from tipping. Setup and assembly is also extremely easy. The plastic construction of the parts doesn't inspire confidence right out of the box, but this fan operates really well once everything is put together. I wasn't familiar with this manufacturer before using this unit, but I'm definitely going to give their products a closer look in the future. All in all, I'm pretty impressed with this. I've never had a fan on max settings that was so powerful that it actually caused my wife's door-mounted mirror to start lifting off its hinges before!

So far everything works well. This fan looks good and was easy to assemble. Assembly: The assembley only took a few minutes and once assembled, everything felt pretty solid. The base has a good weight to it th keep the fan steady even at the highest speed and while oscillating. Design: The fan is your pretty typical stand-up fan. The solid base at the bottom, an adjustable height post that goes up to the controls. There are four buttons, three different speeds and an off button. Then the fan and shroud on top which is all plastic. The top has the oscillation option on it and the fan will also tilt up and down, which is a nice feature. The power cord is five feet long, also pretty typical for this type of fan. Good: -The assemply was less than five minutes -The tilt feature is great to have -The fan moves a lot of air! -Sturdy base -Basic design but looks good -Simple operation Concerns: -Lots of plastic (the fan blade and shroud, control buttins, etc.) gives a slight concern for wear in the future. -$49.99 price point is not bad, but a sale price of $39.99 makes it more appropriately priced Overall this fan blows... a lot of air... I'm a big fan... It doesn't suck...

Poor build Quality - Easy to assemble

Fan is a hulking ugly black monster. Base came with a large (8in plus) deep scratch on it, and the overall build quality is chintzy with all plastic parts. The underside of the base had some black material that came off of it kind of like small pieces of dirt - so it left a mess behind where it was sitting. It was easy to assemble and does provide a large breeze, but I do not recommend this fan if you want a quality construction that will be timeless and last many years.

    Big breeze oscillating fan

Holmes stand fan is a pretty good breeze fan that can help save your electric bill in summer months. This is a easy to use and simple fan to setup. There is instructions included in the box and it comes with all the parts you need to put this together. You don't need any additional tool for the setup. All the parts, including the blades, front and back grill, extension pole, are made of heavy duty plastic and feels study. The base stand is large enough and has metal plate to hold the fan steady. Using the fan is as easy as pressing the buttons you see on the extension pole. There are 3 speed buttons and the off button. The fan can oscillate as well. This can be controlled by a knob placed on the motor housing behind the rear grill. The fan can also be adjusted lengthwise for different height setting. I like that this fan doesn't make lot of noise. It's actually pretty quiet in low speed. But it does move a lot of air, even good for a large living room. The only thing I miss on this fan is a remote control. Overall, I'm happy with this fan and will be using it daily to keep the rooms cold without running the air condition all day.

Good fan at a reasonable price. Yes it's mostly plastic but seems sturdy enough and moves a lot of air. The fact that it's mostly plastic makes it lightweight and probably saves some money. I have an older fan that's also 16" but has a lot of metal and it is much heavier and awkward to move around. This one is much lighter and seems far more portable yet still seems to move the same amount of air. Strangely mine was delivered open, both the outer carton and inner carton appeared to have been cut open at the tape. I was immediately concerned that some of the parts would be missing. There was no apparent damage to the box it just looked like someone had opened it. I'm pretty sure fedex wouldn't have accepted it for shipping open like that so I assumed someone had opened it after it was shipped. Luckily all the parts were still there and wrapped in their plastic like no one had removed any of them. Some parts were already installed so look for them in their installed position before assuming they are missing. Fairly easy to assemble and looks good. It's just a basic fan with 3 speeds, no smart functions or remote. Quiet and moves air well with or without oscillate. Big enough for a larger room. The six blade design makes for a smaller profile while still moving the same air as a larger 4 blade fan. Also probably helps keep it quieter. Seems well made and should last a while.

    Powerful and Sturdy Fan

The Holmes Big Freeze fan has been a great addition for my home especially with summer just around the corner, this fan will for sure save me money on my electric bill. The set up was fairly easy taking me less than 10 minutes to put together. The base of the fan is heavy, which keeps it from becoming flimsy or wobbling too much. The 6 blades and the cover are all made of plastic. The electric cable is of good length and can be placed pretty much anywhere. The fan has 3 setting buttons (low, medium, high). All of the settings are perfect and create a great airflow. You can also adjust the height to your liking as well. The Oscillation feature will cover a bigger area of your home making it feel much cooler faster. It has a tilt option as well. The fan is pretty quiet even at its highest speed. The cover gaps are small so tiny fingers won’t fit. That’s a plus for me since I have a toddler at home. The cover is nicely secured and once it's on, it won’t come off. The only downside will be when you would need to clean it. You will definitely need a tool to remove it, other than that is a very sturdy fan, powerful and secured.

