Was really excited to bring this home. I live in an older condo unit and dont really have a lot of electrical experience; however the user guide was simple to use. I do want to stress the importance of taking pictures of the wiring prior to removing your old unit (make sure to turn off the power too...). My unit did not have a C wire, so I wound up using the adapter that came with and followed the C Adapter instructions to rewire the furnace - worked like a charm! The unit looks great, responds to Alexa immediately, and runs perfect with the heating/ac unit. Couldnt be happier!!

This thermostat is very easy to use and matches any decor with its color theme options. It automatically switches from cool to heat which is great during the shoulder months where you have a 75 degree day and then a 45 degree night - no more manually switching from "Cool" to "Heat". Just set the ideal temp and it takes care of the rest. The phone app is super easy to use and lets you control it when away from home, but I really dig the Google Home integration. Now I can just say "Hey Google - set Living Room to 73 degrees" and it does it automatically! Had a question during installation, but called their 800# and their support was great, helped me through my question in a few minutes and everything up and running. Very pleased with this modern thermostat!

Several years ago, I lived in a one bedroom apartment. While there wasn’t a lot of square footage, there was more than one room to heat/cool and sometimes my bills would be astronomical. I ended up eventually getting a programmable thermostat that would start and stop according to my present schedule. This really helped my utility bills because I wasn’t heating/cooling the apartment when no one was there. Now that I have an entire house, I want something that is a little more substantial as far as thermostats go. I still want something that can be programmed, but I want it to work with my home automation, too. I’ve tried a few that are on the market (ecobee, nest) but for quite some time, I’ve wanted to see what Honeywell’s WiFi Thermostat could do for me. Honeywell’s WiFi Smart Color Thermostat features voice control through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It will work with Smart Things and IFTTT. It is not compatible with Apple HomeKit but can be controlled through the Honeywell app, which is compatible with iOS. Honeywell brags that this unit has a ‘simple set-up’. While this is true if you have a newer thermostat, some people with older units may have issues. This device requires a ‘C’ wire as its power source. It does come with the ‘C’ wire accessory, but if you don’t already have it, this could provide some hassle. Installing the thermostat is fairly simple. You remove the old thermostat and label the wires. Once they are labeled you mount the wall plate for the Honeywell unit. Hardware is provided for drywall and plaster walls. When the wall plate is secured, you then connect the wires. The terminal releases are a little tough to press, but they make connecting the wires so much easier than wrapping them around screws. Once the wires are secured and connected, you will then snap the thermostat into the wall plate. The thermostat will go through a set-up process and once it asks you to join a WiFi network, you enter your network name and password. At this point, you will need to register the thermostat in order to get remote access. After all of these initial steps are completed, you can then finish the set-up on the mobile app. I really like how simple the set-up process was. I had a smooth installation and I really enjoy using the Honeywell thermostat. It’s been pretty responsive and even though there is a slight delay between when I enter a command on the app and when the unit acts, it’s not enough to really bother me. I really like how readable the screen is especially compared to some other digital thermostats. The Honeywell seems to do a decent job of learning my routine and I’ve not had any major issues with it. I do wish it was HomeKit compatible but will settle for it working with Alexa.

This Thermostat with WiFi connectivity, was pretty simple to install. I lost control of my fan independently but I will install an additional wire to gain what I lost. This unit is so simple to schedule, you can use the app that is downloadable, or even log into a website to program your schedule. It's user interface, with it's touch controls are very easy to use and navigate. Where this unit shines is it's ability to be controlled via my Google Home. I can adjust the temp or mode on the fly with my voice. The app gives you ultimate control as well, like having the thermostat in your pocket. I love that it has built in alerts at high and low limits. Keeping you informed of a possible malfunction of your furnace or central air.

I really do like this thermostat a lot. That being said, this is of course the first Wi-Fi thermostat that I have owned. It works great with Google Home, and adjustments to the temperature are immediate. The interface is simple to use, and the setup itself was fairly easy. I would caution though, if you do not have a C-Wire, known as Common, you will need to either use the included cable and go about using the G-Wire for the substitution. In my case we had to go with this method. Another option is if you're able, you can certainly run another wire. There are also methods out there where folks have used Adapters to supply the needed power to the thermostat. The caveat to going the G-Wire route is you will lose manual Fan control, so it will only run with the system. I do suppose this would be plus for energy efficiency. It's certainly fast to respond to bringing the temperature back to requested levels. I do also like that it will show you the outdoor temperature, which I believe it actually pulls from either Accuweather or Weather.com. The web interface is nice and it was a breeze to register and activate the thermostat to work over the Wi-Fi Network. The app is also very nice to use and is very well streamlined. There's no bloat or anything to the app. If I was looking for another Thermostat or to add an additional one to the home I would certainly consider the Honeywell. It's also very bright. The photo I did take here was with my hallway pitch black with little ambient light from a nearby TV was at half brightness, or maybe less. You can control that as well as the colors. You can make it black and white, white and black, and several other colors. You cannot change the actual font color though. It would be nice to have it black with a bright green font much like an old Apple II E.

