60 Days - Faulty Sensor - No Support

Customer Support is non existent after business hours. I could not find a way to leave an email message. The loops went through articles that did not address my problem. My problem is this. After 2 months, the unit is giving me an error message that says "faulty sensor" "replace thermostat." I would expect a Honeywell thermostat to last more than 60 days.

I've had different Honeywell thermostats over the years, almost exclusively. What sets the Honeywell apart for me vs other thermostats is the fact that they always just work. That said, they also seem to be all cut from the same cloth. You can see that even in this top tier model. The RTH9585WF model is the newest in the series of the WiFi Smart Color thermostats. Unlike the Lyric series, this series is a simple programmable model without the geofencing and other interesting features of that series. The Smart Colors claim to fame is found in it's name, the various colors chosen as backgrounds. While that may sound a bit vain, it's a concern for some who would like to color match their interface with their decor. I found the default blue to be a nice color, but there are many shade to choose from. You can also pick a custom color. The adjustments for custom allow you to pick thousands of shades. The general functionality of the thermostat is pretty solid. You get a large current temperature, along with the current set temp, and outside temperature. Touching the outside temp gives you a 3 period (current +6 hours and +12 hours). The default schedule is a great starting point for most. You can easily customize it and setup different schedules for each day. You can even set a temporary schedule to override. Since my family situation leaves someone at home most of the time, the programming features go to waste. The good news is that it's easy and fast to switch the thermostat to temporary hold and/or permanent hold right from the home screen. One feature that's pretty unique to honeywell is the Smart Response technology that learns how long your system takes to heat up, so that you can set the schedule to what temperature you want when you want it instead of having to compensate for the time. I've used this in other Honeywell thermostats to great effect. The touchscreen is definitely resistive, but responsive. The wifi connectivity seem solid and the Alexa integration is quite useful for my household. The app is ~ok~ and gives you the ability to adjust the schedule, current settings, and view a 5 day weather schedule. The Marketplace section of the app is initially just trying to sell you more things, so it's kind of a waste of space. Initial setup was quite difficult for me, as I lacked a 'C' wire. Luckily for me I had a bunch of extra wires, so it was just crawling under my house and patching into one of the 24v wires on the transformer. If you're handy and not scared of a little wiring, it's no big deal. Hopefully it's easier than my system, as my old Goodman from '97 required some pretty manual wiring. I patched a blue wire into my air-conditioning hookup and was in business. Once powered up, it was a simple manner of following the initial setup. WiFi setup was painless, but typing a password in on the screen was a bit awkward. Good news is it keeps programmed even if disconnected, so it's a pretty one-time affair. This pattern of initial pain was continued when it came to registering and pairing the thermostat for online features. After you register you need to input both a mac address and CRC code. This temporary pair could have been simplified (as many online registration systems use 4 digit codes), but again, it's only initial pain. Once you're past the pain, it's a great thermostat, with a nice bright screen, handy features, and remote management. I'd have loved to see them combine features of the Lyric series, but at the end of the day I wouldn't have used those features anyway. I think most people will need to cross shop this with a Nest. Honestly, if all you want is to be able to yell "Alexa turn up the heat downstairs", then this does the trick, and stays stylish at that. If you have a regular weekly schedule and value behavior similar to your 10 year old Honeywell then this is your thermostat. However if you're really interested in geofencing, or fancy sensors figuring out if anyone is home, or budgeting/estimation tools build in this is not your thermostat. At the suggest MSRP I find some of the functionality lacking for the money, but it's hard to knock something that (once setup) works flawlessly.

