Great mood setter

The HoMedics is a pretty nice feature to add as a center piece or coffee table piece that offers both unique style and home mediation properties. The RGB lighting offers different colors and effects which can be set depending on the mood.
Out of the box you receive the main bowl, sand, comb, glass top, metal ball, and power cable. There is a free app that is needed as well in order to utilize the different patterns. Set up is easy and pain free leaving no mess. Simply place the bowl at your desired location, pour the sand inside, use the provided rake to evenly spread the sand and then place the metal ball in the center and plug it in. The set up is very basic and straight forward. Through the app you can set your different colors and effects. Sand designs can also be chosen from the different pre-set patterns. As far as i could tell there was no option to create your own patterns so you were forced to use their patterns. There is a decent amount of designs to choose from including holiday themed designs that say "#1 dad" or stockings hanging for Christmas. They do have additional patterns designs that you can download as well keeping the patterns feeling fresh and new. Once the desired pattern is selected the built in magnet will locate the metal ball and start to create the design. Design speed as well as brightness can all be adjusted from the main menu. You also have a the ability to set up deferent playlist and schedules as well. For example you can choose to have 4 different designs playing on a loop so that there is always something going on. Or you can choose to have the ball stop after each design is completed so that you can admire it for a bit. Also after each design is created there is no need to smooth the sand out again as the metal ball will reset the canvas each time a new pattern is created. It will simply just write over the existing background based on the new design. Even though it writes over the existing background it does it in a way that does not hinder or take away from the quality of the new design. The writing on the sand does provide a kind of ASMR effect and the added RGB lighting helps to set the mood in a dark room or atmosphere. The only thing i would of loved to see implemented in this design is a built in speaker to allow for sounds to be played such as binaurals for sleeping. Place this underneath a T.V., while watching a movie with the RGB lighting on and you've got yourself a nice relaxing night.

Calming Zen Effect

This has got to be the coolest things since sliced bread. I never would have thought something like this could be so calming and relieve stress. You know those Zen gardens that you use a rake with to create patterns? This is an electric version of that and automatically makes patterns for you. Just watch the ball go around and create beautiful designs. I consider it even more than a Zen garden because it does all the work leaving you time to just sit and enjoy. This really takes your mind off of all the stress in your life. The whole family can enjoy its presence.
This comes in two sizes (16” & 20”) with the drift bowl (2 different colors black and white), glass top, power cord, sand, ball bearing, rake and quick user guide. It is simple to set up. You will find a place where you will want to keep it, put the sand in the drift, then rake it a bit to make sure it is somewhat even. Put the ball bearing in the center (look carefully for this because it is wrapped and found in the Accessory triangle box) and place the cover on top. Once it is plugged in, it will start the “clean” design. I liked this because if I didn’t have the sand perfect, this makes it happen. There is a power button on the bowl so you can turn it off/on without using the app.
You will need to make sure to have an area for this that is somewhat close to an outlet. There is a very long cord which was more than enough for me, so this wasn’t a problem. I set mine up on the coffee table and put a small slit in the rug to put the power cord through so it goes under it so that the power cord can be hidden from sight.
The app for this is wonderful. It is easy to navigate and has over 30 different designs you can choose from. My favorite is the flowers. You can also change the color of the light to any color you could think of and desire. If you prefer certain patterns, you can create your own playlist and it will make those patterns for you. You can even have the lights breathe to help you breathe in and out to it so that you can relieve that tension and stress from the day. I highly recommend this. It is entertaining for the whole family and quite a conversation piece on my coffee table when I have company.

Is it something you HAVE to have...No. Is it fun...Yes! The design is nice and looks good sitting on a table or shelf in your living space. The device offers dozens of patterns, and the entire family has enjoyed seeing those patterns made. The led lighting is nice and gives you a lot of flexibility to illuminate it and the space around in in different ways.
The build quality is quite high and it has a nice aesthetic to it. The glass on the top is solid and fits really well. The sand is a crisp white color and looks really good. It's surprising to me how precise this thing is at making the design each and every time. You'd think there would be some variance, but there really isn't.
I have no issues getting the bluetooth to connect on my android device, but it outright doesn't appear on my ipad in the list of bluetooth devices nearby. no idea why this is, but that is kind of a big deal because i use an ipad in the living room to manage household devices more than my phone. and a lot of people use apple devices.
my only other complaint is around the available patterns. now surely they will offer more over time. and right now it has a lot to choose from. what was crazy to me is that it had christmas and hanukkah patterns, but not one single pattern for happy birthday!! that seems crazy to me.
anyway, i think its fun and would recommend it to someone looking for something like this, but otherwise it's a want more than a need.