As a caveat, is a little early for me to be reviewing this product since I've only had it installed for about a week. But, I like it so much I thought I would go ahead and write a review. My old honeywell thermostat was also programable but only from the unit. It was so hard to set the schedule that I would never alter it. This unit makes it so easy that I have been able to experiment with the temperatures to get the best balance of comfort and energy efficiency (I think). The other benefit was that since my old thermostat was also a honeywell, the new mounting plate fit exactly to the old one so no new holes were necessary. If I had one complaint, it would be nice if the screen were a little larger but all in all I really like it.

I’m an architect and a longtime advocate of sustainable design. HVAC is usually the biggest expense on our electrical bill, so I appreciate efforts to improve efficiency. Most people don’t understand how to use a conventional (analog) thermostat - they usually crank the temperature down, then turn it off when it gets comfortable (or they forget and leave it on and leave their home, wastefully cooling or heating the space). The tech companies who innovated Smart thermostats have done a nice job. One mimics the old round thermostat and the other went all-new. The problem for some people is one is too basic and hides its truly valuable features, while the other is just too abstract. Honeywell’s solution splits the difference. It goes with the familiar rectangular shape, easily covering the probably discolored wall when you remove your old t-stat. It uses familiar, but more intuitive controls and clearly shows the existing and desired temperature, as well as the outside temp and interior humidity. Mom and dad, or grandma and grandpa will be comfortable. Set it and forget it! If you’re feeling more ambitious, dig into the truly Smart features. You can set it to maintain humidity levels, run on a schedule, and there’s a vacation setting. Fun things include the ability to change screen colors to match your decor, and the cool smartphone app the monitor and control settings while in your home or away. I use that feature on one installed at my father’s home in Florida. I can receive alerts when the temp gets too high and either adjust for him or call and see if he’s ok with the conditions. Super cool and gives piece of mind. And yes, you can use it with Alexa, natch.

These thermostats have turned out to work quite well. I can't say that was the case early on. They are easy to install if you have a newer home with a C-wire already available. The issue was trying to get it to accept commands from the Amazon Echo. It took 2 or 3 tries early on to get it to stick, and the unit would disconnect from the router often. I don't know what updated - the unit, the router, or the Echo, but it was magically fixed one day and has been rock solid since. Doesn't lose it's connection anymore and always accepts commands from the Echo the first time. These aren't as cool looking or sleek as some of the newer model's out there, but I like having the standard info I see on my other Honeywell units, and controlling the temps myself, rather than the machine learning. To each their own, of course, but for me these fit the bill.

Cannot hit the target. Looks nice, works poor

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First, to get this out of the way, the WIFI app for this device is as thin as possible. It give no status info, no serial, no mac address, does not tell the fan status, nothing. All it does is reflect, sometimes wrongly, the current settings that you established. You can change the temp and that's about it - maybe. sometimes there is a big lag. But that is not the biggest problem. This Thermostat cannot establish the ambient temperature apparently, or cannot hit the target that the owner sets, or both. It reads ambient temperature erratically, within a range of about 4 degrees hgh [I have not used cooling yet, only heat, and the outside temps have been cool, below the 70'ish targets I set]. I have seen it suddently change, for instance, from an ambient of 71 to 69 in a wink. At night, it is prone to overshoot the target after a long delay. That is, the target being 69 degrees, the house will get very chilly before it finally comes on, then it will run the heat for about 20 minutes or more before finally stopping. I get up and go check the readings and the ambient will be 71 or 72, not 69. This missing of mark has repeated many times but not all times. It is erratic. Also, changing the "Hold" target temperature sometimes immediately triggers an adjustment of the ambient current temperature. within 30 seconds or so of adjusting the target, the ambient may move down 2 degrees or so. The display does put out heat, so I turned the brightness of the background [you cannot adjust the foreground number displays] to zero, blacked out, to remove that source of heat, but the software/firmware may have that hit "baked in" regardless of reality. Tech Support is non-existent. The phone queue is eternal, chat never opens a chat window that is live, and who knows about email. Save your money and just buy a real thermostat for 80 bucks or so and enjoy.