Honeywell - Smart Color Thermostat with Wi-Fi Connectivity - Silver Honeywell has a nice Wi-Fi thermostat here but it feels incomplete. First off I do give Honeywell credit for making the install or in my case replacement fairly easy. When you read the install instructions it will say you must have a “C” wire. The “C” wire provides continuous power to the thermostat and is said to be required. Thankfully it also provides instructions in case you don’t have this “C” wire. I am no expert but my house was built in 2004 and it had an older programmable Honeywell thermostat. I did have the “C” wire and I suspect if your current thermostat does not need batteries and is digital that you probably also have this “C” wire. Once you remove the front of your existing thermostat it won’t take long before you know if you have the “C” wire or not. With my older thermostat I never really tried to program it on it’s small screen. I mostly ran it on a fixed temperature and would just move it up and down as needed. This version is easy to program both on the device itself, using the Android or IOS app or the desktop webpage. The same can be said for the simple WiFi connection to my home network. The instructions for how to wire were clear and Honeywell also provides quite a bit of online resources, videos and a toll free number. The only issue I had was the surprise I found when I removed the old thermostat. Behind I found a sloppy made hole for the wire bundle and once removed some of the drywall broke away making the wire hole bigger. That’s not Honeywell’s fault but if they had made their mounting backplate a little bigger or even added an optional backplate that was just a little bigger it would have made the install easier and simpler. If you do a search and watch a few online videos you can see this surprise appears to be common. The display color choices are very well done and I found an off white color that made the display very clear and easy to ready. I was very impressed with the color options that were available. The display is clear and gives you quite a bit of information that is very easy to read and understand. Everything is working well but I did have a few issues. One is the mobile app was a bit confusing. When you make a change it doesn’t really have any instructions on how to save your changes. The changes are saved but I had problems of the screen locking up and the only way I knew the changes were saved was when I came back to the screen after restarting the app. I didn’t have this problem with the PC website or on the device itself. This device can also be controlled by Google Home or your Amazon Alexa. Setting it up to my Google Home took all of five minutes and it works well. I just did a web search and found the instructions. The Honeywell support page has Alexa instructions but not for Google Home. Still it was very easy to setup. One final thing I am still puzzled about and that is the thermostat cannot automatically switch from the air conditioner to the heater. I could not find information that says that feature is supported and there are no settings that give you that as an option. Honeywell does say it has “Advanced fan/comfort control”, but the only options are always on, auto and circulate which they say “Fans runs randomly, about 35% of the time”. This is a nice device, it is easy to install, it does work with your smart home assistant and the display is very nice. But not having the ability to automatically switch from heating and cooling without me manually changing the system from heating to cooling is a feature that is lacking or at least poorly explained.

I really like this new thermostat from Honeywell. It's got a nice looking display and is very easy to use. I'm a pretty avid do-it-yourselfer, and install took me roughly 20 minutes. This was mostly disconnecting and labeling the wires off my old thermostat. Attaching the wires to the new thermostat is a breeze. Even if you're not comfortable with something like this the instructions are pretty thorough, and they also recommend a couple of videos to watch as well. Unless you're doing a brand new install it's a matter of removing wires from your old thermostat and attaching them to the new one. Once you power your AC back on the thermostat walks you step-by-step through what to do next. Set-up can be super easy, or super involved depending on whether you want to set up a "schedule" or not. You don't have to--the honeywell operates just fine as a regular thermostat, but it can help your electric bill if you do. Besides, you didn't buy a fancy new thermostat like this not to program it (or run it from your phone, or your google assisant, or whatever). The schedule instructions are pretty simple, and it walks you through each day of the week, asking when people are home, when they leave, and what temperature you like it when you sleep. It even asks when the first person wakes up and when the last person goes to sleep. Connecting to wi-fi was also extremely simple. It's also not something you have to do, unless you want a "smart home"--connecting to wi-fi allows you to adjust the temperature with your smart phone, or with spoken commands through either Google assistant or Amazon Alexa. I actually have both and will say the Google Assistant seems to be a bit more responsive, though the set up was also a bit more in depth. The display itself looks very nice--it's not quite as "space age" looking as the Nest, but that's okay as this actually fits my decor a bit better. You can change from a wide-variety of color displays which is cool for matching paint colors and decor. It displays the indoor temperature and humidity level, the outdoor temperature and humidity level, and the current thermostat settings. Overall if you're looking for a good, wi-fi enabled smart thermostat that isn't going to break the bank then you'll appreciate this model from Honeywell.