Incredible tool for those with ADHD

Perfect way to relax especially as an adult with ADHD. This is a therapeutic device that really helps me calm down my mind when I get a little anxious. The settings and app are excellent but I find it easier to just be random with the shapes and patterns. Having ADHD means that I always try to predict what is next, which is great in both ways. Having a predictable pattern is nice to have to remain relaxed, but also having no idea what pattern will come next also peaks my interest.
I can imagine this little table, which is actually bigger than I thought, is very useful for anyone who struggles with ADHD or anxiety. It also makes a great coffee table centerpiece, better for an end table. Guests love to see this when they visit and its a great piece of functional decoration.
I recommend this to anyone who desperately needs help meditating, relaxing their mind or as a quick way to "reset" your brain during stressful situations.
It's not actually a "table" by the way, its large but not something you place on the ground.

Simply, I love this thing. It does exactly what it is meant to. It does it well. Full stop.
The setup process is very easy, you will have zero issues. The “build” of everything seems solid and well-built. There is a glass top which is probably a good idea for most, but I really liked it more without it. Just something to note. Further, everything is easy to control via the app (there are some minimal manual controls as well), be it patterns, lighting, lists, schedules, etc…again, I don’t think it will be a problem for anyone.
As someone who has (slightly) ventured into the world of meditation and mindfulness over the past few years, this had immediate appeal to me. There is no doubt in my mind that this table helps with relaxation and helps encourage and promote mindfulness and mediation. Beyond that though, on a more basic level, it is just “fun” to watch and experience. On perhaps the most basic level, it is just a “cool” piece to have in your home. There are many ways to take value from this device.
Now, as to what value this has really comes down to the individual. I do really think everyone would benefit from having this sand table. It just works as a calming center. That said, some may not be willing to simply take the time. For some its value may just be home décor, and while I think that is a miss, it does also fill that role.
In the end, I love this device. It gives me exactly what I am looking for from it. Calm. Peace. Whatever you want to call it. Beyond that though, it is just fun, AND it looks good in my place as well. If it can lead to a friend or acquaintance also exploring mindfulness, then that is just a nice bonus.

Receiving this on my doorstep was a wonderful surprise. I wasn't expecting it to be as large and heavy as it is. It will be far easier for you to set this up with a helping hand. Pulling it out of the box and setting it up was exciting because I have never gotten something like this.
I set it up on the table, poured the sand in, spread it around, added the ball, and turned it on. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth. I installed the app and connected to the table. I was quite surprised at all of the options for patterns available.
I have children, and two of them have anxiety issues. I thought this would be something they could spend some time with and relax. They really seem to enjoy it.
I was hoping to get the bigger model, but this was all they had left. I must say that it is far larger than I expected. I haven't gotten a ruler or tape measure out, but I'm fairly certain the 16 inches is the internal diameter.
My only complaint is that it only connects via Bluetooth. I would be a little happier if it could connect over Wi-Fi. Every time I open the app to interact with it, I have to choose the device. I'd love to be able to add patterns to the table when I'm not home to surprise the family... I can still do it, but I have to do it before I leave the house.

HomeMedics Drift meditation is very cutting edge. But I for soothing lights, which are a lovely centerpiece to any room that you place it in. The company app lets you change colors change patterns, and it makes virtually millions of designs. The light is very calming and accents any room. And with the app, you can make some excellent color transitions. Okay, I'm exaggerating, but there are a lot of designs. And with the design playlist, you can change it throughout the day. The bowl is a compact, easy-to-place unit, but it's a showstopper. Set up was very quick, but the time you enjoy it is unlimited. I love the app I do. It's straightforward to use. I would recommend this to anyone looking to relax and enjoy a moment. You get everything in the box the Sand, The bowl, and the magic ball. I wish I would have gotten the 21in, but I am satisfied for now. It's not a cheaper item, but it is well worth the investment. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to create a calming space.

Its cool but not worth the outrageous price

I actually got this at Bed Bath and Beyond out of business sales half off and its a really cool item, however was surprised setting this up that the bowl itself is heavy plastic, not metal or clay or anything really heavy, its a lither plastic which I was shocked at, since this looks more like metal of some sort. The set up is easy, download the app on iphone or android, place the bowl on a table or flat surface, pour in sand, rake it evenly and put metal ball in center and start the app with a design. The app is cool, you can download various patters, change the colors, set up a schedule and even control speed of ball and color changing. IT would of been nice if there was some sort of white noise or noise config with this, but its fine. Watching the ball do its work is pretty mesmerizing and is cool how it moves. Not sure however if this item is worth the price point, I mean I paid half price and it was still outrageous for what you get. But still worth the buy.