A NICE UPGRADE TO THE PREVIOUS MODEL

I had the previous model of this Honeywell Thermostat, a green background with black text. This new model is a nice upgrade to that unit and I'll explain why in a moment. Please know that the upgrade path from that model to this model took only minutes, because the wiring issues were worked out last time and the labels/and inputs are the same, just in different spots. The screw holes are even in the same spot so re-mounting the new one in the old spot was super easy. As for what is nice on this upgrade, the silver looking bezel, color screen, humidity level inside, the temp and humidity outside, and the much easier sized touch screen area to work with. It is overall smaller, but the areas to touch are so much easier to select. Programming is such a nice improvement - programming is so easy on this new model. If you review the pictures, you'll see how much nicer the new unit looks, but also how it is easier to read. The older unit was nice, but the little print was hard to read. With these units, the online access is amazing, allowing you to change the temperature through the app or the web. You can also change the system from heat to cool, or from cool to heat, etc. The system can notify you if the temperature rises above or below certain thresholds, if humidity is too high or too low, or if the system loses contact with the monitoring center online. After years of already having a Honeywell smart thermostat, I found my heating/cooling bills were a less as I used scheduling to turn the heating/cooling up and down vs. doing it manually all the time. You can count on saving money, because you get used to a certain set of temperatures vs. when you set it manually, it is easy to turn it up alot or down alot as sort of an impulse change vs. a schedule. Reliability of this has been amazing, and the value is paid back in convience, if not in utility bills. A quick story comes to mind over this summer when the temperature in our house went to the point where I have a notification set for, and because of this timely alert, I was able to get my A/C service company out - it was a Friday at 3pm and they happened to have someone in the neighborhood - this timely alert saved me from sweating all weekend until service came out on Monday. If I had a wish list, it would be that the outside weather forecast, which can be viewed through preferences, would show on the screen as maybe an alternating screen to the current temperature settings. I would also make the backplate just a bit bigger, like the older model, to make it a tad easier to wire. However, the wires are much easier to install, because of the press in wire sockets vs. needing a screwdriver. You can also remove the wires by pressing in on them with a ballpoint pen tip....very nice touch. In settings, you can also provide an offset, if you find you are used to a slightly different temperature or humidity level, so the system can adjust using this offset, and display the temperature as you are used to it. I found the temperature and humidity seems to match the multiple temp and humidity sensors I have scattered around my house. Buy with confidence, this is well worth the money, and I remember from my last one I put in, their tech support was superb when trying to work out my specific wiring concerns (heat pump with emergency heat). I didn't need tech support this time, it was an easy upgrade path.

I recently received the Honeywell Smart Color Thermostat. I'm replacing my existing Nest thermostat (3rd generation) so I'll give a comparison between the two in this review. Design: Both the Honeywell and Nest thermostats are nice looking units with a nice finish to them. The Honeywell unit has the ability to change the screen color while the Nest thermostat does not have that ability. The boxier look of the Honeywell device is not as pleasing to me as the circular design of the Nest thermostat. Installation: The biggest thing to keep in mind with the Honeywell thermostat is that you need a "C" wire for the system to work. I don't believe the Nest requires a "C" wire but I could be wrong. It can cost upwards of a few hundred dollars to add additional wiring to your system. Overall the installation is pretty straight forward. I would make sure you label the wires before removing them from your old thermostat for reinstallation. App: The Honeywell app works very well and has some nice features. I personally did not like the "learning" feature of the Nest app. I like the ability to set my own schedule and not have the thermostat automatically come up with its own schedule. The Honeywell application does give you a quick-set recommendation which makes setting a schedule super-fast. Overall, I love the simplicity of the Honeywell touchscreen and the fact that you can see all of the important information directly on the home screen (i.e. the weather, humidity, the date, and time). Also I like the touchscreen tabs at the top of the screen to navigate to settings and schedules.