I choose this thermostat I like the quality of Honeywell products and the Nest was too high for my budget. My only disappointment with this item is the screen seems very small for the price. I thought it was going to be bigger after unboxing. Guess you can’t have it all. My neighbor offered to hook this up for me as he installed the “Nest” in his home. He missed the fact that the “C” wire was not connected in my HVAC first. It was there however. We ended up calling an AC company to come out to properly hook up the C wire from the HVAC to this thermostat. You will NEED this to power your thermostat. Took him 5 minutes. Looked easy but DO not let anyone try and hook this up unless trained professional. Seemingly Easy Set up overall. VERY user friendly as I have been running my ac 3 days now. NO issues works great. Love the app so I can change controls from my couch instead of heading to the hallway. Nice color options. Overall pretty happy.

I've had this thermostat for over 5 years now, purchased and installed June 2019. Not sure if I ever gave a review of it, so I'm doing one now. I like that it is able to give a lot of information on the screen - time of day, temp outside, and more. The wifi connectivity is also great. I am able to make adjustments on my cellphone with such ease. Don't waste your $$$ on those fancy, trendy looking smart thermostats. They are not worth it. This is a MUST BUY, if you are looking to upgrade smartly !

Keeping my home at the perfect temperature!

Keeping my home at the perfect temperature has never been easier. The Honeywell Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat is one of those purchases you make and then realize it was well overdue and forces you to reflect on the reasons why you waited so long to get it. This thermostat makes things so much more convenient. It’s easy and simple to use via the color touch screen or via the downloadable app. You can even control it from the Honeywell website. I originally waited a week to have a technicain come to clean my forced-air gas heater and install the control unit. When I initially reviewed the installation instructions they appeared to be complicated as there were more wires to disconnect and even more to connect. However, when the tech arrived, he cleaned the heater and attempted to connect the new thermostat. He was unable to connect it based on my current wiring and left with the old one disconnected from the wall. Therefore I decided to try it myself by following the step by step instructions. I also read the installation guide and watched the YouTube videos. I discovered that I have an older wiring system and needed to take some extra steps to get my Honeywell Thermostat to work as intended. The instructions are well organized and detailed oriented. Turns out I didn’t need the tech after all. I was able to connect the system myself. I am not an electrician, I’m not even a handyman. I simple followed the step by step guide and watched the video that best reflected my wiring system and it worked. It’s so easy to program that you actually don’t have to read the manual (but you should for safety reasons and to maximize all of the features). I set the date, time, programed my settings and actually found a color that matched my walls perfectly. I also granted another household member access. I am now able to see both the indoor and outdoor temperatures and well as the humidity from anywhere inside and outside of the home. You can even set alerts. Often times during cold seasons when I am headed home, I dread getting out of my warm car into my cold home; that’s no longer an issue. I simply program my Honeywell Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat to start and turn off at a certain time and day of the week or set the home to warm about 30 minutes before I get home. Knocking off that chill in the house is a breeze! The money you save by programming it to turn on only when necessary will pay for the unit. I no longer have to run downstairs to turn off my unit or add extra blankets to my bed because I don’t want to get up to turn on and off the heater. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed in purchasing this Thermostat.

I don't think it has the cool factor of the Nest or even Honeywell's own Lyric thermostats, but getting the full on-screen control setup is really nice and it's a very easy-to-use thermostat. The overall look of this thermostat is much nicer than the pictures make it seem. I was surprised at how compact it was - the packaging makes it look a lot bigger than it actually is and I was glad to find that the footprint it occupies was even smaller than my old thermostat (4.5in wide x 3.5in tall x 1in deep). It takes up roughly the same amount of space a Nest would, though obviously it's rectangular instead of circular. Installation was pretty straight-forward; Honeywell's documentation for it and the wire color codes is really good and I never has any trouble figuring out where to connect my wires. I did find I had to go back to my furnace and connect the 'C' wire that actually powers the thermostat because my previous thermostat was battery powered, but besides that the physical installation was pretty easy. I consider myself somewhat of a novice when it comes to home-improvement stuff, so most anyone with basic experience with tools should be able to get this put in. Once the thermostat was powered on it's a simple setup process to tell it what kind of heat/cooling system you have and connect it to your Wi-Fi. Once it was all setup using the thermostat itself was great. All the controls are very clear and easy to get to and setting up a schedule was refreshingly simple. The screen is bright a clear, but not so bright that it would blind you in a dark hallway. The background color is also customizable and you can pick from a pretty wide range, though in my opinion the white color goes with the silver bezels the best. Being a Wi-Fi thermostat, it can be controlled via Honeywell's own app, as well most every smart home service from Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, and more. I found the Honeywell's app to be functional, but dated.I didn't have any problems with it, but the Android interface looks like it's from 4 or 5 years ago. So far with my Google Home I've only been able to get it to turn the heat on and off; anything I've tried outside of that like specifying a temperature comes back with an error. I do hope this can be fixed by Honeywell. Overall I'd definitely recommend this if you're looking for a smart thermostat that still has all of its functionality available onscreen.