Decorative Item

This is quite unique and something that we can all appreciate but may not need. So at this price-point the value may depend on the utility it may have for the consumer or the yearning one may have for it as a purely decorative item.
So, as a decorative piece of your room, this is simply 5 stars, albeit at a pretty hefty price point. It comes well packaged that seems worthy of the cost but with NO instructions. So if you need a little manual then you will be unhappy. However, the app is the one you need to download and it will give you most of the instructions you will need. So, there is a big piece that you will need to fill up with sand and then rake the sand with a tool that is provided. The glass top goes up next and you plug it in and it starts doing its thing. There are two physical button: one to stop/start and the other is to switch colors. Again, with the app you can change to design and the colors in intervals and have a playlist that is super nifty. The one criticism is that it comes with one metal ball and I hope there would have been one more in the package that would be an extra just in case. The glass top comes off easily and while it can be helpful if you want to take it off and play with the sand, there should have been a locking feature without which the top somehow looks flimsily attached.
The designs are awesome. I guess they have a program with a magnetic driver that makes the ball move around creating the designs on the sand. With the appropriate background music and colors, the ambience can be very nice if one chooses wisely. You can control the speed of the design and the patterns list from the app so keep your phone handy. I wish the physical buttons allowed more options to play with as the app is the constant feature you need to use always and can become cumbersome. I am not sure about the clinical affects this has on the psyche and the meditative/healing inferences that can be drawn clinically but as a show piece in your room the set is simply awesome. However, one may need to tower over it to appreciate the beauty as it cannot be put on a wall facing you.
Recommended based on the consumer's wallet and their needs.

What a cool meditation device and conversation starter. When I first heard about this Drift meditation table, I didn’t know what to think, but a metal ball drawing intricate images in the sand is pretty awesome in and of itself. The Drift Meditation Sand Table isn’t really a table, but more like a large bowl that should sit on top of a table. I was initially worried about my cat getting in and making a mess of things, but there’s a glass cover that fits over the bowl to encapsulate the sand and ball. It just rests on top though, so it’s still a good idea to keep it out of reach from little kids. Setup is a breeze, as all you have to do is pour the pouch of sand directly on the felt, drop the metal ball in, place the glass cover on top and plug it in. There’s a power button on the bowl itself, but you’ll need to download the app to change the images it creates, the lighting effects, and the ball speed. You can even create image playlists, which is pretty neat. I had trouble uploading some of the app images to the “table” as they wouldn’t upload, and I’m still not sure why. There’s already a bunch of images uploaded to the table, so I haven’t tried calling customer support about it yet, but it’s worth noting. I was kind of hoping that it would play meditation sounds like ocean waves or a calm rain, but it doesn’t and to be fair, it doesn’t advertise that it does either. It’s just a really cool bowl that magically brings an artistic steel ball to life to draw images in the sand. I’m honestly not sure if it helps me meditate at all, but it does bring me to a state of wonderment and calm when I relax and watch it do its thing. I keep the playlist running, so it’s kind of like checking in on a creative roommate to see what they’re making now. Overall, it’s a bit pricey and not a table at all, but it is really cool and a great room feature to show off to guests. If you’re looking to add something cool and unique to your place, or want to add some chill vibes to a room, definitely check out this table.

Extremely Relaxing and Fun to Watch!

I think in these times of stress at work, at home, pandemic remnants, financial worries, etc. we all need an outlet. This Meditation Sand Table has been something I look forward to almost daily once home from work. I have the 16 inch version but there is also a 21 inch round option. From the instant I received it and unboxed it, I could tell that this was going to make me happy. The packaging was solid and the table itself was secure. Unboxing it was simple and getting it set up was done within minutes. Basically, take all of the protective packaging off, sort it all out in front of you and decide where you are going to put it. Spreading the fine sand with the included hand rake made that final step a snap. I thinned it all out evenly and put the glass over the top.
Once that was all done, I downloaded the app and created my account, etc. and powered on the table. I was able to pair it via bluetooth on the first attempt and right away it let me know that it needed to run a firmware update. The download and restart of the table was done within just a couple of minutes. Using my phone, I went through a few of the designs that the table can make and hit play on one. Instantly, the steel ball started moving, the lights were changing colors gradually and my design began to come to life!
There are a lot of designs to choose from, you can create playlists or just pick one at a time. It does seem as though there will be frequent updates to what is available so you can match them to certain occasions. After getting used to what I could do, I put on some music that I like and sat there and watched it go for quite a while. Picture sitting next to it on the sofa with soft music playing while you read a book or do your other favorite relaxing activity. Simply awesome!