I’ve used Holmes stand fans in the past and have really liked the way they work. This particular fan has 3 speeds and 6 blades. It works well with the 6 blades even at the lowest speed so I think it will keep us cool as the weather gets warmer. It has a metal bottom base under the plastic stand cover that makes it very sturdy and also a little heavy if moving it upstairs or downstairs. But it’s worth it for the stability as I’ve had other fans that worked well, but did not have a sturdy stand. My original box was missing a few pieces. I contacted the company and they sent a new fan and shipping labels for me to return the box with the missing pieces. I was surprised that the front and back grills are plastic and so are most of the fan parts, except for the inner pole and base of the fan which were metal. This does make me a bit nervous about the quality and so I hope it lasts and continues working well. For now, the airflow is great at all 3 speeds, the 4-degree tilt of the fan heads works great too, raising and lowering the height works as it should. It was easy to assemble. But the tabs that connect the front and back grills were different from others I’ve had and took a couple extra minutes for me to make sure it was assembled well to secure both sides. I like to remove the grill and blades to clean them at least a couple of times a year. But the way these tabs are made of not great quality plastic, they don’t seem strong and it makes me nervous that these tabs will break off easily when I’m ready to take it apart to clean. Even though it’s working well now, the quality of this one seems a lot less than the other Holmes I’ve had in the past, that's disappointing. But it's still working so time will tell.

Nice fan size and height plus plenty of power if i wanted to summarize it all in a few words. If you need a reliable fan and brand you go with holmes . You won't break the bank because its affordable. Feels like its very durable plastic was used along with the metal base and it has good weight with the base its sturdy. We had those few hot days here last week and definitely had to use the fan it helped so much i didn't like i needed the a/c and raise my electricity bill, because we know you use the a/c and that consumes so much power. Building this fan was very easy took me only 10 minutes to have it up and running. They also have the same 16 inch fan without the base just in case you are looking for one that goes on the table. I love this brand my last holmes fan lasted years they do make quality products. The cable is also a good length in case your outlet is far from where you would like to place the fan . Some other companies give you such a short cable to plug it in. The last thing i can say is if you want to put it away i keep the box and stored it there for me it while in the box itfit in my closet

    I am a fan!

I am a fan of the Holmes 16-inch Big Breeze Stand Fan. One of the things I do is that I always have a fan on in our living room and in our bedroom. We live in Texas, so I will run a fan year round. I have owned several other fans in my life due to the continuous and rigorous use I subject fan motors to. Over time, I learned one lesson that is counterintuitive to the cliché that paying more means you will get a better product. I have had fans that cost several hundred dollars that could not blow out a candle. Then I have also had cheap fans that would make the big bad wolf envious. The Holmes 16-inch big breeze, in my opinion, is perfectly priced and delivers a wonderful jet stream of air. Out of the box, the first and most noticeable and admirable aspect of this fan is the weighted base. The fan specifications state that the fan is just over thirteen pounds. I would speculate that ten of those are just in the pedestal. The good part about this is that the base is hard to knock over. The amount of air forced out of the fan on any of its three low, medium, or high settings would be problematic for a more inferior design. The Holmes big breeze snaps together quickly and easily. The unit is tall and will take up some real estate within the room. The fan is aesthetically pleasing though and blends into the environment well despite its substantial stature. This fan does allow the user to adjust the height between forty one inches tall up to forty nine inches tall. A wonderful addition that is less common is the inclusion of a pivoting head. I love this feature; as mentioned, I will run a fan just to have ambient noise. The fan is not super quiet but is well within an acceptable range. Low is good, and the TV stays at a normal level. However, on high, it is blowing an excessive amount of air around, and that is not a super quiet feat, no matter which brand of fan you are using. So again, the Holmes is well within tolerance ranges while on high. There are two negative notes on this particular fan that trial and error have taught me are not ideal. The first is that the fan has thin plastic clips where it connects the blade cover over the blade housing. I would have liked to have seen a metal screw here or at least a harder plastic connector. I want to add a disclaimer that this is only what I did because of this next issue, and in no fashion am I recommending this. The other issue is that the power cord is entirely too short. My simple fix here was the addition of an extension cord. My overall impression is that this fan is an absolute win. My previous record with a fan was almost seven years. I have a hunch that the Holmes Big Breeze will knock that out of the park. 10/10 highly recommend.