Welcome to probably the best thermostat yet. Honeywell RTH9585WF was clearly thinking of customers needs and wants when designing this WiFi smart color thermostat. Let’s start with cons: There’s really nothing bad about this but you will need to have some basic tech skills and electrical knowledge to complete setup. If you don’t have that I recommend finding a friend or maybe a professional to avoid possible frustration. Now the good stuff: Installation for me was very quick and easy because I have basic homeowner skills. The instructions provided by Honeywell are very easy to follow and Honeywell also have YouTube videos to give you visual step by step directions. I do want to point out something that I find important to know is the large touchscreen thermostat fits in a small frame so you might have to paint the drywall if the new Honeywell is smaller than your old thermostat. When you have your wiring done correctly and your Honeywell RTH9585WF is mounted on the wall it will guide you through the basic setup such as WiFi and more. Features: This thermostat is loaded with features so I’ll list some of my favorites. I love the free app that you can download from your iOS or Android App Store. You can change your temperature settings without getting out of bed or even away from home. You can schedule the week from your thermostat or app. By the way the 5 day weather forecast is in the app for your convenience. Passcode lock is also available in the settings if you need restrictions for those using your thermostat. The interface both on the thermostat and app are both great. The key information you may need to know are simply displayed for you. Yes you can compare things like the indoor humidity with the outside humidity. The Honeywell thermostat looks great. You can even make it look better by going to settings and change the background to match your paint color. The Honeywell is energy star certified, it has a list of smart home partners such as Google, and the list can continue but to some it up I’m excited about the Honeywell RTH9585WF WiFi color thermostat and I know you will too.