Woot! Woot! I've wanted an HoMedics drift Meditation Sand Table ever since I first discovered them. I'm beyond excited now to have one! It is quite simply ...amazingly wonderful!
Rest assured, this item is packaged well. The box itself even has a carry handle, which is handy since the sand table has "weight" to it. What I'm saying is that the HoMedics drift is most definitely well made.
Setup was straightforward. There is an app, and the app itself is easy to navigate. There are so many pattern choices to 'play' on the drift sand table, along with a color wheel to customize the ring of LED lights which are meant to compliment the patterns created in the sand beneath the glass top.
While this HoMedics drift Sand Table is meant to encourage mindfulness, promote meditation, increase relaxation, and "boost" your mood ... all beneficial for sure ... still, I find myself just sitting and watching that tiny silver ball create works of sand art, for the sheer simple pleasure of doing so. :) Even the 'ever so soft' sound of the sand "crunching" as the ball glides around, is delightfully pleasing.
Sure, it might seem a bit pricey. But this HoMedics drift Meditation Sand Table is well worth it. More than a mere decoration or meditation tool, and much more than a conversation piece. This sand table is truly lovely, and utterly fascinating.

The drift meditation sand table is something I didn’t realize would help me relax, even though it’s in the name. I thought I would give it a shot even though I didn’t think it would do much for me. With that ebing said, I was definitely distracted from my stressful days while I watched the drift table do its thing and literally make my mind drift away from the stresses of working from home. I emptied the fine sand into the bowl and placed the tiny metal bearing/ball where I felt the magnet attract the ball. I connected the drift table to my phone via Bluetooth and finished set up. I downloaded and loaded a vaiety of patterns to through the app and the drift table started creating patterns with different lighting. Again, I thought this was just something that wouldn’t do much for me but I ended up being able to take my mind of things by getting lost in the patterns. One of the biggest drawbacks of working from home for me is that I can’t seem to break away from work and have found myself continuously thinking about wok. For whatever reason the patterns on the drift table help disconnect work and relax my mind. I don’t fully understand why that is, but the patterns are complex and beautiful.

This a really good and silent way to deal with work stress on your desk and well worth it to allow your mind to reset and be able to drift for your health.
Setting up this table was very easy. The Packaging was well labelled to make unpacking it easy and the bluetooth pairing with my phone was very easy and on point.
Using the application to control the colours and pattern was awesome and to just watch it draw it was very nice. The fact that it is fairly silent doing it is a bonus as it isn't a distraction at work with it either.
I enjoy the thought that went into the app and allows for expansion of patterns which is a great thing.
Its just a wonder to watch it draw and changing the colors based on your mood is a fantastic option that really helps this go up a notch.
While this is on the pricey side the fact that I have something now in my office that I can use to help reduce the daily work stress is well it worth it for me, and picking different patterns and colors has been great to make each day a bit on the different side.
I can't recommend this enough if you need something different to help you relax.

The Homedics Drift is quite the marvel between technology, sand and diffused light. It's very interesting to watch how intricate the patterns are from just a steel ball making dozens of passes around the sand field. It can be quite relaxing, but even more a delight to see the varied results.
In the amount of time I have been testing what all the table can do. I originally had to use a few different phones to get it up and working, but since the recent update. Success with the app that controls the lights and patterns has been possible with both Android and Apple phones. And with all phone brands now working. The Homedics Drift should be fairly straight forward for all to use right out of the box.
Once in the app you will find many options for light colors and patterns to use for the playlist. Best of all, the patterns all seem to free to use. You can download and favorite just one or a dozen plus as a playlist. You can even tell it to pause in between designs so you have a chance to see the pattern before it creates the next. There are plenty of choices to keep seeing something new.

I must have got a defective or broken one since other reviews seem mostly positive. Either that or my android phones just aren't compatible. I actually tried three different generations of phones and none worked right. I naturally started with my current android phone which works fine with all other apps I have tried but this device failed miserably.
My newest phone ran the app fine though the app did seem a little quirky and not the easiest to use perhaps because it just wouldn't control the drift like it should have. This was using the previous version of the app which was the newest at the time. It showed the device as connecting via bluetooth and would power it off/on and occasionally change the colors of the light when requested but not always. It also updated the drift firmware (or at least seemed to) fine but that was it. None of the patterns or other controls would actually work. The little ball would sometimes wiggle a bit and you could sometimes hear noises from it but it just seemed stuck. It did sometimes start the default cleanup pattern when first powered up but that seemed independent of the app. I tried all the resets and troubleshooting methods suggested in the instructions but nothing worked.
So then I tried my old android phone but had the same result. I even tried my older phone but the app wouldn't even open on it. I finally decided to give up and wait for an update to the app which did occur recently in Aug (2022). I powered it up and it finally did one pattern which was different (though I hadn't chosen it) and that was it. The app went right back to the previous behavior with no control of the device except on/off and some color control. The device really is pretty useless without the app unless you need a giant ashtray or a fancy litterbox for your cat though you would likely need more sand for those uses.
For a device advertised as soothing and calming mine has had the opposite effect. It has been frustrating and made me grumpy instead. The only soothing effect might be smashing it with a hammer or throwing it into a brick wall but it has wasted enough of my time already. Maybe I'll just let my cat poop in it.
