This thermostat made it to where I can set and forget it. Was able to make a daily schedule that keeps the unit from running so much while I’m not home, but gets it to perfect temps while I’m here. I love it!!

So far very pleased with my purchase of this Honeywell Thermostat. Was easy to install. Had the extra C wire. Easy to view, especially like the humidity readings for both indoor and out. Also like the app so I can monitor temp from my smartphone.

Honeywell Smart Color Thermostat - Easy to install

Very easy to install i.e., wiring is red wire to screw labelled red, green to green, white to white, etc.
Intensity is bright even at #1, setting to 0 shuts the display off so touch when you need to see the readout. For me "0" is the green option as it is not using power to display. Color options allow you to match your wall color.

Disclaimer: I have central air with a TRANE gas heat furnace, already on a battery-powered digital Honeywell thermostat which only has basic thermostat operations.
My installation story - problem and apparent fix:
Upon receiving this new thermostat, I uninstalled my previous "regular" Honeywell thermostat to find my current system connected via 4 wires (green, white, yellow, and Red [Rc]). This new thermostat requires a power wire, or C-wire, to be connected from the gas furnace (in my case). Luckily, the wireset "sheath" that my thermostat uses has 8 total wires inside, so I simply connected this new thermostat to the same connection points as the previous thermostat and then connected the already-present blue (power) wire connection to this unit and the gas heater. Upon connecting, I flipped the breakers back on, set up the thermostat, set the display colors and wifi tech info, and I was set. One problem: The fan didn't turn on even though the unit showed it as "Fan on".
I checked all my connections - they were ok. I called Honeywell tech support. They said everything was wired correctly and that it was likely a TRANE issue. I called a TRANE technician, and he stated it was wired correctly over the phone. I started from scratch and went through setup again - same result. I tried going well above and below the current 65-degree temp to see if the A/C or the heat would trigger the fan to actually run. It did not.
After waking up the next morning, I decided to check the wiring inside the thermostat and everything was tightly connected. Upon placing the thermostat back on the base unit, the thermostat went though its checks, initialized the system, and eventually turned on WITH THE FAN.
After speaking with another Honeywell representative, it appears that the unit just needed to be reseated in order for this "glitch" to clear as no wires were changed, tightened, or moved during this process of removing and reseating the thermostat unit to the base plate. Very strange.
OBSERVATIONS:
The unit works and looks great and is easy to operate. You can operate via the Honeywell Wi-Fi app, your PC browser, or the unit itself. It can be operated from anywhere by using the app/PC. Setup for temperature scheduling was simple.
The fixture itself has a brightness/color/hue setting which is set for both active and passive modes. Active is when you are currently touching the screen... passive mode takes affect after 5-10 seconds of not touching the screen. The current temperature is displayed in the middle of the screen which is very easy to read from a long distance away. Display also shows indoor humidity along with outdoor temp/humidity.
The unit itself is rather small. Keep in mind that if you replace a bigger unit with this one, you will need to check the paint behind your previous unit, or in my case, an electrical box like the ones used for light switches/plugs but mounted horizontally. There was actually a small hole visible on one side of my unit, so I'll need to fill that in with some spackle and then paint. If your thermostat is in a very visible area, you may want to consider this prior to installation. I have requested Honeywell to develop some sort of frame (or multiple frames) to go around the unit for cases such as this. Then wall repair or painting can be totally avoided.
Overall, the thermostat is working great. Other than the "glitch" of the fan not blowing until I reseated the unit to the base, it has worked fine. The touch-screen is awesome and put together well. Arrangement of options on the display are perfectly placed. And the ability to check or change temperature at anytime, anywhere is a huge plus.
Great job, Honeywell.

Great for Grandma! Easy to Use. Reliable WiFi.