Our furnace, air conditioner and thermostat were all replaced in 2006, in a house built in 1985. I don’t remember if the thermostat wiring was replaced at that time or not. Our current thermostat is a very simple set-back thermostat that runs on alkaline batteries and does not use a C wire. I happen to have all of the manuals and installation instructions for all of our HVAC products, and that helps to sort out the installation and set-up process of this Honeywell thermostat. Our high-efficiency Trane brand furnace has a C wire terminal, marked “B/C”. The old set-back thermostat required four wires to hook it up, but luckily our thermostat wiring is a five-conductor cable. To install this Honeywell RTH9585 thermostat, I only had to utilize the unused fifth wire in the cable and hook it up to the appropriate terminal on the furnace circuit board and I had my needed C wire connection (this is a simplification of what I actually had to do, but in essence is what the end result was). This made me happy because if I had to use the alternative hook up with the green wire, I would lose the ability to use the fan continuously (according to the “C Wire Addendum” that comes with the User Guide) and that is something that I occasionally do depending on the season and the weather. When mounting the thermostat wallplate to the wall, check to see if either of the screw locations will hit a stud (one of mine did) as the included screws are long enough to pass through typical 1/2” thick drywall. If you just go ahead and drill two 3/16” holes for the drywall anchors, and hit a stud, the 3/16” hole drilled will be too big to use the screw by itself. If a hole lands on a stud, drill a 7/64” or 3/32” hole and you can use just the screw without using the plastic anchor. The thermostat body snaps onto the wallplate with a lot of pressure. I suggest snapping the thermostat on and off the wallplate numerous times before mounting the wallplate to the wall as this will make it easier to pull the thermostat from the wallplate in the future if you need to remove it. The one thing missing from this thermostat is a larger wallplate trim ring to cover holes left over from the old thermostat installation. I fabricated my own from a piece of sheet styrene purchased from a hobby shop (see picture). My old Lux thermostat came with one, and I’m guessing it would have cost Honeywell less than $0.25 to include one. Kind of an oversight on a $200 item if you ask me. Once you get over the wiring hurdle, installation, set-up and programming of this Honeywell thermostat is really easy. Their web site is well done, the instruction manual is well written, and the menus and walk-through on the thermostat itself are all exceptionally well done. Honeywell, whose name was once synonymous with home thermostats, I feel has been under pressure in recent years from a number of different thermostat manufacturers, but they have really redeemed themselves with this model. The only thing that is really missing is geofencing capability, but after doing some reading about this feature, I’m not so sure it is something I would find useful. I have had a few times where the app on my phone appears to be unresponsive to my commands. If I close the app and reopen it, it works fine, so I have gotten in the habit of closing it once I make my adjustment and then open it again in the future when I need to use it. We are also having a little difficulty figuring out how to set up my wife’s phone to allow her to make remote adjustments to the thermostat that is registered with my email address. I’m sure it is something simple we have overlooked, but it is a little frustrating nonetheless. The main thing I like about this thermostat versus the competition is all the information that is displayed on the screen “at idle”. When you haven’t used the thermostat for a bit, the display dims slightly, but is still very legible without needing to be touched. The following information is available on the “Home” screen without having to scroll through different displays and/or menus: current temperature, set temperature, outdoor temperature, both indoor and outdoor humidity, current time, and the time when the next programmed change takes place. A quick tap of the outdoor temperature gets you more current weather details and the forecast for 6 and 12 hours in the future - quick and easy when you are headed out the door and want to know the need for a coat or umbrella. The RTH9585 is a very full featured thermostat that can do just about anything a homeowner would want or need an HVAC controller to do. I’m going to just talk about the features for residential use. Business use is the other alternative, but I suspect most business owners will just have a contractor install a thermostat of the contractor’s choice and won’t go shopping for one on their own. Obviously the thermostat can follow a set schedule of temperature changes for each day of the week (meaning each of seven days can be different from the others), but you can also change from the typical four schedules per day to just two if that is all you need. There is a fan option to run randomly about 35% of the time to circulate the air in the house. This is a nice option compared to having to run the fan continuously (which is still an option with this thermostat). There is a setting for the thermostat to change over automatically from heating to cooling. There are reminders for the filter and humidifier pad. You can set a vacation hold until a certain date and time and the thermostat will heat or cool your house for your return. There is a mode to allow you to clean the screen for 30 seconds without disturbing any settings. There is a lock mode that allows partial lockout (only temperature can be changed) or full lockout and you can also set a password to unlock the thermostat. Honeywell’s “Smart Response Technology” that anticipates ramp-up time to reach a given temperature by a specific time gives you the option of turning this feature off. The display can show Fahrenheit or Celsius temperatures and 12-hour or 24-hour time with Daylight Saving Time turned on or off. There are also settings specific for using the thermostat in a business setting. The thermostat will work without Wi-Fi, but you do lose some of the features. You can also set your account to send you email alerts if the temperature or humidity go outside of the range you specify. The phone app also gives you the option of voice control and the Honeywell Total Connect Comfort App will interface with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, IFTTT, and SmartThings. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, you can change the color of the screen to match your decor. Ours is set on black background with white lettering as I like easy-to-read contrast since I have gotten older. I can recommend this thermostat to the average and above do-it-yourselfer and I don’t think there is anyone who would be disappointed with the feature set this product offers.

