Excellent performance with a few shortcomings

I bought the dehumidifier for a basement. The humidistat seems to read high (humidistats are commonly inaccurate for many reasons but this one maybe be high just because of its location in the dehumidifier). Mine read 55% when other humidistats in the basement read lower -- 50 +/- 2%. The dehumidifier continues to dehumidify until the humidity reading is 5% below the set desired humidity and then it turns off until the humidity builds up so that the humidistat reading is 5% above the desired humidity (and then the dehumidifier compressor turns back on, etc.). Mine could never drop the humidity below 45% so I set my desired humidity at 55% -- which kept the humidity between a 50 and 60% reading at the machine and between 47 and 57% in the basement according to other humidistats place around the basement. I was very pleased that the machine's performance kept the humidity below 60% everywhere in my 1250 sq ft irregular shaped basement even on low fan speed. I would have given it a 5-star rating if the compressor ran a little quieter (seemed to get louder after some use) and the drain hose setup as specified by the manufacturer allowed for a longer hose (some people seem to run a longer garden hose with no problem, though). Based on the length of the power cord and the drain hose, I could only place it in one location in my basement. I still think it is the best value dehumidifier available because of the much longer warranty than other models and because of the ability to restart after a power outage so you can trust the basement will continue to be dehumidified even when on an extended absence. My one worry bead is that the manufacturer warns that the dehumidifier should not be restarted before a 3-minute wait period -- we have power interruptions that are shorter than 3 minutes.

Fan runs continuously. Unit manufactured by a partner company for Honeywell. The parts provided for continuous draining are very low grade – go to someplace like the big orange building supply store and purchase sprinkler system parts with vinyl tubing. I put the unit in my basement shop, setpoint at 35% during late winter, the compressor lasted less than two months. Best Buy was good to credit that purchase toward purchase of the 70-pint unit.

Works great

We have to empty the water a little more often with this one since the container is smaller but we plan to run it direct to the outside so that will help with that issue. Little pricer than we expected - way higher than our last one that was larger than this one.

Quiet and efficient

The noise level is about the same as a box fan running on medium, versus our old one that sounded like an air compressor. We can even tell how much more energy efficient this one is as well, actually saw a reduction in energy usage compared to last year!

Quiet but small and stopped working in 5 months

It is actually for a small space and not for the square footage as advertised. I ended up buying the biggest one for the basement which removes more moisture and much louder.

So far, it's doing the job. I keep it downstairs in the living room. The bedrooms seem to increase 10% at night and then go down slowly during the day, so I It's doing it's job.