I set up this unit by replacing another brand new thermostat in a new construction home build. At first I was a little hesitant, but after reading the super easy to understand directions I had a new sense of confidence. The instructions layout several "what to do if" scenarios while installing. It addresses how to approach installing by replacing a new thermostat, to what to do if there is no "C" wire to utilize. All in all installation was a breeze. After installing the unit i immediately notices how intuitive the set up was. The only real knowledge i needed to know was, my wifi password, and some specifics about me furnace. A few other features i really enjoy about this unit is the App that works as a companion and control center for the interface. I can set threshholds at a distance. Very easy to use. Outside of the amazing functionality one little thing i found neat was the color control. I can set the backlight on the unti to be one of, maybe 20 different colors. It really makes my hall way pop! Highly recommended due to ease of setup, functionality and color control!

I have 2 of these Honeywell thermostats installed in my house and they work great. I had dual thermostats previously and installing these was very simple and easy, as long as you have an C-Wire in your existing thermostat wiring. Connecting them to my WiFi was simple and the initial setup at the Honeywell web site was also very simple. It works very well with Amazon Alexa giving you voice control over you house temperature once you have the Honeywell Skill installed. I do wish there were more voice commands available like turning on/off Cooling or Heating. The iPhone app was simple to install and use from anywhere.

I love that this stays on all the time if you want it to. You can set it to go black to if you want to. I like the different colors you can set it to as well. We have an orange wall, and it blends in perfectly with it set to orange as the background color. It was super easy to install. I just took my old thermostat off, and I took a picture of the existing wiring, and then put the new thermostat on and hooked it up exactly like the old one. One little note though. If you have an older system that does not have a c wire then you will have a more complicated install as you need a c wire for this piece. My wall had 6 wires coming out of it so I had no problem. I think people with less than 4 wires will have an issue. I have had it a week now with now problems whatsoever. I have it attached to my google home so I can control it with my voice. You have to download the mytotalconnectcomfort app first though. I can control it through my phone with the honeywell native app, or through google home. The honeywell site did go down one time during the last week for a little bit, but other than that the thermostat, and wifi control has been rock solid.

If you don't see your particular wiring diagram, or, have any questions call the Customer Support phone numbers furnished for the various scenarios in the guide. They are very responsive and quick. I have a water-wrapped heat pump (not a common unit) and could not find an appropriate wiring diagram for me to use in the guide for my installation. Wow! * Security Option of Using Password Protection for Your Scheduled Settings. * Compressor Protection – Built-In 'Time-Delay' Before Compressor Restart. * Auto Changeover Feature – Allows the T-Stat to Select Either Heating or Cooling Based on the Indoor Temperature. I live in North Florida where it gets cool at night, and, hot in the daytime – great feature. YooHoo! * Advanced Settings. You can Indicate Your Preferences for Fahrenheit or Celsius, Number of Schedule Periods, Manual or Auto Heating and Cooling System Changeover, Daylight Savings Time, Clock Format, Temperature Limits, Indoor Display, etc. * On-Screen 'HELP'. When a Setting or System Problem Occurs and Orange 'Alert' Button will Display. Touching the Button will Display Instructions to Resolve the 'Alert', Accordingly. * Clean Screen Option Under Settings – Your Touch Screen Will Eventually Need Cleaning, but You Don't Want to Change Any of Your Scheduled Settings – This Will Do That. In my humble opinion I think that the most important settings are the Programmable Daily Wake, Away, Arrive, and Sleep Settings. They allow you to set your T-Stat temperatures back to lower, 'Unoccupied', and, or higher, 'Occupied' temperatures for comfort and $$ Energy-Savings. For example, if you and your wife are away for approximately 10 to12 hours a day from home – you can set the temperature back to around 5 degrees under your 'comfort' level for both heating and cooling. Great product. Easy to install and setup, works perfectly (so far). The wifi connection is great in the house and far from home so you can adjust your thermostat easily.

The color display on the Honeywell Thermostat adds fair to a normally bland device. I have wired may Honeywell stats in my day. This install was a tad tougher due to the requirement of the "C" or common power wire. Th original stat from was a simple 'dumb' mercury spring switch. That only needed four (4) wires and not power to make the stat itself work. When the thermostat was replaced a few years back, the new thermostat had batteries which made the "C" wire unnecessary. Unfortunately this is why I give the 4-stars, you need to either add a new wire to the bundle if your existing unit only has four-wires, use the green wire in place of the "C" and jumper inside the furnace or add an additional 24-VAC transformer for thermostat power. This might be intimidating for most DIYers. Otherwise the unit has a great APP in the app store.
