I do use tap water and have no issue with the white dust some may experience.

A humidifier is a great item for the winter season. Honeywell humidifier is well built and generates vapors at 2 speeds. There is an oil holder for using it with aromatic oils. I have not yet tried cleaning it and will add the cleaning details after few months of usage. Overall a good buy.