As the title says, this thermostat is so easy to use, my mom (a grandma) can control it. I bring this up because for years my mom struggled with the basic digital thermostat that came with the system. The old thermostat had a numerical monochrome display that she had a hard time seeing, on top of not being able to remember which direction to press the arrows. All that confusion is gone with this Honeywell Thermostat. It has a decent size (about 4 inches) back-lit color screen that she can easily view. The way the temperatures are presented (laid-out) on the main screen is clear and intuitive. The larger number positioned in the center of the screen is the current temperature inside the house. And the slightly smaller number to the right is the temperature you can set your air conditioning/heater at. She simply has to read the words "Indoors" and "Set To" above the respected temperatures. This simple language has made all the difference in allowing her to run her HVAC system properly. And like with all new technology, she was a little hesitant at first using the touch screen, but the interface is well designed, and she got used to operating it in no time.
Installation was very simple. Our system had a C-wire, so there weren’t any modifications needed. If you end up finding out that you don’t have a C-wire, the instructions provide an alternative installation process that allows you to use the G-wire in place of the C-wire. The G-wire normally controls the operation of the system’s fan, but if it used as a substitute for the C-wire, then the fan can no longer be used independently. What this means is that the fan will only turn on/off when the air conditioning or heater is running. If you never run the fan independently, then this won’t be a problem. If you would like to maintain that functionality, then an electrician will need to install a C-wire on your system. Honeywell’s website provides a lot of information and videos regarding this and other installation topics.
Our electricity bill ended up being lower this month (22% lower) compared to the same month last year (see image). It’s hard to say how much of the improvement in usage was due to the thermostat, but that was the observation for the first month of use. Considering all the outside factors that come into play, like the weather, one factor that may have led to better efficiency is the accuracy of the thermostat sensor itself. The old thermostat’s sensor may not have been as accurate, leading to the system running longer than necessary. The sensor on this new thermostat may be more accurate. I did notice the system not taking as long to reach the desired temperatures we selected.
And finally, the WiFi enabled functions work very well. It was simple to setup and initialize, and easy to manage over the computer and Honeywell’s app. I was ready to assist my mom remotely if she needed help using the new thermostat, but that assistance was never needed. Overall, I’m very satisfied with this unit, and would recommend it to others looking to upgrade their thermostat.

Honeywell has built a stellar reputation for Energy Management, Security & Precision Temperature Control in Commercial Buildings & Homes. With the popularity of "Smart" Thermostats, many previously unheard of brands appeared. Unfortunately, independent testing found some of the most popular "Smart" Thermostats actually maintain 3 degree F accuracy! Model # RTH9585WF is a Generation 2 Honeywell Smart Thermostat, and like Gen 1, it is rated to maintain 1 degree F accuracy.
Installation is as simple as following a video, or reading a PDF. If you can place colored wires under a screw, you can master this installation with ease! There is even a toll free help line.
This thermostat features very large numbers that can be read across the room. Outside Temperature (sourced via the Internet using your Zip Code), Set Point & Actual Room Temperature are Boldly displayed.
The background color behind the numerals is easily adjustable & can be set to match a theme / season / wall color / favorite team.
The free App on iOS & Android is very easy to activate. Once the quick registration process is complete, you can monitor & change temperature anywhere in the world!
Amazon Echo products & Google Home both work great with this Honeywell, and do not require an intermediary hub. This thermostat is designed for voice control from both "Alexa" & "OK Google"!
One improvement I could recommend for a future Generation of this Honeywell would be the ability to purchase & connect Wireless Remote Sensors for temperature control of other rooms throughout the house.
Another would be to integrate humidity control wirelessly. The run time on Central A/C has a dramatic effect on humidity, in addition to temperature. I owned the Honeywell "Perfect Climate Comfort Center Control System" with both of these features via hardwired sensors. They worked GREAT, but I wanted a Smart Wi-Fi Thermostat, so I naturally stayed with Honeywell.
Measuring 0.75 x 4.5 x 3.5 in, this is a slim, bright, good looking precision instrument that earned my Highest Recommendation!

I installed this unit following the instructions including digging the blue wire out of the wall. It seemed to work great!
Then, I had a leak coming from my ceiling because the unit will keep the outside unit running and freezing up the heat exchanger like a block of ice (literally, I have pictures.)
I had an Air Conditioning tech come out and inspect everything, the unit is fully functional and pulling the Thermostat off the wall shuts it down everytime.
I spent 2 hours on the phone with Tech Support in Mexico, and they confirmed it was all done correctly.
I received my survey post phone call and detailed my experience and the issues I had. I requested them reach out, they did not.
BUY SOMETHING ELSE, their product is either defective, their unit is defective and THEY DON'T CARE.
Oh yeah, if you're into electric bills that are double your normal, this is the right product - YOUR UNIT WILL STAY ON ALL DAY whether or not it's cooling your house.

Moving away from nest after units stop calling for cool air after being installed for two years(2nd time). Just received two of these units. Installed the first one and set up the app. Unit seems nice. App and seyching the device to wifi is a bit wonky compared to say a nest device. Went to install my second device and it is used amd missing pieces. Awesome. Now i will have to go to the store to get a replacement. Cant beleive that best buy didnt know since the return sticker was in the box.