I'm very happy with this thermostat. It was *fairly* easy to install and set up. I recommend setting aside a couple of hours for the install. It most likely won't take that long to install start to finish, but I would allow extra time in case you run into any issues, or if you are not familiar with installing a thermostat. Honeywell's instructions are great and easy to follow. I also went to their YouTube channel and reviewed their video on how to install. They are very well done and easy to follow. The one thing you want to make sure you have is a C (common) wire. This powers the unit. Our home was built in 2016 so I thought for sure we'd have one. When I first removed our existing programmable thermostat, however, I only found 4 wires and not the 5 recommended. There was a way to use the G (ground) wire for the power both in the instructions and on their channel, but it our case it would not have been easy to do. Fortunately, I did find a C wire back in the wall and was able to install with no further issues. Setting up the unit once installed was a snap. It was just following the questions on screen. It was simple to register the unit with Honeywell as well (this is required for remote access to the unit). You are able to set up multiple people to use the thermostat remotely or you can limit it to just one account. You can also download their app and control it via your phone/tablet. You can lock the programming with a PIN if needed (though you don't get to choose the PIN). You can set up temporary holds as well as permanent holds for controlling the temp, or you can program multiple times and temps so that everything is automated. It is also an Alexa skill. I have set that up to use with my Alexa, but I've not tried it yet. I would highly recommend this unit.

We have been using an older model of Honeywell programmable thermostat for a few years and really liked it. This new thermostat is a huge upgrade that has color touch display, wifi and can be controlled using voice with an app. Setup - Setup was easy with all the included instructions. “C” wire accessory is included if you have an older system and does not have the wire to power on the thermostat. The backplate was easy to mount with clear markings of which wire goes where and took me less than 20 mins to replace the old with the new. Once the thermostat is mounted and powered on the on screen step by step setup was easy to follow to configure. Display - The display has a very nice touchscreen and the color can be adjusted based on your wall or home decor. You can easily select C or F display. Features - The advanced fan operation feature helps keep the temperature even across multiple rooms throughout the home and it automatically switches from heat to cool based on the temperature settings. It also provides local weather and temperature and manages the home with respect to outside weather. Intelligent Alerts & Voice Control- You can customize the thermostat to alert you when there is a drop on increase in temperature or humidity and it works as expected. With the app for IOS or Android you can see the temperature on your phone and even control it using voice commands. This is an excellent product from Honeywell and delivers as expected.

The Honeywell Wi-Fi Smart thermostat has changed the way we cool/heat our home. It is very easy to use and program. It was easy to connect to the Wi-Fi, download the app and be able to control the home thermostat from my cell phone while on the go. It has a program that walks you through your schedule of people leaving and coming home as well as sleep patterns so you can program your temperatures automatically. I live in Orlando where we use the air conditioning most months out of the year. I have loved being able to adjust the AC so it will be cool when I arrive home (If I am coming home earlier than my set schedule). The thermostat also has a feature that will circulate the air in the home by using the fan. This is a nice feature to help keep the temperature down in our case. Since it is connected to the wi-fi it also displays the outside temperature as well. Very sleek design and easy to use.

Installing the Honeywell Wi-Fi Color Thermostat was very easy, made even easier by the fact that I was replacing an existing Honeywell thermostat. The wires on the old thermostat were already labeled in a way that made the transition very easy. After spending 20 minutes installing the new thermostat (following the instructions in the box) I went through the prompts on the screen allowing me to connect to Wi-Fi and register the unit with the Honeywell’s cloud service. The process took another 10-15 minutes during which I also created an account for the online service. After that, I installed the app, entered the online account information and was able to connect to my thermostat, modify temperature settings, change the schedule, etc. The instructions were detailed and precise and the installation took less time than I thought. I highly recommend this product.

Was really excited to bring this home. I live in an older condo unit and dont really have a lot of electrical experience; however the user guide was simple to use. I do want to stress the importance of taking pictures of the wiring prior to removing your old unit (make sure to turn off the power too...). My unit did not have a C wire, so I wound up using the adapter that came with and followed the C Adapter instructions to rewire the furnace - worked like a charm! The unit looks great, responds to Alexa immediately, and runs perfect with the heating/ac unit. Couldnt be happier!!

This thermostat is very easy to use and matches any decor with its color theme options. It automatically switches from cool to heat which is great during the shoulder months where you have a 75 degree day and then a 45 degree night - no more manually switching from "Cool" to "Heat". Just set the ideal temp and it takes care of the rest. The phone app is super easy to use and lets you control it when away from home, but I really dig the Google Home integration. Now I can just say "Hey Google - set Living Room to 73 degrees" and it does it automatically! Had a question during installation, but called their 800# and their support was great, helped me through my question in a few minutes and everything up and running. Very pleased with this modern thermostat!
